Thanks so much for these tips. I have the exact same hair type as you and the same issue with my scalp showing, makes me self conscious. Most times I wash my hair I don’t have time to spend styling like this, I wish I had more time.
I've started twisting my hair at my cowlick and it seems to be closing the parting on the back of my head. Brushing my hair back while still wet helps too. I was pinning the hair to cover the spot overnight and that helped give me more coverage in the morning since I could spray it with hairspray before taking the pin out. My hair is medium density, but a lit of it wants to live on the left side of my head.
i’m a male growing out my hair and my curls are just like yours, i’ve been so insecure the past few months cause i thought i was blading bad cause of how much of my scalp i could see from the back.. thank you so much for this video!
one more thing....a stylist taught me a trick with the diffuser to help with the areas on the back of my head that separate. She said to push the teeth of the diffuser onto the problem area so that it's flat against my scull (low heat) and twist it and hold it for a few seconds. It really helps to lift the hair off of my scalp and it spreads it so my thin spots don't show so much. I do that near the end of my drying after my waves are pretty dry.
I have just been discussing my double crown with my hair stylist. I didn't even know I had one until I started my journey of taking better care of my hair. It seems that I've been rocking a bald patch for many years! Not any more now I know the tricks, thanks Gena 😁
You are my new hero. I have been sulfate free for many years but have been over washing and in need of a cut. The other day I went into my bathroom with a scissors and came out with shoulder length hair. 👍🏻 Since then I've been trying to focus on shampooing less and really collecting tips for styling my thin, 2b hair and your videos on scalp coverage have really helped me! Today I actually adore my hair and it's ALL due to one of your videos. I stopped applying my product upside down and that alone has helped tremendously! I am so thankful to have found you. The manner in which you explain each step is so very helpful and I truly appreciate you.
This was amazing! I’ve never seen anyone talk about this and I’ve never known how to fix these “holes” in my hair. I style upside down so I’ll be trying upright from now on❤️
Thanks heaps for this, Gena! I've got a double crown at the back of my head, and OMG, it sooo makes me look like I'm bald! It's shocking! My hair does tend to fall forward towards my face too, so this video's really helpful! Thank you girl! xxoo
I love how you say use whatever brush you have and not like every other curly hair channel telling us we HAVE TO get a Denman brush. I have a brush that looks exactly like a Denman brush and didn't cost nearly as much and works just as well. We curly girls spend enough money on our products.
I've watched this video so many times to learn how to do brush styling correctly, especially with my cowlick in the back 😊 I'll get it right one of these days and it will be fab 😊
My hair is even less dense. But your tips still have been helpful! The scalp line by curlsmith is amazing for low density hair, really lightweight and the cleanser is great. Also using the two oils has helped gain baby hairs in the front for me!
Today was my wash day and my hair feels lighter because of ur videos I don't have all the products but I stopped using oil in my hair and started with conditioners that leave my hair less frizzy ... Your tips are so helpful ... 🌻🙏
Hi Gena. Omg this is one of the most helpful videos I’ve seen for thin hair. I always struggle with scalp showing especially from using DC up until 4 mos ago. I’ve been trying the scalp serums and vitamins to try and get more growth on the crown and hairline. Of all the hair influencers I have come across you are the most informative and take the time to explain everything so well. I will recommend you highly on other sites that I follow. Thanks for all your help!
Thanks for this video. I always struggle with my crown area because that’s where my hair is the thinnest. I usually style that part upside down to stop it clumping as much, but I might have fo try your brushing in diagonal sections trick.
Hi Gena, thank you so much for this video. My hair are so similar to yours and all your tips are really helpful. I live in Canada and winter is fast approaching :) I was wondering if you could share any winter routine to care for curly hair? Also, any tips on how to take care of curls when we have to wear beanie when we have to go out in winter?
