- The latest episode to be pulled from Adam's Archives, is a tribute to Tom Kennedy. The Nighttime Price is Right from 1985. Recorded from Game Show Network in 1998 at the tail end of the "Dark Period."
What a wonderful way to do a tribute to the late great Game Show Host Tom Kennedy he would be so thrilled to see that in his honor.
Tom was amazing. May he Rest In Peace!
R.I.P Tom Kennedy 2020
This had to be from his first set of tapings, between the open not having the prize reveals as part of it, Tom's more emotional if you wanna call it that entrance, and his opening remarks that follow it. Nice upload and tribute to a classy man. May he RIP.
Thank you! Tom was a legend. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode!
Good observation! Another way you can tell this was one of the earlier shows is that they still had those brown curtains embodied with the "CBS Eye." as well as the mention in the closing credits that this was taped at Television City - in addition to the syndication company "The Television Program Source." In later episodes of the Tom Kennedy version, they changed the curtains to various colors and the closing notes only mentioned the company that distributed the program. Same thing with the ticket plugs. The biggest problem with this edition of the show was that in many markets (such as New York City), it was on very late. For example, WNBC-TV channel 4 telecast it at 2am. This was because Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy took up the "access slots."
@@davidbagner3136 And I will also say this was around the time where the opening titles began to do the flip animation - which reminds me Pluto by this summer should air the Barker episodes that were produced around this timeframe and all the staff except for Barker worked on this syndicated version here so they really added a lot of pressure to work on both versions like they did when the daytime and original syndicated nighttime version taped concurrently.
@@graigmellon7874 I'd imagine the pressure was a bit different in this period than in the previous one actually, since the original if you recall was only once a week as opposed to daily, not to mention the fact that for the first 3 years it was on the daytime show was a half hour as well. So the workload was considerably less than it'd have been here.
I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE OF THESE EARLY EPISODES GREAT UPLOAD
I had no idea Kennedy PIR aired at the tail end of the dark period! The funny thing is I was heading back home to Orlando from Alabama after we helped family clean up after the flood of 1998 in Elba! My grandmother had GSN on her prime star but her basement was flooded.
The crowd is awfully loud. LOL!!! It is funny they hardly show the audience anymore. They used to do camera shots of contestants not making it on stage. Now, they have to air more commercials. I’ve been pretty much watching TPIR from the beginning. I’m 56 now and still watch it.
With a 22-minute show, that's today's standards. Older 24-minute game show repeats had to cut out two minutes to make way for more commercials.
Reaired on March 15, 1998.
I'm impressed that you know this! Thank you! Do you happen to know the episode number or original airdate?
@@hostsathome7390 The Episode Number is Before #0052-N taped on April 22, 1985.
Including the one bid prizes, The contestants won a grand total of $27,319.
That guy Peter looks like he is dressed for Halloween!
19:06 One of my favorite emergency breakfast foods other than Pop Tarts and Toaster Strudel is still around today!
Carnation instant breakfast too
Rod is doing the fee plugs while Johnny O is announcing. They should have done the same with WOF when Charlie O died in 2010. Instead of running over Charlie O's voice. They should have let Pat and Vanna do the Wheel watchers stuff. Dubbing over Charlie O's voice is an insult to the man's hard work.
Jim Thornton has been the permanent announcer since Charlie O's passing
Probably around summer 2022, Pluto will be airing Barker episodes that were produced around the same time as this episode was, and you'll notice that around this time, "American Patrol" was added as the background cue in Pick A Pair, to give the impression that you're at a carnival. Also interesting that 13 is a number choice in Money Game since daytime's Season 13 was still in production at the time.
Yes Pluto tv has the barker era they should have a channel for the night time price is right 👍😀
Man I am crushing on Karen!
My guess for the last 2 Numbers in the Price of that Car would have been 1 of the following 3.
1: 53
2: 30
3: 22
Pray tour mom does not find those! If she does tell her the truth!
