The primary time i use bomberA is cold water stripers or around doc light. But…, only a few folks know about this on Lanier as wakebait. You can play around shaving the bill , and it’s crazy good!!!
I've had one of these for years and never caught a fish on it as a jerkbait. After watching this I went out to the storage building and moved it to my topwaters box.
This is something that I have done for a long time but I have kept it secret because I hadn't heard of anyone else doing it. Since you're putting it out there, let me recommend a couple others that are also excellent, and in my opinion even better than the Long A, the Cotton Cordell Redfin Shad, which I rank number 2, and the Storm ThunderStick, which I rank number 1 for this technique. And then if you want a magnum size there's the Storm Flat Stick. #catsoutofthebagnow
I use the Bomber Shallow A as a wake but, never tried the long A. I'll have to give it a shot and see how it does. Something I found out with the shallow A is that you can just about double the amount of bites you get on it if you add a VMC bladed treble to the front of the bait. No idea why but, it really improves the amount of bites I get on it. Also the color seems to be pretty important- the baby bass pattern for some reason really works well for me. I'm fishing bodies of water with no shad in them- bluegill and baitfish are the main forage- maybe that's why the baby bass pattern works so well for me. Thanks for the tips man, can't wait to give it a go.
For sure good Sir . I live here in Knoxville and we love to fish the Long A on Loudoun for Smallies . We also go up to Fontana and throw it for those good 3-4 lb Spots . When they hit it , sounds lika bowling ball dropped in the laydown or a toilet being flushed 😳😲🤯
I use the Redfin some but haven’t done much with it. I like fishing with big wakebaits 1-1/2 to 4oz, this time of year. It can get you a monster. Caught one small one last night and had a monster come completely out of the water and miss the big rat wake I built. Going back tonight
I'll give it a try Hank. But, I am sensing this bait may end up alongside my lipless crank baits. Seems like a niche bait specific to a very short period of time. Good video!
I have an old style one that has the rear hook held by a screw. I have unscrewed it and put a prop on in front of the hook. I use it as a topwater by popping it and letting it float back up. After a couple of pops I wake it back in. I'm afraid of losing it because you can't put a prop on the new ones. I have been using this bait for many years and have probably caught more bass on this lure than any other lure I have.
Interesting. I never would’ve thought of that. I I like the chrome blue back color for my water. Definitely worth a try. Anything to put more fish on the bank. Thanks man! 👊🏻
@@BassGeek Cold water isn’t usually an issue here (south Florida) 😂 We get an occasional cold snap tho, and sometimes causes the bait fish to struggle or die. That’s the only time I can use a jerk bait effectively. Your tip on using it as a wake bait, may keep them in my tackle box for another season.
I've used them and they work. I gotta check out that other color bc it looks great. Thanks for making me spend more money on baits Hank 🤣 !! Great info most wont tell you about right here.
Very interesting method. I picked up a bunch of 4 to 6 inch jerk baits over the summer after I lost one to a pike in the spring. They are mostly bargain bin and cheap Chinese plastic but most of them have good buoyancy. I also like to throw on zebco rods and reels that are often 4:1 and slower. With medium light action. This might be a great technique for individuals like myself as it is very simple. I also wonder how a jerkbait would react if it had the lip removed 🤔 if it would naturally want to walk and not dive... might have to try. Keep up the great work!
I was using a rapala ripstop and a whopper plopper on Saturday with no success. I really need to catch a fish on a lure. I was trying to keep it on the top but I guess gotta grab some of these. Thank you again as always. Cheers 🍻
Hank !! ,. Always have the bomer in gold n black. ,. Hard to find a clear or bone color ,. Tell people there in the saltwater sec,. Of baits ! Been trying the lunkerhunt slash 6s. ,. Suspinding , 6 foot depth. U tried them ??? Theimp impact series. ?????
Ok, that was pretty dang cool and convincing! Last night while froggin right when I had blowup, a big ol blow-up appeared further out in the pond and this big lookin head was swimming away...was a dang Squirrel, must a jumped or fell out the tree..made a great wake bait!
Great secret wakebait, and I’ve watched the Pros use them to wake topwater and Win 🥇 💰💰💰 love the purple/chartreuse color, and so do the smallies 🎣😜🎣🍀🍀🍀🍀
On the bottom and slightly up the side other than that no! I usually use 4 colors on top water. Bone, Black, chrome and a translucent. The only time that changes is when I'm fishing for smallmouth. Good old chartreuse does work really well.
Here I've been wondering for years about using the Rapala floating jerkbait like that. Just never gotten around to it 😆 Well good thing I haven't and should give that a try here soon at my look smallmouth lake.
My favorite wakebait is no longer made!!! Well the color anyway..... The Manns 1- chrome black back. Or bass pro shops "the egg" in any type of chrome shad pattern
@@BassGeek i would love for somebody to make me some custom painted ones BUT.... It costs so much!!! Worth it though. Caught my PB on a Manns 1- chrome black back. 11.5 lbs
Normally love your recommendations, but screw those sunglasses. Over $300 adder for prescription? Do they realize places like Zenni add prescriptions for less than $30-40? Talk about taking advantage of folks...

