Nice job mate! Great to see you're already getting your money's worth from the second engine. Haven't tried their Vanilla slice, but their pies are awesome!
Their pies are good. They were all out of vanila slices but I've had them before. They are good but had better. Caramel slice and choc mint slice were really good. Back to bikes, I've been keen to pull the clutch out for ages, apart from springs it all looked pretty good. Maybe wrong oil has been used at some point. Feels much better now with the older one in there.
i watched the video because i ve got a big sludge on the oil sight glass and i cant see the oil level easy and i am thinking seriously of doing the surgery. It happened right after i had the first engine flush with liqui moly flush after 85000 klm and i never had this problem before with simple oil changes. Its a great video and the only one that i found to show how to remove the cover. If you know any easier method how to clean the oil sight glass without removing the cover please tell me mate, thank you.
Thanks for the feedback, I try and include all the steps on these jobs. Unfortunately, the only way I can see to clean the sight glass is to remove the cover. Good luck!
Thanks. I didn't mind the original handlebars but I bent them in a fall. New ones are alloy ProTaper, ATV Raper bend. About the same height as the standard ones but straighter.
It's an oil temp guage. I have an aftermarket dash on my bike that doesn't have a temp gauge so I fitted the oil temp guage. Here's a video I did on it ua-cam.com/video/b0cJVXNbz5o/v-deo.html
No. I've actually just replaced this clutch with new plates and springs, and it's now very stiff. I'm wondering if a hydraulic actuator off a later model would fit.
Is a symptom of worn clutch bogging under acceleration? I heard someone say that. I have a bogging under acceleration on my 09 650 v Strom but only when bike temp gets up there otherwise I thought it could be fuel related.
A worn clutch is more likely to slip under acceleration, revs would go up and speed would go down. Bogging under acceleration is more likely fuel related. I had a similar issue and replaced the fuel strainer which fixed it. It could also be the fuel pump or fuel regulator. I did a video on the strainer here ua-cam.com/video/ZhV8nEziK68/v-deo.html
On my 2009 650. On the center stand my back wheel spins almost instantly upon letting clutch lever out. But on ground i have over half lever before rpm even pull down. Im assuming that would be a clutch issue?
It takes very little for the wheel to spin when there's no load. You may need to adjust the clutch actuator and then the lever free play so the clutch starts engaging a little earlier.
I've just replaced this old clutch with a Newfren clutch plate kit and a set of EBC springs. Happy with the result so far.
Thanks for the video , change clutch last night , ❤
Awesome! Glad it helped. Ride safe.
Great video Ian. I’m glad you know what ya doing Ride safe
Not really. But I can pretend.
Great work Ian, love working on bikes.
Thanks mate. Always interesting seeing how they work and come apart.

Good stuff Ian, saved a few bucks there mate.
Thanks, good result for the price of a gasket.
Great vide mate. Enjoyable 🇳🇴☕
Cheers mate!
I know you like maintenance videos, glad you enjoyed it.
@@OzADVRider somthing calming about them. 😊
Great job.
Thanks

Ευχαριστω για το βιντεο
Hope you found it helpful
Σιγουρα θα με βοηθησει, γιατι και εγω συντηρω ο ιδιος την μοτοσυκλετα μου. Σε ευχαριστω
Hi mate glad it worked out. What kind of oil filler cap is that?
It's an engine oil temp gauge. ua-cam.com/video/b0cJVXNbz5o/v-deo.html
It seems you’ve done this before. You have a lot of confidence. Are you a mechanic?
I'm a fitter and turner. I've replaced a few motorbike clutches. This was the 1st time on the V-Strom. I've put a new one in since this video.
Thanks for your video, always handy with a spare motor,is your handlebar alloy ? I still using the old steel one.
Thanks.

Could you tell me more about your oil fill plug with the gauge on it?

Is it any softer now?? I need to find aw way to losen up the clutch feel is so stiff any ideas?
No. I've actually just replaced this clutch with new plates and springs, and it's now very stiff.
I'm wondering if a hydraulic actuator off a later model would fit.
Looks like the DL1000 had the hydraulic clutch.
If I can get one at a decent price I'll get it and see if it fits.
@@OzADVRider no its the same
Is that oil cooler stock on your model? My 2015 model doesn't have one.
Yes, it's stock. Only 1st Gen models had oil coolers for some reason.
How do you smell "clutch burning" on a wet - oil filled clutch basket?
Not sure, but I could smell something burning and I can't now. Clutch feels heaps better too.

How many miles have you put in your bike before you changed the clutch kit?
This engine had around 60,000 miles on it
Super interesting video , thank you

@@OzADVRider how? Adjusting cable play did nothing
This is how you adjust the actuator. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what else to try. ua-cam.com/users/shortsmOuSA4PPiSs?feature=share
