Robin didn't commit suicide because he gave up hope and strength, he had serious mental issues that led to his death. Re: "Who thought of this movie?" (16:37) - The book was written by Richard Matheson, same person who wrote "Bid Time Return," which was the source for the movie "Somewhere in Time" - and many others.
They actually filmed this movie on the Blackfeet Reservation and in glaicer national park. I’m on the reservation and I am blackfeet. I live 30 minutes from the mountains and lodge they were at. I was a kid when they filmed and it was a huge thing. I remember hearing family members talking about seeing or meeting Robbin and Cuba. This movie makes me cry every single time. Truly a masterpiece in my opinion. ♥️
I'm an EXTREMELY internally emotional Man. I saw this movie when it first came out. I never had the guts to watch it again. Thats been decades ago. The fact that YOU were watching it meant I absolutely HAD to watch with you. It hurt me way more just now than it did then. But I'm glad we watched it together. Cassie...you are a very special being. Never forget that.
I’m in no way a religious person nor do I believe in any religion yet I find this movie absolutely beautiful. Robin Williams is one of my biggest icons and inspirations, I miss him every day...
Your watch of the film has a special place in my heart. The mother of my child passed July 9th, 2020, during Covid times. This was one of her personal favorite films. I can't wait for your reaction to this. Thanks for offering this Cassie!
I'm so sorry for your loss, Jesus. I hope that you and your kid can be there for each other during these trying times. And I hope that the Lord lays His hands of comfort and healing upon you and guides you on your journey. I'm sending love and mental hugs your way, Jesus Reyes.
Nothing, absolutely nothing, can prepare you for this movie. Not even knowing it by heart. I've watched it dozens of times, and every time, it's a tear festival from the beginning to the end. Great reaction. I think it's the first reaction to this movie I've came across, and it was beautifully done.
For anyone who isn't familiar with the source of the tiitle, it's from the scene in Hamlet where he was contemplating killing himself: "To die, to sleep; to sleep, perchance to dream-ay, there's the rub: for in that sleep of death what dreams may come, when we have shuffled off this mortal coil, must give us pause"
This has always been one of my favorite movies. I lost the love of my life, and never thought I’d lose the pain of losing someone that close. This is the first time I’ve even tried to watch this, and know my Michael is still with me.
I watched this in a Theology/Philosophy class. Has been one of my favorites ever since. I've always enjoyed Robin Williams' more serious movies than his comedies. His comedies are great but he is so underrated by the general population for his dramatic roles.
I'm surprised you your class didn't have your read the book. The movie is amazing, but the book is even better (yeah, I know that is what everyone always says ...).
I am sure EVANGELICALS would have a field day with this movie….. that said , while from a “religious“ perspective , you could say it is “new age”, but in terms of judgement and sin , it doesn’t “tickle ears”.
This movie is based on a book by Richard Matheson. He is one of my favorite authors. Pretty much everything he has written has become a film: I am Legend, Stir of Echoes, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Legend of Hell House, etc. He also was a writer for The Twilight Zone.
"When I was young, I met this beautiful girl...." This movie is such an under appreciated gem. There aren't many movies that just make the eye faucets turn on almost the entire run time, but this is one of those movies. Especially 3 scenes, which if you've seen the movie I'm sure you can guess which 3 scenes those are specifically. Williams acting in this is so good, as is the rest of the cast. Not to mention the incredible art design and cinematography.
As I grow older and ask myself the age old question “why are we here” the answer I have arrived at is “to help each other because it’s just too darned hard to go it alone”. I love this movie. It speaks to my heart.
The acting here is pretty outstanding. But the Art Design is what makes the story believable. My countryman, the Argentinian Eugenio Zanetti, got an Oscar for that. :D
I had forgotten this film. It is a good one. Today this movie hit me pretty hard as a friend of mine recently died. He was my friend for 40 years. He died saving his wife and kids when their boat capsized. He, sadly, did not survive.
