The dent in the stock is the result of using parallel jaws, you really must get a pattern makers angle jaw vice. You may be a bit tight on your trigger plate, the wood will move over time which can cause cracking of the stock, not sure how dry these stock blanks are. The screw hole n top of the butt plate is absolutely perfect, it means that when you draw the screw up it will force the butt plate up against the stock leaving no gap. Chris B.
Well Pete finally!!! Come on man get into it. Keep it going. Don’t worry about that dent, you’ll probably be able to file it back and blend it in after you fit the Lock.
Finally pulled the trigger on a Kibler. Arrived yesterday. I have tomorrow off so I'll be starting to work on it then. Just have to decide if I want to try my hand at any basic carving. Hope you're doing well.
Hi Steven! I’m doing fine as I hope you and yours are also. Never enough hours in the day for me between work and projects. I’m planning to get a lot more done as fall rolls in. Thanks for your patience and stay tuned!
Could you use some steam to get that dent out or maybe minimize it?, i have used that trick on small dents and marks in wood working projects, just an idea.
I'm waiting on my Colonial to come in right now think I have about all the tools I need but I'm definitely going to check out those rubber blocks from midway.... Awesome to see yours coming along can't wait to start on mine.
Thanks for watching Jason! You are going to love that rifle.. it’s the best of all parts wrapped up in excellent engineering. At the rate I’m going you will be done with your rifle before me.. stay in touch as you build I’d like to hear about your progress.
@@completepete I definitely will keep in touch... I'm going to try my hand at doing some relief carving on it so I'm nervous and excited about that and with my work schedule I may be at it for a few months lol
Carving sounds great.. I think Jim has a carving kit but it may be a bit pricey. A piece of maple board from the lumber yard might be an easy solution for a practice surface. Take your time and enjoy the process!
@@completepete Good idea thx. I'll have to see what I can find Jim hasn't had them in stock for a while and to buy a stock blank to practice on is pricey I have looked.
Just finished up my Kibler went pretty good the only issue I ran into was with the ramrod and ramrod entry pipe. I really had to file the ramrod and tip a lot more than I thought I would need to.
Pete as a flintlock builder some advice for you. You don't want a tight fit inlet for trigger plate. The stock expands and contracts and will crack over time. Also behind the tang on top inlet it out just a hair and put bees wax in it. It will chip out there as well
Thanks Blake, that sounds like good advice and I’m going to take a closer look at the fit in those areas. Thanks for reaching out and sharing this tip..
Hey Pete! About to dive into my first Flintlock build, decided to go with Kibler as well. Curious if you have tried the stain yet? If so, did you end up going with the tannic acid to make it darker? Thanks!
I have not gotten to that point yet, Hoping to get back to it this winter! Jim sent me a couple pieces of scrap maple to practice staining on. I’d suppose a piece of maple from Home Depot could also provide some good practice pieces. Good luck with your project..
@completepete Hi Pete, hope to see you working on the rifle again soon! Watching more of the process and eventually seeing your enjoyment of the completed item will be great. Be well.
@45calibermedic I’m planning to get back to it this winter. Of course there is never enough time to get the “want to do’s” done. Thanks for checking in!
Hi Anthony! It must look great.. I’m still finding time here and there to work on my rifle. You are getting close to the finish line for sure.. let me know how you make out with the stock. I might like to compare notes.
Hi Anthony! Unfortunately pushed to the back of the bench. I was looking it over this weekend and thinking about getting started again. Something always seems to take precedence over my fun projects.
Happy New Year Anthony! I’m still trying to catch up with my regular work, but at least the top of my work bench is cleared off. How did you make out with your carving project?

I am doing well, thanks for asking! Happy to hear you ordered your rifle.. Stay in touch and let me know how the build is going!
Pete! What happened??? You ok?? Did you ever get back to the Rifle?
Hey Pete, how are you? Happy New Year! Hey send that colonial to me and I’ll finish it for you.
Hoping this finds you well! I'm ready to see how this project is going.

Thanks Andy.. I did try steam using a damp rag and an iron without any success. I might give it another try..
Thank you for sharing. Looking good Pete.👍👀
Thanks so much! I’m getting there as time allows.

Pete! What going on? Just finished my.54 colonial rifle I got a week and a half ago. Have to sand the stock and polish the brass.

Pete u have an email address? I’ll send a couple of picks. If you have any questions let me know
Sure do Anthony.. Completpete6@gmail.com
I’ll take you up on that offer!
That’s weird wasn’t able to send to an email. Bounced back
Anthony, apologies - the email is completepete6@gmail.com
I missed the last “e” in complete
I’d love to see more of this
Did you complete the rifle?
I'm guessing that we'll never know.
Planning to get back to it over the winter!
Pete what ever happened to your Kibler build???
Hi Anthony! Unfortunately pushed to the back of the bench. I was looking it over this weekend and thinking about getting started again. Something always seems to take precedence over my fun projects.
Ok well keep me posted! I just received and put together the Woodsmen Rifle, now I got busy at work 😮 thinking about a little carving but we’ll see.
I will keep you posted! Stay in touch for sure. Hopefully your progress will get me inspired to make some time to get back to work!
@@completepete where are you???
Happy New Year Anthony! I’m still trying to catch up with my regular work, but at least the top of my work bench is cleared off. How did you make out with your carving project?
That is not a dent in your stock. My stock is the same. So are Jim’s. Check out his videos.
Hey Russ.. unfortunately it’s a nice dent caused by me over tightening my vise. I may be able to sand it out a bit hopefully
@@completepete that dent is for the Hammer when it comes down
