Every single UA-camrs saying exactly same thing so I bought them both.... GoPro doesn't overheat, no lock ups so far... Regardless of all the cool handy features on DJI....GoPro has a better picture... sorta the main point..My 2 cents.
Just bought the Action 4 yesterday after selling my freezing, file corrupting and overall unreliable GoPro 11. Kind of miss the _idea_ of unlimited cloud storage, daily highlight clips and cool effects like the vehicle light trails but honestly I'm blown away with the Osmo Action 4's ease of use, the front touch screen, the battery life etc already. The Action 4 "just works" which to me is the most important feature in any device/thing I use. I got super frustrated with the GoPro more times than I can count. Especially when I wanted to use it to record our bands gigs and practice sessions. Thought I could just mount the camera somewhere, press record and edit the clips later. More often than not the files were corrupted, the camera needed to be rebooted by taking the battery out and so on. Glad to finally have a video camera with which I can actually shoot video. :D
100% Sick of gopro unreliability - using these cams is supposed to be fun - but with gopro its a chore. Never again - going over to DJI - fingers crossed!
I tell you - I bought a couple of the A4 - they are easier to use, far more responsive, better battery life and better low light video (I record my band mostly - so difficult lighting at gigs) - the ONLY 'gotcha' for me is that the gopros give you a RAW audio track (if you activate it) so the sound quality is way better - the A4 is OK but compresses madly to stop distortion at high levels - so I just use a Sony PCM audio recorder.@@michaelfrymus
I don't understand how most reviewers keep saying the image quality between these two cameras is the same. Gopro's image quality is on a different level. For example look at any frame during the lens comparisons, let's take 5:05 for example. Her face is completely flat, featureless, and overexposed on the DJI whereas the gorpo you can see her freckles and other features on her face. Look at the T-shirt, on the DJI it is a washed out gray blotch, on the Gopro you can actually the texture and the design on the fabric. Finally, look at the gray bottom of the brick wall to her right, on the Gopro you can clearly see the holes on the wall but on the DJI it looks practically flat, zero detail. DJI "looks" brighter because it overexposes in most cases, look at her sunglasses, I doubt they're as clear as they look on the DJI that has nothing to do with the "bigger sensor". Ease of use may go to the DJI but Gopro produces better images.
I have the same doubt. Are these paid reviews? I can clearly see GoPro has the better image quality. But all over UA-cam people recommending Action 4. I don't really understand, am I missing something?
good catch PLUS... i think it's the issue of not focusing properly? Didn't DJI had this withe one of the previous models? there is no way she is in focus, the leafs behind her are.. focus is the sharpness on the glasses as the gopro side..
I recently bought an OA4, needing to replace my old GoPro7. I'm really pleased with it and this review explains quite a lot of the reasons. The nice thing is that in 2023 there are no really bad action cams in the mainstream (GoPro/DJI/Insta360). For me it was not needing 5.3K, not needing vertical video much, but the magnetic mount and front touch screen, which fit my usage cases more than the GoPro are worth switching.
For the casual user, you're correct. For everyone else, the gopro sucks. The only reason why I bought an 11 is someone stole my gopro 7 and the action 3 was having sharpness issues and I needed something right away. This thing glitches and overheats just as much as my 7 did plus you have to buy extra accessories to get decent audio out of it. I will say that the stabilization and horizon lock are second to none, but from a usability standpoint, I hate it.
@@summitwithstevie6934it's solid. It still clips in, the magnets just center the mount and helps hold it on. You still have to push a button to release it.
I will Be tell go pro in night give us more natural light what can be advantage all car lamps , any lamps etc than this brighter Dji what looks less natural . All depends what we like . love this chanel and all work put in in . Great job !
At minute 7.03 you say that the Go Pro 12 has a big advantage when using maximum lens mode due to horizon lock. Not only is the field of view larger, but the camera also maintains a flat, completely inverted horizon EAS can be very helpful in overall stabilization Why do you use Rockstady Plus and not the Horzion equalizer from Osmo 4 in this comparison? I had the Osmo4 and the Go pro12 I returned the Go Pro 12 Why When it gets dark or dusk, the Go Pro12 no longer makes nice films way too dark and too pixelated And on days when it's gray and the sun doesn't shine, the 4 makes the nicer films in most situations Thank you for the great video
I agree both are cery close now. I prefer the DJI Action 4 just for the mount alone. Especially when doing cycling with OA4 quick option to unmount, quickly film something and then remount back on the bike. Thanks for making the video
I promised myself that I wasn’t going to watch yet another GP vs OA4 video, but had to watch yours! On some reviews I tend to prefer the GP, on some, like this one I preferred the OA4. Bottom line they are both better-at some things. Doesn’t the OA4 have a horizon steady option in 4K 60 and below…so good to approx 45 degrees…would meet most of my needs if so. I do like the software options for star trails etc on the GP (11 and 12), but the OA4 just works well overall. I can see why you have both!
