NMIXX is such a classic example of if you're talented, there's no way your company is going to hide that. They're going to make you do hella covers, they'll make you sing live all the time and even in your dance practices like they will not cut corners or edit stuff out if they don't have to

@@kira_legranI agree, even in a vocal monster group like NMIXX with sullyoon, haewon and lily, kyujins voice still stands out and she is incredibly stable. I don't think i have ever heard her miss a note and I think she definitely deserves to be on this list.
Some examples of Lily's improved riffs and runs are her most recent livestreams (Leisure with Lily #12 and her birthday livestream). I've noticed that she improved because she lightens her voice to achieve better precision and note separation, she used to drag the notes because of too much weight
I wouldn't say improved since she's alr been doing these before.. Singing runs with a lighter voice is way easier.. She's prob practicing her agility on areas she's weaker at..
If we only talk about voice tone then I really love Ningning's tone. Backed up with her technique, it's just so beautiful. The only 'problem' I found is just she's still unstable during live performances. I remember watching a very outstanding Next Level performance by Bada, and I could only imagine if Ningning could gain more confidence like her, it would be perfect. And for NMIXX, one thing that impressed me is how confident they are on stage. Like every member is just so good. They sing so loud with chest held high, and that's quite rare nowadays. They really don't need any backtracks. Too bad I'm still not quite comfortable with their songs, but I hope in the future I will.
I think ningning has actually gotten so much better with her vocal stability, she did really well during spicy era. What she needs is confidence to do complex high notes live.
Thats wwhat ive been saying. If Ningning had the boldness Winter has, and if Winter had Ningnings technique, they'd be INSANE together. Perfect vocal tones already, just need a little more training tbh
The fact that both Aespa and NMIXX have 3 members in this list says about the truth that these two groups are the BEST among 4th gen when it comes to talent
So we can safely say that vocal wise the strongest kpop groups are: NMIXX: Half of their members made it here. Aespa: 3/4 of their members made it on the list. No surprise.
I actually can't wait to see what hanni can do as new jeans discography doesn't really give a lot of opportunities but I think her greatest assset so far is her tone. I've been waiting for her by jeans
I'm such a fan with how much haewon adjuste her voice to fit the mood of different songs and this girl even if she is out of breath will always sing the right note
OMG I AGREE SO MUCH. I feel like sometimes she sings so powerfully but sometimes sings so softly and gently. Like for example her bridge line in LMLT and her pre chorus line in My Gosh.

I know Lily is the 1# place, but my fav voice is Haewon. cuz she always fits every song she sings, and she really knows how to play with her voice. I'm always surprised because her voice is actually deep, but when she sings, her voice keeps changing😂. Sometimes her voice can be sweet, powerful, deep, and her dance is even more surprising😂 because we are only shown Haewon singing without knowing that her dance is very good, powerful, and also fluid but sharp too. @@_nenie Ive heard of them. However his previous vocal ranking only features 3rd and 4th gen vocalists. So never really mentioned them. They're undeniably great singers though😊
I wish Ningning would tap into that inner powerhouse we all know she has. She's got a phenomenal technique for belting, see savage for an ex, but never uses it anymore. I think SM has shifted to Winter as a second Main Vocalist either because of Ningnings airy mix for belting, or because they don't want to cause regression in their original Main Vocalist. If SM were to pass on the technique singers like Luna ahs to Winter and Ningning, they'd be unstoppable duo, they kinda already are.
Ning has been extra careful ever since debut I think. Almost all her live belts have a noticeably lighter mix, and it definitely loses impact. Probably why they keep using Winter for the "big" belts.

