I feel that something that makes someone look cool is the nonchalant functionality of an outfit. Like if you walk around a lot in the city, you wear comfy sporty shoes. If you work in an office and carry around books / computer or if you have kids, you need a backpack. For me it's accessories that prove to me that you are a functional human being. They can kind of "ruin" an outfit, but they serve a greater purpose - to make you feel good!
as a heavy silver jewelry and accessory wearer, i feel seen, i feel heard, my vivienne westwoods have magically appeared on my fingers. i also love how easily this can be DIYed and doesn't require anyone going out and buying a lot of clothes.
I'm a very new viewer (found the channel only a few days ago) and also happen to be one of the males in your audience, but I very much enjoy how your fashion opinions do not tend to sacrifice practicality or function for the sake of fashion or trendiness. it's a pretty unique stance amongst many a repetitive fashion influencer (though there is nothing inherently wrong about liking/following trends) but it makes you stand out in a way that's really refreshing to see. also, I've found that a lot of your style opinions/advice are quite gender-neutral, which is awesome for me because often, the advice given by fashion girlies doesn't apply to me very well, yet tbh the fashion boys are far less interesting to follow the advice of. So thank you for providing fun, insightful, interesting content that I can actually use and take to mind :D I think you might be my new favorite fashion channel. That being said, I think I'll start wearing my backpack straps clasped over my chest, now that I'm aware of how much more interesting it can make a simple outfit.
THIS is why I have an entire appreciation board on Pinterest called "design details". I am also a designer and detail obsessed so I'm CONSTANTLY keeping an eye out for interesting design details. I don't buy it unless it's a nice basic or has amazing details. Honestly, my house is the same way. Lots of little trinkets and details and places to rest your eyes. So important!
i think i just adore the way you talk about... yk kinda everything. you're my new fashion girlie to follow. thanks for the video ash, they where very helpful tips
I love your attention to all the details and agree with the little metal hardware bits and bobs! While I appreciate the simplicity, I do think maximalism works well with a diy or crafty aspect to an outfit and in autumn/winter months where it has more of a functionality. That simple CK 90s style is beautiful for spring/summer though! In the winter, one of those hadmade coats (made from a vintage quilt) combined with all the handmade knit/crochet acessories...it's just so cozy and can be styled very unique too!
The algo recommended your vids and you've quickly become one of my fave channels. Even though I'm a guy your fashion discourse relates to anyone, which is great!
Oooh this definitely brings up a larger conversation about functional details being turned into accessories as a result of designers forgetting their original utility! It's so fascinating...the same happens in architecture (for example, shutters that don't cover the whole window, etc) Don't get me wrong; I love a good fireman clasp. I just also love thinking about the way we go from function to form. (Then forgetting where form came from!) Such an interesting topic from a designer's pov. Taking the time to notice the beauty of intention within design is a lovely thing
I looove you're videos, i find about you're Chanel about two days ago and i been loving them, it's currently summer vacations in my country and next year i start college which will be the first time i won't have to wear a uniform so you're videos have been very helpful because i don't know my style let alone what to wear
90s minimalism with a bit of metal sounds absolutely awesome. And the edited photos, especially the clasps, are night and day! I particularly like the fireman clasps, they have a certain medieval flavor to me, akin to chainmail and armor. And I agree completely about hardware in general. A rather vanilla take on this, but I feel naked dressing up and not wearing a necklace, especially silver ones that contrast more with my complexion. They look good over tops as well. An honorable mention I'd add to hardware: Metal buttons. I always loved metal buttons, especially those with some kind of coat of arms design on it, over plain plastic ones, especially on denim or dark colored coats etc
My brain is also a bit repelled by layering on myself. The bulk is cumbersome, can feel like it limits mobility and murders the swish and drape of materials
The watch over clothing is my fav and you have absolutely ingrained that in my head. Eversince i started watching your channel i have subconsciously picked up the watch over clothing and today that you spoke about it im like noooo. dont say that out loud people will start following that and we'll loose our lil secret 😭😭. I sorry but i want to gatekeep you while also wanting you to succeed immensely because you have so much more insights than any ither youtuber who just picks everything from pinterest or fast fashion. Love love loveeee!
I just stumbled upon your channel a few days ago and I cannot stop binging!! I love your takes so so much they alter all my brain chemistry regarding fashion sense ily 🎀💕
I agree with the metal hardware making outfits look cooler. I keep a carabiner on my bag to hold my water bottle and sometimes I don’t even use it, it just looks cool. About the fireman clasps I think those look sick I just don’t know how to attach them to a jacket. Hopefully there’s a tutorial out there somewhere.
This video came at the perfect time because I just bought a blank oversized jumper and I needed a way to make it more interesting! Big fan of fashion hardware now
I love hearing your perspective on things, even if I don't agree with everything. You and Tuba Avalon's channel is where I go for highbrow fashion analysis (incidentally, she just made a case for maximalism, haha).
I’ve been watching all your vids recently, and that fireman clasp idea, has my mind blown. I made myself winter coat, but I never put buttons on it because I was afraid of ruining it (I’ve just been wearing it sans buttons) I’m so glad I waited because fireman clasps are clearly the answer! Thank you!!!!
