When I was at the Daytoms 24 there were people inquiring to get the lowest numbers are sequentially numbered caps selling for 50.00 each. No surprise to see them on Ebay the following day with the lowest numbered selling for over 500.00 and getting it. Crazy.
Hahaha! The silly part is if you google pictures of say model car production you see they have 50 cars lined up to put decals on and what not. So you know they just grab label the base and grab a batch of cars and secure them to the base. They are not coming off a linear production line like an automobile where you could definitively say this was the first one. I admit I do get that dopamine hit when I see a low number but really should not add value.
Great models and video. Love the handsome leather bases. Don't know how they make any money when only making 100 models or so. Great history as well as your efforts to dig up everything you can find about these cars and drivers. Funny, I've never seen a video of any model owner, including me, that has #1 of a run or the last number.
Thank you... Yes if you make only 80 or 100 how does that make money? Have to figure they had no driver variants so maybe total count is 400ish? Still. I do wonder if they take say an existing 1/43 and try to scale it up then refine to save money? Not sure if that would be the same as remodeling an old home versus building new? Might be easier to just start new? The only #1 I ever had where ones I custom ordered so they were 1 of 1 hahahaha. I have seen on CK Model Cars, they will hold a specific number and sell it for more. Like the number matching the cars number or the car model number like 963. # 5 was probably the lowest I have gotten where I did not control that.
Excellent vid! Thanks. Some points: the Alboreto car has Goodyear on the rear side of the rear wing, while the Johansson car has Agip. Agip is correct and I have no idea why Tecnomodel placed Goodyear on all of the Alboreto cars ! The driver figures look amazing. I have the earlier version without the driver figure for the Johansson car. The difference is that apart from the lack of driver figure is that the wheels on your version seem to be taken from their 1984 version. The tyres are also more rounded on your version than mine , though I think my version 's wheels/tyres look a touch better in terms of accuracy/proportions. The GP Replicas version is quite possibly the worst proportioned model I've ever seen for its price. The nose on the Tecnomodel should have more of a dip in the centre section, but still a great addition. Thanks again.
Thank you for the comments. I do not know about the Goodyear/Agip for those specific races. I looked online and can find a few photos of the rear for both drivers and the both seem to have run Goodyear or Agip at various points. I cannot find a Canada (Albereto) or Nurburgring (Johansson) photo of the rear to verify. Good catch though. I missed it completely! I saw the Champions and Koni decals on the Johansson model but totally missed the rear. Good insight on the tires. I had not compared them to the 1984. I figure they do things to be economical so the 84/85 fronts are probably the same since they were made recently (driver versions). Yes the more I look at the GP the more I am befuddled! It is awful. Because I never made a video I did not spend much time looking at it. I knew it was off but did not realize how off or specifically why. I believe they will make a driver version at some point so wonder if they will scrap it and start fresh? They will make an 87/88 driver version and curious if they make improvements to that as the carbon fiber is stamped in the floor rather than a decal. At the time they where the only ones available so you had no choice and you accept the issues. hahahaha. I did notice that there is not that "kink" in the nose of the Tecnomodel as is on the GP. I do not like the way that looks but it is correct. Tecno missed that.
Even in 1:43 scale the GP Replicas version is messed up in proportion. I'll stick with my hotwheels elite version, even if it does have a little paint rash. Correct proportion is way more important than little details.
@Tom_Hadler best option for 1/43 is the Tameo version which I have Factory built. The Hotwheels is very affordable but unfortunately also has serious flaws with proportions. The height of the rear wing, height of the front wheels and the extended length of the front nose+ too large number 27. But unlike GP Replicas, they do not cost an arm and a leg!

Totally agree.
You do feel good nevertheless
Oh, I also think your steering wheel is smaller than mine? Or possibly more detailed? Would like to see a close up
Hmmm. Would be odd to be different but again if maybe they pulled it from the 1984 variant? The GP one is huge and super "fuzzy" hahaha
