When I'm down to "last hit" I can literally feel the endorphins hit my brain and I start to play differently. I wish I could play like my "last hit" self during the entirety of a match. It's definitely an endorphin release that does it.
Sometimes taking damage is the correct thing to do, depending on the game. Like the old kof games, wakeup backdash would mean if you did get hit, you'd air-reset. Or in marvel, you can tag into a projectile and not eat a full combo. When you're 1 hit away you obviously can't do this, and you also have to take bigger risks to avoid things like chip-death.
I have the same feeling, only with great matches. I've found when we're both in the low health situations I tend to perform better than my opponent I just don't crack
Snake is just on another level still doing crazy stuff to this day Not sure how much smash/melee you pay attention to but Evo 2016 GFs and Smash Summit 11 GFs come to mind as legendary comebacks at the biggest stage (both end up going to game 10)
I was gonna say it’s a crime that summit 11 isn’t on here. Winning Two games on FD as Fox against the greatest marth that hasn’t lost a set to a fox in 2 years, let alone lost a game on FD in who knows how long. Truly up there with the rest of these, even surpassing some.
My favorite comeback has to be Reynald vs Jonathan Tene at the 2020 DBFZ National Championship. Reynald was up 4-1 and needed one hit to win the tourney but tried to style on Jonathan by hitting Roshi's command grab to kill. He whiffed, and Jonathan proceeded to not only win the match, tied the score and then WON the final match of the tournament (with a rage quit from Reynald). Best comeback can also be the worst choke
Can I suggest Evo 2014 BlazBlue Grand Finals? Dogura has the event won multiple times, yet Garireo manages to hold on and turn it around EVERY time. It’s crazy, and was edge of the seat excitement the whole time!
@@shobooknight it’s a core memory for me, as I was at the venue and the energy there was insane. You could feel this collective moment of everyone holding their breath thinking “is this it? Is it over?” only for Garireo to clutch it out time after time.
Worth noting that @11:34, the c.HP from Psylocke onto Cyclops was unblockable. Canceling Gene Splice into Super Optic Blast like that puts you into normal jump state (where you're limited to one action) and the super itself was the one action so Cyclops literally could not block that attack.
I remember watching the Snake Eyez comeback when it happened. I still think it's probably the most impressive comeback I've seen. On a side note, it's weird being nostalgic for SF4. Maybe it's because I got into fighting games properly around the end of AE2012 and the start of Ultra but it feels like yesterday and forever ago at the same time.
I was there for the Sleep comeback, and the room was absolutely exploding. They had the subs turned up to a million so that every hit shook the whole room. It was awesome.
@jmcrofts The Wong 1 pixel Cable comeback vs Desmon "The Xecutioner" is still the best comeback I have ever seen in a fighting game. It eclipses Justin Wong's Cyclops' comeback easily and Justin had to play absolutely perfect to win due to having 1 pixel of health vs 3 characters, especially vs Storm w/ meter and hail. You should do a deep dive analysis on the intricacies of Justin's neutral in that match. Absolutely insane.
This was the match I instinctly thought of when I saw the title. That match was the most legendary comeback I think I have ever seen. Pure hype. The fact that it is not on jmcrofts list is nothing short of shocking.
@@Teslamuffin Absolutely. A new job prevented me from going to Evo that year, and I remember watching from my couch. I had never really seen BB before, but I was losing my mind for the entire set. When the finals ended, I hopped right on to my playstation within and bought the game.
What makes that set so insane is Galileo makes a comeback twice. He reset the bracket and then nearly lost again. It was one of the most intense sets I've ever seen, and the way Galileo got the crowd on his side was amazing to see live.
The 3rd strike player Tominaga has some really impressive Makoto comebacks. My favorite is at a more local tourney where he 1v5s a team as the last player
The cool thing to see about GO1 patience, which might also play into how he got his hit later: in this version of tge game Bardock lariat jails into vanish. He lands this and is 100% plus - but he chooses to dash block instead of push. Leffen after the vanish pressed 2l while minus. Its a little bit after that where GO1 gets the hit after a blocked vanish again - might have been scoping Leffens responses earlier. The second vanish is super scary though, GO1 was in a bad spot landing in front of Leffen and used vanish to get out which Leffen could have potentially anti aired and, as mentioned, it can cause vanish to lose its plus frames. Crazy cool sequence to watch
I think the "Mastercup 9 Tekken 7 Fated Retribution 5v5 Grand Finals | Anti-Benkei Vs Team Yamasa" is one to mentioned. This comeback was epic, intense, and very hype.
