Hi. When Jason said the pineapple was sour, I noticed the pineapple that was on the back counter was very green so I went back in the video to see if the one you cut up was that green and it was. Green pinapples are not ripe. We wait until they turn almost orange before cutting them up and they are sooo sweet then. I'd be interested to know how a more ripe pineapple would taste freeze dried.
I noticed that too. Where I came from, we consume a lot of pineapple (we call it ananas), I never saw green pineapple though, so I thought these were different 'variety', LOL. We also do not eat the core. Even on ripe pineapples, the core is hard and tasteless or sour. We use it as meat tenderizer (in the marinade). If the frozen-dried (ripe) pineapples are too strong-flavored, pulverize it and use the powder in a drink or sauce, or make ice-cubes.
Hi Brooke! When using printed cotton for curtains, I found that using just a plain white or ivory to back eliminated the sun fade or at least slowed it tremendously.
I agree@@rdyardie ! We all need to spend what we can with small and privately owned American businesses when we can. I miss the small town charm of how my home towns were growing up.
Oh this brings me to memories of my grandmother & great grandmother sitting in a quilting circle with friends making a quilt, quilting on pieces they picked from old blankets, clothes, etc. they made beautiful quilts all by hand, I treasured them, passing to my kids. I’m 63 & my mom use to sew so much, made our clothes, doll clothes, everything! She would love this shop! Thanku Brooke, please learn quilting & sewing, you will treasure it!! I will watch Miss Penny’s channel. Much love to you & all the babies on the farm!🤗🙏❤️🐾🐐🐂🐕🐷🐮🦆🐓❤️❤️💐
Hi Brooke! I love all of your freeze drying ideas. BUT...I believe your issue with the pineapples is because yours were not ripe enough, they were too green. Maybe try one more ripe. Just a thought. Love you guys!!
Hello, I hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness, prosperity, love , and peace all over the world 🌏. Hi Brooke I hope you're having a wonderful day. DeeDee is such a cutie pie and she's your little shadow that's so adorable. I enjoyed this video love that Mary Carl is going to teach you how to sew can't wait to see the curtains Catch you on the next one God bless❤❤❤❤
I love that little cutie too... Brooke will be forever on my list of extra special folks, if only for her dedication to saving the 2 big boys, the kittens and now with little DeeDee. Those are just the most recent additions. ❤
Brooke you need to let the pineapple get really ripe. It will smell yummy. Then cut it in chunks to freeze dry. It’s magnificent. My favorite fruit to do. ❤
Lol the rocks hurt her little feet. She is feeling so much better so fast is because she knows LOVE! You may never know anything about her past or how sad she was when she landed at your driveway, but she feels safe and loved now and won’t be abandoned again. She is so cute the way she is strutting along beside you. “ I don’t know what we are going to do Mom but I’m ready to help and protect you”.
Brooke, I think if your pineapples were more ripe, you would have enjoyed them better after freeze drying. I said to myself when you were peeling the pineapples, that they weren't ripe enough. I think you should give it another try with pineapples that are more ripe. I think you would be surprised and enjoy them. 😊
I agree with you completely and thought the same thing when I saw her cutting it. And I think that if she had tasted it before freeze dried it she could have compared it. Just a thought.
I respect that Brooke always takes the time to promote others who are in business in her area. She and Jason help so many others with their generous hearts.

DeeDee is definitely your dog and I am so happy you rescued her. Brooke you just amaze me with all your energy. There is a window film you can put on your windows to help with the sun from fading curtains, etc. I sewed curtains for my bathroom and kitchen and used to sew all my clothes when I was in high school. Need to let pineapple get riper
DEEDEE is precious and god bless you for saving her. You can tell she is so happy n grateful and she stays with you because you are her savior. I wouldn’t let you out if my sight either. Just think about it. In her mind if she’s NOT WITH YOU she’s on the street. SOOOO us be glue. Bahahaha
I am glad Dee Dee gets along with the Cats so well, Oh yum Pine apple, I love to sew, and curtains are some of the easiest things a beginner can do. I love quilting too I will visit Sew Charming Quilt Shop sights they sound like something I will like to see. God bless you all and take care.
