Hey just throwing this in here but how insane a number is that, now just a bit North and a bit over, Ontario, the province in Canada, has a 3rd of the entire worlds lakes in it. NA has so many lakes 😂
My first ever game that I went to was Wimbledon F.C. vs. Tottenham. My dad and his family all support Spurs and so I was taken to this game as a 6 year-old because we had a great uncle (married into the Spurs supporting side of the family) who lived near, and supported, Wimbledon. That great uncle was Wimbledon through and through. Not long after that game, the whole MK DONS thing happened and so my great uncle is one of the people who helped found the modern Wimbledon AFC. He still attends matches, despite being in his late 70s.
You must be joking - I think I was playing Football Manager 2010 (coincidence??) when I heard this story for the first time (I'm a fan outside of England). I could not resist starting a new game playing AFC Wimbledon and taking them from semi-pro, back to the Prem and European competitions over a span of a dozen seasons. It is still one of my favorite saves I ever did in the game. I may revisit that challenge again in the future.
Similar thing for me, I was playing a lower tier to prem league fifa run and picked Wimbledon because of a podcast I heard about the crazy gang, and now hearing this is getting me invested
I think you'll find a lot actually don't care because it has nothing to do with them, and sad people online like to pretend they dislike MK Dons for an easy morale high ground

There is a similar story about to get written in Salzburg. Reb Bull stole Austria Salzburg so the fans founded their club new and started in the lowest division. This season they faced of for the first time ever in the national cup. Austria Salzburg is in the third division right now and I look forward to the clubs future.
I learned about this interesting story just today. And by pure coincidence (or?), Wimbledon played against MK Dons in the afternoon, beating them 3:0 🤯
Nice. A few inaccuracies and mistakes but hey ... you certainly captured the flavour of the circumstance. Thank you. It is I think still the greatest story in football - both as AFCW and also the old WFC story too. Those cannot be stolen. Nor can they be bought. Winkleman will get his cumuppence some day ... I just hope I am alive to see it.
A lot of people forget Charles Koppel in all of this Chairman from 2000-2002 who was the one who sold the club to Winkleman and helped the deal get done. He pulled a John Fisher and did 2 consecutive fire sales of the team’s stars in the Winter window, selling them to promotion rivals, fired Stuart Murdoch for saying that he was in favor of a new stadium in Merton, and basically sandbagged the team to keep them in the 2nd tier while he was there.
Tony Blair tried to move them to Northern Ireland to play at a new national stadium. Wanted them called Belfast United. Everyone told him that was a terrible idea. Although it probably is what led to The Belfast Giants Ice Hockey Team, so it all worked out
I know many UA-camrs have already done videos about Anthony Precourt attempting to move the Columbus Crew but I think it would be an interesting video done in this style. It's a great story overall. Love the video.
Yeah, the issue isn't so much that American sports fans are okay with teams moving, it's that they can't do much about it legally. The city of Seattle STILL hates the NBA for moving the Sonics to Oklahoma City. The NBA realized pretty quickly how stupid it was to abandon the Seattle market, but the city has basically refused to provide a single cent for the NBA if they want to start a new team there, which is a hardline position that almost no city governments take.
You can ask any English fan which club they hate out the two, regardless of which team they support, and they will say Mk. The city is dead and empty anyway
Calling it a city is hyperbole. And I should know, I tried to get through it when the motorway was blocked, which I eventually did. Hardly saw a soul. It is a soulless place.
German here. I really couldnt care less about English football but of course I know some names due to UEFA/Champions League and other events. Yet, at this very moment I decided: I am now a fan of AFC Wimbledon and will cheer for them when English teams are mentioned. Really, this story is worth movies made and books written about it.
Been a Wimbledon fan since 1978. It warms my heart in this cold, dangerous world that we have this video. Plus all these comments about MK C**ts from fans of various clubs, who know that but for the grace of God, it could have been THEIR club. NEVER AGAIN. Thanks everyone x
Great recap of the famously appaulling story, with a happy ending, of course. I'm not a Wimbledon fan and have no justification to be one, but damn near every FOOTBALL fan should hold them in high esteem. I know this is almost unhelpfully off-topic but I also love their ground banners: "The club that came from nowhere", "We are the resurrection, we are the light", "Not in the wider interests of football"... Just a magical comeback, Winkleman doesn't deserve any sympathy even after becomming more genuinely interested in football and appearing to genuinely wanting MK to succeed.
Fantastic video. Thank you for making this. This really is one of the true grit stories of the Lower Leagues, told by someone who has actually researched it well!

