    Bought UTESPERLARE a few months ago. Overall I'm satisfied with the quality and comfort. Only downside is that after few weeks it started to creak as hell. Noticed that creak was coming from side armrests due to screws rubbing into metal threads. The more you tighten it the more it creaks. Anyway, putting some WD-40 on the screws and deep inside the backrest side threads eliminated noise completely. Probably some universal grease would be better for long time.

      Does your utesperlare align? The bottom half and top half I mean. If the blue line aligns from the top to the bottom. Mine doesn't one side is outside the line while the other is inside. Also between the handle and the seat 1 has more room. And if I shake 1 of my handles I can hear a piece moving inside.

    • @xNaceryx
      @xNaceryx Рік тому +1

      In this case I just recomend you to put some rubber washers and loctite blue on the threads. The loctite blue will keep the screws to be tightly screwed and the rubber should dampen the creaks.

    JÄRVFJÄLLET owner here, glad to see it's not just me having issues with this chair. Not only does the headrest cause your head to be forced into a more unneutral forward position, it also has no give at all which makes it like resting my head against a wall. I also experienced the same issue you had where one arm was a little loose (not quite as loose but still loose) as well as one was almost a quarter of an inch higher at the lowest setting than the other arm. The worst part though is the chair base itself, it starts off firm which is great but that doesn't last long. After only 4 months of use at 8-10 hours a day, I am literally sitting on the wood panel below now as the cushion has worn and did not last at all. For reference I'm 5' 9 and only weight 150-160. Feels like sitting on a school bleacher anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour of use. My sit bone is a little more prominent than others so that might be a factor, but even for the average user I feel they would experience the same issue perhaps a few more months down the line. It's a shame because it's a great looking chair and has a very nice design, but it's ruined by cheap materials. I wish I had seen more reviews first before pulling the trigger as it's definitely not worth the $300 I paid for it. It feels more like a chair aimed at casual daily use rather than long sessions of daily use.

    Hey all, made a huge mistake here - the jarvfjallet lumbar CAN be adjusted. However, it was at the lowest setting during my testing so still too low for me but might be better for people I’d say 5’9 and taller! Chairs still way too wobbly and cheap for a nearly $300 chair - there are a lot better out there for that price!!!

      I think you did not assemble it properly or you have got a defective unit. You also have given a poor approach to the intended way of use. Distance from the seat to the center of back cushion support on lowest is around 15-16cm if anyone is interested. I almost give up on buying after this review but decided to risk it.

      i love my jarvfjallet on my gaming setup.. would want a second one for my seperate home office, but i'm not sure about leather seating... sadly they stopped the version with cloth seat
      the new armrests indeed look a little frail compared to my original ones

      @@Quarknjaguar I use the same chair with leather seating for 3 months now, It is fine, I use it for around 8-10h every day, no issues...seems pretty durable, no signs of the wear. But I see a wrinkles at front because I put my legs forward and extend seat forward to max so the weight is all on the edge of the seat. It flattens if I rub it, but could show a wear off in like year if I do not change how I sit. I am confident to recommend it to close friends so if that means anything.

    Nice video but I have to mention that:
    1. In jarvfjallet the seat depth doesnt move only 1 inch as you mentioned and as you show in the video. Obviously you didnt push it that much forward, it has more distance than that. I have tried the chair in Ikea
    2. In the matchspel the fact that headrest moves down the way you use it, it is normal. Headrests are not supposed to support the top of the head, they are supposed to support the neck, thats why it moves down the way you use it
    3. In Jarvfjallet lumbar support is adjustable and it gets lower than that, it is not in the lower position as you say. From what I see in the video it has more distance to lower.
    Other than that it is a nice video, perhaps you should try to make videos with taller people as well, because each chair feels different according to the height

    • @Ahnestly
      @Ahnestly  2 роки тому +2

      hey Antreas, I am not a light man (176 lbs) and I threw my hips forward and tried it multiple times and can't get it to move more? Maybe my chair is defective? As for the headrest, headrests should be diverse. it can be for the neck, but some people prefer it on their head! And for the Jarvfjallet, you are totally correct, but I believe it was in the lowest position. I retried it after smoeone mentioned it and even at lowest position, it's really uncomfortable for me! I think I def made some mistakes, but overall, having tested other chairs in these chairs' price point, I can safely say I'd recommend my other choices!

    interesting...I just got the Matchspel...but don't have any of the issues you discussed. I'm 5'9- athletic build. My shoulder sit right into the frame and do not touch the metal edges, the reclining tension is fine. I actually lifted my feet up every inch or so of reclining and it held in place with no effort on my end. I think the critical flaw part is a big miss. It's curved to support your neck, not for you to rest the back of your head on. If you adjust it to the right spot, it'll support your neck so your aren't straining it when leaning back. Unless you are going to recline to stare at the ceiling, its a moot point.