The pineapple probably need to be more ripe, they are ripe when the pineapple turns yellow, green needs a few more days to ripen up - have fun - love all that you and your family do
Loved the tour of the see shop .. enjoyed meeting Penny and Emmalee ! Very quaint shop, wish it was closer ! The classes would be (sew) fun . Loved the fabric you picked out , can’t wait to see the curtains made for the canned ham ! I hope you try a ripe pineapple next time !
Hey Brooke. If you let the pineapple ripen some more and then try it again. When the pineapple turns yellow/brown it is ripe. God bless you and your amazing family. 🙋🏻♀️♥️🇺🇸
Miss Brooke, I am loving how you are giving the women doing business in your area a fantastic way to get the word out to a greater audience. 👍👍👍👍👍. 🤗❤️🌈🕊️
Thank you sooo much for coming to see us and for this video. We LOVE your videos. We can't wait to see your curtains. And now you have my wanting to freeze dry some foods! Great idea to add to trail mix!
Your pineapple showed be a lot more yellow. When it is dark green as the one on the counter does look ripe. Google ripe pineapple. Love the fabric. Be patient with MaryCarl and take your time. Then this winter you can learn to sew up you a beautiful quilt. When the Jelly Rolls gone on sale would be a perfect time to by the fabric. You would enjoy sewing. Take your time and listen to MaryCarl and watch what she is doing. You got this, we have confidence in you and Mary Ca to accomplish this.
Start you a couple pineapple plants using the tops. Use a large planter for each top; fill it with potting soil, add an apple to the potting soil 3 to 4;below where you will place the pineapple. Place the pineapple top in the soil, cover the base with 3 to 4’ of soil. Water. Then, water as needed. The apple, as it deteriorates will emit gases that the pineapple needs to grow. Every time I have to repot because of growth, I again add an apple to the soil in the same manner as when originally started.
The Canned Ham is going to be so cute. I knew that pineapple🍍was going to be sour, as soon as I saw them I said no Brooke they're not ripe😱. I love pineapple and I let them sit out at room temperature until they change color and become golden(🍍see) and you can easily pull a leaf out the top. I like the juice to be running out as I'm slicing it. Maybe if you make them again you can take the slices and roll them in sugar before freeze drying... Don't give up on the pineapple...
Great content! So glad MaryCarl is teaching you how to sew! I love sewing! So happy for you! I enjoyed the visit to the shoppe! Very nice people! I love y'all so much!
My mother used to do all those activity with quilts. She used to sale those materials to the Americans in Cuba. That was a long time ago. Today I am almost 70 years old.
When I took sewing in high school, my mom would be my critic. Often, she would say your teacher can't sew!! In fact she would make me rip out hems & seams and make me do it over. But later on in my adult life a good friend of mine gave me a Singer 503 model just like my mom had. She said if you can fix it you can have it. Well I tell you I sewed many quilts, curtains, my wedding dress & made welding shirts for my husband & myself. It's more fun to do things right when there aren't critics in the room. I think you will be pleased with your sewing project. Take your time and don't go to fast. It's so fulfilling when you make your own!! Good luck.❣🌴
Love to sew, you know my plan was to make a quilt back in mid 70's when kids went to school. It's 2023 and I have yet to make a quilt. But back then I made me and kids matching outfits.
I usually let me pineapple ripen in the window until it is yellow at least halfway up. So much sweeter and less sensitive to the teeth. They pick them so green and they have more sour to them. Can’t wait to see the curtains.