I have been anticipating this for the longest time NingNing's lower range is scary and her ease is enviable not her company adding winter as a main vocalist to justify her having more lines like bffr Lily and Haewon be leading 4th gen in vocals especially as the gen tends to disregard vocals and focus more on visuals and flashy performances
Well winter has a more brave approach in her higher belts so it’s not surprising to me that they also made her a main vocal and I’m not really against it but it’s also questionable since ning is seen as a weak main vocal for sm female standarts even tho she’s one of the strongest in 4th gen, she was the weakest sm female main vocal and now with winter being also a main vocal she’s currently the weakest sm female main vocal. Again I’m not totally against her having that title since she does take on the main vocal responsibilities quite a lotta times but it lowers the sm standards even further. It’s kinda clear that they didn’t really care about that and just wanted to give her and karina higher vocal positions to justify their bias.
@@mimi_imfatNCT 127 have 3 to 4 main vocals that doesn’t mean Taeil is a week main vocal. We all know his power, he is the best among all of them. However, I do agree about the Bias, which I believe is because NingNing is a foreigner. Winter is an amazing vocalist but they shouldn’t make her overshadow NingNing.
People really underestimated Ningning's lower register, kid used to sing Whitney Houston and Beyonce on her early years, too bad SM obviously decided change her vocal approach.
thanks for the list! i tend to see some people underestimate liz' vocal prowess a lot but she is actually one of the few who can showcase a perfect mix of technical and stylistic approach in her singing. apart from that, her tone is godsent... one of the rarest in k-pop for sure, and i hope she follows the footsteps of her starship seniors since girly has really huge potential
@@kira_legran actually, even Bae (weakest vocalist in Nmixx) is a better vocalist than Lia and Yeji, I'm just baffled by how JYPE managed to form a strong vocal group but not do the same for Itzy
maybe because she doesn't have many singing lines and even less live, if he judges vocals based on live performances he can't count giselles amazing backing vocals and such
Because its SM who wouldn't give her the luxury to sing compared to her other members who's been given too many opportunity compared to her. Look at their last comeback.
It’s cuz JYP sabatoged them with their discography and concept. Should have followed the red velvet blueprint (new concept every era, with consistent, vocal-centered music) THEN they would have been the top gen 4 group no doubt
I just love how easy it is to listen to Liz's tone even when belting out, Ningning's tone is sweet and Lily's is a powerful one. Their vocals are beautiful ❤
Fair ranking. Ningning's flow is attractive and soothing. I've watched a lot of videos of Lily singing live and it's very impressive. Tho sometimes she comes out as loud (reminds me of Brandon Urie) I agree she's currently the best.
Well Lily is a high soprano that can go quite high in a pretty healthy way so she gets a lot of Eb5/E5s which would obviously cause her to adopt a “shouty” approach
My girl Ningning has improved so much. I think I must be a sucker for lower registers because that is def what stood out to me when first listening to her. She’s my fave vocalist on that list and her recent progress with vocal runs has me so excited for her future. My next faves would be Liz, Sullyoon and then Lily.
not hating at ALL,but hybe is known for also editing the idols voices during the videos that show the recording sessions, sometimes im scared to even trust their “live” performances
I mean you can literally hear some form of vocal processing in the Hanni recording clips. I also don’t trust HYBE ‘live’ stages, it’s very odd how they sound better while doing full choreos than when doing encores or random singing moments at concerts... They do have some nice vocalists with great potential like Hanni tho.
Even then, it still won't change the fact they don't have much good Vocalists in their company besides Lee Hyun (and Yuju but her group disbanded thanks to their company so yk)
It still baffles me how Jyp trains so many good vocalists in one group like NMIXX but then completely ignored giving good vocal trainings to Itzy. The fact that Yeji has to sing according to her intuition is absurd. Why can’t just provide better trainings to them like how they trained their dancing??
Jyp has different division and each group is managed completely separately. SQU4D, NMIXX’s division, cares a lot about giving them vocal training but Division 2, Itzy’s, doesn’t organize or prioritize this for Itzy. Its different people making the decisions and therefor doing different things with their groups.
I don't think we'll see someone better than Lily in the next 10 years, at least. And the fact that she's constantly improving means she's definitely going to be a top vocalist in K-pop, not only in the 4th generation.
haha i remember when the first nmixx cover videos came out a lot of us were shocked. we were like jyp group with technical vocalists?! it’s so nice to see.
To be honest i like few of this generation, but Hanni and Ning Ning would be my favorites without a doubt. Hanni has a soft voice that is super pleasant to my ear (I would say that most New Jeans have voices like that, maybe that's why I like them so much). For me she is like the saying "less is more". Ning Ning on the other hand has a higher range and a more powerful voice but still maintains a certain softness and a certain surroundness. In a group where their style is very heavy (not to my liking) sometimes it is as if her voice was made of silk and it makes all the difference. In this comeback I REALLY liked how her voice sounded. I would love to hear covers of her. (I also give credit to Karina and Liz, although Karina has many rap parts, I am not unaware that she also has a very good voice)
@@itsavias Winter and Lily together is a mess. That's why Haewon is a great pair with Lily because there's a balance, same with Ningning and Winter. If you put two high pitched voices together, that's a disaster, unless one takes more on the lower register.

