Ooo new lrr lore dropped. Memes and moxen, returning faces, and great vibes count me in! Also wish me luck I'm throwing a canlander charity event at my lgs soon and hopefully it'll be a lot of fun.
"The hard thing about blue isnt counterspells, its cantrips" I cannot agree with that sentiment harder as someone who recently put together an izzit phoenix deck for timeless. getting the right cantrip sequencing can be a lot to think through.
In answer to why the skydiver autoequips, Zendikar rising had an equipment subtheme and IIRC colossus hammer was in standard at the time. I always loved the mental image of the skydiver flying in, grabbing the hammer, and then falling to the ground as it takes away flying.
I honestly think what might have happened is either; because mox jet was down there they were counting it as a nonbasic land in their head, or that serge thought that the goose made a treasure and not a food, because when he put the goose into play initially he said treasure token instead of food. Looking back he even acknowledges the fact that he has a food and still scoops, bizzare.
At 52:10, after you found the mountain cycle, you wanted to - pay 1 to look at the top 3 - in response draw with top - mountain cycle while the look at the top 3 was still on the stack
52:00 you can spin top, respond by tapping it to draw, then after the draw but before the spin resolves, mountaincycle to shuffle top away then spin resolves and you get another look
48:12 Seek the Beast lasts until your next end step, so if you cast it main phase you only have the cards available until you move to that turn's end step
Hard retweet on Wheeler saying Magic players are more focused and motivated on calling new cards other people think are good, bad, rather than the inverse. I think it’s a pride thing, if you call something good and it doesn’t pan out, you’re a dummy and a bad magic player of course, and if you’re right, EVERYONE was saying it’s good, but if you call something bad and it turns out to be bad, you’re a smart and shrewd sage, and if you’re wrong, oh well, at least you aren’t the dumb idiot who called a trash card amazing.
1:34:05 Personally I think lame lethal is the time where people were slow rolling Sudden Shock for the kill and letting opponents go through the motions.
1:26:46 I was really hoping after that deep inhale, Wheeler was just gonna be like "Actually collector boosters are great and support a part of the community that people unjustly hate just because they don't make money and..."
@Serge i know it's not necessarily that big of a deal, but you explained the saga sequence wrong to Alex. I have a Tom Bombadil commander deck, so I had to teach myself how to explain this. State based checks don't happen while the chapter trigger is on the stack, as the game has active effects happening. This means that at the beginning of Alex's precombat main phase, he puts a lore counter on Urza's Saga, this doesn't use the stack and is un interactable, then Saga triggers putting an effect on the stack for the corresponding chapter on the Saga, this IS interactable like almost anything that uses the stack, even though this is the final chapter nothing happens yet, as priority passes and the stack resolves he goes and finds his 0 or 1 costing artifact and puts it on the battlefield, then he shuffles. Finally, once the stack is clear, Urza's Saga checks to see if the number of lore counters is equal to the number of chapters, if at THIS SPECIFIC POINT these numbers are equal and NOT BEFORE does the state based action cause the owner of the saga to sacrifice it. The reason why this is important to me is because I built my aforementioned Tom Bombadil deck to take advantage of this interaction. If you were to use an ability like Power Conduit's to remove a lore counter at instant speed from a saga, you can put what would be the final counter on a saga, have the trigger go on the stack, in response remove a lore counter, have the ultimate effect of the saga happen, but the saga will stick around, because the state based check returns a lesser value.
Alex could not have played the 2nd mountain for the fire blast, your next end step is the turn you play it or your opponents and you yours if you play it on your opponents turn
not to be that guy (but also to be that guy) at 10:40 shouldn't alex hold his pyrokinesis for his turn? he has all the cards used in the sequence (pyrokinesis, lightning strike, incinerate and lava dart) if he does, he can use the extra point from kinesis to deal with serge's 3/3. certainly it does 2 less damage for that turn, but leaving serge with a blocker for future turns seems odd. especially when pyro wouldn't loose its free casting cost, and might only get better if we draw a worse red spell turn
i can see the line where putting serge to 10 means that if serge goes fetch into a nonbasic land, and doesn't leave 2 mana up for life gain/gains no life on his turn, alex's price of progress kills, but that's pretty risky imo
Canlander is my fav format to watch and be engaged with. Thank you for making it such a staple of LRR's MtG rotation.
MEMES AND MOXEN MENTIONED!!!!
RAHHHHH
Would that mean that Wheeler brings Battle of Wits again? Because I really want to see him play that deck more.
I will NEVER FORGET that Serge promised he’d bring mill to the next memes & moxen…
the man in question hasn’t appeared in a m&m since saying that…
Please bring back memes and moxens it was in my opinion the most fun magic content to watch on all platforms. I love seeing Jank cards played.
Man. Serge is so handsome and smart
We’ve got a paid actor here folks
serge wrote this
serge burner account spotted
"I'm blushing" -Serge
say Eladamri ten times fast to prove ur not Serge
The phased-out token also takes the shadowspear with it. Mostly important for if you try to do that in a tournament.
This game is wild. I hope tournaments have people at them who know the rules
😂
already watched this on twitch, but commenting because god i love canlander! More!
Alex how I’ve missed you, Paul how I appreciate you
O: Yes! Alex is back once more.
Ooo new lrr lore dropped. Memes and moxen, returning faces, and great vibes count me in! Also wish me luck I'm throwing a canlander charity event at my lgs soon and hopefully it'll be a lot of fun.
Wheeler's Drip is on point. New haircut, fresh shaven, crisp white shirt. CUH-LEEN!
The 1st two turn cycles of Alex v. Serge are something to behold. I am so excited for the 2 hours upcoming.
"The hard thing about blue isnt counterspells, its cantrips" I cannot agree with that sentiment harder as someone who recently put together an izzit phoenix deck for timeless. getting the right cantrip sequencing can be a lot to think through.
i love the merch acquired from my preferred card gaming streamers, Loudly Read and Run
Excellent, as always. Thank you!
My favorite content to watch, period!😊
Serge and Alex shipping Sam and Frodo is exactly what I need this Pride month
second breakfast
Obviously, Sheoldred wears jeans as a hat (waist band on the head, legs in the air). It's even represented in the art.
If Sheoldred wore pants, would she wear them like...
That last Nelson Wheeler game was amazing! Love canlander content
Nelly ripping the Tolarian Academy after Wheeler dropped the Winter Orb felt so good
In answer to why the skydiver autoequips, Zendikar rising had an equipment subtheme and IIRC colossus hammer was in standard at the time. I always loved the mental image of the skydiver flying in, grabbing the hammer, and then falling to the ground as it takes away flying.
FTGay is my new name for pyrogoyf
“I’m going to top before I draw-”
“Happy pride!”
This is the kind of content I am here for ❤ always love Canlander content from y’all!
Love seeing flying men gameplay. It's such a wild deck concept but runs so well
Game 1, doesn't Serge crack a food to live?
Yeah, I was really confused, he only has 2 nonbasics taking 4
he could've made another food even and than crack one with academy
Indeed he could. Came to say same thing
I honestly think what might have happened is either; because mox jet was down there they were counting it as a nonbasic land in their head, or that serge thought that the goose made a treasure and not a food, because when he put the goose into play initially he said treasure token instead of food. nobody seeing this baffled me
I always like to see Alex back! I wonder if he's gonna be in Friday Nights?
Loved that last game. Some really good back and forth. Also appreciate how cool Nelly is.
At 52:10, after you found the mountain cycle, you wanted to
- pay 1 to look at the top 3
- in response draw with top
- mountain cycle while the look at the top 3 was still on the stack
Literally about to comment and wheeler beat me to the applause break 👏
Seek the Beast... won't let you play two lands from it since you lose the cards at endstep
How many mugs do I have on my desk?!? I have never been more called out. I shall now go shame clean.
Always happy to watch some Canlander.
Yay Alex and canlander, thanks Team
When the vapor snag damage actually matters, it always feels so good.
52:00 you can spin top, respond by tapping it to draw, then after the draw but before the spin resolves, mountaincycle to shuffle top away then spin resolves and you get another look
Habanero looks like a sweet deck, I'm seriously considering building that as my first real Canlander deck!
Love seeing Alex back in the canlander scene.
M&M? As a treat?
I love alex's humor. When he asked if serge was going to maybe poop i lost it 💩
Man Serge really is so Handsome and Smart
What a Sunday blessing! Great games!
The best MTG format of them all!
48:12 Seek the Beast lasts until your next end step, so if you cast it main phase you only have the cards available until you move to that turn's end step
44:15 In order to make second breakfast you've gotta bust a few eggs?
Sam got the sauce.

