I Tried Cleaning Up The Streets of New York | Lucie Fink

- Garbage girl Lucie to the rescue! Cleaning trash in NYC! You would not believe what the streets in NYC can look like sometimes... the waste scattered around the NYC streets can be a bit overwhelming at times, which is why I took it upon myself to clean the streets of New York City and pick up trash! I try to live a low-impact lifestyle in as many ways as possible, and I am all about trying new things… so I knew I wanted to try some environmental activism and try collecting garbage off the streets of NYC. As we all know, pollution and PLASTIC are major global issues. The plastic scattered on the streets and the plastic bottles / plastic straws in our oceans are NOT GOOD! The environment (and the entire planet) needs our help... it needs YOUR help!
I am constantly thinking of how to help our environment. Whether that's by collecting trash in my neighborhood or city, recycling and making sure my garbage collection is separated, living a zero waste lifestyle (I'm not 100% there yet, but I'm close), making zero waste swaps in my everyday life, going plastic free and using no plastic outside or inside my home, or living sustainably and making sustainable swaps when it comes to household products... the list goes on and on. All of these seemingly small actions can make a huge difference!
Low impact living is not as difficult as it may seem, but if you really want to challenge yourself, make a challenge video trying zero waste living and send it over to me! Also let me know if you want me to make any videos about how to be more eco-friendly / environmentally friendly, what clean products I use, zero waste tips / zero waste for beginners tutorials, how to reduce plastic, and SO MUCH more when it comes to the low impact movement.
Watch my video to see how much trash I was able to collect with one friend on the streets of NYC in just a few hours. If everyone today could please pick up at least 5 pieces of garbage they find outside, it would make me a very happy human, and would make our earth so much cleaner!

I have a neighbor who goes for a run out X number of miles and puts a bag in his pocket, then he walks back and collects trash. He's kind of my hero.
you should make this a little program that people can sign up for- a nyc summer meetup picking up trash with lucy!
LOVE THIS!!! I was thinking of doing a meet & greet and doing this :)
Oh my gosh, YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! :D That's what I was thinking. The meet and greet could be totally free, I could just have a big team of people playing games, saying hi to you and getting a couple hugs, and go scavenging for trash in New York. And then if people don't live in New York, they could just donate a little bit of money do a charity or something, and you could send them a personalized video saying hi and thank you? I don't know how many people would respond to this oh, so I don't know how much work it would be for you, I feel like we could get you a lot of help in organizing it, and it could really make a big difference!!!!!!!!!!! :D It sounds super fun anyway. Also, I just want to say I love you, thank you so much for everything you do, you're a huge inspiration to us all. I love you so much!!!!!!!!!!! You are a beautiful and positive influence in your community. :D 💚🌺✨
Lucie is here to give another good message and make a different and inspire others to to do better. Thanks for doing it Lucie
Aww thank you so much for watching!
She's such an inspiration and so humble!!
I love your idea about partnering with an artist to create an art installation with the recyclable trash. Also your idea on donating the money from the recyclable trash to environmental centres. They’re both great ideas and hope we could see them in the future!
Snowbella thank you!!!😀😀😀😀
Suggestion to @Lucie: reach out to the people who organized the pop-up Arcadia Earth in NYC; they invited a bunch of NYC-based artists to create art installations using trash and I'm sure they would love to partner with you :)

Can’t WAIT for part 2!
I live in a drastically smaller city than NYC, but when my partner and I did this in our community, we found the SAME AMOUNT and also were thanked by 3 individuals!
Just because only 3 people stepped out of the NYC hustle and bustle to thank you doesn’t mean you didn’t get countless others thinking when they saw what you were up to. 🌎
Yes, absolutely!!!!!!!!!!! That's such a good point!!!! :D 💚🌺✨
Hey Lucy! I didn’t know paper receipts weren’t recycling. What about a video telling us what garbage goes on which bin.
I'll need my assistant to help me with that one, but that's a great idea :)
Lucie Fink that would be great! Let me know if you need any help with research. I have a lot of questions when it comes to recycling.
Yes please!!! I have a hard time knowing what and how to recycle. A video on this will be great!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
@@gianninaescobar7626 wastelandrebel.com/en/why-you-shouldnt-recycle-receipts/ just found this!
this is different depending on the city so it's definitely hard to do a video 😢 for example, in my city the blue recycling bags (as well as grocery bags) aren't actually accepted in recycling but everyone uses them to put out their recycling anyway
The world needs a lot more like you!
agreed
It’s just amazing how people care about our planet. The most people walk right by all of the trash without even thinking about the trash we produce. Thank u Lucie for your kindness, and saving the ocean and New York❤️
awww, thank you so much. I want to inspire millions to make small changes!
