I just started bowling about 2 weeks ago. I'm completely hooked, and have been watching your videos to help out. Keep 'em coming! Especially for us 45 year old beginners. There's a bunch of us out there.
Im right with you. My wife died last year and I needed hobbies and Golf was seasonal so I just started bowling too. I did hit my first game over 200 (217) so I am hooked too
Keep it up... I've been bowling since I was 5 ND now I'm 32 I took about a 12 year break from the military but I got back into it 6 months ago . Now my goal is to win another tournament like I did right before the military and maybe go higher who knows .. I have a pba dude named Phil doing lessons 2 times a week . Just to improve
I absolutely love this channel! I am a novice bowler that has been stuck in the low 100's range with house balls. I bought my very first personal ball yesterday (drilled fingertip) and although it was SUPER uncomfortable at first, after a few games I threw my highest score of 166! I am super excited to get some more practice and see higher scores! These videos have definitely been a huge help
Listening to Randy Pederson and Rob Stone talking about your guys’ success on UA-cam while watching Blanchard and Malott - priceless. Go Brad and Go Kyle!
from an old guy....30-mumble years ago one thing i used to encounter in my shop with players who wanted to get more on the ball... aka increased revs...most were not properly fit. Often so badly it forced all manner of unconscious changes in hand position just to get out of the ball, thus killing and chance of doing much rev wise. Moving them to a position in the ball via proper fit for them led to a cleaner, and, at first, a very weird feeling. Proper fit is so key. Not only to give a player the freedom to change or improve but also to help them have fun and have a longer "career". Every time i see a player tearing up their thumb it like a neon sign they need to be re-fit. I think we lost a lot of frustrated players to this part of the game. If you covered this in an earlier video... oops! I haven't been apart of things for a couple decades but have friends who are actually excited to bowl every week. What a great thing to see. Love your videos here and watching you young'uns play these new conditions with real understanding... but its still stand left throw right cash check...gotta love it but my new hip not so much, had to be my slide leg too. d'oh! Keep teaching and showing how much live you have for the sport!
THIS is the motion i have been looking for! ive been practicing this yoyo release but ive been doing it by hitting up on the ball instead of uncoiling at the bottom of the swing, like this video shoes. i have been swinging my arm like a pendulum this whole time and i see now that you actually have to have a little cup in your elbow and wrist (not just wrist) to deliver the ball down, into the lane. this makes so much more sense! please do more on this if you can! that side view of the release was perfect! thank you thank you thank you
I’m so excited to watch this when I get out of school, just got the notif and I’ve been needing a video on this since I’ve took a break from bowling for track season. It’s abt time for me to Get my bowling game back on track, I’ve always struggled with my rev rate. Thanks guys!!!
I haven’t watched instructional bowling videos before so I was just trying to emulate what I thought I was seeing, and without slow motion and an explanation, I was getting it wrong. In my 30’s, I managed to get my average up to about 180, but I had to stop bowling for over 30 years, due to a car accident, which required two back surgeries and confined me to a wheelchair for a short period of time. Now, at the age of 67, I decided to start bowling again, because I needed to increase my exercise. I’m enjoying it so much, I joined 3 leagues and bowl Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights, but might need to quit the Friday night team, so I don’t wear myself out. I can’t wait to get to the bowling alley to practice the release tips from this video.
Another great video. Just wanted to say thanks. I have been bowling just over a year and watching you guys has helped my game improve so much in this first year. I am always looking forward to the notifications telling me there is a new video from you guys. Keep up the great work and good luck in the playoffs!! I know we will see you back in there Brad. Looking forward to seeing you guys in the league play.
Awesome follow up video that you did a few months ago. I think the distinction between using only the wrist and incorporating the elbow is so important for getting underneath the ball. Your elbow uses your tricep/bicep to bend, and those muscles are MUCH stronger than only your wrist. Great job guys!
Finally a tutorial again, thank you. Helps a lot! Any Chance you can put out something about ball motion and how to react by diffrent lane/pattern conditions? Much appreciated! Please keep up the good work!!!
Appreciate the crystal clear instruction. It is frustrating as a beginning bowler to throw a ball that is good in heavy oil (Magic Gem)and have it show the same response as a light oil ball (Motiv Blue Coral). Seeing the “snap” gives me a clear picture of exactly what to work on.
