I'm still realising just how influential this man's words and voice were upon me when I was growing up. He makes this band. When you listen to morrissey you are drawn into his world. he is extraordinary.
I adore the Troy Tate version of this, which Marr remastered (or rather mastered fullstop) for 'Sound of ...' I hope so much he remasters the entire Tate album, not to mention the four studio albums and the compilations. Genius.

the Jabroni jangle pop, Johnny Marr was one of the pioneers of Jangle Pop along with The Cleaners From Venus. They influenced bands such as Girls, Ariel Pink, Real Estate, and quite obviously Mac DeMarco who has started the new wave of Jangle Pop.

No, it's not. He was unable to get a boner. Hence the line "He will not rise for anyone." He suffered from this problem until late in life... and then Viagra was created!
I interpret it as a man who is shy, emotional and cares about the sanctity of sex, but an emotionally damaged woman keeps propositioning him for sex when he isn't ready to just do the deed.
I love Johnny Marr's haunting outro to this song. By Morrissey's mannerisms during the outro, it make him feel some type of way.
thenaturalhype it’s the main reason I like this song aha
I love a haunting outro.
"She is too rough and i am too delicAte...:"
his expressions at the end are so filled with emotion when Marr plays that outro riff. Brilliant.

I love when he bites his lip then grits his teeth at 01:21.. you can tell the lyrics mean a lot to him.
"I'm not the man you think I am"
The ending sounds so good because its like it doesnt belong to the song its so beautiful and haunting. Well played johnny
Andy oh Andy, u r so adorable, and so talented. Damn.
#1 bass player!!!
39 years later I conclude that their first LP is actually their best.
Morrissey = GENIUS!!!
I love this song. 🥰
What a fantastic performance
Now finally I get what "sorrow's native son" means.
3:00 just beautiful
Ok
how cool is johnny marr? in his keith richards phase
God, listen to that Rickenbacker.
A Rickenbacker and a Roland Jazz Chorus. Pure JM
The lyrics are equally comical, divine, mesmerizing, profound, ethereal, engaging, rapturous & striking. Not unusual considering who conjured it!

Pretty Girls Make Graves
The Smiths
Upon the sand, upon the bay
There is a quick and easy way, you say
Before you illustrate
I'd rather state
I'm not the man you think I am
I'm not the man you think I am
And sorrow's native son
He will not smile for anyone
And pretty girls make graves
End of the pier, end of the bay
You tug my arm, and say
Give in to lust, give up to lust
Oh, heaven knows we'll soon be dust
But I'm not the man you think I am
I'm not the man you think I am
And sorrow's native son
He will not rise for anyone
And pretty girls make graves
(Ok)
I could have been wild and I could have been free
But nature played this trick on me
She wants it now
And she will not wait
But she's too rough and I'm too delicate
Then, on the sand
Another man, he takes her hand
A smile lights up her stupid face
And well, it would
I lost my faith in womanhood
I lost my faith in womanhood
I lost my faith
Ohh, ohh, ohh
(Hand in glove)
The sun shines out of our behinds
she wants it now and she will not wait, but she's too rough and i'm too delicate.
genius lyrics
This song is lovely :)
I can't believe Morrissey exists
Yeah.
@Jowind Which is an adaptation of a line from the Richard Burton Film "Villain"
Morrisey is like a God no wait he is God love his music with a passion !!!!!!!
TURN IT UP!
♡
a reference from kerouac's dharma bum. If you don't know who kerouac is i suggest you start to re-assess your life.
That guitar riff though
Well it's true.

why does that make you laugh?
Maybe one who doesn’t realize that’s it’s wrong

Cocteau Twins , Switchblade Symphony
Disappear Always by Wild Nothing
you could also try the whole shoegaze genre but they're mostly devoid of this kinda arpeggios

Sounds like the makings of a great couple. XD

ive lost my faith in womanhood
Con esa pepa, y no poder corresponder la atracción sexual femenina: "La naturaleza me jugo esta trampa".
She was so proud to state that she turned straight men gay. I lost my faith in womanhood.
This song is about a gay man who is frustrated by a girl's constant advances.
