Revered as one of Fender’s most iconic guitar models, the Fender American Ultra Stratocaster pushes the boundaries of their most versatile instrument, providing added comfort with a “Modern D” neck profile, tapered neck heel and Fender’s Ultra Noiseless Vintage Strat pickups for enhanced tonal exploration.
We invited guitarist Isaiah Sharkey (John Mayer, D’Angelo) to check out the new Fender American Ultra Stratocaster in both Cobra Blue with maple fingerboard and the Ultraburst with rosewood fingerboard.

Keep up with Isaiah at www.isaiahsharkey.com.
I appreciate that he uses clean tones in his demo. About 85% of the music I play with clean tones. Most of the recent guitar demo's use heavy gain or crunch, with 30 seconds of clean sounds.
Agreed, same here.
Yeh, agree too.
I agree 1000000% with you! Most vids now are all gain...🙄..If you're going to demo a guitar....why use ONLY gain? Makes sense to do both.
Not too many good musicians doing product demos anymore
Clean Fender amps are so lifeless
I saw John Mayer in London last month and he wasn't even the best guitarist on stage that night 'cause guy was playing next to him. A ridiculous player.
I bet, he's superb!!! He has a new fan!!!!
i saw the same show, that's 100% false.
Been there myself. Isaiah was definitely an eye opener and David with the vocals jeez. Although John is John enough said...
well obviously it's taste but i have to agree, isiah has chops for days on mayer. mayers just a blues shredder he's pretty one dimensional in my eyes
He's great but JOHN Meyer is a living legend . Saw him playing with the dead at wriggly field. I could believe my eyes and ears. I've seen Hendrix and Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray. AndJohn Meyer well see for yourself when you can. I'm just a fan of guitar and have been playing since I was ten. Every guitarist is great in my eyes but JOHN Just has something special.
yeah this is how you play when your guitar is no longer just an instrument. it's literally just an extension of him, it sounds so natural

Sharkey is just amazing, he can make anything sound good and soulfull.
Best tonal demo I’ve heard.... I love clean tone demos... thank you
Got mine 2 weeks ago. Same color as this one. I am in LOVE!!!
Great demo. Isaiah Sharkey killed it--amazing tones!
This man just sold a lot of guitars with that wonderful demo. Beautiful clean playing with those classic Strat tones. And does anyone else feel a lot more relaxed after watching that? I know I do.😑
Oh, and the old school pedals are very cool. No expensive boutique stuff needed. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.😉
Oh, and is anyone else feeling a Twin Reverb renaissance happening? Must be a lot strong guitarists still out there.💪 At first I was thinking he was playing through one of the new Tone Master Twins, but nope - good ol’ tubes at work.👍
What a treat. Why can't other guitar demos be as low-key and classy as this one? 🙂 I've tried this same guitar a couple of times recently and it really is a beautiful instrument - the S1 thing is great for combining bridge and neck. Will probably go for the rosewood fretboard version - I have a nice maple neck from around 1980 which is just fine.
Such a great player - well done getting to demo this
And THAT is how you demo a guitar :) and because of that I now have a brand new Fender American Ultra HSS Cobra Blue w/ Rosewood ... it is awesome :)
Great playing and very nice sound from the strat. Like the fact he gave examples of different styles as he demoed each of the pick ups
Love the fact that he's play a Twin for the Demo. You rarely ever see them anymore other than the Guitar Center stores.
I want that guitar for my concert & my music videos. Stratocaster is my favorite guitar.
Love that trebley "pop" sound you get out of that one. Very cool! Nice playing too man!
I think they listened to the wrong people on this one. The truss rod adjustment was perfect on the Elite, so they didn't need to touch it, and the in series mode was great as it adds five different hum-bucking options, whereas on this 'Ultra' model, it simply adds the neck pick-up to position 1, 2 and 3, in parallel. There is the ''Performer'' model for under a grand, that does a similar thing to the Ultra in fact, so I will - without a doubt - be sticking with my Elite.. Which is played-in and is my favorite guitar. Thank you Fender!