"Horizon Balancing" is available in 4K but to a maximum rotation of 45 degrees only before the image tilts. "Horizon Steady" will keep the horizon level at any orientation but does not support 4K
I appreciate both cameras for what they bring to the table and similar to you, lean towards one for usability which is why I totally concur with your closing statements. That being said, I find your review to be very thorough and cover far more intricate details which other reviewers lack such as testing the internal mics from behind as an example. As a vlogger who uses an Action camera, your angle from a vlogging perspective also means far more to me too than those showing skying, mountain biking and etc. Keep up the great work on your channel (in fact both channels), Suzi!
Exactly the Same comments from my side.. this is the most professional and detailed comparison video I've seen till now for both these Cameras. Really appreciable effort ❤
I own both but find myself using the Hero 12 more. The image quality is so good, it’s easy to use in a variety of settings, and I have yet to experience any overheating or freezing or any other issue. They’re both great, but if I could only keep one, it would be the GoPro. Very nice review!
Thanks you for the input. Can you tell me your opinion on both. I plan on doing a lot of shots in forest environment and the low light quality seems to push me more toward the Osmo Action 4 but I like the go pro 12 more in every other scenarios
@@NNox_ The Action 4 does seem a bit better in low light, but neither one is what I would call good in that situation. I use mine for vlogging and will just use my phone or another camera if the lighting is really low. They’re both really good overall; I just prefer the GoPro, primarily for its image quality and better stabilization, IMO.
For me the biggest selling point for gopro 12 is the fact you can film in full, Then easily swap the footage to vertical in the app. I love the idea of never having to remove the camera to turn it sideways and remount it. Does action 4 do anything like this? Its ads didnt show anything like that. Still promoting in the videos of removing it and turning it sideways to shoot. Also, how do you compare the editing software for each brand? thanks@@jonmnelson
@craigshandworld fair point. I didn't know you can do it. To add to this I saw a lot of reviews stating that it go pro is less reliable ( freezing and stuff ). If it's important to you, keep in mind that the action 4 also support fast charging
The battery life of the GoPro seems as good. Overheating at 35 min occasionally does not seem a big issue. How many times you need to make such long clips with an action camera? An interesting battery test comparison would be shooting 20 or 30 min clips. Then turn the camera off for a while. Repeat. And then see how much longer after one camera dies the other can have power. It would be a more real life usage comparison. I agree with you about the usability advantages of the DJI action 4. Is the action 3 as good in low light? Anyway 5K cam be useful for cropping video or for printing still images from a frame. I prefer the less wide lens of the GoPro for a more natural look and perspective
@@EricNorthstar that is true. Still bike riding may prevent overheating thanks to the airflow. I mostly use action cams in the ocean, where overheating is no problem, but battery life is important, as there is no way I can swap batteries while in the water. Actually my Action 2 does not operate properly when water is below 14 C 57/55 F. No issues with the GoPro. But I would like to know if the battery of the Action 4 actually significantly outlasts the GoPro's with multiple short clips
On a strictly IQ basis, the Hero 12 seemed to have much better clarity and sharpness to my eye, but obviously notsomuch in low-light. I appreciate you outlining the quality of life features and considerations, excellent comparison vid
I'm pleased that you included at least a mention of the GoPro Media Mod in your comparison. Most reviewers don't bring it up. Yet, it is a useful accessory, and I don't think there is an equivalent product for the Action cameras. The Media Mod is poorly designed, but it is still a very useful product and its mere existence could be a reason to choose a GoPro over the DJI Action. However, I was hoping you'd also include at least a casual mention of the GoPro quick release buckles. As with most reviewers, you compared the Action's magnetic quick release with the GoPro's fixed mount - the finger mount. However, GoPros also come with their own quick release buckle mount. No one ever brings that up. There's no question that the Action's magnetic quick release is faster and more convenient than the GoPro finger mount. However, how does it compare to GoPro's quick release system? That would be a more valid comparison. It's better to compare quick release to quick release, not one camera's quick release to another camera's fixed mount. I use the GoPro quick release system to move my GoPro from the Jaws grip to the GoPro 3-Way Grip to the Chest Harness to the Handler to the bicycle mount. All of these use the GoPro quick release system, and I never have to touch the GoPro fingers or thumbscrews at all. And nobody brings it up, but the design of the Action's magnetic quick release means that the camera sits much higher on the mount AND you are forced to use the magnetic quick release at all times. The magnetic base sits on top of the usual GoPro fingers with a thumbscrew (which is why it sits so high). It's not like the thumbscrew and fingers are gone. They're still there. The magnetic mount sits on top of them. And because it is designed in this way, you MUST use the quick release system 100% of the time. You don't have a choice. I prefer the GoPro approach in which the fixed mount (thumbscrew and fingers) is more separate from the quick release mount. You can use the fixed finger mount if you choose. Or you can use the quick release mount. You can use one or the other depending on the situation or your needs. It's a choice. But the Action's system forces you to use the magnetic quick release mount all the time. And it's true that the Action's approach to the custom presets combined with the Quick Switch button is more convenient than the GoPro's custom preset system. However, in a complete comparison, it should be noted that the GoPro's power button also doubles as a quick switch button. It doesn't switch between presents, but it does switch the camera between modes, which could be enough for most people. Plus, pressing a combination of the GoPro record button and the power button, DOES call up a menu of