Hey Allen. I have never fitted one of the Logic Max boilers but have serviced plenty. I do love the user interface on these and think that it is so far, the best I have come across.
Can’t go wrong with the new BAXI range in my opinion. Used to install Worcester but don’t like plastic components and they are not engineer friendly changing parts etc. How do you find getting fix to plywood?
On the point of the flue it does depend on the boiler manufacturer's instructions for the model. Some will state a certain minimum must be protruding so it can even be longer without issue. Although I think some dubious installers then don't trim it at all.

Brilliant video thank you Allen. And then it needs the loop connection refitting to the room stat connection in the boiler?
I'm wondering the same thing. For the nest installation, do you just run OT1 and OT2 to the open therm terminals on the boiler and leave a wire link across the room stat/timer?

I don’t actually understand the difference between connecting a nest to open therm vs wiring in the normal way. If I want my water 60C then no matter the temp outside it’s always going to reach 60C and nest learns how long it takes a house to get to temp so if it’s colder it knows to start earlier, or am I missing something?
I have just had an Ideal Logic Max fitted to replace my old Potterton Suprima 60 heat only. They have wired up my Nest V3 using the thermostat connections not the OpenTherm and refuse to change it say "it makes no difference, let the boiler modulate" Is this true?

Great boilers but let down with there aluminium Heat exchanger Long term also I know they are built to a cost bud sad to see less brass components and more plastic on all manufacturers boilers.😀
Warren Liversedge You have a choice of Aluminium or Stainless heat exchanger with Ideal Logic/Vogue. Personally I've never had any more problems with aluminium and they are thermally more efficient than stainless for heat transfer. Remember every single Worcester Bosch produced in the last fifteen years or more has an aluminium exchanger, and no stainless option. They seem to have high brand loyalty. The sump problem on Logics was resolved years ago, but there will be legacy problems on older boilers. It's not exactly a difficult job to change the sump anyway. The biggest problem is condensate damage to the boiler casing which can cause premature rust unless you treat it. I used to neutralise and clean, then do a light spray coat of white grease on any parts showing corrosion. I'm now retired....,but still have to watch Allen videos 😃
@@timhancock6626 designed obsolescence Tim 😳🙂 I suppose it keeps the manufacturer turning over more units but remember boilers of old lasted years more which is also great for the fitters ,it’s the customer which loses If you can run your boiler in full condensing mode , which can be difficult but with weather compensation directly modulation of the burner stainless steel is the clear choice.
Why not re-install the Worcester - personally I would not have a Worcester as I will not have boilers with an aluminium heat exchanger and plastics in them. ALL my Worcesters that reached 10 or so years old and just start leaking so I ripped them out.

My ideal boiler logic combi espi 24 . Makes a noise (when not in use) s it sounds like the pump this noise happens at night oddly . The only reason I can hear it is I’ve got an open plan flat. I know it’s nothing bad. I’m curious what it is as I’m looking to become a gas engineer: Thanks for any responses !
Why did you use open therm for heating controls instead of just the normal thermostat connection?
Open therm is energy saving. Thanks.
Bit harsh on the old install, they had got it the right way up. Not much else to recommend it.
😂😂😂I couldn’t believe how out of level it was, The video didn’t do it justice. Thanks.

Brilliant ! most helpful,. thankyou
Hi Allan
Why Nest you connected opentherm ideal logic is not opentherm boiler
Regards
Faruk
Opentherm is better for saving gas. Thanks.
I have just had an Ideal Logic Max fitted to replace my old Potterton Suprima 60 heat only. They have wired up my Nest V3 using the thermostat connections not the OpenTherm and refuse to change it say "it makes no difference, let the boiler modulate" Is this true?
Have Ideal updated the condensate trap and sump on the heat only logic"s yet. Absolute pig getting some of the traps out for cleaning (said British Gas never :))
Hi Allen.
Does c24 max is enough for house 3 bed + living room + 2 baths+kitchen
Depends on the water flow rate. I would normally go for a 30 as a minimum. Thanks.
Hi Allen have you got a video how to install a room thermostat on ideal logic code combi. Thanks in advance.
Are you an ideal man now
As not seen you fitting many baxi now
Hi John. I am not any man. I want this channel to be as balanced as possible and show all brands. It’s important to me to show a raise in standards. Ideally i would like to install a boiler from every brand. Thanks.
Nice neat installation Allen. I’m surprised you didn’t fit in a viessmann 050 or 100 series boiler? Would’ve been a lot better than the ideal and for only a couple of hundred pound more, Shame u didn’t tell us what was wrong with the old installation would’ve been interesting to know
I don’t know what was wrong with the old one. I want to have balance on this channel and show as many boilers as possible installed correctly. Thanks.
Hello Allen, How did u seal the flue on the inside with the ply going up so high?
Hi Ian, Good question, It was a total pain but i removed the flue and bricked it up as much as possible from outside, Then put the flue in and pushed as much compo in as possible. Thanks.
God protect the customer from all those 'qualified/competent' heating engineers! I blame ISO9000 etc., which means that 'qualified' people don't need work checking (in a perfect world).
If Ideal have separated the electrics from the heating, does that mean you can now connect standard cables rather than 'heat resistant'? Great video again.
👍👍👍
Do you need to get your tea to 510 tested every year ?
That's a very good question. I will find out. Thanks
Yes it should be calibrated every year along with your flue gas analyser. As do all other digital manometers.
Great boilers but I’d stay clear of their own controls 👍🏻