I quilted for many years, I started sewing when I was 12, 60 years ago. Made many sets of curtains, they are so easy, straight lines! You will do great, Brooke! Have fu!🤗💖

Mrs Brooke, the pineapples that you cut up had not ripened yet, When you buy them green, you have to let them ripen to a golden Yellow before cutting them up for their maximum sweetness, that's why the green ones you cut up and freeze dried were sour! Another thing, you can use those ripened tops of the Pineapple to grow your own pineapple plants in old Mineral tubs! You cut the crowns about 3 inches from the tops, and plant them tops, trim back 2-3 layers of the bottom leaves that are damaged or bent towards the crown base and of course leave the center leaves alone! I live in North Florida and have them planted in my Sunny South facing flower beds up next to my house! When I buy Pineapples, I make sure the center top leaves are not broken off the leaf trunk, because otherwise rooting will not be successful! I bought 5 Delmonte Gold pineapples and only successfully rooted 4, because on the 1, it's center was broke inside and I didn't realize it, till the center of it started to go to mush! So just bury the top up to where the leaf stalk starts into a 1/2 peat moss 1/2 compost mixture and water them in good! Keep them well watered until the roots get established, they Do excellent in the ground with good soil and 4"=6" mulch layer around them! In a bought a year or 2 that plant will grow wider and up to about 2 to 2 1/2 ft. tall and will start producing Baby Pineapples! Hope this helps you! Don't give up on the freeze dried pineapple, you just have to make sure they are ripened golden yellow first! Love Ya! Looking forward to learning how to sew them new curtains with ya!
I think if you tried with a more ripe pineapple it would be sweet.looks like the one you cut was a little green. Not criticizing at all, just suggesting.❤️🙏
Brooke, when I buy fresh pineapples, AND they are green, I put them on the counter at room temp for at least 4 days till they turn more golden and when you smell the bottom of the pineapple, you can smell pineapple. Then they are ripe and sweet. Prior to that, they are sour. Let it ripen first, then freezedry.
What an enjoyable visit that was to the quilt shop.I sewed a lot when my kids were little & made so many things. I loved to crochet & do counted cross stitch, but I have arthritis in my hands & have a difficult time doing any type of handwork. I love fabic shops & anything to do with sewing or crafting & wish I could still be creative. I could look at a bolt of fabric & know immediately how it would look when made into a piece of clothing. I had twin girls & when they were little, I dressed them alike & had to sew 2 of evrything, but I still enjoyed it. Curtains are a good thing to start learning to sew . I wish you & Mary Carl a fun experience with it!! It's a shame your pineapple didn't do well in the freeze dryer. I don't know if pineapple freezes in a regular freezer very well. Try grilling pineapple in a pan after you take it out of the fridge, or warm it up a little in the microwave. It is yummy. A toasted ham, cheese & pineapple sandich is really delicious!
Hey Brooke! If you add a Backing to your Curtains, They won't Fade out! It'll also show your pretty pattern on your material better! Just use a white piece of cloth to put on the back! That's if you want to. It only takes a few minutes! Mary Carl will be plum tickled to show and teach you to sew. It's so easy and so much fun! Good Luck! Much Love to you 3... God Bless. 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
My mom and I owned a drapery workroom for 25 years. Seeing all the things in Sew Charming quilt shop gives me fond memories of all the time spent with momma making everything imaginable. Can’t wait to see your sewing lesson.

Way to go Mary Carl! Tell your mom if she can drive she can sew. And we all know how much she loves to drive. And we want to see this on video! Jan, an Oklahoma sewer!
Brooke I love the material you choose and it will go perfectly with the cushions in the camper and I love it that Mary Carl is going to teach her mommy to sew, how beautiful is that. Have a lovely week end.
Brooke, I think you will like sewing! There is a lot of prep like pre-washing material (if it is washable and might shrink like cottons); ironing the material to make it look nicer once sewn, and little things like that. You don't have to do it all at once either. You can do parts of the project and set it aside for other things that are priority and then come back when you can to finish! I like sewing, but these days I am busy just keeping gardens alive!
Sewing has been my thing since I was 9 years old I worked in RV and mobile home furniture factories sewing upholstery fabrics for around 20 years then after 2 years as stay at home to recuperating from auto accident and rheumatic arthritis I got a job in a clothing outlet store repairing clothing and alterations for an awesome Christian family 14 years. Then I had to quit to take care of my husband who had a ruptured brain aneurysm untill he passed. I am now disabled and soon to be 80. I still love sewing.
