Hey Joey, What I’ve learned from keeping convicts is that one reason why the male may be chasing the female is because he is ready to breed again, but since the fry are in the tank, the female is less likely to be willing to cooperate. Which will cause the male to react aggressively. The second issue may be that the male sees the female as a threat to the fry. So in these instances, I would either remove the fry and see how the adults behave. Lastly, what I could think of is that the bond between the mates has broken and the male is just being territorial against an intruder. Though, putting in some dither fish could strengthen the bond especially if there are fry. However, if the male is just being aggressive to the female for no other reason, then it’s best to remove the male from the main tank for a couple of weeks. Allow the female to establish the tank as her territory and then reintroduce the male after about 2-3 weeks. Since he is larger, he’d have an easier chance to defend itself.
Some time ago I wrote a comment saying it's only a matter of time when we see Joey creating something like a canadian version of the OFR. I won't lie to you, the ending made me pretty happy.
I remember my walking catfish named Catherine Parr was just reintroduced into her tank after a water change but two hours later, Catherine was not in her tank. Catherine is a full size catfish so she isn’t exactly hard to miss and I found her crawling on my garden in the mud where the water had turned into a puddle that hasnt dried up fully since garden was freshly watered and she was alive. She had to be quarantined for over a month since she has sustained significant injuries from the jump and the crawl over tiles and dirt. She’s still alive today and the wounds have healed up as if it never happened. Now I keep her in a larger tank with a glass lid and dont ever take her out of her tank since she is quite a feisty girl and she has tried to nibble on my fingers while I was siphoning the tank.
I searched for my fullgrown Oscar in his Tank during relocating. Took all Wood and stones out... nothing. Came back a little later and turns out he hid IN THE SAND! like a frickin Flounder!
we used to have a Blueberry oscar that we would feed goldfish from the petstore, i'm sure i've talked about it at some point in the past, the oscar ended up not eating one goldfish in particular that looked like the calico cat we had at the time named Purrlean, so the goldfish got named Purrlish, and Bloscar seemed to have a bond with it, they would both eat the feeder goldfish despite one being a goldfish itself and eventually the goldfish got to be the same size as the oscar, but one day Purrlish was dead and Bloscar was constantly nudging them to the bubble stream at the back of the tank and stopped eating after they passed. My mother believes they had bonded and Bloscar got depressed from this incident so i would like to know your thoughts on it sorry this comment doesn't really relate to the video, but it's something i thought of with all the fish getting in the mood
I remember buying my first amano shrimp, they were no where to be seen the next day, I found them alive and well in my canister filter a few weeks later haha
I remember buying Bunch of neon tetra for my random tank because at the time I didn’t know much about fish so when I got home I saw one was upside down thought it was dead until I tap the bag and it start to swim again
Omg I had a garra fish swim up my filter with about an inch of air between the water line and the opening. There was even a filter guard designed to prevent such a thing from happening. My fish must be Jesus cuz i found it in there happy as could be almost a week after it got lost
I love the community tank, I'd be so sad to see it just be Uaru only. I bet you have so much fun watching the chaos of that big tank. Let the Uaru pairs breed in a 200.
When my severums first layed eggs there were 4 of them in the tank along with a bristlenose , that time i left on a dim light next to the tank and they hatched and were brought up by the parents . i never added the light for the subsequent spawns and they have all been eaten .
I was just watching your video on killifish from 2018 yesterday! I'm trying to set up a 10 gallon tank with unusual dimensions (about 12" W x 12" D x 17" H) and stumbled across that video, and in it you mentioned that you originally planned to have a whole racking system of different killifish. I don't know if that's still something on your mind, but I wanted to bring it up in case it's something you'd consider again especially with the new gallery or the bigger building ;) I really want to get into killifish, but like you said, they're not as common as they should be, and it would be awesome to learn about keeping what looks to be some of the most colorful freshwater fish around. Just a thought!