I agree, I think we still don’t know all of what Liz can do at the stage she is at right now. I’m still curious to hear more of her head voice and also lower register, she had a nice moment in Nobody. I think she’s a very promising vocalist and while vocal tone is down to preference, I think Liz and NingNing have the most beautiful ones this gen.
When it comes to aespa I see a lot of talk about Winters voice online, and don’t get me wrong I love winters voice but I just love seeing people talk about Ningning’s voice. She’s the main vocalist for a reason after all. I think a lot of people online think a large range equals being a better vocalist but there’s so much more to singing than hitting high notes. It’s one thing if you can hit but how your singing is more important cause you don’t wanna strain your voice. Ningning has such a pretty voice she’s one of my all time favourite vocalists in K-pop lol.
@@PinkySoda They do give her high notes, not as many as Winter usually, but still. Watch the behind the scenes recordings of their songs, they're great.
About the yeji part, i think jyp’s criticism of her vocals is true however it’s very ironic that he’s giving the criticism since he’s technically worse than her. He’s pointing out her vocal problems rightfully so, but isn’t actually showing her HOW to sing it better. So I understand the fan’s frustration even tho he isn’t wrong.
Ningning has a beautiful voice and is very smooth toned in a lot of ranges, but I think her shaky pitch issues would keep her from being better than other vocalists around where she’s placed
this reminds me of when lily got discovered on kpop star a decade ago, and the judges said that she will be one of the best in her generation. Well, they got it right!
Lily's head voice is pretty. Really liked her Psycho cover. Do you consider making a 2nd gen version? Skilled vocalists that can be featured are Luna, Taeyeon, Lee Haeri, Kim Yeonji, Lina, Hyorin ect
For anyone wondering, the 5 idols with the little red heart outline were: Lia (11th place) Karina (8th place) Liz (5th place) Sullyoon (4th place) Haewon 🥈(2nd place)
I hope JYP won't destroy Lily's voice. I'm more of an aespa and itzy fan, but I agree that the vocal top spot really belongs to Lily, no questions asked.
I love her voice because she sings stylistically but has actual technique to fall back on! You can tell that she sings that way because she LIKES it, not because it's a coverup for an otherwise weak voice, yk?
I know lily had to be first! Her skills are impressive through and through. Honestly NMIXX’s vocals are just impressive in general. JYP needs to give them better songs asap.
And make a video about harmonization for 4th gen girl groups please! I really love your little mix videos like all of them especially the harmonization thing
NMIXX genuinely has really good and interesting vocalists. I just wish JYP would give them better music, so far I much prefer their covers over most of their own songs…
glad to see my girl liz on the top 5 of this generation, cause she's improving immensely nowadays. I agree her mixed is her strength, making her voice sounds so easy on the ear. hoping she explore more to her lower register, cause it sounds so beautiful in 'Nobody' and also her falsetto/head voice, like the glimpse of those clips sound heavenly I would love to hear her showing riff and runs more though, her honey voice would sound crazy good on rnb track.
it's like everytime there's a debate about vocals among other groups they'll be like Person1: X member of X group is the best 4th gen vocalist Person2: No, Y member of Y group is better Then it's back and forth of nonsense meanwhile when it comes to nmixx. people of other fandom are trying so so hard extra hard to beat lily lol like that alone is saying something. only when they're up against lily when suddenly all these technical terms are sprouting here and there.