Thank you Lucie for getting the word out! It's nice to see people actually act instead of just talk. :)
aww
One of the best episodes yet.
Earlier this year, a bunch of us decided to Adopt a road, in which we picked up a lot of trash! I definitely agree it was a great bonding experience and it didn't feel like we were actually working. Can't wait to see the other part!! 🙃
love this!!!
Wow! This can be done anywhere! Every neighborhood in the US needs some help!
Such a inspiring idea! I want to do that with a friend soon! ☺️
DO IT DO IT!
Amazing. We got to keep the city clean. Everyone can contribute to making our streets cleaner. Subway stations too.
I watched some guy dump his fast food trash out his car window at a traffic light, agreed mind blown.
ugh.
Wow! 😳 that’s crazy!
Who else thinks Lucy is a sweetheart!?
You are a hero Lucie! Thank you for doing that❤️
What a fantastic inspiration you are! Yes, Please! Do what Lucie says & make *your world* more beautiful!
thank you for being here!!
Wow thanks for doing that 💕👌
Lucie, I wish I was as positive and happy as you! I absolutely love your vibe...
I bet you are!!!!! :D Just the fact that you want to be shows how much you can be, and are!!!!!! :D 💚🌺✨
@@jennapatchkeady That's so sweet of you to say! 😄❤️
Your such an inspiring and excellent human being. Keep being you and literally your like my hero. 😘
This is so important and incredibly inspiring.
Hey Lucie!!!!!!!!!!! :D 💚🌺✨ First off, I just want to say I love you, thank you so much for everything you do, you're a huge inspiration to us all. Secondly, what if you did something like a meet and greet but instead of having a traditional meet and greet, everybody just went around New York and cleaned up trash for like 4 hours? The meet and greet could be totally free, you could just have a big team of people playing games, saying hi to you and getting a couple hugs, and going scavenging for trash in New York. And then if people don't live in New York, they could just donate a little bit of money to a charity or something, and you could send them a personalized video saying hi and thank you? I don't know how many people would respond to this, so I don't know how much work it would be for you, I feel like we could get you a lot of help in organizing it, and it could really make a big difference!!!!!!!!!!! :D It sounds super fun anyway. Thanks again so much for everything you do oh, I love you so much!!!!!!!!!!! You are a beautiful and positive influence in your community. :D 💚🌺✨
Great video! Very talented and creative UA-camr and also involved ... big applauds for Lucie please :D
I love how happy you are in all your videos!
hehe hoping to spread the love!!!
I pick up trash every single day around my neighborhood even in winter in new york (i am a kid :)) Love this and all of your videos lucy
This is fantastic!! Every little bit makes a big difference! 😍
agreed
I love this video so interesting
I went to my local beach with the aim of collecting seaweed for the garden.. instead picked up rope, small bottle lids, plastic pieces, fishing net - enough to fill a 30L bin bag in half an hour. I had two men walking dogs ask if i was collecting prawns, shells, etc and were shocked to see the contents of the bin bag :(
Every little helps!
Also, in the UK there's a Cornwall based movement called #2minutebeachclean who are worth checking out!
RSMD 96 wow! Thank you for doing that.
@@luciebfink And you for your collecting effort in this video! With such a large platform I can only hope your influence will bring about plenty of positive change in viewers behaviours 😊
You are a living goddess 😍. I also go for beach cleanups on Sundays.
Nidhi Sinha aww you’re so great.
Thank you so much for doing this!! Your videos never disappoint!
That's awesome, Lucie! I bet you could do a meet up/event out of this and get a whole bunch of your viewers to help!
YES - my dream!
Yes please!!!!! :D 💚🌺✨ Also, I love you so much, thank you for everything you do!!!!!!
I always thought that if a person or persons just picked up the trash in front of their home and businesses, it would clean the neighborhood with very little effort on any one person and would take hardly any time. I am picking up blown trash in front of my house everyday and I have neighbor's who have no pride for their own property that they paid hundreds of thousands to own. My children have been raised not to litter! Great job Lucie and friends.
SO true!