I have lost a total of 2 fancy goldfish in a fancy goldfish tank. Nowhere to be found. Checked behind the tank, in the filter, around decorations and nothing. No bones or scales to indicate they were eaten. It's hard to imagine goldfish eating another similarly sized goldfish. Mysterious and drove me nuts for weeks continuously searching.
Good timing. Lost my small fire eel twice in the last two days. Found it in the HOB the first day. Moved it to a different tank. Couldn't find it again, found it on the floor covered in cat fur and dust. Went to pick it up and dispose of it and it wiggled. Cleaned it off, and still swimming around in the tank now. Added more gap filling on the lid. Hopefully he be in there tomorrow and not playing hide and seek.
probably the parental bond was broken when the pair was separated for an extended period of time, so the male is just behaving like any other strange fish entering the territory, the fact he hasn't eaten the fry after the rearranging is pretty incredible (for a male fish)
My vote... put the breeding pair of Auru on their own 180. Let them breed in there and showcase it. Will make things easier for you and will allow you to keep the 2000 as is. You've said it many times... the current iteration of the 2000 is your favorite. Keep it as a community tank... Removing a few species... fine, but you'll have to remove quite a few for those Auru to breed and rasei their fry successfully. Or... just build a bigger building. 😁😁
I had a similar problem where the female convict got itself stuck under some rocks, somewhere that it should never be able to fit in and the Male convict would never leave that area and evan brought it food. We eventually found it and saved it.
I lost a clownfish once, was moving rock and everything to find it as there was a super tight jump guard on the tank after so much stress i found it in the sump. SOMEHOW it got through the smallest gap, into the overflow box (one of them super slim ones) and down the pipe into the sump lol.
Joey. Are there times you set up a cot and sleep with the fish. I can only imagine how relaxing it would be! I will sleep on my couch to watch my fish in my 20g tank. I “lost” my plecco… realistically he hides in my rock pile lol
I remember having 3 tire track eels. 1 was missing and it ended up dying cause it was stuck in a drift wood. you cant even see them, they are constantly hiding. :(
Turning the 2000g into a Uaru, and Discus breeding tank would be awesome to watch. They breed the exact same way. It’s not something I’ve ever seen done in the same tank as most people don’t have a big enough tank. But 8-12 Uaru, and 8-12 Discus all in breeding pairs would be so cool to watch. Get the poor angels out though. They would be beaten to hell by the Uaru and Discus protecting the fry that follows them. The angels other then Altums are to fragile.
Nobody: Absolutely Nobody: Joey's video titles: "Everything is over, all the fish are dead, I'm quitting" The actual videos: "Hi, the fish are fine. Everything is normal." I've been subbed since the start of the gallery, but your content isn't really interesting to me anymore. Sometimes there's a good video here or there about something new, or about a cool topic, but honestly there's only so much new stuff you can be reasonably expected to do, and it seems like you're trying to use sensationalized video titles to make up for that. I'll likely peek in again from time to time, but for now I honestly can't stay subbed. I hope your fishkeeping goes well though, I just can't take the emotional shock of thinking your fish are dead every few uploads.
I almost shut down my 30 a while back. I keep a Betta in it and had not seen him for several days. I kept feeding the tank just in case, but after nearly a week I had given up and was planning on shutting the tank down on my next off day. The day before I was going to drain the tank and put it away, I walk past and Jimbo was out swimming around as though nothing had happened. I think he was hanging out near the heater behind a lot of java moss and algae (the kind sold as "moss balls") that I allowed to carpet the bottom of the tank and cover the log that the heater is behind.
I have 70+ chickens in multiple flocks. Chickens will eat dead birds. I freak when my count of every flock is off. You are rocking it and take the best precautions.
Would you consider using fry from breeding pairs as food for other tanks? Or is that something you are avoiding so you don't "train" your fish to see smaller fish as food?
I lost an 11inch weather loach one of a pair in my 6ft aquarium.... just gone..stripped out the tank, even the filter..nothing...the perspex lid was close fitting...and anyway I doubt I would have missed it if it did get out...no other pets..now just one perplexed weather loach left.....that was three years ago...still freaks me out.
