Hi! I'm going to the University of Rochester next year as a freshman. Would you recommend a triple and would you recommend the Tiernan Hall? How is it having a communal bathroom?
Hi! Congrats on getting accepted! I will say that getting a triple is definitely not the most convenient situation in the world, especially if you don’t connect super well with your roommates. Both of my roommates were international students from China and they had known each other before so it was difficult to connect with them for me, which made the rooming situation a bit more difficult and more awkward. Space is also limited so that’s something to keep in mind. The way I had my room set up made it pretty easy so I didn’t really mind the lack of space but it can definitely get inconvenient at times. Triples are about 80% cheaper than the other dorms though so that’s definitely a positive. It all depends on what kind of person you are and how you get along with your roommates.
Tiernan’s a great hall and very close-knit. I really enjoyed my time there and I’ll definitely be back to visit. I can also say that I’m definitely staying close to a lot of the people I met there. As for communal bathrooms, it’s kind of what you would expect. Not too bad but not too great either. I can’t speak for the girls but the guys definitely stayed somewhat clean but it’s definitely not an ideal situation. You just get used to it :/
