    Today I show you how to change your oil via an oil extraction pump rather than draining both the pan and cooler from the bottom. This is the methods most dealers and shops will use, however, it should be mentioned that this method does not work for ALL engines. I can confirm it works for the M156, but be sure to check on other engines. Some modern engines don't even have dipsticks (such as my BMW N54), so this method would not work on those. ‪@AccentOnCars‬ has a more detailed video on his channel of oil extraction on an M156, so if this video wasn't enough, be sure to check out his content as well!
    Some general concerns with oil extraction is that it will leave debris at the bottom of the pan. From what trained professionals tell me, whatever debris there is should get picked up by the filter regardless. However, I will likely still drain from the bottom every few oil changes just to be sure. Extraction is far more convenient, and allows me to quickly get new oil changes done more frequently, especially when I lack time.

    I tried this on my first oil change with the car and it would just suck air. Couple folks on the forums said you needed a fitting that made a seal on the dipstick opening. Haven’t tried that yet though since it’s only been 2000 miles lol. Thinking maybe I just didn’t have the hose far enough down. I use the extraction method on my GTI all the time.
    Love your videos man, everything is explained thoroughly and straight to the point. Cheers!

      Yep, my first time trying this with my ML63 took me a second to figure it out but I really had to shove it down to the bottom. I realized that using that tube to plug the other vent hole also added some extra suction. Whatever it was, judging by how much I got out I would say I'm in the clear. Glad my vids have helped, and hopefully ur next attempt works out better!

    Nice video. I've been using this method on mine lately, def easier and cleaner. Thought the amount was 8.5 liters including filter though. Overfill can be hard on some seals.

      This is just what I end up with after filling to the max line on the dipstick as technicians have told me to do. It probably helps that the engine was quite warm, did this immediately after driving it. I have a feeling my 5L containers aren’t exactly 9.5 haha. Total volume with the oil cooler is 9.2-9.7 depending on model

    Not all of the oil came out - only managed 6 or so quarts and that’s with the plastic tube all the way at the bottom. Had to lift the car and do a traditional oil change to get the remaining oil out. Helpful video nonetheless.

      Interesting, might want to find a tube that allows the pump to work effectively via vacuum. Its been able to get all 9.5-10L out in my cars

      What’s strange is I have the same extractor as yours - are you using the tube it came with?

    How do you pour the oil out from the pump reservoir, say, into the empty oil bottles if you wanted to?

    • @SamAbraham
      @SamAbraham  6 місяців тому

      The top of it unscrews, it would be pretty cumbersome to pour it some oil bottles just because of how large the canister is, but I suppose its possible with a wide funnel

      I use the Mitivac 7201 model (I think?). I like that one because it can both evacuate and dispense. So basically I suck out what's in the pan, refill the engine with fresh oil and use the dispensing function on the Mitvac to transfer the used oil into the now empty bottles. No funnel, and no mess (Make sure you stop the flow before the bottle is full though. Ask me how I know...)

      @@BalanBro2 That’s pretty cool, I dig that

    But this method doesnt drain the oil cooler correct?

    • @SamAbraham
      @SamAbraham  11 місяців тому +2

      Still does via vacuum, the amount I get out and am able to fill tells me I get all of it out 👍

    I didn't catch the socket required to unscrew the filter cap... useful video - thank you.

    Thank you for great content Sam! I did the power steering flush after watching your video on my 2014 c63!
    Also curious, have you had “check your engine oil level at next refuel” ever come up? I changed out the oil level sensor and it’s popping back up even though the dip stick is showing at correct level.

      @SamAbraham  11 місяців тому

      I don’t get it frequently on my C63 but it’s super normal for M156s to burn a quart every so often depending on usage. However if the dipstick is still showing its full and you have a new sensor, I’d suspect it’s an electrical issue with the sensor or further up

    Great video, more people should be doing this! I've been doing this for a few years now! More Convenient, Less Dirty, & Way Safer!

      Yep and when we’re doing 3-5k mile oil changes there’s really nothing better
