Just gonna say, the engine in a helicopter runs at a constant RPM, it's not really being throttled up and down during flight, so Im not sure why turbo lag is a concern. But yes turbo's do create lots of extra heat with the engine's intake air.

I'm turbocharging a helicopter. If designed well, you can reduce lag or eliminate it. But a turbos speed will fluctuate according to load and how much boost it makes or is demanded, not just rpm. If you are at altitude and you put the helicopter into a state of low load and the turbo drops off boost, you will have less atmosphere and less NA exhaust gas to spool it up. A smaller turbo spools quicker, but you also do not want boost to come on very hard. Not impossible, but it can be difficult to make a turbo boost smoothly. There are a lot of variables.

5:07 He tells us that this new engine upgrade comes with a "fan installed, to blow cool air towards the cylinders" 😆😆🤣🤦🏻‍♂️
I don't seem to understand the point of that installation, since the entire engine is exposed, and while flying, you get air blown throughout the entire engine, so you naturally get instant cooling that way!! I don't know, maybe it's meant for when the helicopter is turned on and is trimmed up for the flight so that may be explaining this logically, but still...i don't see a purpose to that fan lmao!!!

He does state the extra cooling is for when the helicopter is in a hover. For the most part, the air around the engine will be quite stagnant.

If the 914 has turbo lag, weld the crank on a $14,000 new 80 hp and put a super charger on the front.
    < 8 lbs. < $6,000. No lag. No inner-cooler. Min 125 hp. Simple!

Edge performance can increase the power of the 912 to around 155hp-165hp, with built internals, bigger bore, EFI and new turbo, manifolds etc. Its called Ep912sti.

@@Lcr34 I'm aware of Edge's engines. This little copter needs => 120 hp. Using a hot rod 912 of some sort, they need a fan + radiator to cooling cylinders. An R-22 has a huge squirrel cage fan on the back. Why not use a standard 6 cylinder D-Motor? It's 100% water cooled, approx. same weight, low rpm, EFI, compact.

Why don’t you use a UL Power engine instead ?

Reputation, lack of history, service locations, RPMs, no air flow, mass (not weight) bulk, ugly-ass engine...........Shall I continue?
