A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ UA-cam. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of UA-cam I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on UA-cam won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This UA-cam channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different
This is a reaction video used to educated and give my feedback on the song and artist

This whole album kicks Ass!
I had it on 8 track :)
My favourite album of all time is Crime of the century
- Bloody well right has the best intro ever
Just a great band....great start. Next up, Goodbye Stranger, then, School, Take the Long Way Home, Crime of the Century, Bloody Well Right....then keep going✌️
I’d like to second Goodbye Stranger.
I'll third that Goodbye Stranger..............Rome will have even more questions!
I swear every time I see someone suggest a song, I sing it on my head! 🎵 Goodbye Stranger its been nice ...
@@StaciaAmnaber ....hope you find your paradise
@@doc6448 tried to see your point of view ...
Also, I believe “Breakfast in America” would be perfect for the next one 😁
Or Crime of the century ;)
Breakfast in America is a choooon!!!
Please, please, please.
Apt lyrics for today....
“Watch what you say, they’ll be calling you a radical, a liberal, a fanatic, a criminal” 👍🏻😎
Except instead of a liberal, they'll be calling you a conservative.
@@mjt1517 It is because of the shift of the counter culture, which is viewed as different then cultural norms, even if they are logical.
Story of today and of all time
@@mjt1517 ... Except... The ideals of the song are very much in line with "liberal", left-wing ideology, and not the "pull yourself up by your non-existent bootstraps" bullshit mentality that conservatives espouse? Don't fall for Trump's faux populism, mate. He's not on your side, never has been, and never will be.
@@mjt1517 Nope - not a right-wing bigot amongst this band
Gotta be "Goodbye Stranger".............that is my favorite Supertramp song.
Definitely one of their best 👌
That one, and Logical Song.
One of my Favorite Albums ❤ 'Breakfast in America' (Graphics on the cover shows the Twin Towers) *'Hollywood'* and '*Lord is it Mine'* lyrics apply to All the crazy shit we're dealing with now.
@@maryhuhnke8496 l always preferred Crime of the Century and Crisis What Crisis to Breakfast, but love Oh Darling and Just Another Nervous Wreck.
Dreamer
Supertramp has a great catalog of music you will be listening to for the next few decades. Their music has stood the test of time.
Go deep with Supertramp 👍
The whole Breakfast in America album is 🔥
Back in the stone age we called it a telephone. It didn't have ringtones it just rang. You know. Like a bell.
Lol
And the phone was attached to a cord.
Black rotary dial!
Oh my God. I hear young people wonder about the sounds of my youth and I start to feel like a caveman.
I used to have one of those next to my bed when i still was living with my parents. I kid you not it scared the crap of me when waking up to it!!
Love me some Supertramp, been listening since my childhood, wearing my dad's headphones almost as big as my head as I played his vinyls. So good.
Looks like your Dad had good taste in music!
@@keithjones6023 He really did, Supertramp, The Beatles, John Denver, KC and the Sunshine Band, ABBA, the Doobie Brothers... and so many more, very eclectic tastes that exposed me to so many genres.
"The song makes use of keyboards, castanets, and an instrumental section. Among the contemporary sound effects in this song are the 'tackled' sound from a Matell electronic football game - popular at the time this song was released."
Source: Wikipedia - The Logical song
I had that game! Wasted many an hour on it!
have you noticed the facebook notification noises showing up in songs?
I actually found one at a yard sale a number of years back and it still works. I remember when we had to take them apart and disconnect the speaker 🔊 so the teachers couldn't here us playing and taking them. Lol
I envied people with that game. Those things will never die; electronics were still made to military specs.
That instrument he was talking about at the beginning, is called a 'vibraslap', a percussion instrument
As a kid when you really start to think about life, this song hit me hard. Awareness, feelings, and logic are a blessing and a curse.
They are legend,,must here ,,,Crime of the century
School....Bloody Well Right, Hide in Your Shell.......the entire Crime of the Century album!!!
@@CharCanuck14 Absolutely. Crime of the Century is an album to which the Pink Floyd rule applies.....whole album beginning to end, headphones, dooby, nothing else exists until the final bar of the final track.
@@SteveChiverton Almost perfect, but it's gummies for me...lol!