Glad to See Andrew & Kurt got you into Bowling IQ while you were in town during the WSOB, great place to practice in suburban Detroit. They have Specto there so you can see if the rev rate increases with these tips. I know I will take a look at that
Awesome video. Probably the simplest and easiest one to understand about this I have seen. Gret job. Now I understand it clearly. I was hitting up on ball, now will practice this better. Great slomo replay too. Keep it up.
Great video! I had the opportunity to see you guys at the players championship qualifiers in Columbus, and I didn’t even notice that I had been subbed to you for months. I’d like to see some slow motion releases- it would be nice to see the cupped wrist in action, including what your fingers and hands do at each point. Keep up the quality content!
Very well explained, guys. Thanks. A couple of things: I'm working on increasing my rev rate, but it has already improved by getting more stability at the foul line. It may not be obvious to everyone that you can lose revs because of what your feet are doing. Also, I would save the yo-yo release until after you are consistently keeping your wrist cupped, or at least firm, consistently. It is so difficult to change everything at once. Lastly, more of a question. I seem to have better results when I accelerate a split second before the release, still in the "flat spot", but I am still figuring out how much to make happen, how much to let happen, etc. (I'd love to hear from crankers out there exactly what they are feeling, thinking, etc. to get the timing right.
Re: getting the time right - if your shoes have interchangeable soles, try the stickiest options you've got. Sliding less helped me get more stability and later timing, and my revs went up as a result (though I'm not a cranker by any means).
I was one of those guys who thought having a Superman follow through was the answer, thanks for showing the correct way, talking about the 2 hand release was spot on for this topic, another great video guys, keep up the outstanding work!
Best explanation of this technique I have seen. Just bowled my best series ever using your method of increasing Rotation. Thanks and much success to you both. BTW, I am 65 and a new bowler.
I was trying to cup my wrist with a straight arm and it was causing crazy pain in my wrist to the point I was bowling two handed. Going to try and practice with a bent elbow and cupped wrist thanks for the tips guys
I was so discouraged when I tried getting my hand under the ball last weekend, and I totally sprained my wrist . I thought I just don't have a strong enough arm, but after watching this , I definitely had my arm completely straight and put all the strain on my wrist . Can't wait to heal up and bend my elbow and see if that helps . Thanks guys !
Bowling IQ. Love that place.thats where I get my bowling balls drilled. Love your videos. I'm new to bowling this year after over a decade off and can't get enough of it..
For me if you watch my bowling videos on my channel I do the yoyo and have a bent elbow and i whipe around the ball and I have been doing it for years since 2017 and this season I had to go to the sarge Easter grip because it hurt . And I combine the yoyo and what Darren's brother said with the wrist like a spring that is compressed then when releasing the ball it is like you let go of the spring and it pops up fast . But this does help me and it works for me.
Thank you for the awesome tips! Just watched this video before bowling this morning. I had to move 4 boards left to compensate for the increased rev rate! Much appreciated!
Rev Rates are complicated for me to understand at times. If it safe to meet in person, I would love to practice with you and have you examine my entire bowling movement, and that would give me a better idea of what to expect.
Thanks for all the great videos. I'm getting alot better. Makes it way more enjoyable when you improve your game. I'm way more consistent and that was my first goal.
Can you still maintain a free arm swing when you drop the ball on your second step with a bent elbow and bent wrist? I’ll give this a shot in practice.
I love the tutorial videos. Is there any possibility you could show some super slow motion videos of the wrong ways bowlers throw the ball (ie hitting up), and the correct yoyo technique? I would love to have some videos I could use to compare to what I see in my practice videos.
My question is I wear a storm C4 brace. How do I master all of these steps with a brace? Is there a different technique and if so can you all do a video for all of us brace wearing folks?
Great explanation of the cupped wrist and elbow! I can personally say just the cupped wrist makes you injury prone... Two years ago I ended up getting tendonitis in my wrist because of cupping only my wrist and it was RIGHT in the middle of the high school bowling season and I was out for three months. Had to use a wrist brace for a while after that, but now I’m back to normal and am cupping the wrist again, but with a little more elbow bend. I’m still working on bending that elbow a tiny bit more, but I’ve certainly improved since two years ago!
Seems like I naturally do that covering many spares without the uncoil effect to cover more pins. I Will have to try it more often on 1st shots as many times I need more revs even on house patterns. For many years I rolled with what some call chicken winging it without the uncoiling and yes that definitely causes pain. Will try this new way for sure. Thanks.
