That Behringer better sound good because is the only one I can afford
Hahah, yeahhh
😂😂😂😂
It really is good
I believe those have been discontinued and people are jacking up the prices.
:) 😂
Im a piano jazz student and I have no ideia how I ended up here but I cant stop watching your vídeos man.
The metal chose you.
@@reinhardtpienaar1316 A new metal head has been chosen
Same I used to be a pianist but now I play metal in the guitar I recently bought the boss metal core ml2 to get that heavy sound.
Great music is great music...Miles Davis in the 70s made some of the darkest, abrasive music ever. Just look at Rated X.
Ola, I've been playing guitar for 57 years, 35 years professionally. I've run into every kind of psycho goof-ball picker there is. I always enjoy your your videos. Your a real person who loves the guitar. What more needs to be said. Thank you for reviewing these pedals and brightening my day.
How old are you?
Probably in his 60s or 70s.
57 y o
oh kay boo mer
Agreed
Metal Core was my favorite sound. Overall, the entire review for all the pedals was very well done. Thank you!
the problem with the metalcore its that the sounds its good playing alone, but with a band mix sounds really bad, have a lot of low and high frecuencies that doesnt belong to the guitar
*finds this channel
*buys guitar
*joy ensues
Thank you, Ola. I'm playing again because of you. :)
Me to man, I just picked it back up and am on my last mode. Thanks ola, I'll be ordering one of your solar's very soon
Booo never stop playing man
@@juliansuarez3849 happens man. I wont let it again though!
Same. Ola got me playing again a little over a year ago.
me too!! just gotta pick a pedal////still stuck in the 80s death metal soun with the Boss Metal Zone LOL
"When the tone is this good the price don't matter as much anymore" I love this guy! I'm digging the natural look Ola, that guitar is a beauty.
HELLSEEKER so what’s the best pedal if our playing is not so good? 😂
@@yuletide I don't get your intention. He hasn't talked about playing at all, it was solely about the gear.
And btw., if it's about pedals itself, you can easily build them yourself. A 200 dollars pedal for 20 bucks? No problem. Most of the times, the housing is the most expensive part, which is quite funny to me.
The learning curve isn't that hard. But you need the tools for it too of course..
Kalte Nilsen whoops meant to comment on the thread above saying “when your playing is this good they all sound great”
Yeah, I agree on the Natural look. The lipstick and mascara era were not Ola's best days ...
what?
@@Deathrape2001 Try putting a rockmaster preamp on a pedalboard. If you're getting into "the used market of things no longer made" there's also a lot of other options (that wasn't the point of the video, he's showing current pedals you can buy new at various price points). Also, pedals are just fun to play with, which is one of the main points of this video. There's lots of people making a good living playing guitar who get their distortion from a pedal. Also the rockmaster pre needs a good eq pedal put on it to sound really good. I used to have one years ago (I don't do rack gear anymore, that's a whole other can of worms to open up and bulky to boot).

@@omaryhvh7658 same for me.
You beautiful man thank you.
$25 for that Behringer?! That thing actually sounded pretty great.
I have 6 Behringer pedals I bought for $110 on ebay. I honestly couldn't be happier. They're 80% less the cost for only like 5% less performance and quality.
It's basically a boss with shitty enclosure. 100% worth it to my eyes.
The circuit is a close copy of the Boss Mega-distortion...
I have the Behringer TM300 tube amp modeler. while it can't replace other pedals or plugins, it sounds GREAT for the price
Guarantee sales went up after this
Great to be included with such killer pedals Ola! Cheers 🤘🤘🤘
You put one hell of a pedal. Imo, your pedal is by far the best one here. Organic, dynamic, built in gate, all the essentials, best chug and def had the best tone. Searching for one on the internet as we speak!! Killer pedal 🤘great job!
I think your sounds the best among these.
My favourite sound: Boss Metalcore.
I agree. Great price and sounded miles better than the eyemaster.
Agreed. Been using it for quite a while.
agree
I should get that
Cause the one I have is a green boss chorus and it sucks
@@waterproof4403 uhhhh
That Eyemaster is so unique. I wonder how it would sound dialled back and stacked with something else.