Hi I have an ideal boiler with an old thermostat, can I change any digit thermostat or not
I cannot see why not. What boiler is it?
@@AllenHart999 it’s logic combi 24, just checked and there are only 2 wires going into the thermostat, what digit or wireless thermostat would u recommend

Thats a expensive worcester boiler, could it have been reused but just installed correctly?
Thanks for the comment. The boiler has had lots of issues and the customer wanted it replacing.
Ideal vogue is the best mate
Ideal Vogue is a very very good boiler but they are quite a lot more money. Thanks.
Hiya Allen, how have Ideal resolved the sump issue? I stopped fitting Logics because of this and went over to Baxi's.......
The mold is done in a different place now. They have long warranties now as well, Upto 12 years for some installers, Customers need to make sure they service the boiler. Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 Thanks for reply, lets hope they have more luck this time.
@@julianhawker7672 All boilers fail. Hopefully, by installing them correctly they stand a better chance. Time will tell with the sumps i guess,
@@AllenHart999 Agreed, lots of problems I see are down to the original installer :-(
I notice you used a shock arrestor. :-) I buy them from my local plumb ctr and the guys there told me I am the only local guy who buys them, which doesn't bode well for the longevity of the masses of combis they sell to others with water meters being ever more common....................
@@julianhawker7672 This one is the Ideal one. I like them as they come with the pipe. Thanks.
really informative allan awesome x
👍👍
Can I put it on a internal garage outer wall
Hi Alan I know u say check MI but please could u say what boilers are allowed any white as I’m a poor meter maid and love just a rule of thumb of if any are allowed any white🙏🙏
Worcester and Vaillant and glow worm
Let you have white on show
Ideal and baxi don’t!
White on show is poor workmanship in my personal opinion. Doesn’t matter what brand it is. Although some brands allow it. Thanks.
Cheers Alan that usfull info I share that with the lads would it be NCS or AR I say AR as could effect the way it ment to work
@@willbarker8876 That’s a hard one to answer. Engineering judgement really. If there was no damage at all i would just advise customer, If the flue had started to let the water in from the end then maybe AR. On the ideal the end of the flue, the black and white bit need the rubber to seal it correctly. Thanks.
Hi Alan, do you still use loctite 577 and if so where do you buy it from , I’m struggling to find it.
Plumb centre sell it.
Yes i still use it. Thanks.
Are most new boilers now hydrogen ready?
That’s a good question. I believe the answer is no. Thanks.
why nest was put to open therm instead of room stat terminal ??
It’s better for saving energy. Thanks.
@@AllenHart999 cam u please elaborate?
what is the difference ??

Ever tried the nest thermostat e?
No not yet. Are they any good? Thanks.
They seem ok very similar to the Google nest learning thermostat but it's a cheaper option it comes built-in with a stand and the front part is plastic so it's a cheaper option it's probably about£100 cheaper if you buy the original and the stand
Good boiler like u say nice & easy fit, not a fan of the nest but thats my opinion as its tied to google, prefer the honeywell t6r personally.
@@nindes I will look into them. Thank You.
@@stephenpyrek4726 Hi Stephen, And thank you for sharing your opinion, Have you tried the Ideal thermostat that's built in? Thanks.
Great boilers but let down with there aluminium
Heat exchanger Long term also I know they are built to a cost bud sad to see less brass components and more plastic on all manufacturers boilers.😀
The plastics in the Viessmann Boilers seem to do ok. These will hopefully be fine as well with the mini shock. Thanks.
@@timhancock6626 designed obsolescence Tim 😳🙂
I suppose it keeps the manufacturer turning over more units but remember boilers of old lasted years more which is also great for the fitters ,it’s the customer which loses
If you can run your boiler in full condensing mode , which can be difficult but with weather compensation directly modulation of the burner stainless steel is the clear choice.
@@AllenHart999 Viessmann cope well because the manufacturer have a inbuilt mini shock arrestor 👌
👏
👍👍👍👍
Why not re-install the Worcester - personally I would not have a Worcester as I will not have boilers with an aluminium heat exchanger and plastics in them. ALL my Worcesters that reached 10 or so years old and just start leaking so I ripped them out.
It wasn’t worth repairing to be honest. Thanks.