This movie made me cry like no tomorrow the first time I saw it and the same for my Mom. This is one of his best movies to include Jumanji, Hook, and Bicentennial Man!
I saw this film when I was in my teenage years, enjoying it just as a interesting film and nothing more. Now that I am older I am better able to appreciate and understand it's message, and most importantly, its reminder of what truly matters in life.

This has always been a special movie to me. I teared up several times even during your reaction video...it's a powerful film! Thank you for your channel.
This movie was so underrated when it first came out. Beautiful, surreal, heartbreaking but with a dash of hope. I've only ever watched it twice and I was a mess both times. I've been avoiding react videos to this but I gave yours a view because of your insights... and maybe because I also needed a good cry. If you haven't seen them yet, I recommend that you watch or react to Phenomenon and Powder. I think those are right up your alley.
OMG, you did it! You reacted to my second-most favorite movie. The story tears at my heartstrings today as it did back then, und Robin Williams was such a great actor and human being. Thank you so much.
Cassie, thank you SO MUCH for sharing the vulnerability these movies bring out in you with us. This is how art was meant to be experienced: communally, where we allow it to act on us in real time with honesty. It takes a lot of bravery even to put ourselves in such a position to begin with, and more to share it. Again, thank you. Also, if you want another powerhouse Robin Williams movie that will leave you breathless at just how brilliant and amazing he is, I highly recommend “One Hour Photo.” That and this movie helped me realize he’s not just the Genie or Mrs. Doubtfire, but a force to be reckoned with. Oh, and “Good Will Hunting.” The scene on the bench alone won him an Oscar.
One of my favorite movies. It gives me hope that such a place exists. Where we see all of those that have gone before and where love is as abundant as air. Oh please, I pray.
This reaction was so beautiful and powerful. As I watched you react I felt what you felt, as well as the intensity of the film. It became like 10 times more intense because of the emotions involved, I couldn't help shed a few tears myself. You are such a beautiful soul, thankyou so much for this -- one of my all-time favorite films. Much respect.
I saw this movie in the theatres when it first came out. I'm a large semi muscular man but this movie made me cry big time. This movie is an emotional roller coaster ride. It's one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. And it teaches us about what it means to be human. Robin was a man of such talent and I really miss him.
I see the hell portrayed in the movie as more symbolic than literal. More of a self-made purgatory. You carry any emotional baggage with you when you leave the physical, and it can be good (and then entering a high plane of consciousness after you leave). Or negative, in which case it's similar to what happened to her in the movie. You can work things out in purgatory, and transcend to higher planes up there without needing assistance from a loved one, but it helps to have that help.
My parents went to see this movie in the theaters. My mom told me that they went to dinner afterwards and she was still sobbing in the restaurant...to the point where people were glaring at my dad, thinking he had harmed her in some way. I don't think she's reacted that way to a movie before or since.
Great reaction!! This movie is very underrated. What dreams may come has always held a dear place in my heart since 6 members of my family died in the late 90s and early 00s. I miss Robin Williams
2:45 The funeral scene was filmed at St Alberts Priory in Oakland, CA. I lived there from 2000-2004 as a novice and student. They redid the tile in that time.
Beautiful reaction. I had seen this movie about 13 years ago myself. I still remember how beautiful yet how full of despair this movie was. I think when a movie can make you feel the way you described there at the end makes that movie art
I have loved this movie since i first saw it....very long ago. Its deeper meanings are touching. Easily one of my fav 5 movies of all time. I am surprised & happy that you watched this. I still tear up at this one & ur reactions are priceless. Thank you!