your custom presets. It's not a great system, but it does exist. GoPro cameras also have four shortcut buttons that are a powerful and fast way of changing settings without having to use presets at all. Personally, I don't even use presets. I use the shortcut buttons to quickly change the settings if I need to. As far as I'm aware, the DJI Action cameras don't have any customizable shortcut buttons. I know that if I switched to an Action, I'd miss those shortcut buttons. I use them all the time. Speaking of usability features, there might be a couple of other areas where the GoPro system could be preferable. I find the implementation of the scrubbing tool on the GoPro to be much better than that of the Action. It's a tool that I use all the time. People have also noted that the playback volume of the Action is too low. It can be inaudible in outdoor spaces. Playback audio on the GoPro is much louder and easier to hear in public spaces. I was also a bit confused by your battery life tests and comparisons. To me, battery life and overheating are two different things. The fact that a camera overheated and shut down doesn't mean that the battery ran out. In my case, I never record with a camera so long that it ever overheats anyway. It's kind of a non-issue. But if it overheat, I wouldn't conclude that this means it has short battery life. The camera shut down, not the battery. It doesn't tell me how long the battery would last under normal conditions. Even if your camera overheats and shuts down, you just let the camera cool and start recording again. The battery will still have power to keep shooting video. I've been trying to figure out how long the batteries last in the new Hero 12. But reviewers seem to be talking about overheating and not actual battery life for a normal person. Anyway, I enjoyed your video very much. You bring up a lot of great points that other reviewers have missed. 😀
All very fair points. TBH I’ve never used the GoPro buckle quick release because I often end up pinching my fingers so it never crosses my mind to mention it. For battery life and overheating, I do think they’re related because if I can’t continue filming because the camera overheated, a long battery life doesn’t matter…but I see your perspective on it too.
Superbly done and I would concur with your assessment...I think DJI has just got it really figured out how to make these cameras truly useful. Battery life is huge, especially for doing POV BTS....since I don't have an action camera now, the DJI is the one I am going toward. Thank you for your great review (and your little guy is such a sweetie!).
OA4 footage looks super soft in the brick alley compared to GP12. Did it have a filter on it? There is so much more detail in your grey shirt, face, etc. I bought the GP12, but returned it because it's essentially the same as my GP11. Both are decent options.
I prefer the GoPro Hero 12 since I already using GoPro and have accessories for it and a bunch of enduro batteries. But I like to try the DJI Osmo Action 4 in one of these days. The only downside of GoPro, at least for me is it is not good when it comes to shooting at low light.
This review is truly very professional, comprehensive and above all very honest. Compliments. Therefore I subscribed to your Channel and I will follow you with great interest. I'm an old GoPro fan: I own the 4, the 7, the 9 and the 10. I didn't buy the 11 because it was actually an update to the 10. From everything I've read, the 12 doesn't convince me. So, thanks to this excellent review of yours, I decided to switch to the DJI Action Osmo 4. I just wanted one last piece of information: is the DJI Osmo Action 4's horizon leveling active with all settings or is it limited to just one setting like the GoPro? Thank you very much, greetings from Italy.
Thanks, I always enjoy your videos. Did I understand correctly that the Media Mod on the Hero 12 now lets you record both mikes at once? I don't hate having to choose since I typically only use the front one but having the ability to record both could be very useful at times. I tend to agree that the average person will like the OA4 better and the low light performance is definitely better. But, honestly, a cell phone will do better at night so that's not a big deal for me. Also, the lack of sharpness in distant objects is disappointing. I will probably be upgrading from my Hero 10 and also buy the Max Lens 2.0 now that it's finally 4K ready. I think I will also add the magnetic quick mounts for useability.
After several issues with my GoPro cameras, that were never resolved by their supportteam (I would rather call them FAQ readers), I would go for the DJI products. But looking at the video quality, especially the structure of your t-shirt pattern, I must admit that GoPro is the clear winner. But do I still need an action camera in 2023, after all the video quality of my iPhone is so good that I would rather invest in more memory for the iPhone than buying a dedicated action camera? 3 different physical lenses, also decent vibration reduction and almost no issues with firmware bugs convinced me not to buy an action camera anymore, even while I miss the robustness. Great review BTW, not biased like many others.
Again the biggest question i have never gets answered. I understand and agree the external mic slotting straight in to the Osmo seems really beneficial but it looks fragile. Bear in mind these are action cameras above all else - would you run, mountain bike etc with the dji external mic attached on the side? For reference i have done all thise with the gopro media mod and rode wireless go attached with no issues. I'd be interested in your thoughts
I wanted the DJI based on usability but ultimately went with GoPro. For the kinds of things I need it to do, I could not rely on magnetic mounts being strong enough to hold it in place. Additionally that image stabilization combined with horizon lock and 5k resolution tipped the GoPro over the edge for me.
I've bought the action 4 and can say that the magnetic mount is very secure. For you to remove the camera you have to pinch the two clips before pulling it off. There's no way it can accidentally come off regardless of the activity. The video quality on the GoPro looks excellent though and arguably better in the day. No real bad choices out of the two - hope you enjoy!
A thourough and non-biased review. Great work! But for me, at the end of the day, image quality is the most important. The answer is given right at the beginning (0:14 and 0:29). Gopro blows DJI out of the water. Thx to sticking by the right firmware update, I've never ever had a Gopro freezing issue...