    I think your Järvfjället review was quite lackluster.
    First of all, the seat depth adjustment is a bit limited as you say. But it does help someone like me who is 6’2". I find I get good thigh support when pushing the seat all the way out, and reclining to the first stop/position after upright.
    The headrest is not as bad as you say. I’ve never even been close to it when sitting upright, only when reclining. Which is the wanted effect IMO.
    The lumbar support pad IS adjustable in height. With a good range too actually.
    The metal frame is not annoying at all, even if you are tall with broad shoulders like me.
    All in all, I’m quite happy with my fabric Järvfjället. Definitely the best office chair for the money in Norway where I’m from. I’ve had the leather version with the adjustable armrests too (the one you’re reviewing), but I hated it. The leather is just slippery and annoying. So I returned it, and went back to my white one in fabric :)
    I’m not trying to be rude. Just giving a different perspective on a quite good budget chair!
    I’m saying all this as someone who also owns an Embody btw.

    • @Ahnestly
      @Ahnestly  2 роки тому +9

      Hey I’m totally ok with the different perspective! I def got the the lumbar support wrong. I just resat in it today and my opinion still stands and here’s why:
      1. The lumbar can adjust but it’s still too tall for me. I am convinced this chair is for taller people but I didn’t bring friends to test it unfortunately!
      2. I still don’t love the lumbar and headrest bc of their flat designs. It prickled my head while sitting up and the lumbar felt frustrating bc it was like I had a block in my spine since it doesn’t have that much give (I have the pleather version, might be different with fabric?)
      3. My biggest gripe is still that they don’t offer back tilt ease adjustment and so you rely on self pressure. This chair really does not offer an auto-adjusting tilt mechanism so I constantly found myself straining my thighs to sit in it. I realize that maybe if you’re tall you may not have this issue but you can see when I tilt back, my heels come off the floor, putting a TON of strain on my thighs and super uncomfortable overall. To me, this was the biggest frustration.
      I’m gonna have some friends over next week who are 6’+. I’ll have them sit in it and Who knows, I may walk back my review in a future video!!
      Thanks for the different perspective and more than anything, thanks for being respectful. Really appreciate it!!!!

    quite strange matchspel headrest you got there. mine and my brother's both have a very tight height adjustment, so tight we could barely adjust the headrest with both hands. this however help the headrest to stay in place thus nullifying the critical flaw you mentioned

  • @leakyabstraction

    Somebody has to explain to me why this self-locking mechanism even exists. Is it from the age of pirates when their ships were tilting a lot and so sadly all their office chairs rolled to the side of the ship? Because I find that the floor where I live is quite consistently flat, and chairs don't tend to move by themselves. They only move when I intend to move them, and in that case I do wish them to roll instead of having to pick up a humongous piece of furniture. 😂