ALSO- had you tried the pineapple before you freeze dried it? I had one the other day that was the MOST SOUR pineapple I’ve ever had in my life. I’m wondering if mine was completely unripe to begin with, and had it been ripened, it would’ve been sweeter. Maybe the same with yours.
Sorry to say, but that pineapple was not ripe , it’s supposed to be completely yellow all over and would have been so much sweeter. Also you can grow your own, just twist the top green part out and place in some water near kitchen window and it will put on roots. ❤️
If they are green they are not ripe. They are ripe when a golden yellow color. Choose ones that have some yellow coloring if available. 🍍 To ripen a pineapple turn it upside down with the leaves down & put it in pitcher & set it somewhere like a corner on the counter & leave for several days or ask long as necessary for it to turn a golden yellow. Then it is ripe.
I love videos with freeze dry experiments, I love Brooke sharing local businesses & I just love Brooke isn't afraid to share when she doesn't know something. 'Everyone' is an expert in everything these days, which just isn't true & this silly image people try to adopt is incredibly unrealistic. I love Brooke's authenticity & honesty and desire to learn new things & share with us. And lastly, I love the fabric choice! ❤
One thing I would recommend when you’re doing pineapple, make sure the pineapple is over ripe because I found it works better and the flavor is more sweeter
Good for you supporting local businesses, it’s a kind thing to do. Looks like you’re getting the Canned Ham ready for the meet & greet at Petals from the Past 👏.

Get your freeze dryer upgraded... they have a 5 drawer upgrade now so you can show that to people.
My grandmother taught me that backing your curtains with a plain fabric like calico/muslin reduces fading in the printed stuff.
I so love Brooke, she definitely has a place in my heart 💜 She’s smart, kind, brave and her compassion for animals is really something.
Me too, she and Jason are special people.
Love both of them also and Mary Carl..wonderful family..love their videos..
And MaryCarl as well.. just a lovely girl! Jason and Brooke have every right to be so proud of her!
They don’t look ripe yet! I think that they are supposed to be yellow and brown on the outside. I wonder if the pineapple will turn out sweet?
I so agree
Your pineapples prior to cutting, look a little green to me. Maybe that’s why it is sour. I love your fabric choice for the canned ham curtains.
I thought so as well. Maybe taste the pineapple before you freeze dry it?
Correct. I let mine ripen on out sun covered porch . It’s my favorite fruit to freeze dry. ❤
The pineapples were sour because they weren’t ripe yet. They’d be so much sweeter if you let them go until they start to turn gold.
Just wondering if the pineapple freeze dried was sour due to the acidity…
I noticed that too. Where I came from, we consume a lot of pineapple (we call it ananas), I never saw green pineapple though, so I thought these were different 'variety', LOL. We also do not eat the core. Even on ripe pineapples, the core is hard and tasteless or sour. We use it as meat tenderizer (in the marinade).
If the frozen-dried (ripe) pineapples are too strong-flavored, pulverize it and use the powder in a drink or sauce, or make ice-cubes.
I agree! The pineapple that was freeze dried was definitely green. That is why it was sour.
Deedee looks so pretty and shiny. God bless you for keeping her and taking such good care of her. The first time I saw her my heart was stolen.
There's NOTHING more grateful in this world than a RESCUED ANIMAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Brooke! When using printed cotton for curtains, I found that using just a plain white or ivory to back eliminated the sun fade or at least slowed it tremendously.
That's what I would do too! Also, makes it more private, sort of like blackout curtains. Depends how thick the fabric backing is. 😊
That is a quaint Sewing Shop. It is nice to see the small shops succeed. Thank you for sharing the shop with us today.
Put some tinted film on the camper windows..should help keep the sun and heat out somewhat. Also, just use a flat white sheet to line your curtains.
Love quilt shops. So much fun!
I agree@@rdyardie ! We all need to spend what we can with small and privately owned American businesses when we can. I miss the small town charm of how my home towns were growing up.