This is the best side by side comparison I've seen, and I've watched quite a few. I have to say that in almost every side-by-side example in your video, the GoPro has the better image quality (excluding low light). Because of my previous problems with prior GoPro cameras, the latest being the Hero 9, it pains me to say I'm probably going with the GoPro Hero 12. I do very little night shooting which helps with the decision. The magnet attachment is a huge game changer, so I'll spring for the aftermarket setup for the GoPro. I may kick myself around the block after this decision but we'll see. Subscribing to your channel.
Many thanks for this great comparison review. I currentlt have the go pro 10 and am looking to upgrade to the go pro 12 or the DJI 4. I use my camera for hotel room and facility tours and also street & beach walking tours. I currently only use the built in microphone and am looking to switch to a wireless microphone and also use a light for filming inside. Question: in your opinion which camera would be more suitable for my needs? Which wireless microphone & light? Many thanks
I havre owned the GoPro 7,8,9,10,11 and now the 12 - I go for the #1 picture quality - I do action videos with no people - so I need #1 picture quality- most of my video are under 3 minute - many only 90 seconds
I really enjoy your videos. So thank you. With so many options out there, your comparison reviews stand out as straightforward and down-to-earth, and I really appreciate that. That being said, I believe that now, after numerous advancements driven by competition, these cameras have become quite similar in terms of performance. Ultimately, the choice between them boils down to personal preference and how our eyes perceive the color and quality of the image. I draw a parallel to the experience of choosing a TV brand. When I was in the market for a new TV last year, I was torn between various brands. Despite the allure of new features, we consistently found ourselves gravitating back towards Sony, a brand we had been loyal to for years. Interestingly, a salesperson in Japan explained that our eyes tend to adapt to what we're accustomed to, making it comfortable to stick with the same brand. Even if another brand boasts a newer model and claims it's "better," it doesn't necessarily mean our eyes will prefer what they see. So, while I wouldn't categorize it as brand loyalty, there's certainly something to be said for the comfort of familiarity.
Thnx for the comparison. However have a comment and a question. 1. DJI definitely perform better in low light but seem to have tendency to overexpose during the day. As such GoPro seem better for daytime videos. Comments ? 2. I like to do night video. I know neither is great but was wondering your opinion on going with a slightly higher ISO (maybe a ISO 800 or 1000) on gropro 12 with a gimbal. In ur option will that put it on level footing with DJI at night ? Any comments on noise on both for night video ? TYVM for ur opinion and feedback.
Suzi, thank for the great camera comparasion! Yeah for the better performance in lowlight and battery life and not ovwrheating I would go for the DJI Action 4!!! However I dont know why I just had to get the GoPro Hero12 and have been testing it out. Surprisingly I was able to video with it without overheating yet but so far only up to 47 mins (forgot to leave it on to let it overheat). My Hero11 would have overheated at 21 mins filming 4K60. Anyways going to keep using it and I know eventually I’ll get a Action 4! Thanks Suzi 🤗aloha 🤙🏽😊
Thank you very much! After all gopro's 100% dj camera for me is more trusted source to use. Main gopro problem over heating every camera every model just will never give it are go. Never ever
I'm really swaying to the dji, but the go pro has the big advantage incase I want to take photos. Primary use is for underwater whilst snorkelling. Would the dji still give 'ok' photos? Any advice gratefully received, or examples of photos even better!! Thanks
Great comparison, they seemed really good, especially for video quality. You probably can't go wrong with either one. I recently purchased the Action 4, my first DJI Action camera, I really like it so far. I've always owned GoPro's, but I think I will skip the Hero 12. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent as always. I own the GoPro 9. With lots of accessories but I’m leaning towards buying the DJI action. One thing I noticed in your video is the Dji looked overexposed on most of your video. Is it possible you had exposure compensation on the camera set or is this an issue.? Would you actually set the camera to under expose? I’m of course assuming the DJI has exposure compensation. Thank you again for what you do,
Since dji has bigger sensor I think it is taking more light. More light is always better because we can reduce brightness during editing is what I think. Voice is just excellent with dji. But clearly I can see more sharpness with go pro. I think since I already have go pro hero 8 it might be better to get dji for magnetic mount, more light on sensor, front touch screen etc. Also dji action 4 has no hanging problem..
I'm new to action cameras and bought a set of Hero 8s to get my feet wet. I'm really drawn to the Osmo Action 4 as an upgrade because of the usability and battery life consistency. Thanks for this review! Really great!
I wanna use a camera for vlogging, i've been looking at the dji action 4 & gopro hero 12 & sony zv-1 ii or zv-e10 or zv-1e, i'm wondering if you own all those cameras and might do a video suggesting which is the best for what you get? i wanna vlog, i already own a nikon d3300 but its big and heavy, and is 20.2 mp, the sony zv-1 ii is also 20mp but is also geared towards vlogging as well, I like the flexibility with the gopro and action for using it for action type shots if you need to use it for that, but as a person who doesnt want to buy lenses often for my future camera because of the expense, i was wondering what you suggest? I also know the camera isn't interchangeable on the sony zv-1 ii and notice that i do indeed use my bigger lens on my nikon to zoom into far away shots, but i have to say also the Nikon was given to me for free by my dad years ago. I was thinking of using the action camera mostly for vlogging but sometimes the quality does have blotchy looking pixels in videos even on high quality, i also wanna film inside my home, but the flexibility and the the combo stuff they sell witg the action 4 is so good, i also like how you can change the pixel sharpness as well on the action camera, because i noticed too some reviews look worse than others and i think it might have to do with the sharpness they applied in the dji settings! Thanks for reading and I love your videos!