Hello! I am a fan of your videos (and the reason why I tried things like a Denmark brush or olaplex 😊). Unfortunately, I have hair loss diagnosed by a tricologist, and one of the side effects of having less hair is that it gets extremely oily, which is completely at odds with products and techniques for curly hair. I tried several times your way of styling, but only upside down works for volume and delaying greasiness on my scalp. From your experience with different products and techniques, what would you recommend as possible adaptations to fine, thin, super oily hair? Thank you so much!
I'm going to have to try these. I've been using texture spray to keep the curls from clumping too much, but I wonder what the results will be if I do both. I have a huge cowlick on the back of my head. I've gotten it to be less noticeable, but it is a pain. I've started turning the diffuser away from my scalp and that helped keep my roots from sticking to my head. I also brsh it back and forth with a small bristle round brush and using a bobby pin at night to pin it the opposite way. I still have to use some hair spray on that area, but ut is getting easier.
This is awesome. Thank you so much. I will definitely try this styling technique as my hair does fall so weirdly all over my crown area. This was so helpful ❤️❤️
Thanks for the demo Gena Marie. Your hair always looks perfect. Maybe mine would if I would take the time to coil it with a brush. I have never tried that. I don't think that I have the patience! It seems SO tedious. Maybe one of these days. Also, my hair is not very long, only jaw length and it's more difficult handling the shorter hair.
@Anna Burns I have the same problem! I think shorter hair is more difficult. Plus I haven’t found anyone showing how to style shorter hair. Parts of my hair are straight and trying to train them to become curly takes more energy than I have. 😁
Thank you for another awesome video! Can you please do a video regarding protein free products for low porosity hair. from shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, leave in, cream, and gel. A lot of videos talk about low porosity hair but don’t talk about the products to use. This would be so helpful.
I have fine high porosity hair and fairly high density. I have a cowlick at my crown. I will use a dark root touch up spray or a roller clamp at my crown to dry close together. It’s taking practice.
Thank you sooooo much i learned alot from your videos what great pleasure to know how to fix my own hair cause it is exactly like yours thanks for the tips and I'm looking forward to next video🌻🙏
Hello Gena Marie.... In my youngest years I had my scalp showing..not at all now..I don't know if it's from stopping relaxing my hair And going curly for well over 15 years.. Great tutorial 🙂 Sincerely Tee Jay
Thank you for your amazing videos. Unfortunately, my thin 3b curly hair somehow has lost its curl on my crown at the hairline, plus there is excess breakage to those hairs. The rest of my hair is crazy curly - LOL. I will try some of the techniques to cover the scalp, but any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks again for delivering such amazing content. Hugs!
thanks GenaMarie for this very useful video I have hair a bit like yours and it is very useful with all the explanations but it would be useful if you could make a sort of summary at the end with the fundamental steps and how to treat the hair in each step quickly one after the other so we can remember better otherwise between one explanation and another I forget what had to be done before. For me it would be very useful in all your videos that I like a lot and that are very well detailed that there was then at the end this sort of summary with all the steps so when I wash my hair I look at those and I remember everything. Thanks anyway again
I do this for every video. There is a blog post linked the description box below the video. Here's the one for this video: genamarie.co/2020/10/how-to-cover-your-scalp-styling-techniques-for-thin-curly-hair/
Thanks for your tips! They are extremely helpful 🙌 I like to use a colored dry shampoo. Gives me the volume and covers the scalp. I’m not completely into the CGM. So batiste works great for me
I swear, Batiste was made for curlies like us. Though in my scalp the "classic" works better than the coloured ones. It also helps a lot when products weigh down my curls and make them look limp, which happens so often.
Great video with good info. My issue is I don't have time in the morning to do a big hair routine.i typically shower at night and try to go to bed on dry hair. I also have a 1.5 year old so time is not something I have. Any tips for night showerers to style in the AM? Also I'm on month 3 of transition and my hair is longer so I don't have as defined curls as you. My hair goes straight when brushing and comes back with a scrunch.