Long time Wimbledon fan, this moment was indeed better than winning the fa cup the most emotional moment in 50 years of watching them thanks to everyone one who has contributed to the journey.
The fact that people in the US seem to think franchising a sports team is all fine and dandy is beyond insane. What even ties you to your team at that point? Money plays a huge role in european soccer too, especially in english football, but jeez at least Chelsea still plays in Chelsea, Liverpool still plays in Liverpool and ManU and ManCity still play in Manchester
We don’t think it’s okay. There is a huge outcry when moves are proposed or happen. Just look at the Arizona Coyotes in the NHL and how pissed everyone is. But we’ve got a bunch of shit head owners and commissioners who only care about squeezing as much money as possible into their pockets. And the commissioners are a big part of the problem, the leagues themselves want the money too so they don’t care about ripping a team from its fan for a chance at more cash
@@liamvlasimsky3026 If you want to encourage life long loyalty from a fanbase in the States, I think you need to drop all the names (Raiders, Dolphins, Lakers etc) and use the name of the city as the primary moniker, with a generic Rangers, United, Wanderers, County, City, Town, or such added. In England we don't name clubs after animals. We name them after places. Before I'm corrected, The Wolves doesn't count. It is the abbreviated form of Wolverhampton Wanderers. You could not buy them, move them 15 miles up the road and call them the "The Birmingham Wolves". There would be a riot. That is why MK D**s are so hated.
Technically Chelsea play in Fulham (there's about 100 yards in it), but as Jimmy Greaves said-"Chelsea. It's the greatest name in the world. Think about it".

Great video about Wimbledon AFC. As a Pompey fan I loved seeing Curtis smash in that goal! Especially with Brown putting the ball in the box. Saying that, I'm pretty sure that goal meant a lot more to the Wimbledon fans!
As a sutton united fan, this story is undeniably insane and only makes me hate mk dons more. Despite hating Wimbledon due to our rivalry, this story only makes me respect their journey a lot more!!
That end made me belly laugh, momma sure ain't raised no snitch with you. Great video to a grand story of football. When I was introduced to the reborn Wimbledon FC, a few other cities in Europe already went for the same after the Don's example. Chemie Leipzig was founded fresh by students and maybe more importantly for the mainland: so was Austria Salzburg after the club had been bought by the energy drink brand that should have stayed in fringe sports and never ever come into football. But (gods be thanked!) no club that I have in mind was ever moved to another town or city, like Wimbledon was. Maybe 2nd Bundesliga's Wehen-Wiesbaden counts as such but it was two clubs merging into one bigger club, which has happened quite a few times in football history. It's sad that they lost their traditional home and club history of the SV Wehen though.
Wehen-Wiesbaden is 2nd division now??? Good for them. I lived in Germany in 2016 and was an Au Pair for a kid that played for Wehen-Wiesbaden's youth team. Always had a soft spot for them since then but never kept tabs on them. Wehen is a tiny, tiny town. Would love to revisit the training facility sometime, it had a spectacular view of the area.
@@refragerator I honestly don't know the details of the merger so I can't comment on that but, at least the two are only 15-20 minutes apart. Pity to see two clubs disappear and become one but I suppose it is better than one or both failing.