Go pro is down bad (as we say in new orleans) for this update. I'd say the hero 13 is gonna be the one to get. Osmo just needs to catch up on that 5k who ever puts a bigger sensor in there is gonna really do well with the low light folks who vlog. Neither of these have my vote but im leaning to DJI for usability.
Another great video, thank you. I have bought into the GoPro system and will just stick with it based on all my extra goodies, but after buying the dji wireless mic after watching your video, now I want a dji camera, thanks again for the honest review
Another great review :) What a time to be alive to shoot videos/movies today - so much great tech easily accessible. BTW, did you have both cameras on the same gimbal? How do you do that?
If you are willing to get a media mod and rode wireless mic, it seems to get you the best audio and video, IMO. The max lens mod has been useful for me lately on my hero 12.
I was confused to choose one of the 2 action cameras. She has very detailed comparison and I think I know which one I should buy. Thank you so much for your video 🎉. Keep sharing your videos like this.
Can the Osmo action camera be connected to a Bluetooth microphone remotely Like Instamic? I have had the GoPro max as my first action camera for over a year, very disappointed I must say, for one thing, all my batteries started to bulge due to overheating, as a matter of fact, I just threw out four otherwise working batteries because they would not fit into the camera anymore due to overheating. Number two recording audio has been a problem and should’ve been addressed before they put the GoPro Max out on the market, being able to use a remote Bluetooth mic for instance being on a motorcycle and able to record audio while speaking from inside the helmet with camera being on the handlebars. I will appreciate your input. By the way your video was very informative. In fact, it was one of the best videos made if not the best.
GoPro has a better color and better view. But if your budget is limited, i'd suggest DJI. They offer package called Adventure Combo, which you got 3 batteries + charger box + and the grip. Plus you have Fast Charging feature in it.
The best of the small cameras for vlogging is the DJI Pocket series. Especially in low light the gimbal stabilization is far better than digital stabilization. The specialized action cameras are best for action and ruggedness, but their images are always too digitally enhanced for my liking for vlogging, but if choosing between the Action and GoPro, the GoPro offers more shooting modes and better hyperlapse options. Also the Action 4 is prone to jello artifacts when moving in visually complex environments like forest, while I never see that with GoPro. And the nearly square sensor also offers more options. Horizon leveling works better on GoPro, and the lens mod is brilliant. Plus the variety of Go Pro accessories is second to none. While I loathe the teenage girlie speckle look of the Hero 12, it is my first choice for action, but for vlogging there are several other cameras I prefer, including the Pocket, ZV-E10, ZV1, or Insta360 One X2. It is telling that I took both the Pocket 1 and 2 with me to India for the vlogging stuff, and a Panasonic G9 for main video and stills camera.
Thanks. Do you know whether an editing app for both brands are available and free for Mac users? I personally have Insta360 Go2 and very satisfied with its app.
Have been a Huge DJI OA fan boy since 2021. Looked into OA2 for a bit but, eventually, passed. Liked OA-1 so much, ended up getting 2d one & gifted sister. Anxiously waited for OA3 & snagged it when it came out!-lol. Now, am debating whether should buy OA4 but, seeing as having No major issues w/OA-1 & 3....may just hold off on that!...MAYBE-lol
Which one is better if you don’t have a PC and you will only use your iPhone/iPad to edit? My initial purpose for the camera will be for Cycling footage.
For me the two selling points for The Gopro Hero 12 are that you can have both screens on in high definition and the cloud storage. The Dji Action 4 only allows one screen at a time in high definition and DJI doesnt offer cloud storage.
Too many comparisons of the auto setting with blown out highlights in bright sun. Need more side by side videos with the exposure limit turned down on the Action 4
I noticed her forehead looked over exposed and detail washed out on the DJI. Overall the footage looked brighter. I assume there is an exposure compensation and if that was used it look better.
I have noticed in several videos a breathy quality to the voice overs. It might also contribute to the sibalance. Is a pop filter or dead cat being used ?
Hi Suzi thank you for a great video. I was sure I was going to get the GoPro12 as my first action camera. After seeing you comparison I am leaning to the DJI Action 4. Im very unsure which way to go. Im looking for the easiest to use, 5.3k is not important to me, stable and keeping the picture level even when I turn the camera is along with battery life. I only have a left arm as I lost my right one in a accident. Is the sound alot better when in front or behind with DJI? It was very interesting when you showed the go pro over heating way before the DJI. Thank you again.. Alan
Do you foresee changing the mount of the camera much, like from a helmet to chest cam to a stick etc? If so, I would think Action 4's mounting system would be a killer feature for you specifically, as it is extremely convenient for me as well (I have an Action 3 and super happy with it). GoPro is better at keeping the horizon levelled on a 360-roll, as it can do it on 4k resolution whereas Action 4 can only do it on 2.7k resolution IIRC. It's a feature though that I personally have not used even once with Action 3, but everyone has their own use cases and the use cases really should determine the selected camera. I do mostly fishing & biking with a chestcam and I believe either one would be good for those uses. For Action 3 (& 4) the two biggest killer features for me have been the 1) mounting system 2) battery cover/charger that charges 3 x batteries at once and quickly.
