Having raced these little things for over a decade all I can say is kudos to you. You seemed to revel in the front-wheel drive dance the more the grip disappeared. Too good!
Great footage, exciting driving. My 1st car was an 850, nothing as powerful as these cars but heaps of fun! Thanks for living over again my youtful days behind the the wheel of the car that changed the world!
Epic onboard, Alex! Love seeing all the details you don't see in the broadcast (or even at the trackside). The car looked very light on its rear toes when the drizzle came... Thrilling to watch 🙌🏽
The rear view footage added on the top of the front view is absolutely amazing! I would have perhaps mirrored the rear view footage, would make sense considering it works like a rear view mirror now. Would be easier to follow when the opponent cars stay on the same side of the footage when overtaking etc.
This is easily the best overall car enthusiast, petrol head youtube channel that exists. Watching Alex handle these cars is mesmerizing and seeing your enthusiasm on F1tv is great too. F1tv needs you more often!
BRILLIANT footage , I watched this race a few days ago track side footage , seeing the in car footage is even better , I'm trying to watch the front and rear view at the same time, and I'm missing half of both so I'm going to watch the front view first then rewind then watch the rear because I don't want to miss any of this !
I always find it frustrating watching minis in these mixed races - they get overtaken on the straights by cars with big engines, and then hold up the minis on the bends…
That Galaxie chopped your nose off pretty hard! And while i do like to look at GT Cortinas, you sure did get passed by a few. Mini needs an extra 50hp.
@@BrundleBTW Didn't Swift in your build videos say your car would around +130 hp? Aren't the Cortinas at best 170-180 hp? Maybe more if they are 1800. Or is it the Galaxies you are refering to only have 90 hp more? Would have thought it was quite a bit more
@@BrundleBTW Yikes! I am currently building an appendix K Alfa 1600 GTA and I am not expecting to get more than 170 hp on the crank. Primarily for Danish national racing, but the plan was to go race in Europe eventually, when the car is sorted. But 200hp are insane. That is what I get from my 2l GTAM
I bet that was pure joy for you, purest of racing with none of the tech. Did you get any advice from any old racers who might have raced these back in the day..Dad?
These "V8 things" offer cheap Nascar speed in historic racing. Some events now have 50% of the field taken up by either such tanks or GT40s (6 Hour race at Spa is a good example). However, for many folks in smaller cars there is a fair amount of danger involved (imagine being in a 600 kg Mini hit side on by a Galaxie at 50mph)! The answer: put 5 litre V8s in a race with 5 litre V8s, not with 1275cc Minis... It would be very interesting to have Alex's view as he races both!

Just found this channel after watching the gt40 race! What a great channel ❤

Amazing footage.
Tks for sharing
Leave the little guy alone! :) I miss my mini, can’t wait to drive it again. Total hoot

Great dicing, good watch!
Such a joy to watch :)
I'll be interested in footage from the E-type too, that looked like it was going very well until it wasn't.
@@Karibanu it just dried out… at which point you are missing 100+ horsepower

Cortinas are up towards 200bhp now

mini just needs more power for down the straights. would love a properly sorted little mini running about 180bhp.

Big grey America V8 thing at the start behaved pretty poorly

This is a vaguely typical field for 60s BSCC though, it's not modern convenience.
That was Jake Hill's car, I think?
That’s pretty standard for the driver of it.
The windscreen wipers on that blue mini that was behind you brought back memories of my old one… 😂
