      Thanks Scott ! I thought about Smell-O-Vision, but it's best to get off the couch and go smell the roses. :)

    Ill never do the race, but the route gives some great ideas for shorter trips 😊 Looking forward to seeing footage of the racers doing it maybe? That way we can ride vicariously through them 😂

      This is also the reason why I created the route as I did. Allowing those who didn't wish to race it, to create their own route. Join my Ride With GPS group for this and many more routes on the island. -- Happy cycling !

    In 2020, a friend and I rode up from Nanaimo to Cape Scott. It is an awesome route and really pretty. Love to see this event taking place!

      Thanks 😊 there are so many cool places to see. Unfortunately 1/2 the Island is private timberland, which really limits legal access for bikepacking the backcountry. Hence why most of this route is north of Campbell River.

      @jalenoutside Рік тому +1

      @@SaltyBeard_Adventures Ah I see. Yes, my friend and I rode all the way to Port Hardy on the highway. Then too the FSR across to Cape Scott. I would not recommend the highway in the northern sections and I would not ride that again. However, I do know the FSR's that cut across are really nice!
      Again, love the channel!

      @@jalenoutside / and that’s a busy FSR - there are some pretty neat ways to get there from Campbell River. Have fun !!

      After gutting my massive (high-maintenance) website I’m expanding some sections and a gear list is one. I will be also have an affiliate page, while no cost to consumers, it will be the best way to support my channel, without seeing money given to various 3rd parties.

    That's interesting. Rather than the full Tree to Sea, I was thinking of linking the Port Alice loop (BC Road trips vol #5); and the North Island (San Josef) out and back (BC Road Trips #3). I will skip Tahsis and Zeballos until they finish the trail between them!. Leaving sometime after Labour Day.

    • @SaltyBeard_Adventures
      @SaltyBeard_Adventures  Рік тому

      There are a number of interesting ways to loops all the roads together. But yes, until the Community Trail is build (which is currently on hold) Tahsis & Zabellos is either out & back trips or an expensive boar ride

      @@SaltyBeard_Adventures I'd rather ride a boar than pay $450!!!!! I wonder what it would be like via packraft.

    Well now.... this is very interesting.
    Please tell me this will be an annual event? If so, I am in for 2024!
    I've sea kayaked around Vancouver Island twice in the past, both times resulting in speed records for the fastest circumnavigation of the island. This bikepacking route would be amazing to do!
    If this event is on for next year, then yeah, I am in!

    • @SaltyBeard_Adventures
      @SaltyBeard_Adventures  Рік тому +1

      Yes every year. I made it an open format with no grand depart for a few reasons
      - I can manage it all from a distance.

      @JoeOsChannel Рік тому +1

      @@SaltyBeard_Adventures I am in. I may even be able to get out there late this summer to do it this year.
      I'm watching your series on Bikepacking north Van. Island right now.
      And I think my ride this afternoon, it is going to be a bit longer than I'd planned. Time to up the mileage a bit and start getting ready. This is awesome, I'm stoked!

    • @SaltyBeard_Adventures
      @SaltyBeard_Adventures  Рік тому +1

      @@JoeOsChannel / Sounds like a plan!! The north island series doesn’t cover “all” the areas covered in race but “most” - I’m planning on putting out a few more episodes in that series. As you can imagine, so many things on the editing desk along with my full time job, family and trying to find time to ride…

      Cycling/kayaking.... I have a folding bike, kayak and trailer. The bike and trailer fit in the (tandem) boat, and the bike pulls the (folded) boat in the trailer. I am definitely tempted to go this way in the North Island, although all three parts are compromises. Bike and boat each weigh 25lbs, trailer 12 lbs.
      Dahon Mariner bike, Innova Swing 2 kayak, Burley Travoy trailer. I'd like your opinion!

    Ok next time I'm on the West Coast I'm so frickin in. It might be a few years, and it makes me so homesick to be on the East Coast watching this, but I'm definitely doing this as soon as I get the chance! I'm training a husky as the ultimate endurance athlete right now, well actually right now she's just a puppy learning how to walk in a straight line, but she should be capable of sustained 70 km days when she's 3 years old. We might not be the fastest but we'll be have the most fun!

    • @SaltyBeard_Adventures
      @SaltyBeard_Adventures  Рік тому

      That’s pretty awesome! We had two huskies and used a “pawtrekker” bike to keep them trained and active. One of out dogs is now a poster-child for a dog-sledding team in Canmore/Banff.
