Nice to see this performance of Paco on a British tv show.Bulerias are often played with hand clapping percussion and even a second guitar for rythm.Paco was playing since he was a child and did some flamenco recordings at 11,12,13 years old backing his brother Pepe on vocals. He never learned to read music,so when he recorded Manuel de Falla´s or Rodrigo´s music with a symphonic orchestra he learned his parts by ear. What a musician!
many people have said that paco didint know much about music theory and he was criticized by many classical guitarist but lets be honest paco lucia was de best guitarist of all time no doubt about that .. and makes it even more badass he learnt everything on the streets of andalucia
@@regev1970 if I had time traveling powers I would go to every performance of his, then after I’ve seen it all I’d do it all over again, to call him “one of a kind” would be a VAST understatement, more like one in infinity

Just good, he was god of the guitar, Keith Richard said "You say I am a guitar legend. You have no idea. There are only two or three guitarists that can be considered legends. Above all is Paco de Lucía,"
Is anyone realizing what we just saw?... this is not someone who plays well... I see things here that I have never seen in anyone... I don't know if we will ever see them again. see something like that. I just don't know what can be said about this... I'm not prepared to judge it, I can simply look and be grateful that it existed and that I was able to enjoy it. Without a doubt one of the best guitarists in history....
This is the early Paco, before his prime, which he reached around 1982 - playing and composing. No one so far composed like him, and possibly never played like that, in Flamenco. My wife and I saw him 6 times in San Francisco/ Berkeley and one last time in 2012 in Las Vegas, with Farru! Even though he had slowed down by then, it was still Paco. When Amigo came, for example, it wasn't the same level. Also, Paco formed amazing "bands" - to produce new versions of his solo compositions.
Check out the "Friday night in San Francisco" recording of Paco de Lucia playing with John McLaughlin and Al di Meola - 3 guitars instrumental. Also check out the recordings of El Camarón de la Isla, a Spanish singer who performed with Paco in his band. As this video is about the Bulerias, it would be nice to experience what happens when there's a band of, say, two guitarists and a few hand clappers plus a singer. The other famous Spanish guitarist i this band was nicknamed Tomatito. Sung bulerias: Viejo Mundo, Arte y Majestad, La Jaca Que Yo Teniá, Bulerias de la Perla.
@@nicolasdelaforge7420 - thank you for the correction - my bad ambiguity. The antecedent to "his" in "his band" was meant to be El Camarón. And I meant "band" as a variant of a potentially ad-hoc "orchestra" in a musical sense, not legal.
In the imaginary line where angels give us our talent god came and took Paco out of that line, and gave him his talent himself! You are so missed maestro.

The buleria compas... the drums of war and agility.. bum tak tak bum tak tak bum tak bum tak bum tak, from start to finish, no change, to keep the unity of subject..because in flamenco, the beat is responsible for defining the prevailing emotions of the piece, and flamenco recognizes a few emotions as standard human emotions like solea, fandango, alergia, buleria, sugria However Paco does a great use of beat syncabation The melody is a brielient costumizations of a collectetion of folklore falestas
It is not Lushia, it is "Lusia", although written with "c" instead of "s". Also, it is not "Bo-le-ria", it is "bol-e-rias" (accent tin the "I", and spoke quickly.
Pffff, tricky one. In standard Spanish it would be pronounced "looth-ee-ah". Being from the Cádiz province, where they do "ceceo" (but also "seseo" in e.g. the city of Cádiz), he may have pronounced his own name (his mother's name, actually) as either "looth-ee-ah" or "loos-ee-ah". For the rest of us: it is pronounced as either of those two, depending on the region or country the speaker is from.
@@jennifersmusicpage Just a traditional Bulerias - I don't think Paco had composed yet at that time, such as Zyrab, Palenque, Lucia (for his mother) and many others...
Alright no offense really, but you being a music teacher and not knowing Paco de Lucía? It's a bit like never hearing of BB King, Eric Clapton, or Mark Knopfler. Actually, Clapton once said "...Paco was God, and the rest of us were mere apostles". Proper legend, he was. Cheers from Patagonia!

Absolutely flawless. There is nothing this lady could react to here except by showing her awe at Paco
Thanks he’s soooo amazing!❤️
He was definitively FANTASTIC! Yes, he passed away some years ago. One of my few regrets in life losing his performance in Sao Paulo in the 90's.
He's considered the absolute GOAT by listeners and players. Imagine the insane amount of time he's spent practicing 😳
