I have a feeling that this is one of those really upbeat songs that have messed up lyrics, but I don't get them so I can't say for sure.
+Giraffe Of Death Basically all Tally Hall songs have dark undertones though x'D So probably a good chance
EmeraldFox11 I mean, usually the endings make me think that. Like if this didn't end with the guy getting shot then I would think it was just a cute song.
+Giraffe Of Death The song is basically saying that It's best to govern yourself and have the people rule. No one's better than you, it shows a political figure telling people that he's not the best at ruling, the people are, and that's the truth. In the end, if you tell people the truth, someone will try and stop you to keep things how they are, thus we have assassination to keep peoples mouth shut. It is a pretty dark song, but it's really great.
I don't think the lyrics are all that dark really
Freakles if you look on Genius lyrics, it says this song is about someone the singer loves. Of course you can think of it in different ways, but I like to think about it that way though lol.
The basic allegory and prose that the best leaders are the ones that allow you to self govern, and that they will always have a gun pointed at them for saying the truth. Pretty sophisticated yet oh powerful of a message.
Interesting
donald trump
Soul Yukon No. Self governmening is a biiiiig mistake. We wouldn't be this far if our founding fathers didn't turn their back on it. There are too many problems that correspond with self government. The important part of the song is that no ones better than YOU, the citizens. Everything should be done in your favor, and not the governments own self interest. At least that's what I think.
He does.
Very interesting
I really love this song
Hey
I find it very hard to go though the album without replaying this song once or twice. It's such a great song.
Wow checkmark!!!!!

Same man, this album is so good
This song is absolutely my favorite from Tallyhall. I wouldn't even say it's close. The song is genuinely just so beautiful, and its one of the only songs that makes my cry. I find the music video to be very beautiful, happy, and sad at the same time and its incredible. The symbolism was also great. Thank you Tallyhall for touching my heart with this song.
It's ok to have wrong opinions (Jk, i love this song too, i just don't think it can hold a candle to Ruler of Everything and Turn the Lights Off.)

Lyrics:
There's lots of pretty people here
Sharing sotries and passing letters and
There's lots of questions answered
And metaphysical astronomical songs
Words printed all on papers that
Seem too mystical it's so magical
People that dance and compute that
No one's better than you
There's kings in distant cities
Who rule their persons and make them happy and
We won't forget about all the servisory congratulatory
Even the animals know that
Something's brewing and they're all cooing
'Cause in the end I'd like to say
No one's better than you
I hope you're happy now that I've revealed the truth
I've even written this whole song about you
And not about me
And not about me...
Please don't just laugh and clap right now
This is serious I'm not delirious
I've waited very patiently just to let you know
Who should run this show
'Cause we all know these are the facts
Nothing to retract nothing too abstract
Concluding in this song I'll say
No one's better than you
No one's better than you
No one's better than you

I haven't seen anyone properly decypher the theme of this song yet. Tally hall aren't just musicians- they're poets, so every line counts. If you don't know why a line exists, you're probably missing something. So, I'll share my thoughts;
A lot of people wanna say tally hall is talking about a spouse or something. But in the song, he's not saying 'She/he/they'.
He's saying 'You'.
He's talking to US.
Another thing that's important to remember is that the singer is somebody named Andrew Sotry- a misspelled version of 'Story'. So, the president, or the 'highest office' is the Story. Sotry is also our main singer, who, at the end, is assasinated by a gun that was crafted by the spectator. The viewer is killing the story.
I believe this song is about b everyones individual interpretation of Tally Hall's songs, and how sometimes viewers take themselves too seriously and, once they find a strong interpretation, they put their word for what the song is about as absolute, sharing it and spoiling other people's interpretations of the song. In this, the viewer is assasinating the story by solving it.
"Nothing too abstract" - Sometimes lyrics aren't super deep.
"Please don't laugh or clap right now, this is serious, I'm not delirious" - Many people enjoy the songs and listen to them without thinking too hard about it. In reality, these songs may be a cry for help- not the ramblings of a madman or just another pop song.
"I hope you're happy now, I've revealed the truth. I've even written this whole song about you, and not about me, and not about me" - Ultimately, the person with the most control over a story is the spectator, because they can fill in any gaps they want, and they get to answer all their own questions. Tally hall is basically having the Story say 'Yep, you got me. I'm just a story. And this story isn't about me. Its a story about you.', this also creates some inception, since- if the story is about you... then maybe Andrew Sotry is us, and we're spoiling the song for ourselves by understanding it.
It's like how people thought Banana Man was a song about drugs, but Tally Hall said that it wasn't. Maybe that was just to cause chaos, maybe it was true... but either way, this shows how an incorrect interpretation can spread like a wildfire. Especially with Tally Hall's abstract and symbolic music. "Seems to mystical" = "Seems to miss the goal", maybe this is Tally hall introspecting on how their own themes both inspire others- but can be entirely different from what they intended.
I have more to say; but not off the top of my head. I'll probably edit this comment later and add more. For now, I wanna hear what others have to say about my interpretation.
Underrated comment
@@melodyisheretoo thank you ;-;
this is actually so cool interpretation
I didn't analyze it as much, but when I saw this, my interpretation was that Andrew is a good guy who will tell the public the truths, and do what's best for them. however this is exactly what causes him to get assassinated in the end, essentially saying that most politicians are just in it for themselves, and don't really care about the public. but I dunno I'm not very analytical, I was just thinking within the realm of what we're shown, I think your interpretation is really good too.

I think the meaning is about how politics has shifted away from actual, meaningful, serious discussion and has become more about appealing to the strongest inner force of all; people's egos, as well as how that causes a lot of political violence.
I think Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum is, as an album, about how mankind makes all sorts of delusions and distractions to pull them away from the truth of living
Huey Long was a southern politician in the 30s and 20s he was a left wing populist promoting slogans such as every man a king. He became governor of Louisiana where he began new programs to help approve education and infrastructure in the state. He created the share the wealth program guaranteeing everyone a hosue, radio, and a car. He was rival to FDR for the democratic bid and some claim he was the favorite to win. Unfortunately he was shot before he could have a chance of winning the election. Just thought about him while watching the video a few times over also I recommend looking into him.
I can't escape Huey Long Dong.
@@baron6541 especially when he's right behind
What about William Henry Harrison?
Interesting. Every figure's behavior is determined by outside forces: namely, the creator's push and the gears' inertia. Indeed, both the politician and assassin are ultimately controlled by the same outside forces.
wow I just realised this song (with the video) has three meanings.
The straightforeward, feel good, you're a great person message
The sort of mocking tone, which is only noticed if you precede the 'no-one's better than you' with 'given the choice between you and no-one'
And the message the video gives of a man telling the public they're better than 'kings in distant cities' ,so sort of promoting left-wing politics, and then getting shot for it.

One of my top songs I like
(I posted this as a reply to another comment, but i wanted to make it my own comment too)
I think that for Tally Hall, the music videos and songs have a big disconnect from each other. They have similar themes, but I don't think the song is about politics at all. Considering the rest of the album, and that this song comes right after Haiku, I would reckon this song is about overly romanticizing something. Notice how the singer never actually describes the person who they're talking too, his words are devoid of actual meaning. He's so caught up in love that he never considers the other persons emotions at all. This ties into the video by showing Sotrie give everything he has to the people, only for them to, in the end, betray him. Ultimately I think this song is about how you can't force people to love you (a similar theme is present in Hidden in Sand) and that no sappy love song can change that.
I'd like to add on that the backgrounds for some part are blue skies and green grass, an ideal thing for some which plays into the romanticizing theme.
This is one of the best videos I have ever seen