i still cant believe that nmixx, in like 2 years in activity, manages to have better vocals than their senior ggs twice and itzy. the better vocalist of these two is jihyo who trained for 9 freaking years before debuting and i still feel like the 3 vocalists of nmixx featured in this list are way more skilled than her (although i love jihyo)
@@straawberryyNo, she didn't. Do some research. She was casted as child actor and after few years of training as one, JYP told her to train for an idol. (Literally confirmed by her own mother). I think it’s kinda weird that NMIXX and ITZY are both from the same agency and generation, but one group got 3 incredibly strong vocalists, and another one got none (Lia is a good vocalist, but not an outstanding one, so she gets so much hate). It just looks like such a strange decision from group building perspective! As the result, NMIXX vocalists other than Lily don’t get as much attention as they deserve because of being in the same group with her, and ITZY is limited in their range because they lack an really strong vocalist. Lose lose situation. (And I say this as someone who likes both groups).
I think they realized 4th gen was weak at singing and decided to play it safe with their next group, makes sense if you notice that itzy are one of the first 4th gen ggps and at least they're actually stable, it mainly went downhill from there
I think itzy was created with performance and dancing skills being the main focus in mind so they picked trainees that fit that the most. And they had a different idea in mind when picking nmixx. For example i think Lily would’ve never been picked in most 3rd gen kpop groups even tho she’s very talented vocally cause she doesn’t really fit kbs. Like that one girl in twice’s reality show that was the best singer of the whole cast but was eliminated even tho tzuyu or dahyun who didn’t show any extraordinary skill in anything at the time still made it in twice. Nmixx was picked with talent being the no.1 focus and that explains why so different groups can come out of the same agency. The image they want with the group changes everything.
@@mimi_imfat It was Jiwoon she is Fromis_9 now. I showed one of the sixteen’s battle to my sister and she was surprised that they eliminated the only one who can sing. I believe they sang Ariana’s “one less problem”. Also JYP said Jiwoon was not confident and she lacks facial expressions.
@@maheephoenix4398 yeah i forgot her name I’m glad she at least debuted in a group. Tbh this whole “lacking confidence” thing is a bit biased cause tzuyu never seemed confident in anything either. Dahyun was charismatic so I understand her being chosed a bit more. But tzuyu also lacked facials and never seemed confident when singing but the difference is she had a pretty face and a skinnier body so she still made it in the end.
About Winter's belting technique, it definitely needs improvement, but I really hope she is able to improve her technique while still preserving her unique style. It really suits aespa's music and even when you can hear her struggle, I can still enjoy the performance because her tonality saves it.
I think she uses it as a safety measure for all the upper belts that she has to do. She pinches in and goes a little more nasal as opposed to more chesty. Though it's a habit she pulls down to mid belts sometimes, I don't think I hear it a lot when she's comfortable/supporting. We also got a sneak peak of a much more balanced mix in the Jet bridge. Not sure what she did in that studio, but I hope she can move in that direction more. Haven't really heard it quite like that afterwards though.

