What a fantastic concert. One of the best bands ever. I listen to a lot of music with my buddies, but they are all big fans of Todd Rundgren. We often play his records, especially in the Utopia era. What strikes me is that many Todd Rundgren fans also love another great in music: Frank Zappa, as well as Little feet (with Lowel George)! Look also Todd Rungren's UA-cam film with the great Dutch Metropool Orchestra. When I listen to Todd Rundren's brilliant music I get nostalgic for the 70's again!
You guys have me beat by a year. In ‘78 Todd did his Back to the Bars tour backed by Utopia for a double set at the Bayou in Georgetown (Wash DC). A buddy suggested we go see the Hello It’s Me guy. Not yet 18, I borrowed my college roommate’s ID to get in. Our minds were S-O-O blown away by the early set that we bought tix from a scalper and turned around and caught the second set.

Totally. I think "Open My Eyes" on that first Nazz album is criminally underrated and overlooked as standout psychedelic rock - and there are some good tracks on the rest of it as well. I think he was 18 when he joined The Nazz and 20 when he left for a solo career. A Wizard, A True Star, indeed! Cheers.
They take a backseat to Vanilla Fudge in that department hands down. All four of the Fudge could play, sing, write and arrange. Such an interesting sonic fusion of First AND Second Generation prog rock, arena rock, power pop, new wave, and even metal influences. That synth line is ethereal. Todd Rundgren man, a truly overlooked genius of the past 50 years.
I believe I saw this tour in Buffalo NY they opened for Peter Frampton at one of the stadium shows. They were phenomenal. Had the pleasure of meeting Kasim Sultan at one of his shows in 2020. Great guy very friendly & such a great bassist & singer. Myself being a bassist bass playing & gear took up most of the conversation. If you get a chance check out Kasim playing with Yellow Matter Custard a Beatles tribute with Mike Portnoy & Paul Gilbert.

LOVE this video. I was pleasantly shocked that they played parts of Todd's solo album "A Wizard, A True Star" in this show. I saw Utopia open for The Tubes in March of 1986. IMHO Utopia blew The Tubes off the stage. Todd isn't underrated, just less exposed as a performing artist. What is amazing is how well he balanced his writing, recording and performing solo and with Utopia with his work on all of the other bands he produced albums for such as Meat Loaf's "Bat Out of Hell". Thanks for posting.

Utopia and other prog bands really did it for me. Todd was so cool. So happy to have seen them a few times.
Thank you bunches! ♥♥♥
Saw this show live at homecoming in college, along with Oops pyramid set. Totally awesome. Nothing like it today.
Thank you for this. Must come back to see more.....
...this group is so awesome ! Thx for sharing this ! ))))::::::::::
Love Kasim too
Such an interesting sonic fusion of First AND Second Generation prog rock, arena rock, power pop, new wave, and even metal influences. That synth line is ethereal. Todd Rundgren man, a truly overlooked genius of the past 50 years.
This band was so cohesive. Was a point where you could tell where one stopped and the other started. Loved this part of Todd.
There are those of us that get it and others that don't.
true words
Just like real life.
Such great musicianship.
I wish they kept The Verb "To Love" on the setlist in later shows. Such a great song.
How the fuck did they get through ''Sunburst Finish'' ? Just watching them multi-task that thing is making my brain hurt !
I remember! This is my all time favourite year! "Communion with the sun/Son" whatever, all good!
Wonderful, thank u so much for uploading
Wish I had seen this show....amazing!!!
Fantastic.
Two years ago I made a couple of comments.
If that were me at this show I'd had been screaming my ass off!
I did see Utopia in'77 in Buffalo.
What an era
THE RA TOUR WAS FUCKING AWESOME...FUCKING AWESOME(WE GOT THE PYRAMID AND EVERYTHING IN MARCH 77 MASONIC AUDITORIUM...AND A TASTE OF RA AT PONTIAC STADIUM WITH BOB SEGER IN JUNE 1976(LOL) ..THEY COULD REPRODUCE EVERYTHING STUDIO LIVE AND IF NOT IT STILL SOUNDED VERY VERY GOOD...THE VOCALS WERE VERY GOOD AND SO WERE THE MUSICIANS... I CRY WHEN I HEAR SUNBURST FINISH,,ITS SUCH A DEEP SONG...THE RA TOUR IN ITSELF WAS JUST SO DEEP AND INFLUENTIAL IN MY LIFE....AND I WISH HI SOLO ON SUNBURST HAD BEEN FOR ANOTHER 16 BARS...THAT SONG HAS SUCH A GREAT FINISH.....THANKS TODD FOR THE LOVE IN YOUR MUSIC...
I love this so much. Utopia, city in my head
@Frunk I sing the Utopia theme to my cat when he's hounding me to be fed (but with different lyrics...)
"Kitty in my heh-eh-eh-ED
You ate before!
M'Yowing in my bah-ah-ah-DEE
Get out of here!
Get the fuck out of my kih-ih-ih-CHEN
You ate just now!
Intooo the living room!
Don't have a cow...!"
He doesn't seem to mind if I take liberties with the rhyming...

I saw Todd open for the Who at the first concert in the (then new) Pontiac Silverdome, in Michigan, USA, IN 1975
What a great band!!
Where are the years....
godamn that bass player is killin it
Hello? R&R hall of fame? Anybody home?
I saw Todd perform Sunset blvd.@The Roxy on Sunset blvd! Mid to late 80's w/the Hello People Band! Awesome!!
Great video and have watched over and over. Utopia fan for Life!!! But just recently noticed the date is actually Jan 8th 1977, it even says it in beginning of video.
Verb to love makes me...... everytime. Such a beauty.
Jim Erwin he also produced the New York Dolls
@@kurtrebar7450 . . . and (the list is w-a-y to long)