That's a great point, and a good idea!!!!! :D X,D Haha, nice job raisin' those kids not to litter!!!! :D ✊ I think if we implemented educational programs in schools about composting, and recycling, and all that stuff, we would be in easily fantastic shape!!!!!! :D This isn't something children come out doing, littering is a learned behavior. But proactive steps to fix environmental problems are sometimes also a learned behavior. :D 💚🌺✨
I think doing a trash pick up is a wonderful idea! Maybe if you went to a school to see if they would want to help and you could give them the school cash (schools in Tennessee do it, I think it’s called a rewards school. Mine did the tabs on cans and box tops in elementary school). I think it would be a great educational experience and good for the environment!
I love that y’all did this!!!! It’s so great! xx
I live near Brighton Beach (Brooklyn) and spent some time in the summer going on clean-the-beach walks. I'd be totally down for any trash-collecting events in NY!
Nice!
Good job I got lots of passion picking up trash,I do it almost every day.
Nice! Thanks you
Thank you. I clean up the trash in front of our area. Yes, my little contribution to my community.
So awesome Lucie! Don't forget that things can't be recycled if they are soiled or are not completely rinsed out.
Awesome! Great work! I appreciate your work for your community!
You are so inspiring!
THANK YOU!
Fantastic video!
Thanks for watching!
What your doing is dangerous but I appreciate what your doing I used to go out around my hood picking up trash around the library and people who lived in the area really appreciated this and would thank me
This video further motivates me to start doing this here in Queens. Thank you!
More of this :)
ya!
Be careful out there - this is NYC! Watch out for needles! Use thick contractor grade garbage bags. Theres plenty of nickels for every bottle and can you find. Also if you find any metal bring them to the scrapyard for $$
James K thank ya! Great tips!
So important, and so wonderful, thanks so much that's good advice!!!!!!!!!!! :D 💚🌺✨
Great job, I am planning to start doing this in my city. Did it once, now want to continue in different streets.
The U.K. is just the same,it drives me mad litter and trash everywhere.
Maybe the next time you pick up trash could be after there are a lot of people out on the streets (ex- New Year’s Eve) and see how much (presumably more) trash you collect!
such a good idea. the streets get so filthy after those types of events!
Perhaps you could go to city council and have them pass stricter ordinances that would make littering illegal with stiff fines.
would be helpful too
I go on a walk outside at least once a week (I'd go more often but I try to stay inside more now with covid) to clean up trash. I have not been on a single walk without at least one person thanking me
My neighbourhood isnt quite as bad as yours, I would be able to fill maybe one or two of those big trashbags on my 4 km walk? I was able to get a roll of free trashbags but theyre really really small. I didn't even walk 200m and the first bag was already stuffed (and then it even tore 😭)
Love this!!
Start a community litter picking group! Thanks for doing your part .😊
YEEEES! there is garbage everywhere lately. It makes me so sad. What is happening to the world?!
Thank you 🙏I do this everyday at the school playground I'm surprised the teachers aren't teaching these kids to clean up after themselves so frustrating
Preach!!!!!!!!!!! :D 💚🌺✨ Great job!!!! I'm so proud and impressed that you're being so proactive in taking steps to clean up your school!!!!!!! :D 👍 The teachers really should be teaching the kids to clean up more, what level school do you go to, like elementry, middle, high, college? Thanks for being wonderful, and magical!!!! :D 💚🌺✨
Omg Lucie this colour of your shirt suits you so well🥰.... you look so pretty ☺️, greetings from Switzerland
Yup. My hometown. Shocked is right.--and saddened. I get huge bags of trash just from my own immediate neighborhood.
Wow what a great place to be bossing around!
Lucie ROCKS.
With this channel, you are doing more than Diblazio did as mayor to improve the appearance of the city.
It's insane to see how some people are so nasty to throw the garbage on the streets and city authorities not doing their job.
That little plastic rhino is one half of a capsule that contains a male enhancement product. I guess you can keep it if you want to.....lol
HAHAHAH
Love u girl keep being u
Thank you - YOU TOO!
I love you sooo much!!!
AW
How about a video how to organize an event to get others to help out from planning, contacting local auth. for help with bags/tools, promoting a meetup to clean a designated area from start to finish for those who want to do this locally as well.
Very nice. Cleaning up trash also improves community health and leads to less grumpy people. Like honestly you don’t live in a trashy living room outside is the same lol. The plastic isn’t really recyclable because doing so isn’t profitable and leads to more pollution so making those into an art piece would be cool.