This movie hits home for me gurl, It was my mom's favorite film & I cried so much during this reaction. Brings back so many good memories watching it with her
I saw this movie when it first came out way back in 1998 when I was in high school. I just watched it again today for the first time in probably 18-20 years. Honestly, I had completely forgotten about this movie and what it was about. My husband very suddenly and unexpectedly passed away almost 4 months ago, so I watched this movie with an ENTIRELY different perspective this time around. It REALLY hit close to home. I think I went through and entire box of tissues while watching it. My husband and I were together for 22 years (married for 20). We first met and started dating when I was only 18 years old and we were rarely ever apart. He was my best friend and soulmate. In the nearly 4 months since he passed away, I haven't had an emotional release like the one I had while watching this movie. I was sitting in a lake of my own tears and snot. This movie turned me into a hot mess, but I needed it. It was actually therapeutic. I've been in such a state of paralyzing shock over my husband's totally unexpected passing that I haven't been able to really even grieve, so this movie really helped me bring my emotions to the surface and have that big release that I so desperately needed. While Robin Williams was primarily known for his brilliant comedic roles, he gave one of the most powerful dramatic performances I've ever seen in this film. I have always loved him and his work. I will definitely be watching this again the next time I feel like I need a good cry.
This movie always ruins me. Regarding the "suicides go to hell" thing in this movie: The point isn't that the universe punishes suicides. It's that suicides punish themselves and can't break out of their own grief and sorrow. It's an interpretation of Hell being a place created by the person in it, just like Christy's heaven was created by him.
Life is what we make of it, death is the end. This movie turns this truth on its head to conform to some christian mythology. Beautiful, but with lingering danger, considering what damages the mind virus Christianity can cause
@@shadesmarerik4112 I'd like to point out, that this movie does not conform to Christianity except in the most general way. It includes concepts like hell is a place of our own choosing, and reincarnation which are part of other religions and belief systems. If all you got out of this was "religion bad", you watched it with a closed heart.
@@shadesmarerik4112 Don’t say that, to you or anyone else. All religions are right about at least a few things. I met a girl in college 20 years ago that insisted I watch this movie. And she became a big part of my life for short while. I think a lot this movie was lost on me at the time being a young, college-aged guy...Now I can't watch it without tearing up.
Robin Williams, not only a great actor but one of a kind. His comedic wit was unparalleled and his dramatic acting was awesome to behold.. I hope he has found the peace he was looking for.
It’s such a beautiful movie. I was working in Glacier National Park in Montana in the summer of 1997 where they were filming this on location. I got to watch them shoot for several days at the location at the beginning of the movie. I got to meet Robin at another location in the park and get a picture with him. It’s a great memory. Glacier is still my favorite National Park.
I had never been a fan of Robin Williams, But this movie was amazing and so was he, I wish he would have done more work like this, I miss him these days.
20:00 He saw his son as his mentor because the relationship between father and son and mentor and student have a different dynamic. He needed to learn from his son, and that would not have been possible if he knew it was his son. That's why he say his son as his teacher. And of course, he couldn't actually see his old teacher as he remembered him could he. So Albert chose a different form, the guide.
I am so glad that I watched, and appreciated this movie when it came out. In talk shows, Robin Williams kind of irritated me because he was too hyper. But as far as his movies, he was an amazing talent. This has always been a favorite of mine. Such a powerful love story. I don't think there could be a greater show of love for someone, than to be willing to go to hell for them.
I watched this movie hundreds of times as a kid with my dad. Who coincidentally was named Robert and many people called gim Robin since childhood. Before Robin Williams was famous. I heard people daily say he rininded them of Robin Williams. He was so silly, comical, inappropriate, and hysterical. Never met someone as funny as him or even almost like him to this day. When i was 17 he took his own life in 2010. Then Robin did years later. This movie will always have a special place in my heart.
What an amazing live interpretation of the afterlife. In the form of an impressionist painting. This is where imagination trumps computer firepower. Yes, it could be made faster today, but you still need the right mind with a vision to come up with this visual masterpiece.
Wow! I had forgotten all about this movie. I saw it in the theater when it first came out and cried like a baby. Robin Williams was a true master. His ability to make you laugh and cry within seconds was remarkable!! R.I.P. Robin.
