I’m liking before you even finish saying tabletop time because this is my jam! Old school chaos, yes please! 😁 One day I’ll get back to my dark angels of the same era… one day…
Didn't expect to see some stripping so early in the week. Anyways... These turned out looking great, love the green finish you got. Spearmint or Green frog legion
It's there in the name! Love your work, the rest of my old models will remain terribly painted, but these raptors were just wasted sitting there with only one painted!
@@narratordave7831 I have heaps of old models that I refuse to strip down, too many memories! I definitely would have done the same thing though, it’s a waste not to do the whole box for sure.
I love these so much, probs my favorite 40k models of all time, not the Sargent though ( if he had a helmeted option, that would be dope ). Last year I bought two of these squads and six loose models ( all metal ) Now I got a 15 man raptor squad with one Sargent spare, And I got all the heavy weapon options. 💪🏻😎🤙🏻💯 Or two 7 man squads for deathguard. SHEEEEEEEEESSSSSHHHHHHH
I was at my dad's the other month and he showed me some old pewter models he found in the attic. My brother and I painted them with him as kids. They were horribly painted, but man it was a nostalgia trip seeing them again. These turned out great! Love the color choice!
Honestly, I understand not wanting to strip models, but personally I think that it is a good thing to strip models, this is because you get to paint the model how it was originally intended and make it look better than what you originally imagined it could be. Of course keeping a record of past paint jobs is important but giving those models new life is an incredibly rewarding experience that many people should enjoy.
Gotta hand it to you, the mod to the special weapons Raptor went pretty damned smooth! I wouldn't be able to pick him out as any different from his fellows on the tabletop.
For the longest time I always thought Dave and Zorpazorp were the same person, and that he just had his own channel and was really good at terrain. Sorry Dave.
Isopropyl Alcohol is safe for stripping plastic and metal models. Soak for an hour, then scrub brush off old paint. Soak again for an hour for stubborn spots. Acetone can be used for metal but will melt plastic. Very cool paint job and nice to see some metals painted up and in play!
I actually really like that converted special weapons Raptor! His posture looks hunched and vampiric, it makes him stand out in a good way, without being unfitting in the unit.
I'm really surprised that TTT didn't get invited to Warhammer World for the Horus Heresy Launch. Maybe GW are salty that the Space Bears are so cool? I'm so used to seeing cats sneaking around in the background of hobby videos, that it took me a moment to realize that the "office cat" was actually Jen's arms. The Raptors are pretty cool. I like the slightly cramped pose on the converted figure, as it echoes the creepy, sneaky vibe of both Alpha Legion and Old Hammer models.
Stripping works in multiple cases .. and I think this was definitely worth it! That model was certainly given its justice!! It was really cool seeing the older paint job and how much improvement has been made! I should honestly stop stripping so many of mine, and just start new with something else when I get it! I did like the purple with the blue, but the pink was a great direction as its much brighter and pops more! There was a lot of love into these old models, and I love to see it! The passion comes through, even if I have no idea about the game or its lore!
The old metal models were so forgiving when it came stripping. I remember fecking up a squad of fire dragons and having to start over. I used some industrial strength stripper that my dad had in the shed. It ate through the plastic container that I had the models in, but it got the paint off nicely.
Not sure if your interested but there are some vendors out there that make that jet pack. You could purchase 5 of them, use a mixture of MK4, and old chaos bits to create the remaining 5. It would be a lot of fun for the converting side of the project. The feet would be a easy conversion depending on how you go about it I think. Now for the heads this might be a bit difficult as I dont think Ive seen similar designs sold. So conversion wise it would be a pretty big task. Maybe utilizing the Dark elf executioners heads mixed with an astartes helm would get you close to the desired look.