I clean up my condo complex. Especially the front entrance area. There is always garbage that either gets thrown onto the lawn by people walking by or by people driving by. I feel the same way, I can't believe the amount of people that have no problem littering. It is infuriating.
good job for helping the 🌎 with trash
Amazing work im also planning to do this in my city !! (Netherlands)
imagine getting a whole borough to do this
Oh my gosh yesssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!! Exactly!!!! :D 💚🌺✨
that needs to happen and would be amazing
Molto brava! 😃👍👍👍
Ur awesome! It amazes me that people have so little respect to the ecosystem that is the very reason for their existence. People who litter disgust me and its no exaggeration or overreaction to say that they are a waste of oxygen and do not deserve to live. It is a fact. Its completely backwards and crazy to treat nature with such disrespect. And so i am very glad there are people like u, setting a good example. I know this video is kinda old and im late to comment but keep it up, keep planting them seeds in peoples head. Earth knows we need it if we want to turn this evil around and make the planet healthy again.
this is great
This problem is related to the fact that you have to pay a lot of money to get clean streets, and since customers and the state do not want to do this, chaos often reigns on them!
I see SO MANY people littering and it’s always less than a football field walk away from a trash bin. WHY PEOPLE WHY
I am completely guilty of being ignorant and littering...My perspective and lifestyle is completely changed now and I spend my breaks/lunch from work or any time I have on the weekend, taking a walk and picking up a bag worth of garbage 🌍🌍🌍
One time I was walking home from the train and I was getting so mad about all the trash and a plastic bag blew my way. I took it as a sign and started picking up trash. It was full before I got home and now I always keep a bag and a glove in my bag for trash I see.
Nice!
Why aren’t receipts recyclable?
wastelandrebel.com/en/why-you-shouldnt-recycle-receipts/
@@luciebfink thanks!
Does NYC have a clean street program
sort of I think? Its probably mainly Manhattan though if anything.
America needs to pay workers to pick up the trash and people need to use their energy to do a kind deed for the less fortunate such as homeless people who did not put all that trash on the streets but it was people that wear fancy expensive clothes and act like homeless people are beneath them.
I'm currently dogsitting and when I was walking her saw a bunch of trash but convieniantly also a bag so i took it all with me. I even found a saddle of a bike and a money box?!
Oh no!!!!!!!!!!! :D X,D DX I hope that person who left it is ok!!!! Did it have any information in it you could post somewhere nearby? 💚🌺✨
Also, that's awesome you cleaned up!!!!! :D 💚🌺✨
I do this too in new jersey..
I wonder if you could crowd source fund this for different cities
Omg you responded
I’ve been picking up trash in St Paul, Minnesota. We pay enough tax for this to get picked up. What happened to community service or prisoners that use to pick up the trash?
Im a fan
I couldn't believe the amount of trash I seen piled up in Mahattan so close to the ocean stop littering
You should do give to an art mesuem or an art school
Hi. Where is your backpack from
Dagne Dover :)
👍🏼 also thanks for making videos that make it "cool" to contribute towards a better community and environment. I volunteer and spend time with people who are facing homelessness. ✌🏼 Be kind.
In Oregon if you litter other people turn you in and you get a ticket for $5,000.00
If you lived in a state that paid for aluminum cans you’d make a few dollars like they do in Oregon you used to see homeless people picking up cans and bottles to make a living
Also, people go outside more in spring and summer so there would be more trash.
My school is very clean but up agiants the fence there is a lot of trash wich meens that people Chuck Rubish over th school fence
Thank you for doing this. It's amazing to see someone with influence be aware, change their habits but also admit they are not perfect and telling about this matter to others ! I feel like most of the time people talks about their change toward the environment but it's just for the show. So thank you!
aww thank you! I absolutely still have miles to go, but I'm learning and growing every day and I hope I inspire others to make small, simple changes :)
100%
Receipts are recyclable by the way!!!!

New York City is one of the richest town in the world and they need to hire some people to keep the city clean
Beautiful eyes
Thank you for doing this Lucie + friend! I want to do this in the springtime as well (I live in NY too so the temps can be painful for doing any outdoor activities like picking up trash and recyclables).
One suggestion for the trash is to make ecobricks (filling plastic bottles with trash that can be repurposed for building stuff)!
Love what you are doing, and because you have such a large community I encourage you to have a call to action for all of us on your social media platforms on days we can all do this together. For those of us living in NYC I'd love if we could plan an event as a group and take on the streets of the city for a couple hours together :)
LMK your thoughts!

Where's there's trash there's aluminum cans to bag up 💵💵💵💵💵💲💲💲💪😃
You make me so nervous I wanna squeeze your hand