    I'm considering buying JÄRVFJÄLLET and got the chance to try it out today at IKEA. Now, I realize this test is over a year now and perhaps IKEA have done some adjustments since you did the test but there are a couple of things I can't help feeling a bit confused about.
    First off, are you sure that the "seat adjustment" you mention is "a joke" due to the mere "one inch" slide capability? Cause when I tested it, I would say your able to slide several "inches", in fact (I'm not too familiar with US metrics but I'd say closer to 6-7 cm at least).
    Then you mention "your feet will slide off" the star base of the chair. I don't get it. Why do you want to put the feet on the star base? It's not meant to have feet on it! Well, It's not a design flaw as I see it anyway.
    Then you mention "you really don't like" having to use your legs to be able to push the chair backwards. I don't know if this is due to the test object you received or some ergonomic uniqueness on your part, but no IKEA chair I've owned or tested in the store today had that kind of issue. You lean - chair follows. That's it! No leg push needed. Traditional gaming chairs, on the other hand, I agree, have this issue.
    Then we have the head rest. Perhaps, I'm prepared to meet you half way here. Yes, the head rest may push your head forward a bit, but you don't really use it when gaming or doing office work anyway! How do you sit by the office table? I don't understand how it "gets in the way", as you say. I usually only use a head rest when watching films or doing more relaxed activities. I'm very happy to find a head rest on a chair in this price class, considering the rest of the features. That said, some sort of tilt would perhaps been preferred but not at the expanse of a (large) price increase.
    The lumbar has already been mentioned here and although I haven't got the chance to use the chair for a long time, as far as I could feel, it seems well positioned and flexible.
    Some things I do agree on though. The arm rests do feel a bit to cheap and plastic. I'm sure they'll do their work if mounted properly but, otherwise, you can always remove them. Or perhaps replace them (hopefully without losing the warranty). The ones I tested weren't lose but rather too easy to adjust. You barely needed to touch the things in order to change the positions.
    In the end, you mentioned that there are better chairs in this price class but I failed to see witch ones. Perhaps you could clarify that for me, if you please?
    For reference I'm 170 cm (5'58'') and around 76 kg (167 lb).

    Too bad I didn't watch your video before my purchase of Matchspel chair. I just disassembled it and I'm returning it to Ikea today. This chair is a disaster for short people, the front part is leaning you towards the ground, the back support is pushing you towards and there just not enough pad at the front to support your legs. Also, the chair is in general a few cm higher than others, so if you have a lower office desk like I do, you'll feel like being elevated. Ikea is great, but their chairs are not the best option. At least not for me.

Overall its not a bad chair but doesnt fit to me. The cusion is abit firm, hard to sit on it for more than an hour. Also when you recline. The sit doesnt recline as well. Basically you’re putting alot of pressure on your upper butt and lower back. The back is tall which is good for me since im 6’3 but the lumbar support is bad. You can move it up n down but probably only for an inch, its useless cuz it never hit to the spot where i feel comfortable and its really stiff, more like a lumbar attack. My suggestion is that always sit on the chair for more than 20 mins in different postures if you are able to test them.

    Get a second hand Markus and DIY the arms to your liking! This is what I did and I love it to this day. You have to also consider the aftersales and warranty support of these chairs compared to the other budget ones that feels absurdly plastic.

    I love the Jarvfjallet, I've tried it out in store and am addicted because it is the only office chair I have ever sat in that is tall enough for my head. Sadly it has been out of stock for months at all of the Ikea's near me. It also looks like it is being discontinued for some reason. Such a bummer.

  • @xNaceryx

    I purchased both the Matchspel and Jarffjallet that were on sale on my local IKEA store (120 and 200 euro) and my overall impression is that these are actually pretty good upgrade over the gaming chairs they were replacing. Open mesh back, non frivolous "gamer" designs, independent back tilt and the most important of all, it's way easier to replace the covers and cushions when worn out (wich is something that will definitelly happen with ANY chair).
    I actually was going to use the Matchspel and give the Jarf to my girlfriend but she decided to take the the Match as it was shorter and had a softer headrest. She didn't had issues with the fact that the chair was missing lumbar support (as she actually don't like them) and didn't had the issue of touching the metal bar (but she's 50kg and usually mantains proper posture). I also found that Matchspel armrest ar far superior to the Jarf as they are bigger and WAY more stable, they are also mounted to the arms with screws, meaning than you can just purchase better ones at Aliexpress, and screw them (or simply add some cheap armrest cushions) and in fact, a lot of the caveats that these chairs may have seem to be easy fixable with a little bit of DIY.
    I know that there are similar if not better chairs at those price ranges (like the Staples Hyken) but a lot of these brands don't ship where I live (Canary Islands) or include additional shipping costs+taxes which makes them a way more expensive, also being able to test them and purchase them in person makes the IKEA ones a lot more convenient (specially if you ever have to RMA or make use of the warranty).
    P.D: I think your review is wrong regarding Jarf lumbar support as it definitely does allows to adjust it's height sliding it. In my case I never had issues with it (but I'm also taller - 184cm).

