I had a Red R107,great car,then 2002,2005,2007 SL55's.All Black,& the last,an SL55 I bought from Mercedes Newbury,Phillip Nolsen,we took to Affalterbach,and derestricted,Pulley upgrade & it did 330 kph! Now,here in Palm Beach Qld Australia,have a SL63 5.5 V8 BiTurbo,and two other C200 Benzes,One Wagon,(Most useful tool I own) and an Avantgarde AMG C200. I've owned 'Benzes since 1978, 450SE,and 1986 a 300E,2000 E240 then 2004 500E. "Engineered like No Other Car",indeed. But, I have a 2008 997 911 Manual and a new Supercharged 5 L V8 Mustang Manual,to compare.🤣

Looks clunky in civilian clothes, but in racing trim is one of the best looking GT1 cars. Very purposeful.

These cars are monsters! My favorite dream car is the GT40, it was soooo much ahead of its time and the engine....! What a sound! Where is the fuel tank placed on these modern GT40s? Can you place it in a safer place than the original?

Pre MOWOG these engines were designed to be used as a starter engine for some larger industrial engine. Someone might know more details.

The engineering is stunning, but I raise a glass of something non-destructive to evolution that made you a head that can take that shaking and still perform as well as the tech!

I was at Mossport outside of Toronto and the Minis blew the Porches of the track. The wee wheels gave a much better acceleration out of the curves, and by the time the Porches caught up they were onto another curve, sweet.

These mini engines have been tuned to 100bhp per litre since the 1970s. Just shows how good the engineers were way back then. I can remember my dad building racing Minis. He even had one with a cross-flow cylinder head.

I’m all but 70 years old and when I was in my teens, I use to build mini’s with my friend. We built quite a few cars and I was studying and training to become an engineer and my friend now brother-in-law was training as a mechanic. We were both mad on cars and every car we have had is usually modified. Anyway, we build these mini’s completely on our own including every nut and bolt of the engine. Yes we modified the engines usually 1275’s bored out to 1310, and as I was an engineer and had full access to all machining facilities. We did a lot of work to these mini engines and mini’s and they were quick for the day, over 100mph in third was something I remember. Lot of work to achieve that though and Oils were not as good in those days. I use to love the sound of the engine brupping on low revs due to the cam a 649 or 731. We got a reputation locally for producing quick mini’s and I remember a guy telling me he had been advised by a policeman to contact us for help in making his mini quicker. They were great days. Love the old mini.

12G295 cylinder head? If memory serves me right that was the head we used to use. Some 1100 also had this head. So we used to spend hours down the scrap yard😂

Glyn (the old man) built my full-race 1380 in the early 1980 at his workshop off the A127. Used a Longman head. Very powerful!
