18 minutes of pure musical joy, funny voices and all! It's Time To Say Goodnight is just beautiful, and it brought back some lovely happy memories. My dad used to sing it to me at bedtime when I was little.❤
This was recorded on my birthday 36 years before I was born! I love this music & feel I was born too late! Thank you for sharing this with us! Happy Days are here again…and it’s the bee’s knees! ♥️
I had the pleasure of meeting Les Allen in Toronto in 1985. We spent 2 hours together and he told me about his recording career in London, played several records and showed me several photo. A lovely man.
Lovely to see my grandfather, Bill Mulraney and hear these precious recordings. We had all the original 78's of this wonderful music as my father inherited them when Bill died. Sadly they were all smashed by the removal company when we moved house in 1970 and we thought they were lost for ever - so happy to be able to hear them here
TRACK TIMING: 00:22 [1] Love In Bloom (BBC Dance Orchestra directed by Henry Hall, Vocal chorus by Les Allen) 03:34 [2] An Elephant Never Forgets (BBC Dance Orchestra directed by Henry Hall, Vocal chorus by Lupino Lane) 06:38 [3] Mine For Keeps (BBC Dance Orchestra directed by Henry Hall, Vocal chorus by June) 09:34 [4] Hand In Hand (BBC Dance Orchestra directed by Henry Hall, Vocal chorus by Les Allen) 12:33 [5] Whistling Rufus (BBC Dance Orchestra directed by Henry Hall, Vocal chorus by Les Allen) 15:50 [6] It's Time To Say Goodnight (BBC Dance Orchestra directed by Henry Hall, Vocal chorus by Les Allen)
These are all magnificent recordings! But I'd say "Hand in Hand" is one of the best in this selection. It's also one of my favorite Hall songs. Would it be possible to upload a separate video of that particular song? Thanks for the upload Peter!
are you by chance classically trained or theater trained? many dance band singers were not. Les Allen, for example, began as a clarinetist-saxophonist.

Unfortunately these records are fragile. Bill was a terrific musician.
What fun!
Super excellent
That's a wonderful memory to have, and nice to know that Les was happy to recall the days when he was a big star in Britain.
Just beautiful. I want to regress so badly now to hear and relish these gems.
Thank you for sharing this excellent post.
Glad you liked this version. It is very well done!

This is a great playlist.
Glad you liked it
amo de coração. top
"LOVE IN BLOOM" WAS ALSO A HUGE HIT FOR BING CROSBY IN THIS HALCYON ERA OF SONG WRITING.

I will do so
A pleasure to hear-- btw, does an elephant never forget?
Bill Shay A big memory, presumably!
warbling and inconstant vocal melody - poorly executed.