This song is pure genius
They were phenomenal in concert. This was before electronics. When an alarm clock went off someone was ringing an alarm clock. (It was an alarm clock, I was there.)
"Respectable, presentable... a VEGETABLE!" Amazing!🤩
J, great reaction! Their "Goodbye Stranger", "Bloody Well Right" and "Give A Little Bit" are next for you!
True - We've covered Goodbye Stranger and Bloody Well Right if you'd like to check em out!
@@LowDarts They were both Bloody Well Good!! You all were having fun with it as well, which added to the performance.
castanets!! part of the latin percussion family!
Whistles, cowbells, Castanets and many other instruments ....that’s one of the reasons Supertramp is such a fantastic band. “Breakfast in America “ would be great to listen to.
Next recommended Supertramp song:
“Bloody Well Right”
(The piano intro is so sick that you’ll be replaying it in your head the rest of the day!)
Supertramp one of the best bands in the 1970s. x
Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger, has the sauce you seek
"School", for me is their Masterpiece.
Bloody well right is a banger. You can’t go wrong with Supertramp🎶🎶💕
"Give a Little Bit" is a great lift me up song give it a chance 😁
This is my favorite Supertramp song James. Thank you for reacting to it. Also you may like "Long Way Home" and "Goodbye Stranger"👍🏾👵🏿🤗♥️
That saxophone though...definite 5. "School", "Bloody Well Right" and "Long Way Home" are a few of my SuperTramp favorites
First sounds: piano with synth, kastinets, probably some maracas thrown in, too. The last sound was an old phone tone. 😊
Sounds like the old wind up alarm clock
That last one actually sounds like a Mattel Handheld Electronic Football Game - I played one of these when I was young!
Actually, the sound effect you're referring to was from Mattel Football (sort of a bleeeep-bleeep) ua-cam.com/video/AkC5zfHjrlE/v-deo.html
That's what I was going to say.
@@TheSteveDallas - I'm sure y'all are right, but it was a ring tone, too (this old lady remembers - lol!)
Supertramp were excellent, and another deep well: "Take the Long Way Home", "Give a Little Bit", "Even in the Quietest Moments", "Lady", and the entire Crime of the Century album are top notch.
Thanks for sharing your grandma with us. May her memory always bring a smile to your face and fill your heart with gladness.
Breakfast in America is my favorite Supertramp song. And Goodbye Stranger is cool too.
This was one of my favorites group as a teenager. I would definitely go with "Goodbye Stranger" next.
Long way home next, great song, after that try Goodbye Stranger, you'll going to enjoy Supertramp.
💯
Thanks for your great review James. This song was written and performed by Roger Hodgson, who was half of Supertramp's great writing team, If one is old enough. we can remember listening to the album in the Summer of 1979.These days seeing Roger Hodgson in concert is like taking a trip down memory lane. Roger plays all the hits and more and sounds exactly like he did in 1979. If he is ever performing in a city near you, go see him for a magical evening.
This song was a HUGE radio hit back in the day 1979. I think this album "Breakfast in America" is an all time classic and a "must have" album in everyone's music library. It really catapulted Supertramp into another stratosphere.
"Alice's Restaurant Massacree" or just "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie. It's 18.30 minutes long. It was used by serial killer Rodney James Alcala as part of his closing statement in 2010.
It's also considered a Thanksgiving song, plus there's a movie about it.
"School" Crime of the Century album. I've seen this band live so many times! Such great fun!! 😊
Goodbye Stranger is definitely your next tune from them 😎
This album needs to be listened to start to finish; it's so proggy, it's a JOURNEY!
Supertramp always sounds like a carnival! Love them
Take the long way home is my favorite Super Tramp song.
hahaha, absolutely no cellphones in 1979, none, hahaha.
The production and sound engineering of this song and album is so incredibly tight. Masterful! A time when artists put the real work into their craft.
Their band was huge, every instrument you could think of,check out.
Oldie but goodie and super relevant to anyone in touch with their soul.
Crime of the Century LP was one of the best production of the rock era.The whole album is a masterpiece. Saw them 4x live and their live show is as good as the record. Even in the Quietest Moments and Breakfast in America LPs are awesome too
This is a FANTASTIC rabbit hole! Bloody Well Right, Give A little Bit, Hide In Your Shell, Goodbye Stranger, School, Take The Long Way Home, Dreamer! LET'S GO!!