This is the ultimate love movie, at least for me. Here you can witness the incredible capabilities of Robin Williams as an actor, not just as a comedian. Every time I watch this movie I run out of tears. And I can totally connect to that idea and concept of the afterlife. Even so sad this story was over a long period. However, we get our happy ending. Heart warming
Same! I was literally thinking about this movie for a couple of days ago. Imported the DVD ages ago, and haven't seen it in probably 10 years either. It's one of my all time favorites, but it had slipped my mind for some reason.
Similarly to how O Brother Where Art Thou is a twist on the Ulysses, this is a twist on the ancient myth of Orpheus. These stories endure because they speak to something deep inside us. I’m glad you reacted to this. Your sensitivity is the right lens to see this through.
I watched this movie when I was really young. I didn't understand all of it but it did leave a great impact in me. There're some quotes, some scenes that I still remember vividly until today. I like the title itself too ever since I found out it took from the quote "For in that sleep of death, what dreams may come" from Hamlet
Thanks for this Cas; haven't seen it in awhile (I own the DVD) - visually arresting/beautifully imagined (won justifiably the Oscar for Best Visual Effects). Williams was such an amazingly talented actor and to see him in this brings out all the feels and you miss him all over again. The realities and fantasies blend well and no matter what your beliefs are you delve into this wholeheartedly believing there is even hope in an afterlife. I like to think Heaven is indeed where you reunite with all who you have lost - because if not then what truly is the point of life to have them taken from you to never see ever again? Hugs for you and your reactions; very touching indeed.
The location tag above the title lmao. Also, was not expecting to see this movie anywhere, so when I saw it on your channel I had to watch immediately. This is my personal favorite of Robin Williams' movies. It has so many emotions, both positive and negative, and the delivery is so incredible. He was Mork in Mork and Mindy. That's when I first saw him.
Mork on an episode of Happy Days!
Beautiful country that I was lucky enough to visit recently. Can't imagine what it's like in winter, though...
@@Ellis_Hugh it’s crazy in the winter. But we’re used to it lol
@Jan Smets Really? You reply to people's comments with snark just to be mean?
@Jan Smets Might want to get a life then. Or friends. Pretty sad existence you’re living if this is how you get entertainment.
I just posted something similar. I'm an atheist, but part of me wishes I wasn't, and this film is just beautiful in the way it paints the afterlife.
@Jan Smets You're not being the kind of person that Mister Rogers knew you could be.
This. Exactly. Rite. Here.
I can't fricken believe how well the visual effects still look all these years later.
Your watch of the film has a special place in my heart. The mother of my child passed July 9th, 2020, during Covid times. This was one of her personal favorite films. I can't wait for your reaction to this. Thanks for offering this Cassie!
may the good spirits watch over you and yours
I lost my wife and pup in our car accident a couple years ago and this was one of her favorites as well. So important to remember the good times-
I'm so sorry for your loss, Jesus. I hope that you and your kid can be there for each other during these trying times. And I hope that the Lord lays His hands of comfort and healing upon you and guides you on your journey. I'm sending love and mental hugs your way, Jesus Reyes.
R.I.P. sorry for your loss 😢🙏
I like to think Robin Williams found his own piece of heaven when he passed away. RIP Robin!
Totally agreed!
Well he committed suicide so I guess he went to hell.
For anyone who isn't familiar with the source of the tiitle, it's from the scene in Hamlet where he was contemplating killing himself:
"To die, to sleep; to sleep, perchance to dream-ay, there's the rub: for in that sleep of death what dreams may come, when we have shuffled off this mortal coil, must give us pause"
This has always been one of my favorite movies. I lost the love of my life, and never thought I’d lose the pain of losing someone that close. This is the first time I’ve even tried to watch this, and know my Michael is still with me.
Soulmates are forever 💜
💜💜💜💜
This movie makes me tear up through the whole thing. So beautiful. We miss you Robin.
I watched this in a Theology/Philosophy class. Has been one of my favorites ever since. I've always enjoyed Robin Williams' more serious movies than his comedies. His comedies are great but he is so underrated by the general population for his dramatic roles.
People tend to forget that he was a Juilliard-trained actor, so of course he had the chops.