I commented on this once before my question is how to do such I understand it is the best way to do it but I’m not sure you guys are clear on how to just my thoughts
Do you guys have any info on older bowlers on the tour and how they stay in shape? Im in my mid-thirties (not massively old I know) and getting back into bowling, only to notice I have developed knee pain as Im older and in worse shape. Knee pain is surely a common thing for older bowlers, so do you know any exercises that can be done to combat this? Or are there any PBA bowlers who I could ask on social media about this? Thanks
I’m having trouble with my thumb in the ball, I grip it to much and I end up getting blisters on my thumb. Maybe you guys can have a video for the players who grip the ball to hard
This is amazing information I never realized this (granted this is my first year bowling more competitively) and the fact that I was doing the opposite of the yo-yo the whole time. As a two finger bowler though, any tips besides keeping the wrist cupped? I naturally have to cup a bit more since I don't have the support of my thumb, but was wondering if there was anything else I should try to increase rev rate. Thanks for all the great content guys can't wait to see more videos with your respective new teams as well!
As I’ve learned to allow the ball to drop freely from my swing I have not found the right timing to do this any longer I guess I was always considered a muscle bowler which I’m trying to get away from but when I let the ball freefall I cannot get my hand underneath to create directions what to do ?
Would love to practice just getting my hand underneath with a couple risk when is the correct timing for such how did this come about what is the best chip to understand how I can get my hand underneath the equator of the ball and win
Question: How could increasing your rev rate help you compete on the tour? My philosophy has always been knowing how to adapt the quickest and stringing sticks until the Xs come
Oh wow! Now I see why I’ve been inconsistent. I’ve been attempting to push the ball more, vs the yo-yo effect. Can’t wait to go try it, cause my rev rate is low.
As a new 2 handed bowler this season, I'm looking for more speed. Rev rate looks good but I'm only at 12-13 mph compared to my 17-18 single hand. At 2 handed current speed I'm 153 avg. Any advice?
Lower body is where all of your speed comes from. Possibly taking a step back, lowering your ball starting position, and speeding up your approach would help increase your speed.
What do you think of the helicopter roll....A teammate had half of his games using it with 300 (10) score results in one summer league. The ball wont shoot the the back, but the ball hangs in the pin area spinning arounf and knocks dow a lot of pins.
Yes Jim I would practice with a lighter ball to get the technique down that's a good questionyes gym I would practice with a lighter ball to get the technique down that's a good question and then move up to a heavy your ball as you strength in your wrist
Question when you roll it the way you do and use the yo yo technique. What of the two fingers do you want to focus on more to get the rotation right? Every time I try it this way the ball barley breaks and goes more straight?
Hey guys. Question - when I bowl, I find that my first knuckle on my ring finger (from the palm) feels swollen and I usually can't bend it back in for a few weeks. How do I solve this issue? Thanks.
Michael, I thought I would take a crack at answering your question, but I am no expert. One solution may be to convert your ball to '"finger tip grips" which puts your fingers in the ball to only the first joint. Part of your problem may be you are gripping the ball too hard. Your grip on the ball should be no harder than if you were gripping a baby bird. If your bowling house has a pro shop, speak with the pro about your problem and have him look at the way your ball was drilled and how you hold it.
Hello Kyle and Brad, I'm so you guys fan also really like your videos! I have a question, when I release a ball, my 1~3 oil track on the my thumb! I know there is kinds causes... but it's too hard to fix... could you help me?
What I don't understand is how for example does Kyle in his release have a straight arm and cupped wrist and then bends his arm through the swing. And it's not like I'm weak. I workout consistently and consider myself an experienced lifter and I've been bowling for years. But I do not understand how to bend the arm through the swing. Like Ej tackett is so skinny but he revs the hell out of it. I think it's all technique then actual strength
I'll second timing. High-rev players have late timing, allowing them to be stable/strong at the foul line. In slow-mo videos of those bowlers (like EJ), watch the delay between their slide foot arriving at the foul line and their release. Some of them hardly slide - they almost plant the foot to create their foundation. That stability frees up their arms to get on the gas.
I'm just binging bowling things and just realized that this is why my forearm is absolutely jacked now and can suffer from it dying halfway through the night lol
Im just getting back into bowling and am havning great difficulty gaining revs. the "YoYo effect" you talk about is intersting, but even watching your side images I don't see it. Maybe my YoYo days were differnt, but that would seem to drop the bowl opposed to keeping under it. What about a super slow mo side video, frame by frame, that shows it more clearly?
Thanks for the video. I see a lot of senior bowlers use wrist braces, and they get a nice hook. However, my thumb gets stuck every time I try to move around the side of the ball like they do. Your technique seems completely different. Do you have a special pitch on your thumb hole?
