Sonic Temple was my first exposure to The Cult. Here in 2024 at 62 I still crank this album especially when I am feeling feisty. Music today is nothing like this. Rock on 💪

This could be released this week and be an instant hit.. Damn they were SO far ahead of their time. Put headphones on and crank this one.. The guitar is a wall of sounds.. and intertwined with Ian’s voice it’s like they each needed one another to become a complete thing… if that makes sense..
Funny how music can evoke memories from long past - I lived in Austin but had just broken up with the love of my life (at that point, only 24). I came home from an all-nighter and found her side of the closet empty. I was getting evicted from the house we shared, about to lose my job, and it was my birthday. I was laying on my couch that afternoon in April when my friend came over with a bag of 80's pick-me-up. He put on this album, made me get dressed, and we rocked this album all day and into the next going from club to club on Sixth St. Life moved on, and I'm a happily married professional today, but in last 35 years I haven't given this day much thought - blocked it I suppose. Hearing this song again in 2024 brings that time, that day, back in vivid color. When your young life can be terrible, beautiful, and thrilling all in the span of a few moments.
Still remember the 1st time I heard this song - I'd just bought Sonic Temple on cassette and slipped it into my walkman as I was waiting for the bus home. Blown Away....
Met them at the old French Quarter Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee during this tour. Nicest and most kindest people ever. Sadly the French Quarter Hotel is gone, and I’ve long moved to Texas since then. But damn straight, what a fantastic time that was. Great memories of that evening and thanks for the video! 🎉
It's always been difficult to place The Cult, sometimes their rich woven musical tapestry reminds of The Cure, at times, their rhythm and anthem like lyrics of a classic hard rock legend. . . . But if there is one thing that no one can deny is the richness and power of their music--legends.
Yeah, they’re amazing when sonic Temple came out I was like thinking are you sure these guys aren’t from Outer space somewhere the music is just way over the top amazing!!!

I saw Ian Astbury on vocals for The Doors 21st Century in '03. I always felt like The Cult and The Doors kindred spirits and my two favorite bands of all time.
DITTO! Almost makes me wonder why they never made an actual music video for this song for MTV. Could've filmed it using Jim Morrison-like imagery in it with the the whole band ripping it down a desert highway in the hot rod flame-painted '57 Chevy that's featured on both the Sonic Temple poster & inner sleeve of the album cover. You actually see the car in this video too! 🤘😷
Such a great band........I saw Ian Ashbury in The Doors 2000 back in the day........He is one of the best frontman , lead singers......Billy Duffy is an amazing guitarist......They still are amazing....
One evening back in 1992 I bought my first CD player (Denon) in addition to my new sound system. Stopped off at the 'record store' prior to heading home to set it up. I bought Sonic Temple by The Cult. What a great first purchase. Kick ass then. Kick ass now.
One day driving with my dad who grew up in the 50s I threw in the cassette of Sonic Temple. - this song came on and my Dad was caught up in it !! After the intro he said “ what is this ?? I really like it !! “ I was blown away lol!!! Simply a phenomenal song and really gets going with Duffy’s thick chords and licks and really showcases Astbury’s insane vocals . SUN KING BABY !!!
I feel that The Cult were anti-posers. The Cult are a tight punchy Rock Band. They have hair, though I wouldn't pigeon hole them as a Hair Band. People that have a limited knowledge of music feel compelled to categorise everything. For example, anything that was a ' little different or Left of Centre' in the late 70's/ early 80's was classified as NEW WAVE music. Sometimes and quite often, a Band is just a Band. In 1972 the VERTIGO RECORD LABEL had the good business sense to sign STATUS QUO to their stable along with BLACK SABBATH, therefore people tried to label QUO as HEAVY METAL. STATUS QUO were and still are just a bloody great Rock Band. The Band's name is 55 years old now ( 1967 ) and they've lost a few members due to death or music differences. Matt Sorum has had a cool Drumming career with THE CULT & GUNS n ROSES. When THE CULT toured AUSTRALIA back in 2013, they played the full ELECTRIC album followed by other Classic Cult songs. Toward the end of the gig, there was a palpable vibe running thru the crowd, this was because they hadn't played SUN KING yet. They brought the house down and the crowd exploded when they closed the gig with SUN KING (Baby ) THE CULT are bloody awesome
I've seen them twice once in 1987 with Billy idol at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre. The second time was in 2018 at the Greek theater in Los Angeles, California. They are a trip and there's no concert. Quite like it. You can hauler out but you won't be heard because they're such a roar.

This was their most commercial album, IMO. I loved it, still do. Helped tide me over during the musically barren period just before grunge hit.. this rocks hard
Holy fuck! What a rock-and-roll throwdown! That album started in overdrive and never let up. Up to this point, it was rare to see a band put out three consecutive masterpieces such as LOVE, ELECTRIC & SONIC TEMPLE. And they still continue to hold the bar out of reach for most.
This song and it's terrific level of nostalgia make me feel compelled to dedicating the rest of my life, if need be, to perfecting a time machine, just so I could go back for a LONG revisit to that last few months of the 80's and the early 90's to experience this glorious album every day, and all the events and circumstances that came with it. It became the most epic soundtrack to a time in my life that was truly priceless and I know I would do it 100% all over again, even though some of it was downright painful and stupid and some of it even brought terrible consequences.