Robin Williams, the man that can remind you, always, that you have a soul because he can touch it.
What a tender soul you are. People who know you are lucky.
shes my sweet summer child
This movie is based on a book by Richard Matheson. He is one of my favorite authors. Pretty much everything he has written has become a film: I am Legend, Stir of Echoes, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Legend of Hell House, etc. He also was a writer for The Twilight Zone.
He wrote some of the best episodes of TZ. Also he wrote the novel which was adapted into the movie 'Somewhere in Time'.
In my hard times i used to watch this every day, means more than words can say.
THANKYOU Brother Robin!
My absolute number one favourite film I have been unable to watch since the world lost Robin Williams. This is why storytelling was invented!
Datazo que no tenía sobre una de mis pelis favoritas de la niñez, gracias!
I had forgotten this film. It is a good one. Today this movie hit me pretty hard as a friend of mine recently died. He was my friend for 40 years. He died saving his wife and kids when their boat capsized. He, sadly, did not survive.
Oh thats just terrible I'm sure if there is a heaven he's there now
I am so sorry for your loss. That's family right there and it is devastating to lose someone you care about. He died a hero and very much loved.
Sean, He's in heaven just waiting for ya, later, not now, but we all die, it is the story of Life. I hope you're okay.
This movie was both one of the darkest and the most beautiful I've ever seen.❤️
Wow love this movie. One of the best Robin Williams performances. The speech he gives at the funeral is heartbreaking.
Good Will Hunting
Such an absolutely beautiful film... so well done... so artful... so spiritual... Robin I miss you.
Your comment made me tear up. Thought I would have run out of those by now.
There have been quite a few movies that as a teen, I just passed off. Vanilla Sky was another. I fricken love that movie
One of the best films ever made. RW was amazing and CG Jr was great supporting role!
I felt so much in this movie. Number one thing that I took from this beautiful movie is this, always love, always show your love and never give up.
Ahhh. Cassie. Your Patreon subs never fail to take you to the top of the mountain with their choices. This was an amazing movie choice to react to. What an exploration into the afterlife. More questions than answers for sure. THat is what makes this movie great. Nothing is easy to digest but it must be, in order t complete the journey.
Great react. You shed so many tears.
Darn it - It's WAY too early in the week to be crying my eyes out. This is one of my ATF movies, and sharing it with one of my ATF "reactors" was a very special surprise to start my week. Thank you!
Powder, Yes!
Seconded on Powder!
Also watched Powder a couple of times and I loved it.
They filmed this where I live in Glacier Park. I remember when Robin Williams and Cuba Gooding jr. were in town. Such an awesome and emotional movie.
OH! This is an unexpectedly heavy hitter. I remember crying through this one... and The Time Traveler's Wife.
Your reactions are so authentic. Thank you so much for having a kind heart!
It’s hard to pick a favorite but this movie never gets old
My parents went to see this movie in the theaters.
Perfectly said.
@@tayzk5929 How so...?
@@shadesmarerik4112 Don’t say that, to you or anyone else. All religions are right about at least a few things. Science is like learning to write, it’s only a way to better communicate or explain a concept. It serves you no good trust me. Death will be an extremely scary place if you believe death is final. Unless you had a spiritual experience you can not understand. I’m by no means religious but I can’t ignore who created the entire galaxy or universe. You don’t have to pray just the kindest most respectful person person you can be and stay grateful everyday for this precious gift you’ve been given we call life because it can be taken away in a flash. Peace & Love ✌️
Definitely the most interesting film to come out of Hollywood in decades... One of a kind and the most imaginative use of practical effects and artistry I have ever seen committed to film.
This is such an underrated, great movie. Even though I know what's going to happen, I still cry at so many scenes.
Brilliant reaction to a brilliant movie. Thank you, Cassie, for making me cry again.
"May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest, Sweet Prince."
See you someday, Robin.
Slightly off on the quote, but I'll give it to ya because it's a good one and Robin's the MVP.