Hi guys thanks for posting the video question when you Hit your wrist like that at the bottom of it do you try to project it out onto the lane or are you essentially trying to do that and set the ball down right at your feet?
In the video Brad said dont keep your wrist flat you will get no revs,, I just wanted to say it's ok to do that when u want to be like barnes in the pba league last year have a dead hand at the bottom and roll it right up 5
I've been practicing the Yo-Yo release. I have no problem cupping my wrist, or elbow, but for some reason when I go to release, this is where I get confused. I am from the school of thought where you have to lift with your fingers to get anything on the ball... Any help on this? Do I just flick my wrist down and not lift at all or turn my hand, but just stay behind the ball the entire time and let it come off my fingers with no lift? Please help as no one I know seems to use this technique, but all do it old school by lifting with their fingers. I am trying to learn about launch angels, break point, and of course Yo-Yo release. Thanks guys for your training videos. I love them, just not quite grasping this particular thing...
I just started bowling about 2 weeks ago. I'm completely hooked, and have been watching your videos to help out. Keep 'em coming! Especially for us 45 year old beginners. There's a bunch of us out there.
Hooked, I see what you did there! 🤣👌

Can you Upload a video similar to Brad's from Kyle's release? (side and back)
I can attest to the injury side of wrist cupping without elbow bend... after a few years, it finally caught up to me...
Another great video. Just wanted to say thanks. I have been bowling just over a year and watching you guys has helped my game improve so much in this first year. Awesome video. Probably the simplest and easiest one to understand about this I have seen. Gret job. Now I understand it clearly. I was hitting up on ball, now will practice this better. Great slomo replay too. Keep it up.

Who ever is disliking these videos, obviously is not a bowling fan
"Obviously you're not a golfer."

I heard a lot of time this "yoyo effect" story but I had troubles understanding the point. Now it's clear, thank you guys for your good explanations !
I was one of those guys who thought having a Superman follow through was the answer, thanks for showing the correct way, talking about the 2 hand release was spot on for this topic, another great video guys, keep up the outstanding work!
Incredible how you explain this in sequence. Makes a lotta sense for league player like me… I’ve been trying to up my revs for a long long time
Best explanation of this technique I have seen. Just bowled my best series ever using your method of increasing Rotation.
Thanks and much success to you both.
BTW, I am 65 and a new bowler.
Thanks for watching. :bowling: You can join our coaching class - bradandkyle.uscreen.io/

Thank you guys... First time no old school crap teaching monster wrists.
Thanks! This really helped with my rev rate. I learn a lot from your guys vids.
I was trying to cup my wrist with a straight arm and it was causing crazy pain in my wrist to the point I was bowling two handed. Going to try and practice with a bent elbow and cupped wrist thanks for the tips guys

Thank you for the "coil" visual... Really clicked. Can't wait to go make the adjustments tomorrow 💪💪🤘
I think the pba has given you great nicknames
Miller time!
And
Kid Dynamite!
Tonito Varona I like clickbait lol
Richard Lewis and B-Squad
You guys do an excellent job of thorough explanation! Keep it up!

I study this all the time but your explanation makes sense. Bending the elbow slightly will help me get under the ball better! Thanks
Great vid guys. DO you guys do video lessons by chance?
Well that explains why my wrist hurts after bowling. Thx for the HUGE tip for me.
This is so helpful.....we really appreciate the effort put into these videos-- they're very informative and entertaining 👍
Thanks for watching
Thank You....so much knowledge you offer!
I commented on this once before my question is how to do such I understand it is the best way to do it but I’m not sure you guys are clear on how to just my thoughts
You guys are awesome ! My favorite bowling channel !
Thanks for watching

Very informative video! Keep up the good work guys!
As always, great video. You guys are awesome. Your tips in this video improved my release almost immediately.
Thanks for watching
I was a professional Yo-Yo Player back in the early 2000's, I wonder if my snap technique will work with my bowling approach. I shall try that lol.
This is nice because my main ball is The Idol, proud Rotogrip user, I use The Winner and Idol for my set up.
Thanks so much, have been wanting to increase my revs for a while and I hope this video helps, which it most definitely will!😁
Love this video my only question is... in the down swing arent you suppose to let gravity bring your arm down instead of cupping it??
I’m having trouble with my thumb in the ball, I grip it to much and I end up getting blisters on my thumb. Maybe you guys can have a video for the players who grip the ball to hard
Darrin Lindsey thank you, I will look into this more! Always been a issue with me!
