I personally did the 1st final drive lube change at around 2000 miles. Apparently the dealer never did that and you wouldn't believe the metallic gray oobleck that came out. Apparently those freshly machined parts don't like each other very much. I replaced it with Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 and drained it again at 10K. This time it drained as clear as new oil, so I'd say that the 1st gear lube change is CRITICAL to the longevity of the unit, AND cheap insurance. Guess who does my routine maintenance now?
Yeah that's about right. Dark gray is common for a rear differential which the bevel box is. Just make sure it doesn't have metal shavings or large bits of metal in it.
Make sure the owner lets you cold start it. Check tires for wear or rot, check for oil leaks along the bottom and the rear diff. Its a big bike so look for scratches on the edge of controls foot and hand which means its been dropped.
@@mikehuge577 ive ridden both and the indians are fun. I just like having the power a rocket has. I also have some indian reviews for some older ones in one of my playlists
That's why I'm drawn to the rocket power. I was working in Vietnam for 6 months I bought a 250 Honda it was fun. This bike will be like having warp speed. I was going to send you a photo but I guess UA-cam won't let you do that lol
Thank you for your time that it took to put this together for us. Very helpful!
Great video, thanks for the effort put in making it. Much appreciated
I'm glad its helpful!

Thanks for that. I do wish you would show greasing the shaft. I need to check mine.
I usually do it every time i pull the rear tire off.
Thanks man much appreciated
Glad I could help
What color is the used oil? Yesterday I go to change my oil on my Rocket 3, 2010. It’s looking like dark graphite and it was, very viscous.