Child look up flaxseed gel u make from flaxseeds its healthy like wearing a healthy hair mask and u can even brush curly hair and it not frizz just make a nice frizz free hair please try it
I've tried a pure flaxseed gel a while back and my hair didn't respond well. It got super frizzy and evaporated as soon as I went outside (i live in high humidity)
I have been using a biotin spray from Hask. (Purple bottle). I spray it all over when my hair is half way dry. I finish drying and spray it again. It does help a bit.
Hii!! My hair was very thick in 2019 and kinda long. Now its gotten even longer, it covers all of my back but its gotten SO THIN. Im very insecure about it especially if its let out. Wet or not u can still see so much of my scalp. And in the shower it wont stop coming out. Idk what to do. I dont have any deficiencies so i dont rlly have any other answers
my hair density shows in the front :( really full in the back but front ughhh. my hair is also fine. I love doing like a bouffant hair style, but you can see through my bangs that I twist up. :( I can however hide it by side parting. SoI guess it's not that big of a deal. Thank you for this video. I appreciate it.
hey gena ur hair is perfect as usual....do u use heat protectant on ur hair to protect hair from hair dryer? I heard dimethicone protects hair but we don't use silicones so what ingredients are we looking for to protect our hair from heat if we don't use silicones ? please help. thk u xx
I cant brush my hair wet if i want it to stay curly because then i have no volume whatsoever at the root..and i get no curl..so brushing it wet is not an option for me
Hi, please please please answer my question! I am so stuck. How do I combine, deep conditioning, clarifying and prepooing in my wash day routines? I was my hair two times a week at sunday and wednesday. How many times should I prepoo and what about deep conditioning? I also urgently need to clarify my hair. Please help me arrange my monthly schedule for 4 weeks.
Hi! Idk if you ever figured it out but I would say to prepoo before every wash day or at the very least before a clarifying wash. You should clarify when your hair needs it but once a month Is a good starting place. Deep conditioning: just swap it out for your normal conditioner when your hair needs it (again, once a month is a good rule of thumb).
HEY ! Can someone please help me ? I want my hair to be thicker and way curlier at the roots , my hair is long with a fade on the sides but it gets annoying , i want a blowout ( search it up if anything ) i want my hair to be as curly as it is on the tips. I have thin hair and end up not washing my hair after sweating because it will get super fizzy , so basically i’ll wash it then go outside the next days and not even wet it . What can I do to my hair after sweating when it’s not my wash day and also how do i get more curls at the roots for my soon to be new haircut ? Thank you to anyone who helps

Hair fibers like Toppik or Boost n Blend are also great and give more density than a root spray.

Every time I’ve tried using a brush, my hair goes straight and I have no clumps at all. Any suggestions?
Have you tried using it on wet hair? I have a looser pattern than Gina and using a brush works for me only when I style my hair wet.

I love your channel so much, and you look like Jaime Lynn spears.
Thank youuu
You don't have that much thin hair.. mine is sooo balding. Covid sucks!
My scalp still shows all over my head because my hair is way thinner despite doing these things. I hate having pcos 😑
I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with pcos 😔❤️
Can I do this technique with mouse
Yeah!
Mine is in the front 🥺
I hope these tips still help 💕
❤️❤️❤️
Stupid question.. Horizontal vs vertical brushing? What is the difference? It all looks the same... Thank you
It’s the shape/direction of the hair section you pick up, and the direction in which you hold the brush
AFIQAH
Compared to my hair you don't have low density hair. Mine is a lot less and there is no way this would work for my hair.
Low density hair is said to be less than 2 inches in diameter when gathered in a ponytail. Mine is around 1.5 inches around.
Sorry I didn't mean you don't have low density I was trying to emphasize how little hair I have.
@@Nfriesen91 same girl same 😫
Wow that’s a lot of product. Stay away from fire
What... thats completely full hair of head. Weird.