@Smudgah thank you Suzi for your your feed back. I am a novice that's for sure. I will get the Action 4 due to yhe battery and magnetic mounting system. I will change mainly between stick, shoulder and bike which will be yhe most I will use it. I think the 2.7k will be fine for me. I just want to have fun. Thank you again for your great feedback.
I concur that the DJI Osmo Action 4 is the best choice I've made. Unfortunately, I am currently stuck with the GoPro 12, but there are certain issues. The primary problem with the DJI Osmo is its availability, and it mainly offers video settings in 1080p. While it's user-friendly, the 10-megapixel sensor leaves something to be desired. Nevertheless, the package that comes with extra batteries and a stick is reasonably balanced for the DJI Osmo Action 4, despite my reservations. In contrast, GoPro seems to follow a different approach. They provide a quality sensor but require you to spend extra on accessories. Overheating and design problems, such as the water drain port, have been frustrating. I, like many others, mistakenly assumed it was a latch and broke the water drain port cover. It feels like GoPro hasn't been responsive to customer feedback. They appear to stick with a consistent hardware approach, similar to Apple, and yet people continue to buy their products. The GoPro 12 is my first action camera, and the expense of buying accessories separately has been a drawback. If GoPro maintains this attitude in the future, I might consider the GoPro 12 my last GoPro camera, and I'll likely switch to DJI.
Another spam profile bought by DJI and hyping the action 4. Youtibe is floated by such reviews, OIverheating is a huge problem on my action 4, records only 20 minutes. Video quality is average.
I don’t - was going to make one, but didn’t get around to it. I have a guide to the Hero 11 that is pretty similar though. ua-cam.com/video/r3aitG3-_bQ/v-deo.htmlsi=eTJAqhjtTp0RmVe_
First off, thank you for your videos. Not only are they informative, but I could listen to you speak all day. Some angelic quality to your voice or something. And I'm gay, so it's not like I'm hitting on you. LOL. That aside, I have been debating about jumping over to the Osomo Action, because pretty much everything else I use (barring actual cameras) is DJI; gimbals, drones, Pocket 1, 2, and now 3...but...I am still fully entrenched with GoPro because I have had every iteration since the 4 Black. But then again, my first few drones were Yuneec and I SWORE I would NEVER go to DJI because, well, honestly, I think it was because everyone I knew (at the time) who flew a DJI (Phantom 4) was kind of a D-hole. I finally caved and bought the Mavic 2 Pro way back when, and have never regretted it. I suppose I am going to cave (maybe when the 5 comes out), and do my own comparison. I'm just not not sure how much better ANY of these cams can get, short of including a optical zoom. Who knows? That might be next. Cheers, and please....keep making your amazing videos. All the best from NJ, even though I was actually born in Seattle and lived there for the first 5 years of my life. Will
Great video thank you for doing this! Unlike other reviewers, I really appreciate your honesty and thoroughness. You also have the benefit of filming in beautiful Seattle! Thanks again from a fan in Toronto. I'll be buying the DJI Action 4 based on your review.
Have you noticed any lens flare issue with the new Action 4? I noticed the camera produces a lot of bad reflection when pointing it in direction of the sun or any light at night. I don't see that issue with GoPro 11.
I was really thinking of upgrading from the Action 3 to 4. But you've now put doubt in my mind. Would I really be wasting my time and extra bit of money changing up??
The action alway looks blown out compared to GoPro especially on your face, go pro face shot much more flattering. I use the media mod always with a rode micro. For the action i had do get a special cage to use my mini light. I got the action specifically just to use a direct connect with my mic 2. As a video camera, the GoPro is still better, the action usually looks grainy when i compare mine side by side. I do a lot of diy video, which sometimes is low light, the DJI sucks unless you limit the iso. I am so used to GoPro for since i have been a goproer since the first GoPro, so it has been hard to learn a whole new camera, the interface is so different. The batteries on both suck. My hero 11 quits and goes to the repairing file all the time, it just stops, sucks, but at least it saves the file, before that footage was gone. Larry
I have a question, do we have the option to have invisible stick on the gopro ? It seems that we have an option on the DJI action 4 ( invisistick ) so you can remove the stick after you did your video with the software, great for selfie during activity. Thanks.
I wish I bought the DJI 😢 but GoPro did send me a free upgrade when the my 8 broke from overheating in less than a year. Though I am living in Mexico Yucatan, 🔥🥵 they upgraded my 8 for a 9 at no charge. 😊 Its been much better.
Gopro clearly has the better video quality and video features. Dji with the magnetic mount and battery performance probably just has it ahead. Really close.