Great examples of different pickup tones. Also helps that he's an excellent guitarist 😉 keep practicing folks, and be safe all.
His pickingstyle is SO INSPIRING!
is it just me? or does isaiah sharkey just turns to gold whatever guitar he touches.
But I must confess that Guitar has great & cool features...
Me last week: I need a new super strat.
Me now: I need an ultra strat.
Seriously that bridge and neck pick up combo has that perfect little eq notch like a wah sitting half open. Man. Heavenly, the whole sound is so nostalgic, I miss my strat, albeit a cheap knock-off one from years ago.
A player should never be without a good Strat!
@@matthewmp111 True that. Or a Tele, or a 335, hell I want a Jazzmaster and a Jaguar too... Thinking one of the latter might be a good all-rounder but God damn do I love a nice strat :/
I’ve always loved the look of the Stratocaster performer. I just bought my first one fender just the other day. It’s one of my favorite Olympic white with the 60s headstock. It’s a unique sound and look. I’m usually a Gibson Les Paul and Ibanez RG guy, but this is so versatile. The neck is fat by the headstock and thin by the the body, which I’m getting used to and I’m very happy with it
So is the neck ok for small handed person ? How do you feel about your guitar after a month?
Give this guy my Squier affinity he would still sound this awesome. Even if I get this American ultra I’m still crap.
If you practice more you will sound better too
Very nice review thanks a lot. This is how I love to have a review. Very clear tones and very detailed. Again many thanks.
Awesome guitar, awesome playing! Greetings from a huge fan from Germany!
What a fantastic musician! Thanks for a great demo, and your excellent playing.
Thank you for going over the guitar.
I just got one but didn't know what an S1 switch was. 😁
This was so helpful.
Your talent is Amazing !!!!
Magnificent instrument!
Isaiah Sharkey is a great guitar player the fender strat love it even the twin reverb guitar players only good as the person who plays it. Good job Isaiah keep playing keep teaching. 🎸🎶🎶
Awesome!! Classic Strat Quack!! And this guy is an incredible player.
Nice job Fender. It’s brilliant.
The tone sounds like it's coming out of my Deluxe Reverb Tonemaster.
Very Cool, Educational, and Informative !!!
Precisely Accurate.
😎GreaT Stuff.🐯
That was a great Demo Man !
Finally, a clean demo. Thanks.
Excited for the modern heel high frets access i thought they're going to bring back super strats with 24 frets lol.
That guitar sounds incredible.
8:18 - 8:30 that's ringtone material right there.
Love that blue, don't think I'd seen it
Excellent demo. Thank you.
Isn't the S1 switch with the middle position the same as position 2?
Started watching for the guitar, stayed for the playing.
Please tell me this guy has his own band and isn't just a sideman? He's awesome! I just sold my custom shop Strat and have been missing having one. This blue is incredibly tempting.
Best use of the guitar @ 3:17. Maybe amp settings or light string gauge but this strat sounds thin? It does have that funky slap sound for rhythm but for lead its lacking tone definition and thickness. *Edit: In europe price is around 2000 euro? Noway… quality price ratio is wrong.
Excelent demo ! Clean Tones ! Yes !!!!
More of this w other artists as well!
sounds like my CUSTOM MADE 2000 HSS-----IT WAS EXPENSIVE
Great player!!
He just looks so natural with a guitar getting those looks wish you could teach me a few of those I would pay you remind me to bring these comments if you're teaching stuff like this if you want to make some extra money I'm looking for
Not ready to trade in my 91 strat ultra or my 96 jeff beck signature strat. Bring back lace sensors, hipshot trem setters and wilkinson roller nuts!
One thing I definitely like is I can do wrap around thumb chords no prob with this guitar
That Cobra Blue
Beautiful playing
Lol I have American pro Strat , and they are almost same (color is new,and shape) . I was expecting 24 frets, emg and stuff like that :/
Fender hasn't been doing huge stuff recently, but I like this guitar
CodyTheDoggo can’t say I agree. Fender tonemaster amps, vintera, acoustasonic now this. I think they’re on top with the big brands.
