Through funding from Nebraska Environmental Trust and a partnership between Nebraska Game and Parks and Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, two bird banding stations have been operating every year during the fall migration in Western Nebraska at Wildcat Hills State Recreation Area, and Chadron State Park, for over a decade now. Through long term monitoring of migrating birds, scientists have a better understanding of the bird populations and important bird habitats found here in Nebraska.

I love the birds around my home in Summer, but hate the droppings they leave over my vehicles. It is always nice to see them during the warm months and also during the Winter months also and we even had some Canadian Geese which stopped and rested in my brothers back yard and later left on their migration route. Some geese remain here all year long though and I saw them in Illinois, and Michigan and those there seem to be permanent residents and enjoying the water sources to relax, eat, and having their babies at.
I found a bird band while metal detecting in a river. I went to the USGS report a band site and it was down. What should I do now?
Hi Jimmy, The best thing to do is to just try back later and report the band when the site is back up.