As always. A good honest review / comparison I still have a Hero 8 Black Does the job and is actually used as a stand alone camera for 10 hours a day, six days a week. I have zero complaints with the Hero 8 if I am honest. A bit glitchy now and then but has been used non stop for two years plus Should I NEED ( Needs / Want are two different things remember ), I would likely go down the DJI path Keep up the good work
Every single UA-camrs saying exactly same thing so I bought them both.... GoPro doesn't overheat, no lock ups so far... Regardless of all the cool handy features on DJI....GoPro has a better picture... sorta the main point..My 2 cents.
That is what i conclude after been watching every comparison of both; gopro seems better with sharper, more detailed footage.
"Just works"... my sentiments exactly, and here lies the reason why the GoPro is dead.
100% Sick of gopro unreliability - using these cams is supposed to be fun - but with gopro its a chore. Never again - going over to DJI - fingers crossed!
Yup. Never had luck with GoPros. It was incredibly frustrating, so I'm debating the DJI, even though the GoPro does have a few specs that Id like
I tell you - I bought a couple of the A4 - they are easier to use, far more responsive, better battery life and better low light video (I record my band mostly - so difficult lighting at gigs) - the ONLY 'gotcha' for me is that the gopros give you a RAW audio track (if you activate it) so the sound quality is way better - the A4 is OK but compresses madly to stop distortion at high levels - so I just use a Sony PCM audio recorder.@@michaelfrymus
I have dji and gopro and image quality is better on the gopro.
@@almasiandrei2742 bs
I agree 100%! 👍
Also the sky and clouds look better on GoPro.
good catch PLUS... i think it's the issue of not focusing properly?
I'm still using a 7 and looking too upgrade.
Is the magnetic mount not dodgy maybe on a bike or hiking up a mountain.
Wouldn't wanna lose or drop it
@@summitwithstevie6934it's solid. It still clips in, the magnets just center the mount and helps hold it on. You still have to push a button to release it.
Am a gopro 7 user myself but my trip to New york did to much overheating and freezing I need a change
You have some of the best reviews on UA-cam. Thank you so much for sharing.
With the daylight GoPro wins, in the dark Dji wins
I will
Be tell go pro in night give us more natural light what can be advantage all car lamps , any lamps etc than this brighter Dji what looks less natural . All depends what we like . love this chanel and all work put in in . Great job !
At minute 7.03 you say that the Go Pro 12 has a big advantage when using maximum lens mode due to horizon lock. Not only is the field of view larger, but the camera also maintains a flat, completely inverted horizon
EAS can be very helpful in overall stabilization
Why do you use Rockstady Plus and not the Horzion equalizer from Osmo 4 in this comparison?
I had the Osmo4 and the Go pro12
I returned the Go Pro 12
Why
When it gets dark or dusk, the Go Pro12 no longer makes nice films
way too dark and too pixelated
And on days when it's gray and the sun doesn't shine, the 4 makes the nicer films in most situations
Thank you for the great video
I agree both are cery close now.
I prefer the DJI Action 4 just for the mount alone. Especially when doing cycling with OA4 quick option to unmount, quickly film something and then remount back on the bike.
Thanks for making the video
I have two solutions for this that are very simple. Actually 3 if you include the 3D printed mount I designed...
Thank you so much! I’m glad you appreciated the video 🙏
How much they pay you? 🙄
TLDR: her recommendation is DJI Osmo Action 4. Can thank me later
Ha ha.. thansk
I still watched 😊
Bless u ❤
Haha😂
I saw the tendency since the beginning thank you for saving me the time.
Truthfully, many like to use action cameras for long bike rides. Bike racers like to use action cams. Or hikes. 35 minutes is not that long
@@EricNorthstar that is true.
I'm totally agree with you, GP 12 had a lot more detail image quality then Action 4.
Thanks for a clear and constructive video. I am buying my first action camera and it's been very helpful. I am going with the action 4.
The details on the GoPro is so good, it almost looks like a MFT camera but ugh... the quirks of a GoPro...life is hard enough without them.
Thanks for the brief post.
No filter on either camera. I feel like the GoPro is a tad sharper at times.
GoPro has the pass through to connect a type c usb. Does the DJI 4 to connect a power bank? Hoping it does.
A great review/comparison of the 2 action cameras. Very well done and thanks for taking the time to make the video. A BIG thumbs up.
I wish someone would answer. I agree that it’s a point most reviewers aren’t mentioning.
The Magnetic mount also has a clip, it is very secure even in extreme cases
the magnetic mount not only rely on its magnet, it has 2 clips to secure the mount...so i dont think it is inferior to gopro's
the only way you will break the DJI mount is basically drive your car to the wall at 270km/h tho same as gopro i supposed with its plastic mount
I agree with you! Many people are shying away from GoPro because of the overheating issues
I would say having both would be the way to go. Especially since Go Pro's really crumble in low lighting.
GoPro has more filming capabilities which is what matters to a filmmaker in the end of the day. But they are really really close at this point
Спасибо.
Dji osmo Action 4 👍?
Thank you very much! After all gopro's 100% dj camera for me is more trusted source to use. Main gopro problem over heating every camera every model just will never give it are go. Never ever
I'm going with the GoPro because you can use it as a Webcam too. And there's a adapter to use the DJI-Magnet-Mount.
