CORRECTION: I wanted to dive deeper into why we float easier in salt than in fresh, but got sidetracked with talking surface tension and air bubbles and never went back to floating. Surface tension does not contribute to floating but rather how SG relates to it, which is what i was getting to but that is the nature of free styling videos. At times, when its off the top of your head, its easy to lose track of the direction you were going. Either way, floating in saltwater doesn't have anything to do with this video, but rather just something interesting.
Thanks for making the correction! Floating in saltwater has to do with saltwater being more dense than freshwater, thus making you more buoyant. In places like the Dead Sea, you're even more buoyant because the sea is super saturated with salts, which increases the density of the water.
He really has no idea about reefs. When he last had a reef literally a lot of the comments said he couldn’t put certain fish in there because they will eat them. He glosses over it.
@@TB-fz6jh well i do get you point. But in his defense i even kept puffers with shrimp and they got along fine. I hoped he would do a colourful tank with coral and reefsafe fish and a tank with cat sharks. I do love the freshwater hobby but i prefer salt…
The Frontosa Tanks are an Absolute Great asset and Addition to the Gallery Joe !!! Dont ever break them down and get rid of them 👍 We love them and theres a MASSIVE following of Frontosa in the Hobby - you'll be surprised how big the Frontosa following is within the hobby. Your doing Great with them 👊👊👌👌
Such a good video! I ran a 75 gallon saltwater “freshwater” tank just like this for 10 years. I love the look of freshwater tanks but just couldn’t get over the look of those colorful saltwater fish. Great job Joey!
This was a great video to watch. This is why I watch to grow in the hobby. Thank you for all the info as we grow into the aquarium keepers we want to be. You have helped many of us over the years. Thank You, keep them coming!!
Very interesting. If this vid had been a straight up how to make a saltwater aquarium, I probably wouldn't have been interested. However, the way you did it lured me in, and I enjoyed it. It makes having a saltwater aquarium seem easy, still I'm sure I won't do it. I'll leave that to my brother who loves them.
I love it! I love salt water fish but I don't like the look of the aquariums, really don't like the blue lighting and what not. So this tank really ticks all of my boxes, thank you so much!
So glad you made this video... I'm thinking of starting a small saltwater tank but was worried I needed special lights for the fish and special filters and stuff.. guess all I really need is a protein skimmer as I plan to do fish only until I understand the saltwater life better and can make sure fish survive first
I actually dig that a lot! Who says you can’t put salt water fish in a freshwater set up, it looks awesome to me, the ocean has a lot of regular rocks too it’s not just coral
This is a great idea for a salt water tank! I've always loved the look of saltwater fish but not a fan of usual decor and corals of a salt water tank. Doing a tank like this just might get me into saltwater! Thanks Joey, love your creativity and doing things out of the norm.
Yes, this video has made me feel more comfortable with the idea of a fish-only saltwater system! I have a 75g sitting empty in my garage right now. I can see it full of chromis and/or other small colorful species. I think I have my new 2022 project now!
All of your aquariums are just stunning! I did keep a 150 gallon reef tank, that originally was freshwater, then brackish. Naturally, I went full salt! Lol!
Hi Joey I love this video. You show how easy it is to do a salt water tank . Maybe some day I have one I do have a 65 gal tank empty maybe that will be my next project. Thank you again for making videos like this…
Yes I have thought about turning 1 of my 75 gallon tanks to salt water and was on the fence cuz all the equipment some people say you need but you proved them wrong. Very helpful video like all of yours are. keep them up
Awesome vid as always man! For the channels sake you gotta do a coral tank with a ton of variety where you start from the smallest possible and can track the growth for years to come. Would be so sick!!! The Secret Coral Garden with an archway in the middle!
Great video! You do such a good job being informative and entertaining at the same time. I follow a few fish keepers on UA-cam. You are the best. But I’m very lucky to have two of them moving 10 minutes from my house. PF and SB.
I’ve got a ton of freshwater tanks, been debating about starting a salt water but I want the coral and the whole bit…but on the other hand, a puffer like Kevin is super cool…
thank you this was very helpful. I have my beloved discus in a planted tank and I'm going to try my first salt water. I love both. Salt water is very intimidating, but the way you explain it makes me feel more confident to go for it.
I’m not the biggest fan of this setup even though I love the fish. But the hobby is about what you like. If you like that tank then you rock it brother!
I have been keeping freshwater fish for 8 year now and have always wanted salt water ( it’s actually the reason I got into fish ) but didn’t think it was as easy and was confused but this video definitely showed me it’s not as difficult as I thought
I watch every video hoping for an update on Kevin! I don't keep freshwater but recently started a reef tank and always hope to see you do more in that realm! Kevin looks like so much fun I might have to consider a FOWLER system in the future so I can try out a puffer, too
How well you float in water, fresh or salt, isn’t about surface tension, but has to do with the density of the water and displacement. Still love all the content regardless!
Thank You for the marine aquarium update (more often please :) ). The combination of freshwater and saltwater styles is new to me, and to be honest it’s hard to judge whether I like it or not. I like that fish are very active, but I’m concerned about the „movements” of the Zebrosoma flavescens. I had the impression that she was rubbing against the rocks. But I’m probably wrong. Anyway, I envy such fantastic tanks!!!
It actually looks like a sea wall or a canal wall in Florida. Plus, sometimes the same types can be seen when feeding from boat docks too. Really nice and different.
I like the idea of saltwater fish in a freshwater environment. It makes the fish stand out more and makes it look like the tank is more focused on the fish than the scape.
Great work I'd love to go salty 😆 only thing scaring me is doing the water changes and knowing that water levels are good now if it only takes it to have a protein filter I think might give it a shot love the look of salt water fish in a fresh water environment good work 🍻
Great video, really interesting definitely made me feel better about salt, big time. Would love to see a large full on coral reef tank with all the wavy colours again one day 😍. Perhaps separate to this, it would make a really informative comparison of upkeep? Keep it up!!
If it works for you it works for you and it does so perfect personaly i dont like the freshwater look rather see the blue lights and coral rocks but to each its own right love your vids and pods keep up the good work 👌🏼
Great video again!! I love the knowledge!! Can you do a video on the difference between soft water and hard water dealing with alkalinity and being able to colonize bacteria and buffer pH and kh?
Point taken on the ease of keeping marine fish but this tank looks weird & washed out and the fish out of place. I much prefer the original saltwater set up Joey
When Joey said at the end that saltwater fish have less personality than freshwater fish part of me died a little 😭 After starting salt I spend most of my time watching my single reef tank versus 10+ planted tanks! The fish have so many more varied behaviors
A reef tank is way more interesting than a fresh water tank, don’t get me wrong, fresh water are still pretty but marine fish have way more personality. Had the protein problem on my 29-gal... so I added a add-on protein skimmer to the inlet of my AquaClear-50. Had to adjust the suction ever so-often--via a small twist [by hand] of the shaft rising up the center of it--but it worked wonderfully. =;)