Bit dumb but I really like how u regularly speak abt a thing you like for me it makes me reflect on what i actually like outside of what's seen as looking good atm
Amazing amazing I’m still watching this but it’s so easy 4 people to forget to elevate the ‘basics’ not just talking about material but more detail / hardware
i have a pair of rings that look like actual hex nuts, and i got so many compliments on them. i basically never go anywhere without them, especially since i tend to wear more monochrome outfits. the rings instantly elevate my look so much.
I love your videos even tho we really have opposites styles, i also love minimalism but i despise jeans. I want my outfits to be interesting too but only on how they fit my body. I hate wearing belt and big watch and chunky rings, but i love hairpins too!! so theres one thing we have in common, maybe bc im only 5'0 so i want my accessories to be as tiny as possible lol. But i like how you style yourself and how you have very specific things that you like, you make me realize why i bought some of my stuff and why i like it in the first place 💗
I appreciate this video so much, as ive always been wondering why my outfits are a bit short of looking interesting. Now i get why i love belts, hats, hardware and interesting jewellery ❤❤
You might like those vintage Dale of Norway cardigans with the fancy clasps instead of buttons. They're not technically fireman clasps, but they're so pretty and WARM.
Ahhh I completely agree about layering. I hate it. I just want simple but cool outfits. On an unrelated note, the grinch intro makes me cackle every time I see it. I simply adore that movie.
I believe this is just your style or what would look good on you personally. the firman claps I believe is not for me or for that dude in that photo but when you had it on I could see why you believe the firemen clamps to be interesting. great exotically pleasing video as well. the low quality mixed in with your hand movements and how you say and your words mixed in with the passion for fashion really have me coming back to your videos. I believe that you yourself is unique. you have the it factor. Idk if it's because you are extremely okay with who you are as a person or if you really don't care about others opinions. but what I will say is that theres an it factor to you and your videos and I hope you keep making your videos with the same amount of passion each and every videos. very interesting and entertaining to hear you speak. thank you very much.
Your videos have been recommended to me recently and I’m really enjoying watching ur vids when they come up! I’ve always been a fan of functional clothing but only recently realised it- A lot of points you mentioned in this video really hit for me 😍 #iloveclasps #bucklesandstuff
trust the punks/goths have always understood. my favorite necklace that goes with anything is literally just made from an o-ring and some medium thickness chain from home depot. less than $5 in materials, so simple to make, and in three years it hasn’t tarnished even with near-daily wear.
You're 100% right and duffle coats are to die for. I recommend you to check out korean brands like eastlogue, I am obssessed with their coats (not with the prices). Your idea of diying the hardware is really interesting, might do that for my secondhand barbour coat!
Hardware (non-chrome hardware mind you - I won't buy ANYTHING that I can see myself in. The shine just isn't necessary and can look very cheap) in particular speaks of expense and quality. Furthermore, CUSTOM metal work speaks more so. Anything with a peculiar shape, anything that looks specific to that item of clothing or accessory, adds miles of style. It looks as though thought was put into the piece, instead of a fast fashion brand slapping their pre-cast and moulded hardware onto anything they design in a couple minutes. I think the thing that makes any garment or accessory so interesting, is just specificity. Thought, personality, attention to detail - and hardware in the form of clasps, closures, buttons, etc. often creates an air of practicality. OMG EDIT SORRY You mentioned the backpacks with the clasps over the front? Lately I'd put on my aunties old running backpack and had been doing the same thing and I hadn't even thought to look at it on Pinterest or aestheticise it in my mind - I just thought the straps were cute and it was practical. That makes me so excited we were on the same wavelength lol.
we need to get u to japan (esp osaka) asap bcs i got the most gorgeous fireman clasp jacket at a market last week !! also the k&r belted back jeans in the herringbone color way that have been on my wishlist for ages sold out and it’s safe to say I cried 🙂↕️ funny and insightful vid as always girl xx
Hey, a lot of fast fashion shirts cheap out on buttons, you should try replacing them with wood or bone or metal or something! I replaced some cheap shit plastic buttons on a H&M white cotton shirt with white fabric covered buttons, now it looks vintage and beautiful
As a man, I only wear a tote or cross body to add to a look, and vintage pins do wonders. Stick them all over the straps and a basic tote has personality.
yesss!! its so much better when there is an accent that just makes the outfit shine instead of looking like joey in that episode of friends where he wore everything at once now those are good examples of “styling vs wearing”🫶🏻
can't go wrong with cherry painted nails💅 But fireman clasps on denim? It's not horrible but um yk interesting... Idk it's odd with certain fabrics yk. Cinched back jeans are just 😍 Kiss claps are also just mwuah. 90s come back🙏!!! Are you gonna do a trend prediction for the new year?
@ashleighcallaghan and girl omg, talking about nineties inspo, I've been getting so much inspo from a Swedish movie "Fucking åmål" so good and like such simple nineties looks. I even got like the headbands and like it's perfect. Baggy sporty track pant and a tiny top😍
People want clothing that serves a greater purpose than just looking good in Instagram photos and I’m here for it.
Always 💪
You get it
