Gen z is both more entrepreneurial and less inclined to work long hours than Millenials. Firm ownership seems like the thing the AICPA should be pushing if it wants to attract more people my age to the profession.
Good points about ClickUp. I find Asana or Monday are more structured and templating task lists by project type really lets us hit the ground running as new projects come in. Regarding Microsoft AI, I recommend setting up overnight procedures to warehouse back-ups of project management software data in MS Azure. This would allow access to the data without being dependent on MS applications/UI for input. It also protects sensitive client data from being used to train the OpenAI model.
🤔 After watching this, I finally get why I've been having a ClickUp vs. Karbon existential crisis! It's like choosing between a Swiss Army knife and a laser-guided missile for my accounting battles. Thanks for the clarity, now I just need an AI to make decisions for me! 😂 #AccountingToolDilemma
I guess its more on how capable you are yourself and how much experience/ how much u can handle yourself to be confident infront of your customers. Im only two years in a accounting role but i would love to be certified and start a firm
Hey Jason. I have a "soft skills" question for a future Q&A. I've been in internal corporate leadership roles in industry for a long time, so my communication skills over the years has focused more on prepared, focused presentations (by me) and less "off the cuff." I'd like to hone my communication skills, especially for working externally with clients of my new firm. I thought you mentioned in a prior video that you've taken improv classes. If so, would you mind sharing your experience? How did it strengthen your communication skills? And did it help with speaking extemporaneously? I've considered doing improv over the last couple of years so would love to hear your perspective. If you haven't done improv, then just tell me I need to stop multitasking while listening to your videos. 🤣😂 I appreciate your daily insights. As I'm starting up my firm I find them extremely valuable. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Jason! We are in the process of deciding between Karbon and Financial Cents. Not sure if you have any thoughts on FC but it’s like half the price of Karbon and does the same sort of stuff
Jason, been following for a good while, big fan and love the content. Planning to start a CAS firm at the beginning of 2025 and have been keeping up with tech stack software and projecting costs/clients needed to support my family. I’ve been having trouble finding good content/research on budget/reporting/FP&A software (LiveFlow, DataTails, Causal, etc.) Is there a S tier of these software?
Err it's hard because they all work differently and folks approach FP&A with different methodologies. Which I get is a non-answer but v hard to generalize

Best thing I ever did was try to find some current users who would let me pick their brain!
@@JasonOnFirmsPodcast we actually just did that with a Karbon user. Now will find a FC user and maybe even a Taxdome/ClickUp user