Somebody that I wish was included in the '4th gen female vocalist' list, is CLASS:y. In my opinion, 4/7 members are above average vocalists. Specifically; Chaewon, Jimin, Riwon, and Hyungseo. As for Hyeju and Seonyou, they are rappers but Seonyou has hit some high notes before, but she's definitely underdeveloped when it comes to singing. As for Boeun, I'm not quite sure if I'd say she's above average, average or underdeveloped. Keep in mind a lot of these girlies are under 18, and were under 18 at debut so they have a lot of time to improve. I wish more people payed attention to these queens!

NMIXX is such a classic example of if you're talented, there's no way your company is going to hide that. They're going to make you do hella covers, they'll make you sing live all the time and even in your dance practices like they will not cut corners or edit stuff out if they don't have to
Lily on top exactly as she should also lets talk about nmixx having 3 of THE best vocalists of 4th gen in one group
Even 4. Cause Kyujin obviously better than Lia and Yeji, maybe better than Karina too.

i wish they could become more popular
@@lonesomewillyhandful8897 I do think that doing a better habit more often is improvement. She does a better approach at runs more frequently now.
I wonder why is it that she maintains such good technique while other vocalists in jyp seem to be regressing. could their coaches be different?
Yeah like even Bae sings live like its childs play

I love Ningning and her voice so much 🖤
I wish Ningning would tap into that inner powerhouse we all know she has.
So true
Ning has been extra careful ever since debut I think. Almost all her live belts have a noticeably lighter mix, and it definitely loses impact. Probably why they keep using Winter for the "big" belts.

I have been anticipating this for the longest time
NingNing's lower range is scary and her ease is enviable not her company adding winter as a main vocalist to justify her having more lines like bffr
Lily and Haewon be leading 4th gen in vocals especially as the gen tends to disregard vocals and focus more on visuals and flashy performances
Fair ranking. Ningning's flow is attractive and soothing. I've watched a lot of videos of Lily singing live and it's very impressive. Tho sometimes she comes out as loud (reminds me of Brandon Urie) I agree she's currently the best.
That's probably because Lily is often given belts as her voice shines in higher belts
True. Shady af.
But tzuyu also lacked facials and never seemed confident when singing but the difference is she had a pretty face and a skinnier body so she still made it in the end.
@@mimi_imfat well Tzuyu was not initially included in TWICE's debut line, but she got a lot of votes from fans who wanted her to debut
Yay! Love this type of content, for sure worth the wait!!
I love Karina's vocal cries and vocal fries
I love Karina's, NingNing's, and Haewon's voices
About Winter's belting technique, it definitely needs improvement, but I really hope she is able to improve her technique while still preserving her unique style. It really suits aespa's music and even when you can hear her struggle, I can still enjoy the performance because her tonality saves it.
True
I think she uses it as a safety measure for all the upper belts that she has to do. She pinches in and goes a little more nasal as opposed to more chesty. Though it's a habit she pulls down to mid belts sometimes, I don't think I hear it a lot when she's comfortable/supporting. We also got a sneak peak of a much more balanced mix in the Jet bridge.
Not sure what she did in that studio, but I hope she can move in that direction more. Haven't really heard it quite like that afterwards though.
Would you ever consider doing vocal tips, or advice video, I've been watching your videos and explain vocal technique and musicality so well so i'd love to see you do a segment helping inspiring vocalist get better. Maybe even use some vocalist you usually mention as examples of what someone should do
Our jiwon(Liz )get finally her moment as main vocal .
She imoroved days by days
Starship is known company for trainning well the vocal techniques but i feel as dive we need more trainning as vocalists in ive.
Liz have ton potentiel
No one surprised with top three
Lily is really the Wendy of 4th gen
the fact that the highest and the lowest ranking idols are both from jyp is crazy.. really shows the inconsistency in how they train idols cuz damn 😭
Maybe its about idols fault not companys lol
Jyp poaching vocalists now 🤣💀
JYP shouldn’t get any credit for Lily’s skills as she was already a proficient singer when she joined the company
It’s probably cause Jyp has different division and each group is managed completely separately. SQU4D, NMIXX’s division, cares a lot about giving them vocal training but Division 2, Itzy’s, doesn’t organize or prioritize this for Itzy. Its different people making the decisions and therefor doing different things with their groups.
so happy to see purple kiss in this list. they are so good vocally and still so underrated. kinda wish they will make a song that will hit the chart and give them more exposure.
I wish more people payed attention to these queens!
jimin is still in need of vocal lessons as she strains a lot
Boeun would be close to second or third to chaewon if we are being completely honest here.Idk why riwon should be above her?Boeun really doesn’t sound underdeveloped when it comes to singing despite being self taught
