Hey man, you definitely do change lives with your videos. I went into audit and HATE IT. I also realized it’s hard to make you own firm with an audit background. I plan on switching to tax and eventually making a business around tax and book keeping. You made an example to me that it is possible. I keep procrastinating talking to my hr to switch to tax (top 10 firm) but each time you upload you make me ever more tempted.
Ideally I would be a tax and book keeping firm and work solo. Your first year in business video inspired me way back. I need the experience of a few years but I can’t wait to start marketing and bringing in people who want my expertise. Thank you
@@soapshowdown4721I’m in your same shoes, I know I want to start my own firm in tax. But I’ve accepted an audit offer with a big 4 since that’s what I did my internship in. Hoping sticking around for 2 years or so won’t throw me too off track.
I do personal taxes but would really appreciate some content on how to prepare partnership or Corp tax returns. If you provide training for a fee, even better.
I've been on my own for the last 30+ years. Its never easy and the worries never stop. Greate that you are part of the ownership team, but now that my kids are grown, I give you one piece of advice learn the work/life balance. Your kids grow quick and you can never get time back. Good Luck. Joey
Great video, please follow up with why you went out on your own which saved you from leaving the profession. Equally important, do you think small business accounting predominantly (bookkeeping and tax) will go away or change with technology, such as software automation and IRS Direct File System, that starts in 2024? Maybe not go away completely but rather change in one way or another? And should someone still pursue an accounting degree? Do you think compliance and tax will still be in demand for the next 20 years?
Currently i'm doing a lot of provisions, corps and partnerships so would try to stay in that space, but seems like it would be quicker to branch into mostly 1065's and individuals as i'm more comfortable with them. I enjoy the corp work, but would be nervous to do that myself without anyone above me reviewing@@taxtelegraf
Can’t wait to hear the long story of why you opened your own firm or almost got out of the profession
Kudos to you. Im also thinking about starting but still scared to pull the trigger 😅

Great video, just subscribed
Woo!! Thank you!
I know it's subjective but how long do you think you need to work in small PA to be competent enough to go on your own? 3 years minimum?
I'd say 3-5 years, so you can try to get most of your technical skills down.
Great video
Logan, what do you reckon is the minimum experience amount you'd recommend having before striking out on our own?
Depends on what type of firm you want to run.