One of my favorite songs of all time... Simply amazing!
There were no cell phones when this song was released, so nobody knew what a cell phone ringer sounded like!
Great album, it came out when I was 14, in 1979! Goodbye Stranger is my favorite!
I always enjoy your reactions!
The whole Breakfast in america album was great
Yes this entire album is good! Goodbye Stranger is probably my fav song!
This song was the most popular number by Supertramp. I come from a non-English-speaking country & yet this song managed to get its way to our radio at the time (1979). And if you're wandering how come I write English fairly well, Well! It's because I've been a teacher of English (retired) for 35 years.
When you react to a song I know and it has a saxophone, I already get ready to start laughing/smiling in anticipation of your reaction lol. Also....CAN YOU PLEASE REACT TO ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA????
Oh hell yeah ELO.
Telephone Line
Man, I love this song.
Love Supertramp, Thanks! I would love to see your reaction to Foreigner, "Juke Box Hero".
My sister is 7 years older than I am and was in college when Breakfast In America came out. We both asked for it for Christmas and I knew my musical tastes were maturing. We both asked for The Long Run by The Eagles too.
A favorite song - Supertramp has a mix of compelling lyrics and melodies.
A truly underrated group. This album was the most commercial and best seller. Their best album is Crime Of The Century. It's a true masterpiece of writing, lyrically, melodies, and a detailed production that is awesome. That album needs to be reviewed. Nice review by the way👍😁😎
Four masterpiece albums
Crime of the Century
Crisis? What Crisis?
Even in the Quietest Moments
Breakfast in America
Two very good albums
Famous Last Words
Brother Where You Bound
All full of greatness
The instrument you're asking about: castenets ( sort of percussion)
Synths could do many noises then, or was a sound effect swirled in
Don't rule out the "Indelibly Stamped" album. It was before the band really found their style (and with a few different members), but I'd rank it up there with Famous Last Words.
@@jamesdignanmusic2765 What about free as a bird?
@@grassdanishes4845 I totally loved Free as a Bird and I feel that true Supertramp fans can appreciate this album and Some Things Never Change. The musicianship, their adaptation to new sounds yet familiar styles, Davies on vocals and John Helliwell on the horns are legendary. I can appreciate that they managed to keep the band together after all of these years.
Very well, and leave out the first one with the same name as the band? Supertramp, listen to it
The first two albums aren't up to the quality of the albums I listed, there are some good songs...the albums Some Things Never Change and Slow Motion are mediocre songs well produced and played, not memorable...Free As A Bird album....if you like overproduced technopop, be my guest
James, I love your vibe, your honesty, and your willingness to try great, great music for the first time. If i had a list of the songs you've reacted to I'd fill in the blanks.
Classic album of my youth, dude!! NO cell phone then! Just rotatories !
I predict that if you like the sax and this type of music, this will be one of your new favorite bands !
And dude, no cell phones in 1979 !
Great band with so many hits in the late 70's, and early 80's.
The clown noise sounds like the sound effect from a late 70's early 80's hand held electronic football game.
Tecmo Super Bowl at 4:58. It was all the rage at that time.
Actually its was Mattel handheld Football way before Tecmo Super Bowl. ua-cam.com/video/03joLLz585E/v-deo.html
@@mdegginger4761 This is 100% correct. I loved that game when I was a kid and it was my older brother who pointed that out to me one day that the noise in the song was from the Mattel Handheld Football game.
Yes, it is the Mattel Handheld Football game. I had one at the time. The sound you hear is the sound it made when your team made a touchdown.
@@jimcvca it wasn’t for the touchdown. If I remember right it was when you had a turn over. Like when you don’t make a first down.
James, I first want to say how much I appreciate how positive, helpful and caring you are. I always get inspired when I drop in to check out one of your reactions. Supertramp was an amazing band and you are truly only scratching the surface. Their masterpiece album is Crime of the Century with every song a classic. Start with School, Bloody Well Right and Hide In Your Shell, and you will never stop!
Supertramp (one word) never made a bad song. They are a fabulous group and much fun and good memories.