Joey, how big would you estimate Kevin is?
Are there any plants that can root in salt water that dont grow into giant trees (mangroves)?
Have you considered macroalges for a sump or even inside the tank?
~~And takes longer to drown as well.
I hope that one day you will keep (coral) catsharks again… A coral garden would be cool to. Nice to see that you show that saltwater is easy to keep!

Lo and behold 2 months later and he has set up a baby shark tank again.
That salt water tank looks so clean and the fish are so active - it just works :) Great info and another great idea - thanks Joey! :)
Brilliant video. You've taken the fear out of going saltwater for me after years of wanting to but sticking to freshwater.
What I like about this tank is that it’s multiple species together. reminds me more of my own tank. Just more colourful and bigger
The Frontosa Tanks are an Absolute Great asset and Addition to the Gallery Joe !!! Dont ever break them down and get rid of them 👍
We love them and theres a MASSIVE following of Frontosa in the Hobby - you'll be surprised how big the Frontosa following is within the hobby. Your doing Great with them 👊👊👌👌
Why isn't anyone talking about Kevin relieving himself 3:25 into the video. Right in front of Joey's face?!
Kevin does give a shit about Joey🤣
I was looking through the comments for that 🤣And the other fishes are like YAY! food 🤣🤣🤣
And the associates go for it, thinking it was a food 🤣.
Kevin likes his fire sauce with his taco-bell Cx
The other fish think Yay food! Hahaha its funny 😂
Getting my first predator fish next week as you have inspired me so much man.
Good luck!!
Love to see you nerd out about these things! You seem super happy talking about it! Keep the nerdy stuff coming! I’m loving it
I love Kevin. My daughter kept a puffer fish for several years.
I love how your salt water tank looks like a fresh water tank I’ve never seen that much luv
Such a good video! I ran a 75 gallon saltwater “freshwater” tank just like this for 10 years. I love the look of freshwater tanks but just couldn’t get over the look of those colorful saltwater fish. Great job Joey!
The salt water tank looks great man..!! Especially with the Aquadecour background. Aquadecour interior make ANY Tank look Awsome. FACTS..!!!!!!!
This was a great video to watch. This is why I watch to grow in the hobby. Thank you for all the info as we grow into the aquarium keepers we want to be. You have helped many of us over the years. Thank You, keep them coming!!