I did what your doing only made them 30k Night Lords. They're excellent models. Sit well next to the Night Lords Raptors from forge world. Chopped a couple of heads off for winged helms they look mint. AVE DOMINUS NOX. In midnight clad.
Such cool models, and so cool seeing so many different techniques in one video. Thanks - I love the finished product. I think I preferred the purple to the burgundy though.
i have a plastic tub full of pewter models, most of which are these raptors. I love the jump packs and have used them in multiple conversions. After watching this i kind of want to go back and paint some. If you want more hit me up i would be happy to ship some your way.
What is the electric drill bit tool you use for barrels? I'm sick of manually drilling for magnets etc - and also for plinths for busts. I bought what I thought was a small hand drill from Bunnings, but it ended up being a normal sized drill that won't take 1-2mm drill bits :(
Crippled by the early onset of fighting during the Horus Heresy this squad specializes in snatch and grab lightning attacks. Each member having lost their legs are outfitted by the latest experimentation of the dark mechanicus, adding claws equaly capable of tearing through ceramite as they are at securing documents sought by the legion. It is well known that their leader should have long sense been confined to the dreaded dreadnought chasis, however supplies made that an impossibility. For this reason his missing arms have been replaced with wicked claws and life support systems tear into his visable flesh. Compelled by an indomitable will this sarget staves off death on every day, making the fighting childs play by comparison.
Was that a 'wowstick' drill you used for the barrel? If so, what do you think? I got one recently for a friend but we've yet to have a chance to use it.
Probably not going to happen, but o would love to see these flappy boys go head to head against the Astra Primursa. Hydra Dominatus, and Death to the Carrion Emperor.
Im about to move to a new apartment and I am planning on expanding my painting space. Those drawers/paint racks that are on your desk look like they could be perfect for me. Are they custom built or can you buy them somewhere? Alternatively, does someone know any good place to find similar paint storage?
What drill is that your using? I've been looking for a precision electric drill like that for a while but every time I try, it just comes up with results for screwdrivers instead with no drill bits
i would like to know how the lightning claws for chaos turn out in 10th ed. is any unit other than warp talons that are able to take full lightning claws? terminators? chosen? spacemarine?
This is kind of helpful because I plan on building 3 10 man squads of this unit For my loyalist iron warriors, Cause the general idea is these guys jump over the walls Open any barricades or doors or drawbridges Open the gates Is bike squads come through hit hard hit quick hit fast Tanks come in after Let out legionaires 3 10 man squads Followed by terminators And after them the dreadnoughts aka helbrutes to cleaning up the fortification of traitor Imperial fists lol
Compared to 'Finecast', the super flexible early white Reaper Bones materials and such I love Peweter models - you can with a little work repose them and have it stick in that new position really solidly, even carve details free and bend it to the desired shape, its not so soft to be hard to clean up the flashing and the details in a pewter cast are great are rarely full of airbubbles... Now vs the high quality plastic kits Citadel etc has done I can see the arguments against - but for me that mostly comes down to how top heavy the models can be, and how poorly the fragile details will deal with being dropped - they just don't bounce much...
Man, I remember this look pretty much exclusively from the Fire Warrior game... and those stupid bird noises they made when they came jankily running at you. xD
GW; * doesn't invite tTt to the heresy party *
Dave; * digs out his old Chaos Minis *
"FINE, I'll do it MYSELF!" xD
It’s so cool seeing these old models.
I have never seen this kit before. It's amazing how nice you can make the old pewter models look and they still hold up.
These models really hold up after so much time. The poses are so dynamic and the paint job really brings them to life. Nice one Dave!