That was a big hint at the end of your video ,I think most of us figured you would build bigger bigger and bigger. 👏👏👏👏👏 😂 Last Spring I received six gobies that I had ordered. They were so tiny I had a hard time finding them in a 5 gal . Quarantine tank. Finally after about 2 weeks I found 5 of them and one had jumped out of the tank 😢 Wish someone would have told me they were jumpers .Well now I know learned my lesson , do more reading , thought I had done enough , NEVER ENOUGH ! ! 🤗. HAPPY NEW YEAR and may 2022 be one of your best . 😻 👍
I hear you with missing fish! I once had a kuhli loach that disappeared 5 minutes after putting it in the tank............3 years later after writing it off as dead it suddenly lunged out at a pellet from behind some stones. Ok, doesn't sound bad....it was good to see it. It was about 30mm long when it went in. It was 170mm when it reappeared!!🤣
I do have a breeding pair of convicts (male marbled, female striped) and they have had 7 broods and even some of their offspring are in the 70 gallon tank with them
I had a catfish, and it likes to hide inside one of my prop boats. I couldnt find it for about a week, even during feeding time, so I took all the props out the tank to look for it. I still couldnt find it even a few hours later just to see it hop the bloody ship when I put it back in water. I never felt so bad.
that smile at the end is VERY suggestive hahaha btw that pleco is definitely able to eat the Uaru eggs. Have had is with my corrys. In the evening I had a nice patch of sterbai eggs. Next day in the morning I go check on them, just to see my pleco nibbling awey the last remaining eggs
I’m just chilling watching this video and then I see my name lol. Appreciate the shoutout Joey! And once again. Nice ending lol. “Build another building”….. here we go…. 2022 about to be crazy for the king of diy lol
Hey joey off topice n idk if im lost in the loop or anything but im just wondering about the showroom that you were setting up? Ik with the pandemic and all its probably hard to set up a public showroom just wondering about an update cause id love to come in and see your fish in person
If you can get the Frontosa breading - Now that's a Good Shout Joe. As we all know Frontosa are so hard to bread. That's the Challenge were giving you. Frontosa are harder to bread than discuss. Arguably one of the hardest in the hobby, they dont reach sexual maturity until 3 or 4 years. LETS GO...!!!!
HOOOO did I see a smile, 2d video on the breeding subject...is the breeding virus coming back? Sorry man, you can not fight it...welcome back! This is so cool... and through breeding, fish inter-action, fish color and fish behavior are at the best.
I've lost a snake about 3 time's at my mom's and I couldn't say anything, because she would have freaked out. It was gone for almost 3 weeks the last time.
I am quite happy to live in a former theater. One of the first things we decided to do was to convert one of the old show rooms into a fish room. I don't think I will run out of space for my tanks anytime soon. Heheh. As for the vanishing fish....... I hate it when that happens. I remember one day when I was still a child I got the most beautiful little catfish. It was super fascinating and I really loved it. When I turned the tank lights on the next day it was nowhere to be seen. That fish had completely vanished. We searched for it and the tank was cleaned multiple times in the next few years. It should be noted that we did put the same materials, hardscape and most plants back in every time though. Anyways, one day, years after it had vanished, the fish was back...... unfortunately drifting dead at the surface...... I can only imagine that it hid somewhere in the hardscape all that time though I never figured out where. Nowadays I am much more experienced than back then and I have to admit that getting this type of catfish again........ it would be great. I have looked for it in the internet in order to properly identify it but...... no luck so far. Oh well, maybe one day I will find one again. Heheh.
You could try removing the sunshine pleco only from the 2k tank and see what happens with the next batch of eggs. If they disappear again make it an only Uaru tank!