Jm, what do you think about the kof 13 evo grands where reynald was 2-0 about to get knocked out, and then he switched to nests kyo and and fought back woo and won the next 3 games, reset the bracket, then 3-0d again
If they never nerfed Chun-li, I'm pretty sure Ricky would have taken the 5VS5. By the way @jmcrofts too bad you don't cover much Tekken stuff. There is a guy named Kagemaru, who did the same thing like snake eyes during Tokyo Tekken Mastercup (its also a 5V5). And in the same event a group of Gigas mains (who is the lowest of the low tier) took down the best Korean group at that tourney.
My favorite is knowkami's goku black 3v1 comeback from Evo 2018 when he was facing Kubo. Man was basically one touch from death playing what was a mid tier character at best against a full team
Alright, I’ve seen all of those happen live when they happened(Yes, I’m getting old…), and while Jmcroft tried his best to explain and show those- One key thing about this is missing….. The actual sound, crowd reaction, commentators going wild over the crazy comeback happening on stage! Imo, he should let it play in the background, or show it all, then explain “why” he thinks it’s in his top-5. ‘Cause folks, if you’ve never seen some of those Live/original with sound, it’s A LOT more hype and worth of being in a Top “X”.
To be fair, he did mention towards the end how important the commentary and crowd reaction is towards making a hype moment and he even played the commentary/crowd reactions from a few of them so let’s give credit where it’s due.
GO1 managing to beat the odds is cool, but I have yo say that The 2 feels more like a 1 to me. Even if just the last fight was the only real challenge, it is still so cool Snake Eyez could keep his cool for all those matches to me, when I can barely keep it together for a full set.
Snake eyes comeback was absolutely insane. You know how much mental resilience you need to sit there and do a gauntlet against the best players the region has to offer? Geez
Snake Eyez is probably the best player in the world. Like an anime protag, he's only held back by self-imposed limits, such as using big bodies at all times.
@@XEndlessSteelX Snake Eyez is amazing with Gief, but that doesn't mean that if he switched to a top tier he would suddenly win every tournament. It just doesn't work that way. How can you say Snake Eyez has more skill than them.
What’s also crazy about the Justin Wong MvC2 comeback is when Justin kills Megneto with the charge back cancel into super, he had just built exactly enough meter to pull the super.
During the Norcal BlueRevo event, Dacidbro had an amazing comeback taking out all of the opposing team with a OCKO. A japanese team took out CopperDabbit and Apologyman and then Dacidbro steamrolled through them.
JWong Vs Chris G in Evo Marvel grand finals will live in my memories forever. The thumbnail for the memory is wolverine's cr.M counterhitting Vergil's Helmbreaker on incoming.
People disrespect smash, but top level smash (especially melee) require frame perfect inputs and crazy reaction, more so than most fighting games. And Leffen’s story is crazy, he is a genius and puts in the time and effort.
Honda was going for walk up Command Grab, more than likely cancel of a button, slightly miss timed allows Snake Eyes to hit a brazen Wake Up SPD. That's my guess anyways, or he was baiting a Back Dash that he planned to option select. Imagine his shock when he was hit with wake up SPD!
Leffen vs Pepperysplash in his evo run in 2023 is up there, he was a pixel away from being sent to losers and potentially not winning his GGST Evo title off that set
I think Snake_Eyez did a double reverse OCV if I'm remembering correctly and if not it's my favorite video of all time! I watch it at least once a month still.
😂 Zangief is such a hype character to watch just because he’s at such a disadvantage against a lot of characters that can keep him out. For Snake to 1v5 all of them with Gief is literally having your cake and eating it too 😂 “Look at this body of Iron!!”
My two greatest comebacks ever was on ultimate mortal Kombat 3 in a sports card shop called Grand slam in Loveland Colorado and they happened back to back! Both comebacks was versus the owner of the shop LOL, I was playing as Liu Kang versus robotic smoke and he had me nearly at a double flawless in round two but I came back and beat him even though he was invisible before I landed my first hit... I beat him in round 3 to complete the comeback so he kicked me off the machine and said I could never play again... So I get back in line to play him again LOL, I get back up and he chooses Shiva so I choose Liu Kang again... Same thing happened again!! He nearly had to double flawless in round two and tried to do Shiva head stomp so I just pushed the high punch button thinking the match was over but she clipped through me and the stomp never connected... He says "holy I've seen it all!" As I connect with Liu kang's 8 hit combo... He tries another head stomp and I push high punch again causing him to clip through me again so he says "holy I've seen it all again!!" As I connect with another 8 hit combo... I finish him off in round 3 completing the comeback and he literally never let me play on that machine ever again lol!! 😂
