      Actually Andy started off playing jazz in his teens, then went into rock during the 60's as well as studying classical guitar for 3 years. It was his combination of all these genres that made the Police sound. He took Sting's songs and added his unique style of guitar playing and the rest is history

    • @mancuniancandidatem
      @mancuniancandidatem Місяць тому +1

      It's possible without the internet non of this would be remembered anymore. All the VHS machines are broken, the cd players are broken, damn, even iPods are no more. My friends in the 90s would mock me for still listening to The Police. It was hell.
      Grunge, Acid House, Jungle, Garage, Rap, Acid Jazz, Brit Pop. Friggin horrible decade.
      The first few years of the internet were great. I think it's more, cell phones and the way the internet has been manipulated that is more of a problem.
      There was a brief period where broadband was fast enough to play UA-cam videos and there was no advertising. I think that was before Google purchased UA-cam.
      I actually had hope in the initial years of the internet but it's been so corrupted by big businesses and algorithms that it's basically become toilet TV.

    This is a neat song. I can't say Andy Summers is THE greatest guitarist, but... What I consider the mark of a great guitar player is how they can bond what they compose into a song to make it unique to that song, and no other. When you hear the first few bars, you know immediately what song it is. He does a great job. Songs like "Mississippi Queen," "Gimmie Three Steps," "Layla," and others have the same trait. That's why Vai, Malmsteen, Satriani, and Wylde never have huge hits. They don't bond.

    Awesome. Andy's original sound and technique is legendary. Stewart, sporting the jazz-grip for snare. He always does this, but you never see "rock drummers" do this...ever. Obviously shows a sign of a percussionist and not just a time-keeper.

      because he doesn't 'keep' the time - he floats along with the inherent time that all real musicians feel

      @@jamesha175 A good musician can play out of time while still feeling the time. Leaves a lot of room to improvise. I dont like Jazz but I love the concept.

    @chany4101 Yes! +1.....Learning Dave Matthews' rhythm style gave me such amazing dexterity w/ all four fret hand fingers. It also taught me some really weird new movable shapes. There is practically no chord too challenging even during fast changes since studying Dave's catalog.
    This song is haunting, mostly due to the shade the guitar lines lend it. Summers is a master at these types of rhythmic arpeggios. Many people have borrowed his style, mostly because it is worth borrowing.