Hartwell as well.
Yeah we use it up here on Boone for the same thing. You won't believe in the cold how well it works for those spots and smallies!

Great info! I've used the Cotton Cordell but not the storm so I'll have to pick some up.l
Great video, very informative. I'll have to try it, I've always used them for walleye
They kill for smallies and the large heads on ole P
I’ll definitely give these a try!!
They are a great topwater bait when the temp really drops.
My PB smallmouth 22" was caught using a longA, bone color fishing it just as you described 😉
That's awesome. Way to go!
So, another topwater to help out during the fall transition. Thanks, Hank for another solid tip video.
No thank you sir.

Yeah I could see the blade on that. Now be carful on the adding any weight to the long a because it wants to dive.
Love this bait. It also makes a good popper/spook as well. It has a suttle rattle that drives the fish crazy.
yeah the sound is very low deep and unique.
I've had this work for pike early in the spring when they get that first aggressive burst.
Nice trust me try it in the fall.

Killer idea!
Thanks!

You are correct it is a fall to early winter bait for sure.
My dad has always thrown the long A like this. I’ve grown up throwing this as a wake bait on Boone. Great vid!
Yes those strips love it on Boone
Nobody:

A new method to use my Long A’s. Thx. What is the color name for the purple with chartreuse belly? I can’t find it. Again, thx!
Sorry I forgot to put that in the description Lavander shad and You can find it at Fish USA
Bomber long A is a hard Bait to find out west we have some small mouth lakes haven't had a chance to fish them yet
Go to the pradco.com website you'll find'em there.

I just bought some cotton Cordell Red Fin and rippling red fin minnow looking forward to early spring
I hear that
I still have a few of the buckeye lures wakes. I know PH lures makes something similar to it. What are your thoughts on them?
I have some myself. They have a LOT more action than the long a. I think the subtle action is what helps it stand out.
That good point about subtle action. I think those KY lake smallies will kill it.
This title was confusing but it's bass geek,it's not like I am going to ignore his video.

I just wished I could say I got a dime from them lol I don't.
For 3 straight years now, I have had bomber long a's on my TW wishlist, and haven't yet picked them up. LOL
Dude up there for those smallies holly crap you better hit that button.
@@BassGeek I know, right....lol
My wish list is just so dang long, that I don't know how to prioritize it.
How will it do in river that's a little choppy?
I don't know it will catch the heck out of smallmouth in the river though.

What knot do you tie onto the bait. Also, what knot do you use to tie your braid to the leader? Thank you
Loop knot. Blood knot.
@ thank you!
Do you have any videos on how you tie these knots? It is second hand to you but it isn’t old school guys like me!

BONE BOMBER BABY!!
hahahaha you know it.
I've been doing this with a 13g floating rapala for years. Gold or silver, either one works great for southern large mouth.

Hey bud any more pelican bass raider videos comin our way

man I love that can you teach me how to throw a spinning rod like you