Milton Keynes is not in northern London. Wimbledon FC had already left their community when they played at Crystal Palace. AFC aren't the only club in the 21st century to go from non-league to the EFL, they're the only club created in the 21st century to do it. Two clubs get promoted from non-league every year.
He means the only club "created" in the 21 st century the distance from plough lane to selhourst park is less than 10 miles and around 5 the distance from there to Milton keans is 80 miles
Minnesota is the land of TEN thousand lakes. Also Milton Keynes isn't in northern Greater London! It's 50 miles northwest of the edge of Greater London, in the English midlands. That's one of the reasons why the move was so awful: it made it impossible for Dons fans to properly support their team, because it just wasn't theirs anymore.
When i recognised the "Above" ost playing in the background I got chills. I'd never heard about this team's history but as a fan of another underdog team I'm rooting for them

It was such BS when Franchise FC were allowed to buy the club, but I’m happy to see them back home. Quite funny for me recognising pretty much all the places shown in the video 😂
This is what football is about: it is about people, community, and family. Players come and go, good and bad seasons come and go, but the team stays. This is what made me love football ⚽️ ❤
It might still be quite young. It might have started because of scummy behaviour by rich individuals with no notion of things that matter to ordinary people. But the Rivalry between AFC Wimbledon vs. MK Dons might become one of the best in English football one day, and I would live for that to happen

MK Dons were not the first franchise in English football. It was Arsenal, who were previously called Woolwich Arsenal based in Woolwich in SE London and were moved to North London by a wealthy businessman in 1913.

That Lidl was there before the current ground and apartments.

For reference, Minnesota is nicknamed Land of 10,000 Lakes. Not 1000 lakes.
But overall, top tier content as always!
At a certain point, one would surely stop counting. I suspect that's earlier than the 1k mark
@@paulie-gnope Minnesota has actually have close to 12,000 lakes than 10,000 or even 1,000
@@theodosiusii408My point is that past 1k it no longer matters: it is then officially a metric f-ckton of lakes, which extends to positive infinity.
Hey just throwing this in here but how insane a number is that, now just a bit North and a bit over, Ontario, the province in Canada, has a 3rd of the entire worlds lakes in it. NA has so many lakes 😂
Didn’t expect you to watch one of my videos, but appreciated.
The whole of English football cheered, everyone hates MK Don's.
I think you'll find a lot actually don't care because it has nothing to do with them, and sad people online like to pretend they dislike MK Dons for an easy morale high ground
I’m a Pompey fan. My missus and her family are lifelong Wimbledon fans. We were there and it was the most craziest I’ve ever seen a football ground. incredible moment
Absolutely brilliant video.
The old site actually has flats on it as the sanction for a supermarket never went through.
But thanks for the video top class. That curtis goal still makes me go cold everytime I watch it.
And the flats are named after Wimbledon FC players of yore.
4:20 Milton Keynes isn’t in Northern Greater London, it’s in Buckinghamshire. Which is 50 miles away from Wimbledon.
Dude swung and missed on a bunch of the American stuff, by quite a bit.
I was looking to see if somebody else noticed that.
sounds like northern greater london to me
I explained this on a different comment but... Americans have to treat things differently.
Nearly the entire east coast of the US is classified(by geographers, sociologists and public works planners) as one giant city called "Megalopolis." It's a constant string of major cities surrounded by dozens of minor cities and suburbs continuously from Vermont to North Carolina. Americans just pick the nearest major city and add "Greater suburban (your city) area" for their region when talking to other Americans who are from other areas. I'm a half hour outside Baltimore and 3 cities of 50k+ are closer. Doesnt matter, I'm from the greater Baltimore/DC area. Very few people would know if I said Westminster, Owings Mills or Timonium, even on the other side of the same state (Maryland). These concerns about accuracy in identification dont even register to us, since we regularly drive farther than your entire country. When we look at the UK map and see MK, we say "Okay is it closer to London, Manchester or Glasgow?" and that's our answer.
Just being honest, not saying anything's wrong with either point of view. I'm glad you guys have a stronger sense of local identity. I'm glad we have a lot of room to spread out. You require accuracy to understand, we have to keep it general or nobody would have a point of reference. Just a product of the way we both live.
@@tmw4828 It is a 36 mile drive from Stadium:mk to the border of Greater London. You start in pretty much the furthest part of Bucks away from London and pass through two other counties in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire before you finally reach Greater London.
And MK Dons fans having the "We're keeping the Dons.....Get over it!" is Grade A generational hatred....
Sometimes I think “it’s been 20 years, let Milton Keynes have their club, it’s not like Arsenal weren’t formed in relatively the same way.”
Then I remember the guy who used to send me “you’re welcome” from Moana whenever Dele Alli scored for Spurs.
There's no such thing as an MK Dons fan, only MK Dons customers
It’s really no surprise that the people who support a club bought by a douche bag are douche bags themselves