I'm really swaying to the dji, but the go pro has the big advantage incase I want to take photos. Primary use is for underwater whilst snorkelling. Would the dji still give 'ok' photos? Any advice gratefully received, or examples of photos even better!! Thanks
If it’s gonna be in the ocean a lot of the time the colours will be quite green on the osmo action
Great comparison, they seemed really good, especially for video quality. You probably can't go wrong with either one. I recently purchased the Action 4, my first DJI Action camera, I really like it so far. I've always owned GoPro's, but I think I will skip the Hero 12. Thanks for sharing.
Action 4 doesn't look like it's in focus in some of the footage, especially at the beginning. Also, no Night mode in low light testing?
Thanks for providing a very well done video, comparing and contrasting the 2 action cams.
Thank you again ❤ Samsung S22 OR iPhone 14 vs DJI 4 ? Flagship phones are better in many ways except for the price.
Thanks. Do you know whether an editing app for both brands are available and free for Mac users? I personally have Insta360 Go2 and very satisfied with its app.
What about this magnet moounting in DJI? is it safe? camera will not drop off?
Have been a Huge DJI OA fan boy since 2021. Looked into OA2 for a bit but, eventually, passed. Liked OA-1 so much, ended up getting 2d one & gifted sister. Anxiously waited for OA3 & snagged it when it came out!-lol. Now, am debating whether should buy OA4 but, seeing as having No major issues w/OA-1 & 3....may just hold off on that!...MAYBE-lol
First time (future) buyer of an action camera and I found your comparison video extremely informative. Thank you so much!
Fair points.
Thank you for this video. I am now sold on dji action 4. Been debating for the longest time on which one to get.
Great comparison video! Very thoughtful presentation.
Thanks for such a clear and fair comparison of the two leading action cameras out there.
4:04 I see Action 4 does a horrible job with the asphalt. There's no detail.
Thank you! Do you have a video with the settings you recommend using on the GoPro 12?
I don’t - was going to make one, but didn’t get around to it. I have a guide to the Hero 11 that is pretty similar though.

Agree with your conclusion! 👍👍
Will
Just Got the action 4 and took it to Paris. It’s an amazing action cam. So easy to use. Love the front screen.
Bought the Dji Action 4 camera, adventure combo. Couldn't be happier
And I'm going to buy the same most probably next month
Congratulations!
@@CoolAssasin me too
Excellent review 👏🏻 appreciate your honesty and Thank You for a great video. 🙏 I’ll go for DJI action 4 since I don’t do a lot of extreme sports.
Doesnt matter what you choose. Just get out there and film
This was so informative! Thank you.😎
I was really thinking of upgrading from the Action 3 to 4. But you've now put doubt in my mind. Would I really be wasting my time and extra bit of money changing up??
Yes
Larry
Thank you❤🎉🎉🎉 It’s my first time to buy an action camera and this is soo helpful!
I really appreciate you sharing your opinions. Great review
Thanks for these videos. Does the Hero 12 have a 16x9 frame at 5.3K and 4K?
Yes, it does!
I’ve had a few GoPro’s. All have glitched at some point. Very annoying. However for stills the GoPro is brilliant !
I have a question, do we have the option to have invisible stick on the gopro ? It seems that we have an option on the DJI action 4 ( invisistick ) so you can remove the stick after you did your video with the software, great for selfie during activity. Thanks.
Not on this camera, but I think it may be an option on the GoPro max 360 camera.
Them clouds always look better on the GoPro!
and the blue points too.
Great review.... keep it up 👑
I wish I bought the DJI 😢 but GoPro did send me a free upgrade when the my 8 broke from overheating in less than a year. Though I am living in Mexico Yucatan, 🔥🥵 they upgraded my 8 for a 9 at no charge. 😊 Its been much better.
It really, really depends on what you’re going to use the camera for. Vlogging or action.
Go pro 12 vs Dji 4 please suggest me which I'm purchasing me ?
*I think People should Do More of these W/O editing, just side by side, like I did with the Other GoPro Side by Side*
Totally agree! Gotta see the footage straight out of camera to make a fair decision.
Gopro clearly has the better video quality and video features. Dji with the magnetic mount and battery performance probably just has it ahead. Really close.
That's it in a nutshell, the way I see it too
Overall Gopro has better quality video but dji isn't far behind
I like your comparison very much... Very clear..
Thanks, great video. I went with the DJI because I am grumpy with GoPro for killing off Kolor.
With Insta360 Ace Pro, choicing may have a little more difficult. I’m looking forward to your review on Ace Pro, and side by side comparison.
As always. A good honest review / comparison
I still have a Hero 8 Black
Does the job and is actually used as a stand alone camera for 10 hours a day, six days a week.
I have zero complaints with the Hero 8 if I am honest. A bit glitchy now and then but has been used non stop for two years plus
Should I NEED ( Needs / Want are two different things remember ), I would likely go down the DJI path
Keep up the good work
I have seen many comparison videos. In some, DJI action 4 seems brighter whereas in others Go Pro 12 seems brighter. What would be the reason?
Idk but in my experience, DJI is almost always brighter.
Image quality and colour science of GoPro 12 is better than DJI action 4
