I have had this issue in watching previous tournaments, specifically SPL and ADV revival. Where can I see a tournament bracket/schedule? When it gets towards the end it's not such a big deal because the videos are listed Semifinals or Quarterfinals, but when they are just listed like week 1 or something, I can't tell what the stakes are for the match.
Im pretty sure that if you used trace or skill swap or any ability that make you gain the foes ability on huge power, huge power boost would be halved from x2 to x1.5 (still x2 for azumarill line) for whatever reason while pure power stays the same…Why is this the case is beyond me(idk if it’s fixed but pretty sure this was a thing in gen 3(I may be wrong))
@@SoloCap-MusicI remember as a kid I thought it was Machamp's signature move, because in Gen 4 the description said something like "hits the foe with its forearms" and I thought they meant "four arms" lmao
I love encores distribution in the early games. Wobbuffet has it bc he's based oof a comedian. Plusle and minun are cheerleaders. Spheal claps. And Machamp has 4 hands so he claps extra hard.
I like to imagine Machamp using encore to encourage his trainer at the gym. "Trainer used push-up" "Machamp used encore!" "Trainer was able to finish all his reps thanks to Machamp's encouragements!"
@@thisrandomdude2880 Well, if you run out of PP for a move when you get Encored, then you just use struggle. So it's more like "Trainer used push-up" -> "Machamp used encore"->"Trainer used struggle"->"Trainer hurt itself with recoil".
I feel like it is more of an argument of why Machop is better than Hariyama. He didn't really give any points in Hariyamas favor, as even the positive things he mentioned, he later goes on to say why they actually aren't true. Could have done some more explaining on why knock off is so important.
@@unkarsthug4429 It's more of an argument of why Hariyama doesn't completely outclass Machamp. He's talked about Hariyama in the past, so this one was about letting Machamp have his Monday.
Machamp is a very interesting mon in gen 4 imo. People are just starting to explore different sets with it that conserve dpunch pp, and I've noticed something special about cross chop on a no guard set, it's very good at fishing for crits alongside dpunch. Great introduction to probability management that pokemon.

Yeah, he kind of trolled this section a bit. The main notable advantage Machamp has with having higher defense but lower HP, is it gets better value out of investing in HP. Hariyama doesn't get much value out of investing in HP, and usually has to choose between defense and special defense investment (and usually I think actually drops some attack investment).
How could you fail to mention that Machamp is also a world class Sunny Day setter with access to Fire Blast and the same special attack as known special attacker Snorlax?
@@jensvide777 Pokeologist here, while it's true Hariyama's hands are too far apart to adequately perform the move "Encore", this doesn't affect Hariyama's ability to perform fake out whatsoever, because he's not using his hands, he's using his ass cheeks. Hariyama having access to the ability "Thick Fat" means his ass cheeks are fat enough to create a clap so loud as to cause a 100% flinch rate and minimal damage to an opposing pokemon. Unfortunately, Hariyama isn't able to encore with his ass, it's too heavy to rapidly clap the cheeks and create the effect.
Nice video as always Jim Question u playing gen 3 UU BL this month, is a spotlight metagame, i wanna play gen 3 ubers or something. Do u recomend the tier?
Hello Jimothy Cool, is there a particular reason as to why you stopped putting the Pokepastes for teams in your description? I loved using the teams you posted
Hariyama's massive HP does have its advantages when it comes to switching into Blissey - Hariyama can take 5 seismic tosses without investment while Machamp only survives 3.
Machamp is definitely good, but his unique space is definitely way smaller than either Heracross or Breloom, and Hariyama was picked up by the Knock Off hype train. I think that he definitely could have potential, though, and while I'm not convinced Encore is as good of a unique tool as Knock Off, his total utility space has more overlap with the other fighting types than Hariyama. If I was going to have 2 fighting types on my team, idk if I'd consider Machamp over one of the OU boys + Hariyama, but if I'm only picking 1 I definitely would.
Machamp is already pretty solid against most Pokemon that aren't spikes immune. He niche tends to be relying more heavily on offense, so you don't want to spend as much time setting up spikes. Meanwhile, Hariyama uses knockoff to facilitate racking up chip damage, which makes him usually a better choice on teams with spikes.
I still don’t understand the point of BL tiers if you can’t use them outside of the tier above. The game would be different but allowing one per team from the BL above would be a more interesting way to balance test the tiers
Gen 3 is still the most diverse metagame in my opinion, one where you can build the most team options and a lot of pokemon feel balanced in ways other games dont in the series. Hariyama also has options that dont feel as explored possibly for good reasons however, for example thick fat is there for more defensive options against ice and fire moves. While Medicham is my personal favorite Gen 3 fighter. I love that Machamp in Hariyama bring similar yet different enough gameplay styles to the table and can prove even these slower fighters pack a big punch.
So, I just calced Hariyama vs Machamp to check if the higher defensive stats makes Machampa sturdier... It doesn't. I made their attack stats equal, gave them max HP, max Def with a +Def nature, and checked their damage with Focus Punch on each other and: Machampson does 36.3 - 42.8% to Hariyama, while Hariyama does 39.8 - 46.8% to Machampey. Machomp's higher defense stat did not reduce the damage enough to outclass Hariyama's HP. Idk if this is an outlier calc, but as far as I can tell, with their attack stats identical and using the exact same move, that is definitive proof that Machampley is not as bulky physically no matter what. Machamploo will always take more damage across the spectrum of physical attacks when you place them in the exact same situations. I then checked +0 DD T-tar with EQ, and, with the same defensive investment, 252 HP, 0 Def, Machampion was still taking marginally more. All that said, Machamp is still THE champ in my heart.
