I like how he goes in depth trying to make this non-scary game sound creepy and actually sortof succeeds.
At least it's a lot creepier than the sequel.

Great video James! I loved Luigis mansion when it first came out, my cousin got the Gamecube and some games and that and Monkeyball were my first experiences on the console. Loved the secrets in this one, keep up the good work! Cheers

The so called "hanging shadow" graphics glitch was actually explained a long time ago.
This lighting glitch occurs because the location of the shadow when the lightning strikes is determined by the location of the camera, putting the shadow to the upper right of Luigi's location. While the camera is as it is in most parts of the game, positioned above Luigi, the shadow appears on the floor.
However, as you may have noticed with all three levitating shadows, the camera being placed directly in front of Luigi causes the shadow to be cast above the ground (as it is still programed to be both above and to the right of Luigi).
Very very cool. I never noticed the 'hanging shadow' before, to be truthful... of course I played this as my very first 'Cube game and have only recently started replaying it. Awesome vid!
Sometimes I watch these Easter Egg Hunter videos just to listen to this guys great accent and the emotion in the voice.
For some reason, the Butler ghost with the candles scared the shit out of me when I was younger

Love the Luigi's Mansion version of Totaka's song. Easily the best out there.
You mention the used funky version of the Totaka's Song in the game, but you forgot the unused piano version of the same song in the game files.
Luigi's Mansion is actually a very cool game.

i have played it, but i couldnt get through the 2th stage without a walkthrough. seriously, that game sucks. it's not even scary and also most of the time you would be just walking around finding something from the tasks on the touch screen. also when you have to do a task usually there arent even any ghosts except when you are doing what the task says. the moments where the game is actually kinda hilarious is when the intro starts and when you start a level e gadd tells some stuff to luigi and he gets scared :p overall i would give it a 2.5/5

There were also a lot of references in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Professor Gadd owned a coffee shop and he showed up to give you a new badge every time you unlocked a new drink. I imagine there are also some references in the sequels, but I haven't played them.
The only reason I think the Shadow is real is because in the other moments you can see Luigi's shadow moving as he's moving, but in that particular one, the shadow stays put and it's not in the same position as Luigi's standing.
I thought that too, but look how he's positioned.
What you probably see as Luigi's hand is actually the hose of the vacuum.
The shadow doesn't move much because Luigi doesn't move much in that scene- the other times, Luigi's moving too.
In short, I say it's the creepiest glitch I've yet seen.
Man, I had plenty of good times with this game as a kid. The Gamecube was my first console and I still love replaying the game when I want to play something that's fun and creepy at the same time (especially with the lights off). When I got the tent ending the first time I played through the game, it was hilarious
I do kinda miss the old intro/outro music. And the piano that plays during the video too. So nostalgic.
In Mario Sunshine, Bowser Jr's Paintbrush has E.Gadd's logo on it.
My thought as well during that part. Bowser Jr. even said he got his magic brush from an old man in a white coat, to which then the Flash Liquidizer Ultra Dousing Device seems to know exactly who he's talking about.

I admit, I know its only like a Boos mansion, but being honest, the game does a good job at making a creepy atmosphere, especially with the baby etc. Though I never understood the Luigi hanging, of course its a lighting glitch, the shadow doesnt even look like hes hanging.

Yes, this has been researched thoroughly and the conclusions all come to say that the hanging Luigi is in fact, a glitch.

What I belive is that the actuall charecter is just standing and only the animation plays and when the camera pans up to see Luigi better the lightning flashes from the camera posistion thus showing him just standing but below a beam.

Well, I would brush off the hanged Luigi shadow... but his arms aren't in the position they are supposed to be when gripping the phone, they're hanging by his side... limp. Its probably left over from the much darker beta. Also those "2 other shadows like this" don't really look the same.
one of the "arms" is the vacuum tube.
The music in this game is by far the best vg music.

How havent i seen this video yet? bloody YT. This game looks ace, ive only just started collecting for the GC and this is on my list to pick up. I want that version of Totaka's Song as my ringtone. 5* video as usual mate.
Oh and when fludd scans Mario, The code that scans on the right is a backwards message of a list of the super Mario franchise games (including the spinoffs)

markusjahr Glitch or no glitch, it's pretty spooky. Plus, I think Nintendo was going for a more "goofy huanted house" than a "5 nights at Weegee's" kind of thing.

Maybe the Rank D house is the Canon Ending. I don't think Luigi was ever a treasure hunter. Or it's just cuz most people got in the first game.
Also, this game obviously was meant to be actually terrifying, so those scary menus just prove it more, and if it was actually, that could be a pretty chilling message.

I think one of the creepy aspects of the shadow one is that the shadow that is casted does not match up to Luigi's posture in the game.
I just realized something for the first time... on the tittle screen the eyes match those of the sky trees in super mario galaxy 2! They also match the eyes of the ghost at the end of the haunted mansions in super mario 3d world! Please tell me if you agree or not.
I'm sorry but from ghost children staring down at Mario in shiverburn galaxy, to Sonic CD demonic imagery and audio, to song of healing in reverse... I take it as the gaming companies doing whatever they want without going overboard

Technically the shadow isn't an eater egg, it's a glitch. When Luigi picks up the phone the camera goes slightly down, along with the lighting so it casts his shadow higher on the wall