Exactly my thoughts. Id love to try it with any of them, it might sound interesting with the Metal Core actually. who knows. its a good idea though
I generally run a KMH Logan into it to use as a pre-amp and treat the Eyemaster as a distortion circuit, sounds very unique if you dial it in right! It has the savagery of the HM-2 sound with more chord and chug definition, very enjoyable :). And of course I can just press a few buttons and go back to my old trusty chainsaw sound again B)
I have the Friedman and I love it to death. Of course it sounds fantastic, but also having two quick-switch channels is the real selling point for me. I need to go from loud to quiet pretty quickly some times and that thing straight up gets the job done.
The Metalcore sounded the best to me. Second best the Revv
As an Old School Death Metal fan: EYEMASTER.
Eyemaster for the win! Seriously, it's really a one trick pony, but damn, that's a great trick!
Kickass song from an kickass album!
This is a "clone" of the old Boss HM-2, right?
@@davelanciani-dimaensionx yes it is. By the way, it sounds much better in front of an already distorted amp in my opinion
Yeah I like that sound too. i bet it would sound killer on bass. Im gonna try it.
The Abasi Pathos is great sounding! Definitely one I’ll need to check out.
🤘🏼
Could you find any??? All are sold out, I want one.
@@alxdrksoul bro is that true that pathos is based on wampler dracarys??
@@wisnumurti8178 yes
You'll love it dude. My cousin plays a ton of metal he's been doing it for years and that's the pedal he uses and it sounds absolutely awesome. It doesn't have a built-in noise gate so he would probably suggest buying a noise gate with it, but either way it still sounds amazing.
Can we just appreciate that riff during the Behringer heavy distortion
The Revv G3 was second to none in tone and definitely the best value for money!
A note about the Eyemaster: it HAS to be run into a secondary distortion/overdrive in order to get the intended sound. It has an extreme post-distortion EQ that is meant to boost the hell out of the next overdrive stage, causing the "tearing/ripping" swedish deqth metal sound.
The point wasn't to test the pedal in front of an amp though, it was how they sound on their own.
ive found that it sounds best going into a crunch channel.
So you mean to put in behind an OD pedal like the Boss SD-1?
@@lichkrieg4898 I know, but that pedal is unique in that it is NOT meant to be used by itself, or into a clean channel. It really should be made with a secondary drive stage after the EQ stage, but they are intended to be used into an already overdriven amp specifically.
@@binhck it's best used into a full "amp style" distortion, or an actual amp.
The eyemaster sounds like when I plugged my guitar into my dad's old stereo
the pedals itself not sure wheter to sound black or death
😂
@@zipppircik it’s based off of the Boss HM2 pedal with all the knobs on max, which was used for both Swedish death metal and black metal, so it’s not really either / or
Sounds like an amplified dog fart (and not in a good way)! Sorry My Swedish brothers, find another tone, because if that is representative (and I like a lot of Swedish metal) Yikes.
"Amplifiers are kinda disappearing more and more". Dist pedals have come a long way. Its a trip for me to witness the trajectory of both the music industry and specifically gear, from when I started to the present time. This video makes me feel nostalgic enough to get one and go back to the old days before vsts and modelers. Thats going full circle from my early days with a little practice amp.
I really love Friedman - it has that Marshally thing with the distorted high frequencies that fits in a mix of band
That Pathos pedal sounded amazing to my ears. The Friedman was my 2nd favorite.
Yeah I get to hear the Pathos in person. My cousin plays a lot of metal and he uses that amplifier and it sounds awesome. He does run a noise gate with it though so it's actually even cleaner the distortion is absolutely insane.
PATHOS: i like hearing all the notes in a chord even under heavy distortion
I was looking for this comment. The weird clarity even under heavy distortion was breathtaking.
Ksr ceres is what you need! Unmatched clarity by any other pedal, and their amps are at higher level as well!
So, listen to dead memories by slipknot you will like that
Good point.
I think his pickups are a huge contributor to it as well.
best genre reviews period. years later and still has worth.
thanks mate!
"When tone is this good price doesn't really matter" xD I knew that pink thing was gonna be your pick. It sounds so much better than all of them. Great video!!! 😊

Thanks a ton man
very helpful
Thank you
Great demos! Really diggin’ the Boss Metal Core and the Behringer Heavy Distortion! They do indeed chug! Just ordered the Behringer and will definitely be obtaining the Metal Core eventually. Thank you for doing this pedal shootout! Quite helpful.