@@micahortez8508 true, true
That Strat would look great with a rosewood neck...
and sound like garbage
@@robbfrank4141 lollll
I want an Ultra Elite(or Elite Ultra) Strat.
don't know why they moved the truss rod adjustment back to the headstock. seems counter intuitive
Exactly. Thank you. Finally someone notices. It was a working musicians guitar. Now, more expensive, less options. Why? It won't sell more now. Well, maybe the hipster jazzmaster addition
where was it before? isn't in the other end of the neck, so you have to remove the pickguard and is really annoying?
@@faustoorieta it was a wheel, like the charvels and custom shop Jackson's and Ernie balls, down at the heel. Absolutely no removal of the neck, and a kindergarten kid could adjust his neck in seconds. It was awesome for Fender to finally use it
@@faustoorieta here is a picture of the truss wheel.

@@lancecass8997 Ah gotcha, I've seen those but never in a Strat. Yeah, they are the best choice for truss rod adjustment
That blue in Nitro or Acrylic Lacquer would be perfect.
Wasn't really a fan of the Strat until I recently became a huge fan of David Gilmour.now I want one.nice vid👍
For noiseless pickups, they sound great.
This is the only guitar that I have not ripped out the typically shitty Fender pups. They are really nice and I think they finally got it right this time.
My dream is buy this guitar
isn't being in third position with the s1-switch on the same as playing in 2nd position (middle and neck PU)?
you play like a god btw!
3rd position with S1 engaged still uses both neck and mid but instead of the pickups being in series, they’re in parallel like humbuckers would be.
ah okay thank you!
Great demo !!!
That fender and Isiah are perfect fit playing since he was 4! Me 3 1/2 and I ain’t nowhere near as good
Hey men, great sound pf yje oys stratocaster,Chiken,Hendrix, versatil, and great intepretatipon, congratulations from Argentina.
Nice playing men great guitar
Cuz it's my favorite color
I would faint just by looking at that strat
killing it brother xoxo
How was this recorded? It sounds so high quality, and it has an almost 3D audio effect. Sounds like i'm listening to it in the room itself.
Stereo babyyyy
If hendrix was a live he would say groovy playing man
I have a black and white stratocaster but it ain't got a tremolo system only my Jackson Guitar does
Hi, what audio interface and mic you use?? Thank you
Sound amazing and very huge and clean
nice one tho how about contour?? but I have to stick to my Elite.... just bought it a month ago...XD
Anyone know the name of what riff he was playing at 4:55 ?? Sounds really nice.
Still dunno about the noiseless. Sounds a bit like a high cut. Like the strings are muted with some rubber band or something. At least in this demo.
its lacking thickness and defintion. For 2k euro this is wrong
Bruh, still no stainless steel frets.
Does it really matter though?
Never
@@hermest99 I don't mind on a $500 mexican strat, but for $2k... I mean Ibanez can do it, why not Fender?
@@Light4Jun Well their main guitar engineers said they didn't think the investment was warranted because you don't really notice it when playing. It doesn't influence the sound that much but it does put immense stress on their tools as they require more replacing and repairs of these tools.
I dunno, never played a stainless steel fret, do you notice it?
@@Light4Jun and ibanez does it at the $1,400 level. Shit i have a warmoth roasted maple neck with stainless frets that i got brand new for $250 custom order.
2:10 Woah
How do you think it compares w the Fender American Vintage II 1966 Jazzmaster?
Excellent 🇨🇦
ほしい
interesting taste of tone
That sounds pretty jazzy
Nice i am definately curious about the new body contours. Always felt they could improve on the neck heel and still maintain the vintage character.
It's not new. They just changed the name of the elite line.
