Just stayed over the weekend, mid-November. Ice cold on the lake at night, 2” of snow…but absolutely serene. So cool being all alone in the middle of the great Sierras.
Unfortunately this channel hasn’t reached the monetized level yet so nothing to be made here. Luckily 4wp replaced the tire and I had purchased a spare rim off of eBay so the really banged up one is off the truck. I did buckle the front driver side fender so that’s a bummer.
Hey man, I've recently watched a couple of your videos, and subscribed. Your truck is nice, I like the Canyons. I bought a lightly used Frontier last Feb, and I'm starting to build it out a bit. Looking forward to more of your content!
Thanks for checking out the video Jeremiah! Yeah, that drive in was not what I was expecting. Hope you had a great time once you got up there - it really is a beautiful area.
Diesel heater worked very well - but I'm thinking a heated blanket might be the way to go - that's what my buddy was using and he said it was pretty nice.
Look at you, already getting UA-cam famous lol How was that Morning Glory Oatmeal? you should start doing some detailed reviews of all these freeze dried meals you been trying out haha, id be interested to hear which ones are good and how they look when its all cooked 😁
Yeah that was pretty crazy and unexpected! On the oatmeal, yeah that was pretty bad and I didn't finish it. I suppose I should have captured that "review" but I was just really done and tired at that point.
Yeah it was a little unnerving. When I got home I also realized I had damage to the driver side front fender panel. And various scratches all over. Not super bad but just reinforce the “I was wouldn’t have done it” thought
Yeah it wasn’t too bad. If you peel back the flap you can see the inner tire which made me nervous. I hear you the move I’m away from that trip the better the memory!!! Lol
Outstanding! I hope you have a great time. Just don't be a knucklehead like me (going alone) and take a spotter with you! I'd love to hear your thoughts of that trail once you get back Ventura Hondo!
Made this trip a few years ago before I had even made the first payment on my new full size. Left with some damaged skid-plates and some good pin-striping. It's beautiful up there, but if the altitude doesn't get ya, the rock garden will.
Yeah that rock garden wasn't a lot of fun. There was one guy up there when I was there and he said he high centered on the rocks and some jeep guys were able to get him unstuck. I was kind of worried about the altitude but I guys it doesn't bother me as much as I would have expected. 10k is pretty high though.
It just stressed me out heading up there. It is a beautiful location but I definitely took trail damage on my truck. It’s weird because my memory now is less of the stress and how cool it was.
At the end you say you went by funnel creek, do you mean coyote creek? Did you take the Coyote Canyon Trail to get back to Bishop? I'm attempting this alone, just curious if that's the road you're saying you wouldn't do alone again. Thanks.
I said funnel creek? I meant Funnel Lake - in the middle section there is some footage there - but there was someone already there so I backtracked and sayed off of 2E303A. The route I took up cross over Coyote Creek. That was the route I was saying I didn't really enjoy. But here's the interesting part, when I made that video I meant what I said but I almost went up there a few weeks ago with a buddy. So here's my thought, if you haven't done it I'd do it just to experience it. That is the only trail I've done that I actually damaged stuff on the truck. Like all the rims, tires gouged, and a ding to the front fender. The guy I met up there at funnel lake said earlier he got high centered on some rocks (that I also went over) and some jeepers had to pull him off. The next day I met up with him again, helped him turn around on the triple diamond part of the the trail, and after we parted waits I heard from him that he got stuck on a different part of the trail and then caught the rear bumper on a rock and ripped part of it off. If you know your rig and are comfortable and can keep yourself out of getting into a pickle you should be alright. IDK let me know if that made any sense or if it just made you more confused.
@@dustyroaddestinations Thanks for the reply. Appreciate the war stories. Sounds like both a fun trip and a stressful one. I may not brave it alone, and if I do I won't bring my little off-road trailer. I have been pouring over the satellite imagery and mapping trails in that region and the sheer number of offshoots and side trails make it difficult to use UA-cam as a guide to get an honest assessment of things. There are just so many different trails that all zig zag and intersect that watching clips its hard to say where people are. I watched this video: ua-cam.com/video/OdrB60QG_A4/v-deo.htmlsi=Qm8cUdnh7KdDFONv These guys tried to get into Bishop via 303 and it didn't go well. I think I'll plan to stick to Coyote Valley Road (306) and if I'm feeling brave take the north loop of 304 that slips off just before the lake. From what I can tell it's the more challenging of the 2 roads into the lake.
Oh yeah, THAT video! That is the spot I tried to go out, couldn't make it pass and turned around. Someone had stolen that triple diamond sign so I didn't see that. I had to turn around by myself on that part of the trail. That was a VERY slow process. I absolutely wouldn't go that way out or in unless I was in a rock crawler (which I don't have) and other people were with me. I came in on the south loop of 304 and went out the north side. When I was there during this video the smaller water pool (showing in gaiagps) blocked the last part of 304 that goes into Funnel Lake so that was 'fun' - that bypass was where the other guy high centered his Tacoma. When you get back I'd love to hear about your experience!!! It really is beautiful up there.
@@dustyroaddestinations I can't imagine turning around right there. Talk about stressful! I've got a trip planned up near Reno in 2 weeks and then I'll do Coyote Flats this fall. I'll let you know how it goes!
Can you give me a time stamp? More than likely it was a Yaesu FTM300 or FTM500 mobile radio which is an amateur radio but I do have both a amateur and gmrs license.
@@dustyroaddestinations 4:29. I do trail work as a volunteer up there and lost a radio about the time your video was made. Realized it was gone by the Patterson mill water crossing. Wouxan gmrs. Should have had silver sharpie with info on it.
Oh right - I forgot about that section - it wasn't a radio it was basically trash. Kind of looks like a radio. Seemed like some stuff had bounced off someone's rig. That's a bummer about your radio - wouxans and pretty nice radios!