"Cannonball" that jazzy funky groove is infectious. You can't listen just once.
This Song is an American Classic... Super Tramp was ahead of their time...The Best of Super Tramp Album is really great... they have an outstanding catalog of music....
That sound is an ELECTRIC PIANO.
I was 8 when this song came out. I have older sisters and an older brother, so that's how I heard it on the radio. The song Renegade by Styx came out at the same time and I musically loved that song, it spoke to me somehow. So, then I started paying more attention to songs I was hearing and the words to this song just hit me. I know I was young, too young to be aware, but for some reason I felt this song. Hindsight, tells me it's because I never really fit into my own family. They were always trying to year me down. Still try, to be honest. So, I'm happy you were able to experience this song.
Awesome place to start out! I highly recommend, no matter what you pick for other reactions from them, please do not skip Bloody Well Right.
I was lucky to see them on their 1983 farewell tour, with After The Fire and Chris DeBurgh as two opening acts. Very memorable!
Cellphone .....this song was made way before they were made. But this song is a wonderful song. Thanks for your reaction.
I always thought of them as castanets. You should react to "Goodbye Stranger" next.
Those are castanets at the start, I believe. This is such a classic. Speaking of classics, please do yourself a favor and check out the audio version of Funeral for a Friend/Love Lives Bleeding by Elton John
Goodbye Stranger and Raining Again
The instrument is a Wurlitzer Electric Piano, model 200a
I just went through your whole back catalogue of reactions.
WTF man, NO E.L.O.
Telephone Line.
Mr Blue Sky.
Livin' Thing.
And MANY more.
"THE LONG WAY HOME"
My first MC Supertramp....since 1979
Goodbye stranger, long way home, crime of the century, school, bloody well right, breakfast in America and many others.
They have an amazing catalog
They do indeed!
Supertramp.... love them!!!
Are you speaking of the castanet? (the woody clicky sound) The castanets come in a hand and orchestra version. The hand version consists of two slightly hollowed pieces of wood that each look like the shell gas logo. They are connected at the flat end by a loop of string and are famously used by a dancer to accompany their footwork (usually with a set in each hand).
Great song with the unmistakable voice of Roger Hodgson.
The sound is a Wurlitzer electric piano, if that's what you are referring to.
"Bloody Well Right" next for sure. The best Supertramp song imo
This song was popular in 1979, and I loved it as a nine-year-old kid, but a lot of it went right over my head back then. I was in high school when it became more than just a good song, and now, today, it's more relevant than ever. Great job on your reaction.
a real alarm clock!!! is that weird sound you couldn't figure out....you are a riot! I love listening to you
The electric piano is what you hear. It's Roger Hodgson's signature instrument, but he plays the guitar just as well. You need to see this band Live. Any thing from the Live in Paris 1979 concert is the best on UA-cam. The bell sound was like a old alarm clock. (There were no cell phones in 1979) the clown whistle was a whistle.
Even in the Quietest Moments. Fool's Overture, School...to name but a few of THE classics.
One of my favorite bands. Lots of great songs already listed just play all of them and I'll be happy. Enjoy
This song spoke to me like very few when I was a teenager and it still resonates like yesterday. Supertramp, "Breakfast in America" an all-time great album must be heard to be believed.
Amazing singers, songwriters and musicians in one group, often overlooked but so many classic songs.
The instrument playing at the opening of the "Logical Song" is an electric piano.
He means the rhytmic but almost linear snapping percussion sound.
And suddenly I FEEL VERY OLD.. 🤣🤣🤣
Castinets are making the "clicking" sounds and I think the clown sound is a kazoo. Love Supertramp!
I used to listen to Supertramp on my Dad’s records as a Kid.
You know it's a great song when you are straining to hear the fadeout.
That wooden clacking sound is made by castanets a small wooden percussion instrument you hold in your hands and shake
"Breakfast In America" was one of the greatest albums ever by this great British Rock Band [SuperTramp]. This song with other great songs that made it into the top 40 charts include...Breakfast In America, Goodbye Stranger, Take The Long Way Home, and Give A Little Bit are just a few big hits from this album. You will be pleasantly surprised how awesome every song is in this great album.