Please build a bigger fish room, you do wonders with what you have, I can only imagine what you can do on a larger scale. We got a glimpse at a larger building,(obviously not your fault that failed), really looking forward to what your doing 2022
I think most of the fish in the 2000 will Target the eggs or fry. I gave some angels and rainbows away. As soon as they got in a new tank the angels started to breed. But the rainbows went after the eggs.
Uhhhhmmmmmmm, Didn't see that ending coming!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR JOEY and TAMARA, and KIDS! JOEY, Not to be a downer, but don't you remember what happened when you built the gallery? Take it slowly and think ahead man. BUT, ALSO NOT A BAD IDEA! Somehow knowing how you do things well ahead of when you post the videos... how big is the design of the building? Ohhh man, I can't believe I'm cheering you on for this, but yeah, I kind of agree it's time. How much of the building is already built? And where? Keep Safe Always, Matt - Toronto, Canada
Yet another awesome video by King of DIY team Joey and Tamara keep up the great work love all videos you make I myself lost a blue crayfish out of my tank I was able to find him roaming around the living room after I got home from work for the first two times on the third time it happened to this day I still can't find him I flipped to coaches around looked under and behind all furniture don't know where he is sucks that it happened but not much you can do big big fan all the best for 2022
Honestly sometimes i forget that i have been subbed since 2017 and every time he tells a story that happened back then i feel like where did the time go
I had my current yellow coris wrasse disappear for two seperate 6 week periods. It is crazy. I have had catfish (raphael cats) disappear for months to the point where I mark them in my records as dead. They usually pop up if they are species that are not usually active.
I have a spare 15 gallon tank with guppies. I just keep them there to keep my filter media cycled. And often a good amount of guppies just disappeared. And now, all of them just disappeared, eventually the babies too. I'm assuming a lizard ate them. There is a pretty large hole hole and I dont really go near that aquarium so thats my best guess for now.
Oh shit, Joey out here dropping hints. 🤔🤔🤔 wonder what’s next on the agenda. Will say you have been giving me lots of inspiration to get back into breeding myself. And now my African cichlids are breeding like crazy and I’m running out of space for tanks. lol just remember keep yourself happy and do what you find more pleasing. Would be nice to see another 2000 somewhere down the road!!!
Wait so just because I am confused and curious, why did you put the convict in with the flowerhorn? I trust that you know what you are doing, but to me it doesn’t sound like it could work. I don’t know a lot about flowerhorns, but I have seen that they are bred to be aggressive, for that reason I always assumed it is not possible to keep anything in the same tank as them. Ik it can be done, but it seems risky too me regardless
Have you thought of some bigger gravel for the Uaru to nest in. The eggs fall between the gaps in the gravel and it makes it harder for the other fish to eat them.
Hello Joey, my name is Sergio and I’m on the process of building a fish room.. I alway wanted to get some shrimp but always thought they where a whole different world.. But when you pulled out that shrimp out of that 2k I doubt all that water is RO//DI and remineralized.. how you do it?? And will they breed?? Can you give me some tips.. do you happen to have a email??
Joey, Your tanks look amazing🥰 I totally love the natural looking subscaping you inspire me to rearrange my tanks They look fabulous totally love the 2000 You have a Arawana they are my favourite ♥️ but can’t keep them as illegal here Glad 🙂 you found your missing Convict Look forward to your next video Really inspirational Thank You 😊 Huge hello from Australia Nat 🐠
You need a bigger building I think lol. I love seeing all the fish have babies. I'm happy to have some off you but I am in the 🇬🇧 UK. But I'll have them 🤣🤣
Hey Joey, I've been meaning to ask for months now. That Fahaka with the Oscars, that's working out well from what I can see, but I've heard over and over that would be huge no no. I have one that still small (about 7") living with some tiger barbs and Siamese algae eaters, so far so good. Is that a calculated risk for you, or is this something that has been overblown and housing a Fahaka with other larger fish is not really that big of a deal? Curious to see why you did that, and if your pufferfish has a known "nice" temperament or if it's not that hard to keep fahakas with other fish it's size. The Oscars look great with the puffer.