I feel like this is one Robin Williams' most underrated movies. And it's such a shame because it's so beautiful, imaginative, well acted... just amazing.
Wow, I didn't expect you to walk this journey so soon...this is a hard movie for me to watch, I don't say this often but I truly believe the world became darker without him.
This movie beautifully shatters my heart every time I've seen it, and it's been several years since I last watched it.
I still cried all through this reaction. I love this movie ❤️
I absolutely love this movie, it is SO underrated.
I love this movie. Get all the way to the end before judging it. Rough but a beautiful ending.
This movie hits hard. We lost my stepdaughter 6 years ago at the age of 14 and then my wife two years later.
May they be in a painting just like in this movie.
hang in there buddy, hang in there
I saw this film many years ago at a bad time in my life, and had a very difficult time getting through it.
I hadn't gone anywhere near it since then... Until just now.
I don't know why I thought it would hurt any less 20 years later, but somehow it hurt more.
Still, I have a certain gratitude to you for making me confront that.
oh wow, i've been trying to get reactors to react to this movie for years. Your the first one i've seen do it, and your gonna be balling before the end.
I met a girl in college 20 years ago that insisted I watch this movie. And she became a big part of my life for short while. I think a lot this movie was lost on me at the time being a young, college-aged guy...Now I can't watch it without tearing up.
This movie breaks me every time, but it also put me back together in a much better way 😊❤️
Robin Williams, not only a great actor but one of a kind. His comedic wit was unparalleled and his dramatic acting was awesome to behold.. I hope he has found the peace he was looking for.
As an artist, this movie is amazing! It's sad, yet comforting. A clearly understated masterpiece!
Yeah this is one of my favorites, it’s hard to watch sometimes but I think anyone who has lost someone finds some peace/catharsis after watching it
I had never been a fan of Robin Williams, But this movie was amazing and so was he, I wish he would have done more work like this, I miss him these days.
Such a wonderful and underrated movie. Great Reaction… kind of amazing how well the visuals still hold up too after 23 years 😃
I love this movie... but I can't bring myself to watch it again. My Jennifer passed a few years ago and I feel this in my core.
I'm so sorry for your loss 😢
The scene „it’s not about understanding; it’s about NOT giving up“!!!!
Yay! So glad you're doing this one! One of my favorite Robin movies.
Wow! I had forgotten all about this movie. I saw it in the theater when it first came out and cried like a baby. Robin Williams was a true master. His ability to make you laugh and cry within seconds was remarkable!! R.I.P. Robin.
I highly recommend AWAKENINGS another great Robin Williams gem!
Awakenings is great, very good.
I love this movie. Was just thinking about it the other day. Haven’t seen it in probably 10 years.
I just wrote how i thought about it the other day as well XD
Same! I was literally thinking about this movie for a couple of days ago. Imported the DVD ages ago, and haven't seen it in probably 10 years either. It's one of my all time favorites, but it had slipped my mind for some reason.
You all must be psychic! I haven't thought of this movie for a long time. But I was still delighted when I saw she was reacting to it.
An underrated, underappreciated gem of a movie. Thank you for choosing it.
One of my favourite films! Been a while since I've seen it
Thanks for this Cas; haven't seen it in awhile (I own the DVD) - visually arresting/beautifully imagined (won justifiably the Oscar for Best Visual Effects).
Oh man! I’m excited for this one! It’s one of my very favorite movies and no one reacts to it!
Robin Williams is one of my favorite Comedians/actors. And this is my favorite movie of his. It was so well done and I'm glad you got to enjoy it.
One of my all-time favorite films.
The location tag above the title lmao. Also, was not expecting to see this movie anywhere, so when I saw it on your channel I had to watch immediately. This is my personal favorite of Robin Williams' movies. It has so many emotions, both positive and negative, and the delivery is so incredible. I couldn't recall the specific scenes of the movie, but I vividly remember the emotions it brought out in me when I first watched it when it came out.
Such a great movie! One of my all-time faves!