@@fendercuber The deeper sculpted neck heel is where they got me. I tend to play higher up on the neck and was actually for a while considering a Suhr/Musicman as an option. I just never liked the necks on some of the Musicman. The pickups etc. I tend to swap out anyway. With that said. It is a bit of a catch 22 because if Fender can't veer off from the traditional shape too much without alienating the purists.
@@hhattingh The American Elite line also had the contoured neck heel joint. All Fender did was literally change the name of the Elite line of guitars, remove the truss rod adjustment, remove some models including all left handed guitars, and increase the price. Just trying to help a brother out!
@@fendercuber So did the Deluxe and the CS Post Modern Series and CS Jeff Beck..I think. However it was only contoured, not angled/sloped. They all maintained that chunky wood between the body and your palm they just rounded the contour. Thanks for the lookout though appreciated.
@@hhattingh Ah thanks for the correction. I read your reply and checked for myself and you're right. I was aware of the Deluxe and Post Modern series having the contoured heel joint but I was not aware of the American Ultra being angled/sloped unlike the previous models.
love fenders but if imma drop 2 Gs , rather get a suhr
100000000000% those noiseless pikcups vs Suhr's system... no comparison.
@@BigSh00tsie I mean I can see where your coming from. But the noiseless pickups only cost 2 hundred bucks give or take. Im not sure if you ever played a Suhr. But they very well built and very comfortable to play. Im just saying, a 2 thousand dollar Fender for the "Ultra American" strat. you can honestly buy and american made strat and do some upgrades and have it play and sound better then this and it still would be cheapier. Sorry to rant.
@@Rizz.Beats_ no no i was agreeing with you.
@@BigSh00tsie haha sorry, totally must of read that wrong. But cheers!
Rizz.Beats exactly dude fender seems to just add new things to a strat and expect it to be worth 3 grand nothing really ultra about this only real change to the guitar is the contours and the button
I'm losing my mind bro ✨✨
This dude has a bass players right hand.
He plays bass too. I was in a session for Tito Jackson a few years back. They needed bass parts and he pretty much did the same thing he did here. Unreal!
hi ! iwas looking the fender player L. edition in sienna burst H.S.S. i would buy it but i need it to be delivered by fedex or dhl to ARGENTINA . is there any promo about shipping courrier door to door to my country.. !?
Can you share his settings on his amp?
whats the difference between "position 4" versus "position 3 w/ the S1 switch engaged"?
The neck pickup is added in, fuller richer sounding tone
No difference imo
If the neck pup is already active, the s1 doesn’t do anything basically. In a weird way it makes sense. Say, if you want to go from neck/middle to neck/bridge quickly, you can have the s1 on and it’s just a flick of the blade switch.
Any opinions on how these play? Friend of mine got one and was very disappointed.
I’ve seen around 20 videos of the new ultra, everyone says the new contour in the back helps for jamming out but they never demo it. Just wonderingly
They fucked up this one. Not enough meat for neck
You also get the tone of Mr. Hilarious Sharkey on top or do I need to pay extra for it? :)
did he miss catching the tremolo at around 1:07?
Yes
So it's an elite with new pickups and a different name?
what did you expect
@@sugarlife485 something different lmao 😂
@@mynamesjondowell this is what I did....This guitar is avg...and 1800 smackers....i sold 2 guitars and... bought an amazing custom shop strat for 2450 used blows this crap away...it doesnt even sound like a strat in my awesome opinion
And no more truss rod wheel. Sad story. That was a strong selling point for working musicians. No need for vintage looks here, there's already an entire range dedicated to that, American Original
SUGAR LIFE all strats are the same man lmao only difference is the name and the person demo'ing the guitar
3:09
And betWeheen the neck
Superb playing, I love all of the clean jazzy and R & B tones. Every demo is typically a bunch of freaking metal and Djent bullshit. I love metal, don't get me wrong.
I must say though, I have never been a fan of the thin eggshell In-between strat sounds.
no pure bypass
talented player avg guitar
Well it’s not anything to behold, but it’s an improvement.