Great video 🙂 My fascination with keeping fish is breeding them, I regularly run into the issue of no more room and that’s with 20 tanks! 🤯 I’ve had to reign myself in and only keep fry in smaller batches, especially when to make the fry saleable they need to be grown on for six months or more, I recently posted a video on your DIY Facebook page where I’d gone overboard with one type and now I’m overrun 😬 I love your gallery but admit that if you had the space to breed too it would blow my tiny mind 😁 please say you’re going to build a breeding/nursery room too 🤩
“Or I just build a bigger building”
That smile at the end when the video cuts is great.
That's the plan
Joey obviously takes the fish keeping addiction to the next level.
He's MTS+, its now Multiple Gallery Syndrome.
Or his lawsuit has settle and now ready to start public gallery 2.0. Fired Up!!!
He’s the king of DIY am I right? If you can’t find a place then build a place
Hey Joey,
What I’ve learned from keeping convicts is that one reason why the male may be chasing the female is because he is ready to breed again, but since the fry are in the tank, the female is less likely to be willing to cooperate. Which will cause the male to react aggressively. The second issue may be that the male sees the female as a threat to the fry. Lastly, what I could think of is that the bond between the mates has broken and the male is just being territorial against an intruder.
"He's a good father, just not a good husband." I'd like to introduce a whole new species to y'all, I call it the Trailer Park Cichlid! 😆

If you do make a mega gallery you could call it “The Showroom”
I vote for "The Showroom"
Or The Aquarium Museum?
I was going to mention if anyone remembered when the stingray got lost behind the background but he mentioned it lol
That look at the end said it all Joey. Congrats!!!🍾
He's a great father but a bad husband.... I feel personally attacked.... LMFAO!

Hey man you should start doing videos all about one breed of fish at a time. Explaining all about it. We as fish keepers like that kind of stuff.
that smile at the end is VERY suggestive hahaha
btw that pleco is definitely able to eat the Uaru eggs.
Joey,
I need you to refresh my memory. What is the name of the powder you used to removed hard water stains on aquariums?
I love your closing comment. Sounds like a plan to me.
Happy new year to the both of you
Would love to see you keep Hill Trout or Flagfish. Both are beautiful fish. Love the videos and excited to see your future plans for the gallery!
I've had two white clouds jump ship; they just disappear when they jump out. My Beta is also a jumper but you expect that out of a Beta.
I would kill for those Frontosa. They are stunning!
HOOOO did I see a smile, 2d video on the breeding subject...is the breeding virus coming back? Sorry man, you can not fight it...welcome back! This is so cool... and through breeding, fish inter-action, fish color and fish behavior are at the best.
I once lost my cat for two days in an apartment. Sneaky pets being sneaky.
I've lost a snake about 3 time's at my mom's and I couldn't say anything, because she would have freaked out.
It was gone for almost 3 weeks the last time.
"Or I just build a bigger building..." Bro we know you can't go bigger, you built as big as the council in your area will allow so...
Heheh.
Joey, your teases are something else. Keep it up.
Oh no, it’s always scary when you can’t see your fish. I hope you find them soon
Thanks for the heart, Joey.
You could try removing the sunshine pleco only from the 2k tank and see what happens with the next batch of eggs. If they disappear again make it an only Uaru tank!
its such a beautiful active tank though, why ruin it just to breed one set of fish?
Hey Joey, where do you get your shells for the shell dwellers? I’m in southern Ontario and can’t find them at all.
Let them grow bro!
Put some terracotta plates around for them to lay on and then remove the plates.
Please build a bigger fish room, you do wonders with what you have, I can only imagine what you can do on a larger scale. We got a glimpse at a larger building,(obviously not your fault that failed), really looking forward to what your doing 2022
The day he lost the stingray that one time I’ve been waiting for a video on this. Just glad it didn’t start with “It bit it’s head off”
Please keep the 2000G aquarium as a community tank. It's really nice the way it is.
The deep green on those shells is beautiful.
