I done a few seasonal bird banding in college. Would love to get back into it but nobody in my area does it. I have a few great spots a long Arkansas river that will work great for banding migratory birds.
Hmm, I found a tagged bird (dead, sadly), maybe 4 months ago and my report went through. I'm sure you could still send it in if you remember when you found it. For me, USGS sent an email describing the bird's history and age when banded
It’s the best way to study dispersal and migration, behavior and social structure, life-span and survival rate, reproductive success and population growth. The more birds that get band the better the data is.

I found a bird band while metal detecting in a river, I tried reporting it but the USGS, report a bird band site, was down. What should I do next?

@@silvesby yeah, I kept trying and a week or so later, it went through. Pretty interesting to find out what type of bird and from where it came from.
I might get that job but say if I fed some bird food?
I found a bird with tag, wat to do ?
why can't you measure in the bag then subtract bag weight? is there a benifit of the pvc?
the bird might move too much in a bag to get an accurate weight, thats my guess
Some stations due use bags but it proves a challenge to weigh at times due to the bird moving to much
Where did you get all small bands I’ve been looking for some but cannot find none they just fall off my bird
Your bird doesn’t need a bracelet
These kids be like wtf, lmao
At least you’re nice to them but what is the point of this why can’t you just let them be

It helps showing species of birds that are stable, in decline, migration factors etc to better assist them.
I'm pretty sure some of em die
This is cruel!
They’re using this information to save bird populations
Nope it’s not
It’s scientific study that gives info to better protect species of birds that may be in decline from climate change etc.
Animal abuse
They’re literally using the information to save birds lives and they never physically hurt the birds just stress them out