    I'd recommend the "Hattefjäll" if you want an Ikea office-chair. It's their top non-gaming chair, which I tried today at my local Ikea against their two top gaming-chairs ("Matchspel" and "Gruppspel"). The non-gaming one felt the most comfortable and sturdy to me - it doesn't come with a headrest, which doesn't bother me but might be a no-go for some people.

    It's pretty comfy, decent back support, I love the tilt feature! As someone who's 5'11 while the head rest obviously isn't right there to lay your head back & enjoy like premium offerings it's as just the right spot that I can lay my head back & have some support

    Great review, Dan. I was considering the Huvudspelare but now I will continue to look for alternatives.
    However I dont agree with your assessment of the self locking casters. I have an ikea chair with these and for me the logical design would have been locking (or at least semi-locking) when you sit down and unlocked when you stand up. When I am at my desk, any leaning forward and the chair tries to push away from the desk, which for me is very annoying.

    Hi, Indonesian here, at this point i've been using the Jarvfjallet for a year now. I'm 6'1 and 205.something lbs. Straight of the bat, the arms on my chair is static a.k.a cannot be adjusted (in your vid it shows it can go up and down) and I HATE it! It has this weird relationship with my desk, it's like if I set my arms' chair levels with the top of my desk, it bumps with my desk so I kinda like need to stretch my arms further to type and if lower my chair so it can slide under my desk, the way I type is awkward like I have to raise my hands a bit and pushing my shoulder upward, in a long run (i sit 10-12+ hoursI my laptop is my life, i play games, watch movies, work, etc.) it gives me a headache. Well, i can go wider (spread my arms open), but then my hand will tilt inward when approaching my keyboard (I use normal size keyboard, not TKL) and the palms like bent outward, it's weird okay. Let's see where was i, oh yeah, lets go to the lumbar support. Man, this thing is aggressive as F. What happen to me now; i rest my lower back on that lumbar support and the rest (upper back) just bent forward, what I'm trying to say is, it doesn't motivates you to seat upward (as supposed to). So, i don't know if you going to believe me on onis, it gives pressure to my kidneys, well that's extreme and I happen to be someone who somewhat believes in acupuncture points, i mean bloodflow to kidneys area somewhat impeded. Moreover, when you tilt back to chill, guess what, that F-ing lumbar support really digging into your back, not the kind of chill imaginable. Hold on, I'm not done here. Seat height. I never get my seat height perfectly, if i sit with my knee 90 degrees, it put pressure on my tailbone (oh yeah the cushion also a problem) and if i raised it just a little bit, it put pressure where my back thigh met with the seat frame, you know, behind the knee. What? just buy new padding for the seat you say? Here's the thing, the seat is big I give you that, you can sit cross-legged no problem, now, I couldn't find big enough padding for the entire seat (maybe I need to put some effort into it). Anyway, if you put smaller padding on top of the seat, what happens, you'll get extra pressure on your back thigh; one when the padding ends, and when the cushion ends. Oh man, I can go on and on... What I'm trying to share with you and probably your followers, if you really, really want an ikea chair, seat on it for at lest 30 mins and drag that chair around to several table (dining table, work table, whatever table ikea has in that area) before you make decision. I bought this chair for around 200+ USD, and it's a lot, to put you on perspective, 200USD can feed a family of four for 2-3 weeks around here, well maybe i exaggerating a bit there... a bit, not much heck i pay my maid that amount of money monthly. So yeah, if you confused what chair to buy and HM/SC is not even in your financial radar and if you think Ikea is the safest bet, well, it's not. Talk (persuasion or manipulation what have you) to your partner or your family about getting, at least, SecretLab's. Sorry for the long rant, i re-read my comment and i thought i can make it shorter, but hell, let the world know... Let it burn.

    • @rizalyara
      @rizalyara 2 роки тому +1

      Ah rite, i'm not getting paid by SecretLab, I think at this point any chair reviewed in this channel is better than what I currently have. Look, my Jarfjallet is my long-researched-my-first-endeavor to so-called ergonomic chair north to 100USD and it was my "oh I'm going to use this chair for a long time since it's so good and I could afford it barely without selling my kid". I understand, to be fair, when Ikea make a product, it is intended for the world with all those varieties, some might like it, some might love it, while some might not work at all, I get it, they want to cater as wide as the market they can grab.