Was gonna sleep as I hav exams in the morning but Joey uploaded 😂
You are from Europe like me ?
I love it! I love salt water fish but I don't like the look of the aquariums, really don't like the blue lighting and what not. So this tank really ticks all of my boxes, thank you so much!
I really like seeing saltwater fish in a tank thats not being blasted with blue light.
You can mix blue and white, so you get both colors on coral and fish..
We did several fish only tanks at the public aquarium where I worked, and they were my favorite.
i really like this and true this is a very good stepping stone into saltwater for freshwater fishkeepers looks amazing and still doable
This is a great idea for a salt water tank! I've always loved the look of saltwater fish but not a fan of usual decor and corals of a salt water tank. Doing a tank like this just might get me into saltwater! Thanks Joey, love your creativity and doing things out of the norm.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking immediately too. Wonder where that thought came from, surface tension? That makes no sense at all.
Kevin and Associates is our favorite. Tempting us to get back in saltwater again.
If it weren't for wanting coral, I'd totally do this, it's cool to see colorful fish in such a simple background
I liked the video. Fish only SW in a freshwater environment. Best of both worlds
Great video! It gives me courage to try a saltwater tank.
Make a video explaining the difference between your saltwater puffer and your fresh water puffer..personality, diet, etc
Would love for you to do more saltwater. I'm new to saltwater and having the hardest time!

I love the tank. It's like they are swimming in fresh water. Amazing 😀
Thanks for the update!

Can we have an update on the Tanganyikan Tanks Joe ?? 😀😀👊
Love the saltwater videos

Great video, looks much better than dead corals.

I like it I just like different great job I’m going to do a saltwater tank
The comedic timing of “he will bite me” was absolutely perfect
Chillout Kevin🤣👍🔥🇨🇦
amazing video!
Can you pls make a video on setting up overflow sump :)
When Joey said at the end that saltwater fish have less personality than freshwater fish part of me died a little 😭 After starting salt I spend most of my time watching my single reef tank versus 10+ planted tanks! The fish have so many more varied behaviors

I have been wanting to try salt water for ever but to scared to. I have a spare 2 x 1 x 2 tank and fluval canister filter I now might try it was a small clown fish.
Anything else I may need to know?
I like how you were talking about nutrient export RIGHT as Kevin did a big poop. lol
and then the others ate it. like i was saying... nutrient export
just a perfect video
Had the protein problem on my 29-gal... so I added a add-on protein skimmer to the inlet of my AquaClear-50. Had to adjust the suction ever so-often--via a small twist [by hand] of the shaft rising up the center of it--but it worked wonderfully. =;)
Finally we get an update on the salt water fish
Need some more salt water content!
“And we just gaze into each other’s eyes”. 😂😂😂😂
Great video bro..

Btw, according to Father Fish, deep substrate (3 or more inches) was originally pioneered for saltwater, and works much the same as fresh. I don't have salt water tanks myself.
3:24 Kevin poops and all the other fish think food just got dropped in the tank 😂
I saw on amazon they make attachments to the intake of sumps and make a skimmer head for the intake so it skims and filters (( normal 6-12 inch long, 1 inch thick with a right angle tube leading to the surface with an adjustable skim head (( looks like an 2.5 wide wide mini umbrella the when set to the the lowest setting seal to a cup supporting the top
Your making me think about setting up a tank like this now
Love it, I did the same with just 2 hobs. Looked like fresh water if yu didn’t know about fish.
There are small internal freshwater protein skimmers. They function very differently though. These act like an overflow and skim the top millimeter of the tank pulling all the protein down into a sponge. It's slow, it's loud, and it clogs easy but hey it's something. Problem is they are cheaply made so they don't use the right kind of pump it's a water pump not water and air so every time you use it, it's slowly destroying itself as to use it as intended air will go into the pump. If you submerge it deeper to avoid this it basically becomes a regular filter. It no longer skims. So there are MASSIVE trade offs. Though as the King of DIY I'm fairly certain you could come up with a DIY version using the correct type of pump.
I transitioned from fresh water to salt and have never looked back I find it’s way easier to take care of then my fresh water tanks where
Brilliant! Kevin is great, proper puppy dog. Keep it simple stupid. Wonderful set up.
Is deep gravel still beneficial in saltwater setup like in freshwater setup?
I’ve always stayed away from salt water aquariums bc they are more expensive and intimidating but I think I might go for it. After I do my research ofc.
Thank you.
haha kevin shat the tank as soon as you told him to chill out 😂
Not sure if the tank has changed any or maybe the lighting or whatever but I like this tank more now then I did when I first saw it months back
Joey, bro Kevin is a jerk. He had the nerve to ruin your video by pooping when you had your back turned to him. I went back and watched it a few times and laughed. Hahaha.
