Chick Corea passed in February of this year. Guy is an absolute legend.

I saw him perform this live a couple of months ago at a popular music venue in Manila called Pardon My French. He was celebrating his wife’s birthday with his family and the band invited him onstage.

Out of all those who reacted to Gary V's Spain rendition, this is the one I love the most. She's a fan of Al Jarreau, Chick Corea, and even knows Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto Aranjuez, which is very rare, at least among those who I've watched before who were not aware of where Chick based Spain from.

@@jvoxfox During his peak (80's-90s) he was our nearest Michael Jackson equivalent. Can you believe he did that Spain performance in his 50's and being a diabetic? He also has a number of times professed that Al Jarreau was a big musical influence. =).

Gary can never bottle in his energy! I will never forget when I was 12 and I saw him perform live. Guy never stops moving! The guy is an incredible dancer too! And the guy is 56 years old and looks and moves great!

That's why he called "MR.PURE ENERGY" . The Michael Jackson here in the Philippines , he can still dance up to now, very energetic and still look young 😊
I’ve seen so many vocal coach reactions on this and yours is probably my fave. Not only you know the song but you understood exactly what he was doing, the technical aspect of jazz that he was bringing into the song and recognising his respect towards Chick Corea, Al Jarreau’s versions, (and even Bobby McFerrin). The most difficult part of this performance is the Insanely Smooth transition from the Scatting Solo into the verse which means he didn't miss a beat and note for that matter..
He plays piano and a lot of other instruments but his expertise is the BONGGO and percussive instruments. He's a LEGENDARY SINGER and DANCER in the Philippines for over 30 years now and has PUERTO RICAN blood in his veins which explains the Latin flair.

He was i think 52 or 53 yo when he did this, you should have seen him in his prime. He plays piano and drums and dances like crazy - so his rhythmic skills is insane. He’s also a great composer his musicality is amazing. And as for his energy? Well hd’s called “Mr Pure Energy” for a reason. Thanks for a GREAT reaction! There's just no denying how you truly feel about a really good performance. Your demeanor changes undeniably. Your face brightens up, being unable to hide the enthusiasm and excitement. He is a multi-talented artist. Can play instruments, a great dancer and singer. He is all in one! Can sing and dance at the same time. You should watch some of his performances. His Philippine title is ‘Mr. Pure Energy’. Very nice guy.
I have never seen him in person perform live, just bits and pieces here and there but I know he’s really good. This performance simply pure energy, this is what happens when someone as good as he is performs this kind of song and give his 110%, greatness at his best.

Yes, it's the Al Jarreau version. I've enjoyed watching him sing this live in one of his concerts when I was younger. I'm 63 now, how come he didn't age?
Gary is an avid mountain biker at his age, this keeps him energetic and looking young (he has a UA-cam channel).
I love jazz and I've replayed this reaction more than I want to admit. The best reaction for this performance in my opinion with Beth Roars as very close second, The Voice Love Co as third, and Mike Goodrich fourth.

I am 36 years old. When I was 6 years old, I was already singing and dancing to Gary V's Shout For Joy. He is called Mr. Pure Energy for a reason. When he was younger, you could see Michael Jackson's influence in his music, especially in his concerts. I bet he's an MJ fan as he is also really good at dancing while singing. :)

he has added about 2 minutes from when he first started singing this song about 35 years ago. he was in a high school chorale. his wife is from a very musical family, and is herself a very good vocalist.

I have watched many reaction videos of Gary V's cover of "Spain" and you are the first to give a very accurate description/background of the song and who Gary is emulating. All other reactors I've watched just gave the usual "oohs, and aaahs" but you actually gave your your viewers a very informative jazz history lesson.