I thought the same.. the Pineapple were very very green.
I was thinking the same thing. I would definitely try again with a riper pineapple.
I was thinking the same thing. Also, make sure to cut the core out of the pineapple. The core is generally more sour and tougher.
I agree with you completely and thought the same thing when I saw her cutting it. And I think that if she had tasted it before freeze dried it she could have compared it. Just a thought.

Dee Dee is sooo very happy & looking beautiful 😻 ❤👍🏼
Good Morning Brooke…thanks for another adventurous day on the farm❤
I've done pineapple several times, it's delicious! But you have to start with a ripe pineapple that is very sweet. It's actually one of our favorites.
I’m a seamstress and love sewing, quilt maker also. I hope you grow to love sewing, it brings me joy.
You are so generous rehoming so many animals. Bless you.
I think it's hilarious that you have that T-shirt that says "Hanging in there like hair on a biscuit" and you have a kitten named "Biscuit"
Bless you for taking such good care of DeDe 🧡
I love little DeDe. You will be blessed.
Dee Dee is loking great, she is a great dog.
God Bless. 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
That backsplash is kitchen goals! Such a nice backdrop to videos!
My mom and I owned a drapery workroom for 25 years. Seeing all the things in Sew Charming quilt shop gives me fond memories of all the time spent with momma making everything imaginable. Can’t wait to see your sewing lesson.
So love that the daughter is teaching the Mom 💗
Hello, I hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness, prosperity, love , and peace all over the world 🌏. I would love us to be good friends in honesty and in trust so as time goes on it will bring something great for us in the future, hope you don't mind? I'm Thaoms Gabriel from Brooklyn New York, where are you from if I may ask?❤
I saw so many gorgeous swatches in this video! 😄👍
Brooke did it again, she knows her viewers 🕊
Way to go Mary Carl! Tell your mom if she can drive she can sew. And we all know how much she loves to drive.
And we want to see this on video!
Jan, an Oklahoma sewer!
Have fun with your sewing lessons. I know you will be successful.
Have a great day!😊
Brooke you’re doing so well on your own now! I feel like I’m watching a real tv show!! 💜
Good morning Brooke. 👍👍❤️❤️🇨🇦
Brooke, I do enjoy your videos so much. Thanks for brightening my day.
Good luck on your sewing lessons.
I so love both your channels. Also I ordered a Jessie shirt! Can’t wait to get it in! God bless your sweet family and precious animals.
That is neat hearing Marycarl is going to be teaching her mom to sew.
I was thinking the same thing...be interesting to try again but with a taste test first! Brooke is so awesome 💕
It's DeeDee and her prancing is so sweet
Great color choice fabric. They’ll be beautiful. Great quilt shop!!! I love fabric. I’m a MODA snob!!!! LOL
Enjoy sewing with your favorite buddy!!❤️
Love yah Brooke you are so generous & caring
Hey Brooke 😊 if you line your new curtains it will protect them from fading 😊
Love that fabric it’s so cute and cheerful
DeeDee looks younger now. She has a smile on her face and a spring in her step.
Brooke, I really enjoy watching you.
Hey Brooke, put some window tint you get at Lowe's like they put in cars. It will help your curtains not to fade.
Try planting the pineapple tops to grow pineapple plants, you never know! Also love everything going on!
Brooke if pineapple wasn’t what you wanted ,try grinding it into powder,Use it for coughs and lung clearing,Just add to water add honey
Great idea with the sour green pineapple 👍
I love quilts! I have not heard of the shop, thanks for sharing the link. Thank you for giving DeeDee a loving home. ❤
That quilt she showed you would go really cute in your camper. The colors are there. I love your Jessie shirt
Brook it is wonderful you are going to learn to sew. There is so many benefits to learning.
Brooke you are amazing in all you do! I love how you have an following where ever you go on Cov Hill! 😍 How much fun learning too sew.
Nice first project with straight edges! Bonne chance! 💕🇨🇦
I love her shop!! The jelly roll quilting is very interesting!