It's great having videos like this while stores are closed. Thankfully ordering online, we get much more options.
I never noticed the beautiful embossing on that cabinet.
I've never noticed it either. Good catch and thanks for pointing it out!
I totally preordered the 7 string version of this cause you know, needed another. I was sold.
Get the Behringer Heavy Distortion, the TC Eyemaster and the BOSS one and you're set. Who needs a 300$+ pedal for distortion?
Yeah you can buy a whole great sounding digital effects processor for the price
Odell Mateo dude give me that moooney ha
Who doesn't? But if you can't do it with a Boss pedal, you can't do it. Ask Snowy White!
The Ksr rocked as did the Friedman and Revv. Great demo!
I’ve just pre-ordered the 7 string version of this guitar it’s bloody gorgeous!! 🤘🏻
ML-2 for me heard it live too, sweetest distortion pedal i've ever heard so far
I just recieved the Apex as a gift from my son, who is a shredder, and just love it. PERFECT addition to my pedalboard. Sounds awesome in front end of my 2 Marshall heads.
Keep up the good work Ola...
I had a metal core pedal years ago and regret selling it as it definitely captured the hardcore sound I wanted. But watching this the definition between strings on the abasi and revv are super impressive and it's obvious they have higher end components.
The Behringer sounds like an Orange Dark Terror with the gain maxed.
@alan wake Absolutely not! 🤘
Rocktron Metal Planet was a great pedal, but it's no longer manufactured. It had controls like Boss Metal Zone, but the sound was more amp-like and sounded good even through solid state amp. Other good pedal was Marshall Jackhammer. I liked Rocktron more though.
@@mattx5499 there's a guy from Ireland here on UA-cam who shows how to upgrade components on the circuit board of the Metal Zone pedal. It makes it sound better than any of these
@@bobowrathsovine. What guy? I'd love to check that out.
Cs guitars
I have the smaller Friedman pedal, I hook it into a power amp or impulse loader with an mxr eq for mids only And it’s amazing. an honorable mention as well is the the mxr 5150 evh od, which has a really nice noise gate, as well as the isp theta which has a built in decimator noise gate.....great video, funny that the behringer sounds better than the t c.....i have so many distortion and preamp pedals and love them all....great video
A tubescreamer into a Marshall JCM 800 will always be the ultimate metal sound in my opinion
Not for the modern metal sound
André Cunha yes you do. However, you do could use a gate to achieve that
Or my fryette DI valvulator I to my mesa. ;)
2 stacked Metal zones with all the knobs at 5 o clock into a 35w crate practice amp
@@andrelfcunhaii I'd put a compressor sustainer in front of the tube screamer and split the cabinets for big stereo sound
THE CERES ! I really like how it sounded in this video, very chunky but without losing clarity and brightness!
The new Solar finish is beautiful...keep doing what you do, Ola!
Cheers from Canada
[Ola testing pedals] Me: "Yeah, but does it Chainsaw?"
I mean, he lives on a farm now right? Maybe we can get ola testing farm shit and a sthil as the first item.
Ola, tasting pedals.. ola testing shit
ua-cam.com/video/vHusOdVOkh4/v-deo.html
did someone say chainsaw?
69 likes, sorry i cant ruin that
Listening to the chug tests back-to-back, I think the metal core is the definite winner here
I love the fact that you emphasize that it's your video and your opinion, which is what I want.
Cheers
Ceres by far. It has so many different sounds in it too. The BE is also awesome The Horizon pedal was cool, but very dry and tight, which only works for certain things. The Revv definitely needs more top end.
The Friedman for sure, so harmonically smooth and lush! Great for the price.
Very good! Awesome pedals! Well done, Ola!! ...in particular the end with the "chug" demonstrations.
Each video I watch makes my respect for Boss grow more and more
among all that awesome pedals, metalzone and ds-1 is still in our hearts
Seems like Pathos is the best one and everything else is missing something, rolled off too much or too many bees. Really surprised how much the Revv became something I don’t want now. All personal taste and budgets may vary. Solid state power amp testing was a great idea.