Always love the Canlander nights!
The sound of shuffling must haunt all of the editors dreams.
1:34:05 Personally I think lame lethal is the time where people were slow rolling Sudden Shock for the kill and letting opponents go through the motions.
those awkward moments where you want to keep up blockers but your cards only do stuff on attack
handsome AND smart
I'm here to bring attention to "the algorithm"
Yay for more Canlander! :D
I am SO here for the new ACAB arc of FNPF
1:26:46 I was really hoping after that deep inhale, Wheeler was just gonna be like "Actually collector boosters are great and support a part of the community that people unjustly hate just because they don't make money and..."
Nelson, why did you put Trinket Mage in your graveyard. That's not what Subtlety does
Never learned how to read 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you, came looking for this.
9:35, isn't that just what everyone thinks when Serge is on screen?
The prof sent me to see some Canadian highlander. I need to figure out who the hidden commander of each deck is!!
Serge is so handsome and smart.
1:29:56 A gay friend once told me that I dress too straight. Still not sure what it means.
>Names the deck "Food Fight"
>Can't even run Food Fight
Game one, you could've lived through pop by sacrificing the food, and you could've made another food with goose
Let’s go!
don't worry serge, you can trust us with your pulse!

Can someone explain why serge didn't crack a food to stay at 1 life after the price of progress? He only had 2 lands and had the mana to tap.
Merchant Scroll to zero was such a mistake.

Lrr has really indoctrinated me into canlander
That last game was a nail-biter

At time of posting Card Kingdom is currently out of buttons
Couldn't Serge sac the food at the end of game 1 to survive?
poor nelly having to play against a deck with TWENTY counterspells in it serge is very handsome and smart though
Wheeler, are we taking about Powerstone 1 or Powerstone 2? Because yes on both accounts, I need a Powerstone
Finally Alex!!
HE SAID THE M&M WORD

Sorry for the long winded explanation, but i hope you'll find the interaction interesting.
Canlander enjoyers, rejoice!
ENGAGEMENT

So handsome. So Smart.
What's up with all the plasters on Alex arm. :D
Who owns this channel and why aren't they telling Wheeler to shut up about politics?