Brad & Kyle thank you as well! Love the channel and I met you Kyle at thunderbowl lanes in Allen park! Right after USA vs the world!
This is amazing information I never realized this (granted this is my first year bowling more competitively) and the fact that I was doing the opposite of the yo-yo the whole time. I naturally have to cup a bit more since I don't have the support of my thumb, but was wondering if there was anything else I should try to increase rev rate.
Thanks for all the great content guys can't wait to see more videos with your respective new teams as well!
Are you pushing your palm forward or flicking your fingers down?
I like the drill you used in previous video using a "duck pin ball?"
As I’ve learned to allow the ball to drop freely from my swing I have not found the right timing to do this any longer I guess I was always considered a muscle bowler which I’m trying to get away from but when I let the ball freefall I cannot get my hand underneath to create directions what to do ?
Best tutorial on the release....
Do a video dealing with thumb problems (blisters, tearing)
Sounds like your ball is drilled wrong
It starts blistering around game 8
Improper fit and probably more important, improper grip, as you get tired you naturally want to hold it tighter thinking youll let go
Would love to practice just getting my hand underneath with a couple risk when is the correct timing for such how did this come about what is the best chip to understand how I can get my hand underneath the equator of the ball and win
All my homies love Brad and Kyle
Question: How could increasing your rev rate help you compete on the tour? My philosophy has always been knowing how to adapt the quickest and stringing sticks until the Xs come
Extra revs = more energy at pin impact. That's how you get those great messengers off the sidewall.
Ah, thank you man
Oh wow! Now I see why I’ve been inconsistent. I’ve been attempting to push the ball more, vs the yo-yo effect. Can’t wait to go try it, cause my rev rate is low.
great tips guys1!
Very informing video. Keep up the great work
Thanks for all the tips! Keep up the great videos.
Thanks for watching
Great vid, but I also want to know WHERE this is filmed! I want this layout in my basement!
What do you think of the helicopter roll....A teammate had half of his games using it with 300 (10) score results in one summer league. The ball wont shoot the the back, but the ball hangs in the pin area spinning arounf and knocks dow a lot of pins.
Question, when practicing should you use a lighter ball and heavier ball to try and increase revs? This approach works for golf swing speed. Thanks
Yes Jim I would practice with a lighter ball to get the technique down that's a good questionyes gym I would practice with a lighter ball to get the technique down that's a good question and then move up to a heavy your ball as you strength in your wrist
Hey Brad,kyle..good luck for PBA league..I'm your fan from Malaysia...

Question when you roll it the way you do and use the yo yo technique. What of the two fingers do you want to focus on more to get the rotation right? Every time I try it this way the ball barley breaks and goes more straight?
Great video guys, will you guys be doing a Junior Gold arsenal video like what balls you should think about taking for the tournament
Curious if you think things such as Turbo Power Grip Tape or ProGrip Grip Cream will help with increasing revs.
At Dilaura Bros/Bowling IQ i see......great job guys great channel. Thats my wholesaler for my pro shop
How to increase your rev rate (secret tip!):
Ok so what you’re gonna wanna do is put both of your hands on the ball
...and throw it down the lane from one side trying really hard to S P I N it
Same
I'm tempted to do this but it looks uncool 😑
You guys are great.
Those damn two handers. Lol. Grats on there big win Kyle.
Timing
I'll second timing. High-rev players have late timing, allowing them to be stable/strong at the foul line. In slow-mo videos of those bowlers (like EJ), watch the delay between their slide foot arriving at the foul line and their release. Some of them hardly slide - they almost plant the foot to create their foundation. That stability frees up their arms to get on the gas.
do you guys have any drills you do to increase your rev rate? I am having trouble trying to rev the ball without cupping the ball.
These guys need more subscrimers
Clockwise release is not ordinary but it will give optimum leverage at release .
In the video Brad said dont keep your wrist flat you will get no revs,, I just wanted to say it's ok to do that when u want to be like barnes in the pba league last year have a dead hand at the bottom and roll it right up 5
How do you keep the tape on your thumb? When i put it on it starts to come off 2 or 3 fames in.
How to overcome wrist pain?
can you make a video for 2 hander tips?
Simonsen or belmo guest appearance would be sweet
@@TaylorTz199 thats a great idea
Congrats on 29k
i cup the ball but not with the spare shots i shoot at like 15 or 16 mph but idk what my rev rate would be