Personally I`ve been choosing between Pathos and Revv.. they both sounded great but I ended up with Revv simply because it sounded killer immidiately I turned it on and the feeling was really like real tube amp.. Pathos sounded to me more chemically and I didn`t have that feel when I played it.. I had to twist the knobs much more to get the tone I really liked.. how I said with Revv it was love for the first sight.. but they both sound great
@@tomykryl62 I have the Revv g3 and l love it
The g4 isnt as good or versatile imo
I agree. Most of them sound really boxy.
yah just listening I forget about the no tubes aspect of the post.
I preferred the Pathos too.
Informative & to-the-point. Great review video, as always. The Berhiger is pretty good, considering the price, though a bit noisy. I like the built-in, noise gate on the Horizon, but it seems a little pricey when considering the control features of the others. Great tone, though. The T.C. Electronics seems to have a bit of a signal-to-noise issue. The KSR, having 3 channel options, would make a killer pre-amp. Totally agree with the Metal Core being a step-up from the Metal Zone, but the lack of mid control is indeed, disappointing. The Revv & Friedman are both solid choices. All great choices, but the Abasi Pathos would be my, personal, top pick. Love the definition & thickness. A very rare combination, indeed. Probably gonna buy one this year. Thanx, again, Mr. Englund. You, indeed, Rock as hard as they come.
Man! Great video. Perfect layout and amount of time and info on each thing. Great job man.
The behringer ultra metal is one of the best distortion pedals for the price and sounds as good or better than much more expensive ones.I liked it so good that I bought another one.I have expensive pedals also but that behringer can do anything from blues to crunch to full out distortion. Many knobs to get the sound you want..Don't let the plastic case stop you from buying it unless you are going to stomp on it or jump up and down on it.🎸🎸🎸🎸🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍
*Hey!* .... That natural wood finish is badass!
KSR, abasi, and revv were my favorites personally. Cleanest sound probably the KSR but all 3 are excellent choices
Great reviews.
"If you dial this too loud it's gonna sound like ass" - idk why that cracked me up more than it should.
Keep up the good work!
Revv Pedal is my Favorite 💜
Ceres and Revv sound the best for me. That Solar looks sick!
Revv G3 is my baby that I have on my board and goodness the tones that thing blesses me with. Glad to see it get some love here 🙌🏼 Some other rad pedals as well!!!
Terrific video Ola! Great showcase and advice as always :)
I got 20 years of skill and a minimum-wage job. Thank you for showing me a pedal that doesn't cost more than my guitar.
Yeah my single coil strat copy costed me $70 I'm getting a boss metalcore just to play Thrash Metal or some classic Death Metal like Death pull the plug
Dude, I'm digging that new solar natural finish guitar. Ola, you're really making it difficult to not spend my money!
Just bought a second hand Revv G3 for £130. Can't wait to receive it. I love yours and Rabea Massaad's demos of this pedal.
Great vid Ola! Idk, just me but... the Horizon and the Ceres sounded very, very good. Sounded like i could shape and sculpt such a sick sound with them, tight with chug and saturation
Damn that guitar is just a masterpiece, looks so good !
at that price, we should just stack 3 behringer
Love the metal core video u did. Playing it through the effects loop sounded 🔥
I've only seen 2 of your videos so far, and don't even play metal, but your videos are so entertaining I had to subscribe.
Love my Rev pedal. Best thing I've bought in years for my sound.
My top three are the KSR Ceres, Abasi Pathos and Revv G3.
I picked all the ones you did, actually. I had a tie between the Friedman and KSS with it nudging out because it wasn't as dry. Although... Both of those blended in a mix would sound incredible.
Thank you Ola! All of these pedals sound like they can be eq’ed in a mix to sound the same, except for the Behringer, because it lacks a bit of detail, and the Eyecore, because it has its own distinct sound. The Metal Core sounds the best to my ears, but then I already have my heart set on the Metal Zone.
Honestly the Friedman sounds the most like a tube amp but the KSR is an aggressive monster. I’d i was on a super cheap budget the metalcore could do the job just fine.
I have the G3, love it.
Bought the Revv G3 after that and it's actually very good, thanks Ola!
You need to do that video every year and you should do it for amps aswell^^
Excellent Clip!
