Ok, let's dispel this once and for all. She was not sick this day. The fact is that this was done on a day off on their tour. She had sang in 2 other videos (All About That Bass and back up on Styles) before this video. Haley was not sure she can give her all for the video and may hurt her voice. Scott convince her to give it a try. This video is the first take. Haley wanted to do another take, but Scott basically said no we are good with this. Image that Haley thought she can do better than this REALLY, REALLY, TRUELY blows my mind.
Seven Nation Army is the song she specifically asked for at the end of the video. It shows off more of her Jazz qualities and has a much longer scat section. Some of what others said is the main problem with her not being a house hold name. But some of it stems from the label she 1st signed after American Idol of 2012. But I personally think it's more about who she is as a person. She rather be herself and do what she feels not what the idiots think will make their bosses money. After her 1st label finished with her and her album didn't do that well because they tried t change her song choices and style somewhat. She moved on and went independent and would not sign another label, until just last year, but with her rules. She's content not being that world wide star. She has done a few Netflix movies and commercial beside putting out 4 or 5 albums. Her parents are also musicians who she occasional sings with in their band. She's making a very good living without conforming. My wish is she made albums with this style and/or rock/blues more often. And even some MJ type pop music. Theirs lots of videos out there of her before she went recording on her own that show off her style.

Haley has a number of songs with PostModern Jukebox (PMJ) that are great.... a number of songs on her own and with others as well (I like the live song with Jeff Goldblum). PMJ has many singers that, both alone and in combinations, present the listener to some really fantastic songs and arrangements. This song by Haley is absolutely one of my favorites and she is soooo good! Please play more of her and of them whenever possible. Between these singers and Angelina Jordan, I have more than enough to listen to and enjoy and hope you will continue to react to them. Thank you for your quality reaction!
There is no more belting left, ever, anywhere, you simply cannot find anymore, anywhere, anytime, she did it all, all of it, that could ever exist, period.
I think her secret sauce is actually feeling the music and the lyrics deep down in her soul, the rest just falls into place, not over-thought, just pure natural talent.
Haley's voice is front and center in this video as her only accompaniment is acoustic guitar for 2 songs: "Can't Find My Way Home" and "Don't Know How to Love You" ua-cam.com/video/omtsHEs2g0w/v-deo.html
Haley's parents have a band that plays a lot of classic rock. She was her high school jazz band's first vocalist. They played at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2009. Haley performing with them in 2008: ua-cam.com/video/GM9fNbzvr58/v-deo.html A former high school teacher said of Haley in 2011: "...she’s always been a very smart musician, both theoretically and creatively. She’s been exposed to a huge variety of music her whole life, and it shows comfortably in anything she attempts to sing." She studied Jazz History and Jazz Piano at Harper Community College near her hometown in IL before appearing on American Idol. On Idol she was given no backstory. No one knew of her jazz background until she did this duet of "Moanin'" with Casey Abrams (they met on Idol and continue to perform together periodically): ua-cam.com/video/UURTLsneDgE/v-deo.html
That was fun. Thanks Julia. Try Hailey singing Black Hole Sun (also PMJ). From Betty Boop to growly belts, this girl has a very satisfying way of mixing genres.
Not only are you fantastically beautiful and talented, but there is something astonishingly and charmingly warm and inviting about your perfect smile and the way you introduce. Such genuine charm seems really rare, to me. Or maybe I'm just smitten ;D
The amount of vocal fry she has in the chorus especially is crazy impressive the fact that she’s got the control over it the way she does without letting accidental cracks come through is phenomenal
I love it when someone has the expertise to explain to me why I love a band and or singer. In my head and emotiions I am just thinking, "Wow! This is amazing!"
As I understand it, she was sick when this was done; the others really had to talk hard to convince her and she was afraid she'd do a bad job of it. Perhaps that lent just a little bit to that rasp :)
Not sure about the health part but I do know that this was done in one take. she had been on tour in Europe from what I understand and they did have to coax her into doing this. Anyone that has followed her since American Idol knows that is her natural voice, go give some of her idol performances a listen. As many others have said and I agree this young woman has one of the sexiest and most seductive voices hands down.
Yeah I love how that when she sings that often it's a fusion of many the styles she is so great at. Glad she is doing the music she loves. She is that link between the vintage and the modern which is Postmodern Jukebox.
You have to react to Falling in Reverse- I'm not a Vampire (revamped) it is an absolute masterpiece visually and vocally 110% the amount of chills you will get from the video is insane
I don't often enjoy the vocal coach reaction videos to this one because they are analytical. But you allowed yourself to respond first analyze later. So nicely done.
Lol, holy Batman? Jules you are our little weirdo... heh! This must of been longest you've gone before pausing. Shout out to Chase, learn from her. Just kidding, u guys know that tho. Loved your react, as usual. And let's hope you get to celebrate 250k party soon too.
Am glad you got INJOY haley reinhart ! She is fabulousness masterpiece ck out (black whole sun, house of rising sun .(my favorite) white rabbit so so so close to Jefferson Airplane original and more! Love her!!!!!
Never seen anyone having so much difficulty hitting the pause. ( Don't blame you at all, it was sooo seductive). Possibly time for Pause lessons from Chase, he is relentless.
As you would obviously know that when someone tours they wouldn’t hit all the big notes and belts like they would for a recording because of how much work your voice would have to do. She sings it this way live over and over and over. God I love Haley, she’s a master of her instrument. It’s her play thing she has complete control over and can just dance all over with it as she pleases.