Yes Joey a bigger building is the best idea lol. But I would have to say I would be very interested in fish breeding diy
I think most of the fish in the 2000 will Target the eggs or fry. I gave some angels and rainbows away. As soon as they got in a new tank the angels started to breed. But the rainbows went after the eggs.
Build a bigger building joey love your work and all your vids
Uhhhhmmmmmmm, Didn't see that ending coming!!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR JOEY and TAMARA, and KIDS!
JOEY,
Not to be a downer, but don't you remember what happened when you built the gallery? Take it slowly and think ahead man. BUT, ALSO NOT A BAD IDEA!
Somehow knowing how you do things well ahead of when you post the videos... how big is the design of the building? Ohhh man, I can't believe I'm cheering you on for this, but yeah, I kind of agree it's time.
How much of the building is already built? And where?
Keep Safe Always,
Matt - Toronto, Canada
Yet another awesome video by King of DIY team Joey and Tamara keep up the great work love all videos you make I myself lost a blue crayfish out of my tank I was able to find him roaming around the living room after I got home from work for the first two times on the third time it happened to this day I still can't find him I flipped to coaches around looked under and behind all furniture don't know where he is sucks that it happened but not much you can do big big fan all the best for 2022
Honestly sometimes i forget that i have been subbed since 2017 and every time he tells a story that happened back then i feel like where did the time go
It’s so funny, I get so stressed when I can’t find my fish, eventually when I find them I feel so relieved😅
Lol
I had my current yellow coris wrasse disappear for two seperate 6 week periods. It is crazy. I have had catfish (raphael cats) disappear for months to the point where I mark them in my records as dead. They usually pop up if they are species that are not usually active.
A bigger building with more fish would be great. But not a building like that nasty one that stole all your savings though.
Fair point. Joey explained he may have just been jealous)
My favorite aquarium hands down the other ones are awesome but this one is special. Stunning
Just remember if you do get back in to breeding how much work it is but whatever you do I will enjoy and probably learn something new as well
Have you thought of some bigger gravel for the Uaru to nest in.
Joey,
Your tanks look amazing🥰
I totally love the natural looking subscaping you inspire me to rearrange my tanks
They look fabulous totally love the 2000
You have a Arawana they are my favourite ♥️
but can’t keep them as illegal here
Glad 🙂 you found your missing Convict
Look forward to your next video
Really inspirational
Thank You 😊
Huge hello from Australia
Nat 🐠
Woah im early... sorry to hear about the fish! Also recently lost one of my favourites myself
Lmao im starting to think i misread title as i watch the video 😅
@@josh0011-z4w Titled it after the first thing i said in the video haha
The tanks look soooo beautiful 🤩😍, the fish look so fantastic.
“Or build a bigger building”
I’m thinking your lawsuit has settled and looking for “Public Gallery 2.0”
Fired Up!!!!
Pleco will absolutely vacuum in any and every egg available.
You need a bigger building I think lol. I love seeing all the fish have babies. I'm happy to have some off you but I am in the 🇬🇧 UK. But I'll have them 🤣🤣
I think you should try just moving the sunshine pleco to the arowana or stingray tank. I love me some plecos.
Yea I've had some fish that have disappeared. Like I had 4 black neons now I have 2, I just don't pay much attention and lose how many I have
I have a rhino pleco with my oscars that 1000% eats the eggs they lay. Years and years of breeding action and never saw any eggs.
Joey don't hesitate, MOVE THE FISH!
Great video 🙂
My fascination with keeping fish is breeding them, I regularly run into the issue of no more room and that’s with 20 tanks! 🤯 I’ve had to reign myself in and only keep fry in smaller batches, especially when to make the fry saleable they need to be grown on for six months or more, I recently posted a video on your DIY Facebook page where I’d gone overboard with one type and now I’m overrun 😬 I love your gallery but admit that if you had the space to breed too it would blow my tiny mind 😁
please say you’re going to build a breeding/nursery room too 🤩