mmm, this is my kinda project! Very nicely done :)

Honestly the texture that comes from the figures being cast in pewter gives the armor an unique visual element imo.
Great to see these old raptors brought back to life, I have a set of them in my Black Legion as well as the accompanying Lord.
good lord these sculpts are beautiful. your minis look incredible.

The glamour shots Amazing!!

They turned out great, nice work. These old models really hold up and fit in great for HH.
Gotta hand it to you, the mod to the special weapons Raptor went pretty damned smooth! I wouldn't be able to pick him out as any different from his fellows on the tabletop.
My favorite tTt video to date. Loving these models, the refurbishing, even the background music. Great work!!
For the longest time I always thought Dave and Zorpazorp were the same person, and that he just had his own channel and was really good at terrain.
Sorry Dave.
Australia and New Zealand are close-ish... Crossover when?
Drooling over the bits collection, especially since that isn't all of them.

Agreed, I think its much more menacing!

Superb video Dave, they look great!
OG raptor! So much character so much awesome still hold up super well!
That final Matte finish really brought it all together

David elaborating and expanding on his Horus heresy video when!?!
Please make it happen with the new box set coming out❤️
I never knew that old models could look so good!

I used some industrial strength stripper that my dad had in the shed. It ate through the plastic container that I had the models in, but it got the paint off nicely.
BEST raptor models EVER! Have 20 of them myself and I love them!
These 2nd generation Raptors DESTROY the new ones. They are probably my favorite chaos model ever and one of my favorites in general.
Holy cow those old models are so cool! I especially love the gnarly sergent. Excellent paint job too
I love the older miniatures from the 80s and 90s, it's a real nostalgia kick for me :)

I really like jade stone green as a armour panel colour, especially with those grey/silver trims 👌
They turned out great. Good luck hunting down the missing models you need.
Can't wait to see these boys up against Jen's Sisters of Battle 😁
I’ve got 20-30 of these models I’m about to refit for HH 2.0!
They came out really nice. Great work.
where's the Zorpazorp Tabletop Time collab? would be awesome!
Those Raptors look so cool and really dig the Alpha Legion theme. I have decided to go for Blood Angels for my Heresy era Army.
I did what your doing only made them 30k Night Lords. They're excellent models. Sit well next to the Night Lords Raptors from forge world. Chopped a couple of heads off for winged helms they look mint. AVE DOMINUS NOX. In midnight clad.
Those are fabulous, Dave!!!
These look so amazing, I feel inspired in my own Alpha Legion ventures!
That simple nmm is actually really effective when seen from a reasonable distance!! :)
Those look awesome! Great color choices. I think the one with the face is my favorite.
These Raptors are my favourite of all their iterations. Especially their jump packs.
Such cool models, and so cool seeing so many different techniques in one video. Thanks - I love the finished product. I think I preferred the purple to the burgundy though.
I love the colors you chose. Super dope.

Really love the helmets and claws on these dudes!
Jazza's brother Shad wouldn't be happy that you called the Sergeants monastic scapular a tabard lol.
those came out beautifully
Awesome work Dave!
Getting some serious skeletor vibes from the sergeant and I'm loving in😆
I can't wait for the boxes to be on shelves
Great job. I think I'd have left the tabs on, and cut a slot in the new bases - watching you struggle with gluing and pinning was really frustrating!
Great video! I love the end result.

Great shout-out to Zorpazorp! Would love to see you guys do a proper collab video, or series!!!
Was that a 'wowstick' drill you used for the barrel? If so, what do you think? I got one recently for a friend but we've yet to have a chance to use it.
This guy had these models had these as a CHILD. Crikey I thought he was in his 40s.
Nice. really enjoy your work. hi from Ukraine
Since you’re playing alpha legion in heresy you can take them as night raptors and be able to take all sorts of special weapons
Probably not going to happen, but o would love to see these flappy boys go head to head against the Astra Primursa. Hydra Dominatus, and Death to the Carrion Emperor.
Bless the chaos
I've actually used these models for my nightlords heresy army.
What drill are you using? It seems like it fits nicely in your hands.
You could have kept the plasma gun, and played them as Night Raptors using the Rewards of Treason from the Coils of the Hydra Rite of War.
Is the second iteration of the chaos raptors? I think I had the first with those awful winged jump packs. Squad looking good!
Watching my dad assemble and paint these guys in 2007 was cool
Please custom the Joytoy x Warhammer figures!
Is that an electric pin vise for drilling barrels? Where can I get one from?
Not gonna lie, i liked the purple on the tabard waaaaaaay better. Models look really great tho!

Hey, this was my first squad, too!
Those raptors are awesome! It's a shame your not allowed to use em in 40k. Same as all the other things that AREN'T in the new books!
I like how the chaos jumppacks have melta guns
those are so coooooooool! I just bought a set of those!
Never been a fan of working with the pewter models myself...but hey, you did a great job with these!
Please make more vids like this plsssssssss👌😁
PS: Still my favorite jet packs. I think they are hands down better than what they make now.
Very sons of horusy-green. I quite like it. :)
Very nice paintjob. I like that they have a Sons of Horus kinda green. Very Alpha legion to blend in hehehe
No way! My first ever model kit was chaos raptors/warp talons.
Man, I remember this look pretty much exclusively from the Fire Warrior game...
and those stupid bird noises they made when they came jankily running at you. xD
Very Sons of Horus green... Niiiice
Dave how long did it take to paint them all? Awesome job love the colouring detail.
Will you buy the starter box?
What did you use to strip the raptor?
Question to Dave :) Have you played Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter Nights? If yes, tell us a bit about your experience please!
These old Raptors look sooooo much cooler than the current models. I have a resin set myself, sadly the casting sucks and they're pretty wonky.
Why do these 20 year old models look so much cooler then new ones
Cool! Thanks!
Given your expanding blender skills would you try to replicate the out of production style of miniature and print them off yourself?
What you had originally is more violet and you moved towards true purple 😉
That drill :O does anyone know what brand it is?