My #1 is a Keeley Modded Metal Zone. It has all the aforementioned Mids!
Thank You Ola
My two favorites were the BOSS Metal Core and the KSR Ceres. However, you could totally make the Behringer Heavy Distortion work and it costs a lot less.
The Behringer with an EQ in the chain would probably be killer
The Metal Core holds together but sounds so so solid state pedalsoundy.
I fell in love when I saw that Eyemaster. Even more so when I heard it.
Lol
Thanks a lot for this video! My favorites are Pathos Abasi and Revv G3.
Before watching the video, i had my eyes set on the Friedman and i thought the REVV was like the ultimate distortion pedal. To my ears and in my own opinion, the best overall was the boss metalcore, followed by the Precision Drive and the Behringer. The REVV and the Eyemaster sounded too compressed and really boxy. I think I'll go for the Precision Drive now and have the BOSS as my second option, thanks Ola, great video.
My setup for the last year or so has been a Precision Drive into a metalcore. It's crushing my man and I highly recommend. The metalcore itself is probably the most underrated hidden gem in the pedal world.
@@jedi982 I use a DS-1 as a soft overdrive and I love it, so i´m sure the metalcore will deliver. Will try that setup definitely, so i´ll get the precision drive and I´ll search for the metalcore second hand.
Friedman BE-OD Deluxe is 10x better than the Revv G3, Even the Non Deluxe version of BE-OD is better than the G3. Glad i sold my G3. But the Metal Core pedal is iconic. It rivals the BE-OD Deluxe surely but still imma go with the Friedman since im bias towards them. Everyone is saying that Boss's Drives sucks and theyre Modulations are only good but to me theyre good.
Metal Core>Power Stack>Heavy Metal on Boss's. Metal Core is always worth getting. That Behringer is also bang for the buck yet sounds good.
The Metal core. I prefer the Metal zone but I’m old school that way. I’ve been using the Metal zone since 96’ and have always been able to snatch the tone I want. It’s simple, cheap and Metal. 🤘...like my wamen.
Same here MT2 in front of an tube amp 4 life haha
I like women too bro
Awesome video. Great to hear the differences so detailed !!! Try a Wampler Sovereign next time: very curious to see how you like that as it has a lot of options
Love the rev, pathos, and KSR!!!
Man that Behringer sounded as good as half of them (with the settings as in video).
That Revv G3 is awesome tone.. I want
Great video Ola, thanks as always bro!
Awesome metal core made this list. It is a good distortion pedal. I recently bought one on the second hand market for $50. The only 2 distortion pedals I have on my board are the Boss Metal Core and the Friedman BE-OD. I also use Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal as an EQ (everything on 10 except distortion on 0). Awesome video as always Ola!
What’s a better pedal for chugging and seven string metal? Metal core or Friedman?
To my ears that Friedman just sounded the best
Pathos,, #1.
I think the same.
I like the revv🤘🏻 sounds killer.
Eyemaster! Love the Sunlight Studios sound.
Man I’m using the ML-2 into the clean channel of my XXX and it absolutely slays exactly what I’m looking for. Super tight, punchy and so much gain!! Hands down my favorite pedal I’ve ever played for distortion. Peace homie
I thought I will like the Revv the most but damnit that Friedman BEOD is a sweet sweet beast :O Oh and big plus for the Eyemaster to makes me smile every time. There is something really charming in it :)
Same exact thoughts, except Eyemaster is no longer the style I prefer.
I really didn't like the Revv, but that Friedman is tiiiiiiiiits.
Got the Revv3 after your last review. My favorite distortion pedal so far and I'm a collector. Cheers Ola
This is a video you should do every year since you're always testing out new pedals :D
Chug comparison at the end was very helpful. That KSR sounds great to my ears, 3 channels is pretty awesome too. Of course it's the most expensive one! Lol.
Amazing! All pedals are being used as a preamp, right? I choose the Behringer because i'm from Brazil and these more expensive pedals probably will cost my arm.
The metal core sounds tight
Please keep the hardcore riffs coming man ❤️
Ola Englund I have to thank for this video. I was so into the Eyemaster that I immediately stopped paying attention to the rest and ordered one. Its buck-nasty and me and my band are in love with my new sound. Thanks so much!!!