Oh man sorry I thought I replied to all the comments! Yeah there is definitely a payoff for making that trip! It must have been really great - and quiet. - with it snowing!

Sounds like an outstanding trip!!! I always like it when no one else is around!!!
Got the notice and jumped over. Beautiful hills in the background
Thanks so much Tim I really appreciate you always being on the lookout for a new video! Especially since I'm a week late! Hope you enjoy this one! 😀
Glad to see you having fun. Great video. Hope it makes enough for the tire and wheel…

Always love these videos. Thank you!
Thanks so much for watching @itumblers!
Duane happy for you . Thank you for sharing your adventures , place seems very serene .
Thanks so much for watching! It was, once I finally got there! That trail up was a little intense for me though!

Thanks so much jmathre I really appreciate the support! Sounds like you’re going to have fun with that Frontier! Those are good trucks!
Been many years since I’ve camped at Funnel Lake. Long slow drive. I went by myself too and felt the same way. Great video and adventure bro!
Thanks for checking out the video Jeremiah! Yeah, that drive in was not what I was expecting. Hope you had a great time once you got up there - it really is a beautiful area.
Now I've found you! Just got back from my trip - it was another good one - albeit a cold couple of days!
I knew it was gonna be cold. Glad you had a good trip!

Great scenery Duane.
Thanks so much! It was really beautiful up there!
Great video Duane!
Thanks for watch Mike! Hopefully one of these days I can bring you with me!
Looked like an awesome trip! Was this recent?
It was October 8th so earlier this month. Thanks for checking it out!

Have you tried Mohogany smoked meats in bishop? Good sandwiches and smoked meats.
Oh man that sounds REALLY good. I’ll have to stop there then next time I come through!!! Thanks for the recommendation and for checking out the video!
Ohh Yeah!!!! They have some great stuff. I picked up some smoked bacon and we mad BLT sandwiches with it, mmm!!
Definitely an adventure. 🤗🛻🏞🏕🪵🌄⚙️
It really was! Hope you’re feeling better Cindy!
@@dustyroaddestinations thank you. Getting there. 😉
Glad to hear!

Gorgeous!
It was pretty nice up there.
Man! That opening shot! That and some others in this video you should sell as stock!
Thanks Richard! Hmm, I should look into that! Hope you're doing good Richard!
Subscribed! I see you do UA-cam too 🤘🏽. I have to go back and find that waterfall
You should! It's a beautiful area back there and a drive up 395 is ALWAYS a good drive!!!
