+RaphaelAtherill; He did not demonstrate all mistakes. He must have remembered to pull the handbrake so the rear wheels are locked, and the car does not roll when he lifted up the front.
I realized something the other day: In high school I was studying to be an electrician and of course stumbled across your videos. Overtime it became evident that electrical work was not something I wanted to do for a living every day. When I bought the car I have now, one of the things it needed right off the bat was a brake job and I remembered this video and thought "if that guy can do it..." On Monday I start my fourth week at my first job at an auto shop. Also my buddy has that same jack and we've always turned the release knob with our fingers. We never thought to use the handle.
Good and easy to follow tutorial for most cars, however you forgot a crucial component that EVERY backyard mechanic should know: A good rule of thumb, if you EVER remove a wheel from a car, put it under the car so that when it falls down, it falls on the wheel. Please remember to use a jack stand on your car. It prevents your jack from slipping out and makes things more safe for you. Also remember to not drive the car if the brake pedal is spongey it's a sign of something that will prevent you from stopping.
I've just watched most of your videos and I have to give you a lot of credit. You're informative, you're entertaining, you're funny in a language that isn't your native tongue and you really fucking go for broke on the slapstick. The Three Stooges would be proud.

I think that this is genius and applaud you for it.
You also take quite the risks in your comedic stunts, I tend to be phobic from getting electrocuted but other stuff am find with. You have my thumbs up, enjoyed your videos for quite a while and I started spreading the word.
Love your videos, thanks! To everyone watching, make yourself a few rules and never break them. Always use wheel chocks. A couple chunks of 4x4 will do it. Block the opposite corner from where you are lifting. And always make sure to use a jack stand, share the weight between the lifting jack and the jack stand. Give the car a few good rough shoves to see if it will fall off the jacks before putting any part of yourself under the car. I'm not a safety do-gooder but a friend of mine died when his car fell on him. Rolled backwards down the driveway when he jerked on a wrench, and toppled off the single jack he was using. If you can't do all of the above, like when changing a tire with the crappy OEM jack, stay out from under it and have a plan for when it falls off.
Hi. Thanks for your interesting videos. I'm a new subscriber watched all of your videos. I love the way you emphasis the danger and mix it with a sense of humor. Also a common safety tip is to place the detached tire under the car just immediately after detaching it. So that if the jack accidentally pulled out of it's place, it will prevent the disc and other parts of the car to be damaged or even the body parts to be trapped and smashed under the fallen car as you showed the risk in your video very well. Many thanks again.
+Rafael Gomes sometimes it's good to put some grease on the side of the pad that comes in contact with the caliper piston so that it doesn't seize up to it and also someone the clips. but other than that you shouldn't really use too much grease on brake parts for obvious reasons.
The guide pins usually need greased. Guide pins let the caliper move around just a little. You typically want to use a high temperature silicone grease because first off brakes get very hot and also there are usually little rubber boots over the pins to help keep dust and grit out, petroleum based greases do bad things to rubber. If you buy a decent set of pads and not just the super economy ones you usually get a small packet of grease along with any clips and such. Otherwise, you absolutely want to keep the friction surface of both the pads and the rotor grease free.
You should have mentioned one or two things. 1. When pushing back the piston, sometimes you have to open the breakfluid tank so u are able to push them back. And if nessesary get some of the breakfluid out of the tank. 2. After pressing the breakes a few times u have to look if the amount of left over breakingfluid is correct. Eventually you have to fll it up. 3. When the New breakes are on, you mustn't do any hardbreakes for one or two days driving. 4. If the disks have some little "scars" the New breakingpads have to get the correct "shape" to have full breaking power. Just sayin. But as everytime, i love your Videos ;)
About number 3: different types of pads and disks have different types of break in periods. Sometimes several hard breaks are required to seat the pads. Read the manual and avoid coming to a complete stop.
As a note, you should always use a torque wrench when re-installing the caliper bolts, and torque them to the manufacturer specified force. Brakes are constantly under extreme forces so under/over torquing them can result in the bolts shaking out or sheering.
He is making all these mistakes on purpose. For other to see the dangers. He is not an IDIOT. He knows very well what he is doing. And in a very smart way....

Love your vids! Reading the comments I can see a lot of people don't get it, but I think it's awesome that you show exactly what can happen when common safety isn't adhered to. Plus you're really funny and it always makes my day:)
Hahahaa, a real Persian story: once i was working on my car, and the car fell of the jack, it was about to land on my foot, but im so fast it only caught my foot because i took the shoe of before the car landed. HAHAHAH
1:15 this is why you should use anti-seize on anything you screw back together. The military used to jump on giant wrenches to my uncle’s horror, so he would mix axle grease with WD-40 and paint it on the inside of the nuts. He was very happy when they invented anti-seize.
For the brakes, it would also depend on what sort of drive system your car has. (Such as front or rear wheel drive, or all wheel drive in some cases) I have a front wheel drive vehicle so I agree the front brakes are likely to wear out faster. I had to change a set of brake pads on my dad’s SUV once. It wasn’t all that bad, especially with two people working together.
0:49 you could put the car in reverse gear, and it will stop the wheels spinning forward and allow you to undo it. On the other side you'd put it in gear 1.
Your videos are hilarious! BUT, on a serous note- NEVER work on a car just supported on a jack, you should always have something else under the car just in case the jack moves, shifts, the hydraulics leak... the generic safety natzi answer is jack stands but in a pinch and if you're in a hurry, just throw the tire that you just took off under the car, if the jack shifts the worst that can happen is it falls on the tire, not your foot or leg... While I'm at it, chock the wheels or if you're working on the non parking brake axle you can set the parking brake.
edward. you didn't take your medication too right? This video was never intended to be a guide, it was intended to be funny, and nobody will use that as a reference. Stop being condescending, and losing your time about safety education on youtube, nobody's here for this kind of shit.
I've done the brakes on my car and my sister's car (similar model) and also my mom's car. And I MUST SAY, the speed with which he just slapped those front pads in was ridiculous. I'd love to work on cars that have that sort of build. It's been a headache every damn time for me! Everything is so congested, it's crazy. I don't know how they build these things in the first place. Also he is totally correct about needing to press the brake several times, I had replaced them and FLEW down the hill afterwards, I eventually pressed the brake enough and the car slowed down. Pretty scary and quite funny in retrospect.
I think that making every possible mistake is actually a great way to educate people about work safety.

While I'm at it, chock the wheels or if you're working on the non parking brake axle you can set the parking brake.
you didn't take your medication right?
edward. you didn't take your medication too right? This video was never intended to be a guide, it was intended to be funny, and nobody will use that as a reference. Stop being condescending, and losing your time about safety education on youtube, nobody's here for this kind of shit.
***** He also mentioned to put something else under the car during the video.
This guy is a teacher for many of us
I've done the brakes on my car and my sister's car (similar model) and also my mom's car.
