The narrative was awesome! Is there a way we are able to get the missions/scenarios ourselves?
That was devastating.
I am no general and awful at the game, but that was extremely devastating to the guard. Pretty much, they were set up for a failure, because they are against the army which is, in the narative rules, outscores them at every step. I see no way for Adrian out of the failure here. To score more, he needs to hold more objectives consistently and he does not have an army for that.
Also no matter the deployment he chooses tyranids go first, which means they are jamming him on every front and simply through sheer act of Engage on All Fronts score easy points, while guard sits in the dumps.
No slight to James(?) here, but his narrative scoring was perfect, he had both a way to score points actively (take objectives from Adrian) and passively (stay in three to four quarters of the board). While guard only had one method of scoring, and it was "hold more". Which, with tyranid incentive to clear them off objectives, was a trap.
Adrian did what he could to clear the horde and go out onto the board, but the problem is, even with passive scoring, tyranids would have 12 to 15 points through Engage, any primary scoring is just cherry on top at this point.
Well played to both players, but I can not fail to feel that guard got set up hard here. Which is fine, it is narrative after all.
Definitely a difficult scenario for the guard! I think if I pushed a flank I could have scored more to contribute to the next round but the odds were definitely stacked. And totally get that its no shade to James :) All good