Great video, introducing the history and the controversy! Well done! Just one thing, on 17:25, you introduce the next clip to be from 2022, when it actually happened in 2024. Other than that, perfect stuff from you. Thanks for telling the story
A lot of people forget Charles Koppel in all of this
Chairman from 2000-2002 who was the one who sold the club to Winkleman and helped the deal get done.
I remember the talk of them moving to Dublin a good while ago, excellent video and im delighted like most to see them back.
Tony Blair tried to move them to Northern Ireland to play at a new national stadium. Wanted them called Belfast United. Everyone told him that was a terrible idea.
Although it probably is what led to The Belfast Giants Ice Hockey Team, so it all worked out
As a afc Wimbledon fan this is an amazing video
@Ned-Ryerson the only exciting part of Mk (apart from the concert I was seeing) was leaving or the only arcade I found in the shopping centre
As a Wimbledon fan this gave me goosebumps!

I am an Arsenal fan and I hate MK Dons.
Fantastic video. Thank you for making this. This really is one of the true grit stories of the Lower Leagues, told by someone who has actually researched it well!
God, why am I about to cry watching this especially when the goal happens. Lord, the beauty of sport.
This is the second video i've watched of yours, the first being about Riccardo. I love to see your enthusiasm, knowledge and understanding about the game and what it means to people outside the US man. You're funny and entertaining and a great story teller, keep it up! - Life long Arsenal fan, and wombles fan lol.
Long time Wimbledon fan, this moment was indeed better than winning the fa cup the most emotional moment in 50 years of watching them thanks to everyone one who has contributed to the journey.
This is why football is much more than just a game
Sports have been taking a nose dive in popularity over here for a multitude of reasons, franchises included.
@@liamvlasimsky3026 Arizona Coyotes? You mean the old Winnipeg Jets.

@@maxanderson755 Wehen is great, Wiesbaden is great, the club being a mix of the two isn't.
@@refragerator I honestly don't know the details of the merger so I can't comment on that but, at least the two are only 15-20 minutes apart. Pity to see two clubs disappear and become one but I suppose it is better than one or both failing.
Great video, you missed out the part where the club were trying to move to Dublin though.
Great video dude, liked and subbed. You clearly have immense passion for the sport. This was all the more enjoyable for being an outside perspective, i remember the outrage and shared it, even though it had nothing to do with me.
That's pretty cool it was one of your clubs former players that scored that iconic goal.
I'd never heard about this team's history but as a fan of another underdog team I'm rooting for them
Excellent. Well done! Great video. I have big soft spot for Wimbledon. Used to enjoy going to the old Plough Lane with my club - Portsmouth.

It might still be quite young. It might have started because of scummy behaviour by rich individuals with no notion of things that matter to ordinary people. But the Rivalry between AFC Wimbledon vs. MK Dons might become one of the best in English football one day, and I would live for that to happen
78 games unbeaten?! Holy shit! Thanks for this video! I was always interested in the AFC Wimbledon/ MK Dons story but never heard the full story till now. Very interesting. MK Dons were not the first franchise in English football. It was Arsenal, who were previously called Woolwich Arsenal based in Woolwich in SE London and were moved to North London by a wealthy businessman in 1913.
its not the same, we moved out if necessity for financial reasons and we moved in 1913 btw.
@@shaynacameron4530 Ok changed it. 1919 was when they entered the top flight. MK moved also for financial reasons so I don't see a difference there. The big difference though is that the Arsenal move was welcomed by most.