Thank you Julia for your review. It was very informative to music lovers like me. Wow, there are a lot of learnings and effort to sing a song well. More respect to music performers and their coaches.😊
You reacted to a Falling in Reverse cover of one of their older songs called “The Drug in Me is Reimagined” 2 months. Ronnie recently released (about a week ago) another reimagined version of one of his older songs: “I’m not a Vampire”. The new one is called, “I’m not a Vampire (Revamped). Don’t laugh at the name. The original song was punk and fun, this next version is a lot more...damaged, hurt, vulnerable. Please react to it (after watching the original to see just how different they are from each other)!
Julia, Haley was under the weather that day, had NOT practiced this performance even once, AND this was all in ONE SINGLE TAKE! 🤯 She's out of this world.
I love a good belt .world class belting . her growl is makes me feel so good the effect of the vocal effects effects my heart strings .pmj is the bees knees .i learned how a vocal coach can explain why I love Haley's style so much . subscription mashed ,thanks
Oh, I also wanted to say that I generally think that "Creep" is something few people can really, legitimately pull off and that even more than that, that it's full of a pain that is mostly reserved for men - I've been thoroughly unimpressed by female covers, interpretations and presentations of this song more often than not... and while I don't think that Haley captures the absolute pain that is originally intended in this song, she gives it a style, depth and feel all her own and totally worthy, I think.
Hailey did Seven Nation Army with Post Modern Jute Box first and was tired from just coming off a tour. She said to Scott that she would try but felt she could only do one take. That was the one take! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
i’m still not over how she recorded this on her day off, while sick, and in a single take. utterly speechless.
You’ll be even more impressed to learn that right before this recording she had recorded “All that Bass” with Morgan James & Ariana Savalas.

I absolutely LOVE this rendition of this song. Her voice is incredible 🖤
Falling in Broadway
There is no more belting left, ever, anywhere, you simply cannot find anymore, anywhere, anytime, she did it all, all of it, that could ever exist, period.
Check out her and Morgan James (another pmj frequenter) sing "Dear Prudence." Mind boggling.
Yes! That is epic. Love their version.
I first saw that gem when it only had 1,000 views, it took forever for people to find it, HALEY'S voice on that is pure perfection.
@@heatherwicker9990 Morgan’s home jam sessions are pretty awesome, ain’t they? 🙂
I think her secret sauce is actually feeling the music and the lyrics deep down in her soul, the rest just falls into place, not over-thought, just pure natural talent.
You HAVE TO react to their version of "Habits" also with Haley. It´s in 1930´s jazz style.
This is a brilliant, once-in-a-lifetime performance. Your analysis is so spot-on specific on technique. Thank you.
Check out the vid where Haley sings with her dad at Chess records.
Haley's voice is front and center in this video as her only accompaniment is acoustic guitar for 2 songs: "Can't Find My Way Home" and "Don't Know How to Love You" ua-cam.com/video/omtsHEs2g0w/v-deo.html
I love love love this performance from Haley. She is over the top.
Thanks for posting the link to Moanin'. One of my favorite Idol performances ever.
My God, I've seen her before but every time it's great. Her Jodel tone, her crispy tone are so great I have no words
Yessss!! I love that you're reacting to this!
Love love love Haley. She is soo smooth and has soo much control over her instrument. Very talented and entertaining.
Oooo baby looking forward to this!
This is a brilliant performance. Pick away, little lady. Spin out your improvement. We all want to hear it.
As I understand it, she was sick when this was done; the others really had to talk hard to convince her and she was afraid she'd do a bad job of it. Perhaps that lent just a little bit to that rasp :)
That is correct on her health. She did it in 1 take just 1 phenomenal!!!!!
She had the flu, did it in one take.
She always has rasp
Yeah I love how that when she sings that often it's a fusion of many the styles she is so great at. Glad she is doing the music she loves. She is that link between the vintage and the modern which is Postmodern Jukebox.
You have to react to Falling in Reverse- I'm not a Vampire (revamped)
it is an absolute masterpiece visually and vocally 110% the amount of chills you will get from the video is insane
I don't often enjoy the vocal coach reaction videos to this one because they are analytical. But you allowed yourself to respond first analyze later. So nicely done.
React please - Falling In Reverse "I'm Not A Vampire Revamped "
DOUBLE DOWN on the two characters concept PLEASE it adds so much to the entertainment value of your videos!
It’s her play thing she has complete control over and can just dance all over with it as she pleases.
you should react to geoff castellucci's covers of: blackbird, the headless horseman and sixteen tons
This is one of my ultimate favorite PostmodernJukebox song covers ever
NEWS ALERT: Falling in Reverse just came out with a new version of "I'm Not a Vampire" (Revamped) that you're going to love.
Up
Haley Reinhart also sings My baby just cares for me with Jeff Goldblum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra. Live. I get chills listening to that one.
Julia, Haley was under the weather that day, had NOT practiced this performance even once, AND this was all in ONE SINGLE TAKE! 🤯
She's out of this world.
Julia is the best honest reactor!
For all that's been said about Morrissette Amon being able to sing in any genre, I can't see her pulling off something like this.
I think this is fair. the range isn't close either. however she nails it in a way radiohead might be surprised about.
Hailey did Seven Nation Army with Post Modern Jute Box first and was tired from just coming off a tour. She said to Scott that she would try but felt she could only do one take. That was the one take! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
