    I'm loving how the blue in your hair is fading. Today it looks like icy. It's almost to that currently popular gray color. What a fun journey!

      The silvery grey - that's the goal! I wish I had enough grey in my hair to just let it go grey. Unfortunately my hair is a mousey brown/dark dark blonde that looks like bare trees against a cloudy sky. With a bit of grey throughout! After this blue fades I'll probably leave it alone and go back to (hopefully) a silvery blonde. But you never know! I do like blue!

    Spray starch!!! Press seam up, walking foot bush bash bosh less stretching on the tee, it’ll wash out in no time, ooooorrr cut the tee 1.5-2 inches longer, press hem, flip up and overlock the three layers with knife disengaged, that’s what I did before my coverstitch, you look gorgeous in that dress Jen as usual, have a great weekend s

    can't wait to see your collab with Michelle :) I like the top you made for you daughter, and the fabric came from Hobby Lobby! Nice. I agree, I've met some great friends through YT that I talk to daily. It's great to find likeminded friends. Oh, I hate gathering but love gathering on garments. Have a great weekend Jen! X

    Love the dotted swiss blouse! The sleeves are a lot, and personally, I would have altered them to be a slimmer fit. But that's me. I do think they are stylish, just not practical for my life. LOL. I live in the US and we are not back to school until after Labor Day here. Having sewing sisters online is a wonderful use of technology. I need to find a couple! None of my "real life" friends sew. Have a blessed day!

      It is a pretty blouse and we'll see if #1 likes it or wants the fullness reduced. Fortunately she has a machine of her own! When I lived in NC, our kids never went back until Labor Day either. And I remember never going back until then when I was a kid. But here - they're back the first week of August! Crazy!

    I have to tell ya!!!…. I just made S8910 out of challis!!!! Talk about comfort and Pockets!!! It’s got pleats instead of gathers, in the front and back. The moment I put her on I was madly in love!!!! I have gotten so many complaints and ladies asking me to make them one(or two). Easy to make and a dream to wear. *just thought I’d put a bug in your ear*
    Have a fabulous week! May God bless you even more! 😎🌵🤠🫶🏼

    I love gathering - how I do it just depends on how I’m feeling and what’s there to use. I often gather on my overlocker( serger) that’s my fav way, then on the sewing machine. Yesterday I was making a shir red dress so I stirred the ruffle pieces to gather it. I just love a ruffle 🥰

    I saw your hair and it made me think of my mom and aunt way back in the 60's....I had gone to Sunday night Training Union at church and I was waiting on them to come for church service when they came through the door...they both had beautiful white hair but that night their hair was coneflower blue....blue....omigosh...it was a shock to me and I heard all these ladies of every age twittering about their blue hair...back then their was a rinse that you could use on your hair and it would give your hair shine and a lovelier white...they had used too much.
    I have a friend that I did craft festivals with for many years and we sewed most of our crafts...we had so much fun...then she and her husband moved back to Florida (their former hometown) and now we sew and connect when there is a question about the color or technique for a project...it is very helpful.
    Books are something I have too many of and use often...Nancy Zieman has some great helpful books. And I use them often.

      That's the first thing I thought after I did it - I'm a little old blue-haired lady now! LOL! That's so great that you have a wonderful friend you connect with all the time. And I love my Nancy Zieman books too. She was the master.

    FYI... I have sewn The Simplicity Lisette 2245 twice now and I love it. I too have looked for another one and can't believe the price of the one I did find, just crazy. There is a similar one that has come out by Liesl through Butterick but the front is different and I'm not sure I like it. Every time it is on sale I think about getting it and then don't! Anyway the S2245 that I wear all the time is in a Kaufman linen, so comfortable and I always get compliments. It is wearing out. I made a second in a poplin and did some embroidery on the front little flat area and the sleeve . I did put the pockets in this one and regret it. They flop out and look awful, I tacked them down but they still gap. I stitched them closed and them cut them off from the inside. The poplin was a nice weight. I imagine they would flop in all fabrics. Just wanted you to be aware. Maybe you will like it but I think it looks much better without the pockets or you might come up with a solution. Will be curious to see how yours turns out! I enjoy your channel so much!

    For hemming knits, I use an inch of knit interfacing, turn it up a half inch, and coverstitch it. That way it's going over two layers of interfacing. Works great!

  • @mickeyhinkson1750
    @mickeyhinkson1750 2 роки тому

    Loved your summary of gathering techniques! I’ve tried them all. I have settled on two lines of basting stitches for most applications, but instead of putting them both in the seam allowance, I put one inside the allowance and one outside the seam allowance. Then you are making the permanent stitches between the two lines of basting. It is pretty easy to adjust the distribution of the gathers as you sew to make it pretty. The only time I would not use this method is if taking out the basting stitches would leave permanent visible marks on the right side of the fabric. Since you have to remove the extra line of basting on the outside of the garment, I don’t know if this is more time effective or not.
    When I figure ratios, I tend to go with “less is more” unless sewing for a child or home dec. (I personally don’t need extra volume!)

    What a great phrase you came up with -- "Sewing Sisters". I love it! And, yes, it's true...you don't have to actually meet in person to be considered as "friends". It's great if you're able to meet up but, if not, there's the wonderful world of the internet or other forms of communication. You can still get to really know someone else through these means. My gosh, you were really busy this week. My fridaysews video will probably come out tomorrow; I've been moving rather slow this week. BUT I do intend to finish my sewing project for this week yet! Take care now!!

    You have been busy Jen, Love all your makes for your daughter & look forward to your collab with Michelle. The top is beautiful & those overalls will be amazing! How fun for you expecting a grandson & Trish sending you those fun Sesame Street sheets! I'm just learning gathering & love Simply Delilah's serger method for fast, even gathers. I'd love a tutorial on that cute top neckline. I cracked up when you said your husband doesn't have a sense of style & doesn't care, hahahaha! I would be lost without my Sew Sisters! I started sewing about 6 years ago & have made the best sewing friends all over the U.S., Australia & the UK after going to a retreat & watching & learning so much from sewing You Tubers. My life would honestly not be the same without them. I received a Pandora bracelet from a close friend at my small wedding in April of this year with a charm that said 'Friends are the family you choose.' That is especially true with my sewing friends who are the kindest, & most generous, supportive & fun friends. I need to use my machine manuals more!

    You refreshed your hair color. I love it. What seam allowances do you use to sew your three rows of gathering stitches? Yes, I love me a hem band. I have a sew-along/ tutorial for McCalls 8042 on my channel. I made the short sleeve version. I hope we can get together during your August road trip. Trish is so sweet. 💗😘

    • @TodayinJensSewingRoom
      @TodayinJensSewingRoom  2 роки тому

      Hey birthday girl! Hope you had a fantastic trip. I just use my foot to gauge the seam allowances - roughly ¼" apart and the first one is usually about ⅜" from the edge. And I sew right over those lines of stitching, I don't try to go between them or anything. I had forgotten that you had a tutorial for M8042! Now I want to go back and watch it.
      I'm really hoping we can connect in August. I'll text you. xox

    I love my sewing group and my knitting group! I can always go to someone to get advice! It’s truly a blessing!
    I finished two shirts and now I’m back to dresses. I hate searching for detail items that are stuck in my head, because it’s always 5% chance I will find it. So now I must figure out an alternative plan, meanwhile, a dragonfly flight path has been hand embroidered on and it’s staying. The bright colored button loop needs a button. Was going to be a dragonfly, which I thought I’d find something that wasn’t a button but would work. 😕 I’m in limbo until I can get somewhere bigger. 😊 But only for the button! I can still sew on it! Lol!
    Happy sewing!
